More glaringly than ever, it has become a consensus across many divides in the country, ethnic, religious, class and so on, that Nigeria is plagued with such dysfunctional nationalism that the clause, "All is well" can conveniently pass for a legendary joke. From education, welfare, agriculture and other structures that form the major components of the basic Man, to such advancement projects as technology, sports and development, and the political architecture that provides a reflective coordination, the country's ranking has been despicable, to say the least, far below what is found in the ebb of the "right thinking" world.

Responsively, many identify several factors which they believe to be causal of these national anomalies. While some allege the incompatibility of the Nigerian Peoples, spurred by an age long culture of a repressive diversity and differing practices and orientations, others believe that, since the banes of national prosperity cut across ethnic and religious divides, we are better off, together, fighting these setbacks.

While some see these rots as systemic problems, calling for a thorough overhauling cum restructuring to allow increased devolution and regional self determination as thriving instruments of federalism, others understand the entity called Nigeria as a contraption, a product of a foreign conspiracy and a doom that must be outrightly terminated.

In Western Nigeria which is the Yoruba Mainland, various camps have been pitted against each other, to these ends. Some Yorubas are not really keen on Yoruba nationalist affiliations. They believe that the reasons for the current underdevelopment that the country is experiencing are a Nigerian or wholly thing, and that Yorubas may not fare any better in a separate country of their own; after all, we have many corrupt Yorubas in charge, here in the South West, stealing and siphoning the funds meant for the development of the Yoruba nation. Hunger, unemployment, dearth of infrastructure and many other negative indices of development are also registered in the South West, and are partly caused by the greed, resourcelessness and maladministration of those in power in the region.

Having explored these varying mainstream perspectives, the essence of this piece is to collect opinions on some salient emerging issues. These issues are matters arising from the present state of things, and they have been mostly contextualised in inquisitive forms. Some include:

1. What do we Yorubas really want? Is it Restructuring, Oduduwa or neither?

2. If we are to restructure, how do we go about it? Emeka Anyaoku, then Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations, once suggested that the present six geopolitical zones be made into federating units, with resource control and fiscal federalism. Do you agree with him?

3. If You, as a Yoruba person, want neither of Restructuring and Oduduwa, are you happy with the status quo? If "NO" is your answer, what other options would you recommend to salvage this sinking ship?

4. If the Yoruba nationhood is to be given a sovereign political expression, would you rather the new nation state is a monarchy or a republic? If Yorubas are to have a republican state, what happens to Ooni, Alaafin, Alake, Awujale and others? Are they to continue being, constitutionally, unrecognized as kings in a Republique, as it is now in Nigeria?

5. How do we ensure we are not creating another Nigeria? Do we go authoritarian to enforce discipline by imposing such capital reprimands as death on corruption and unauthorized outflow of our hard earned forex, or we simply continue the business of hailing and giving 'twales' to our highly esteemed kleptocrats cum politicians and their collaborators?

6. What happens to the other regions and what will our post dissolution relations with them be like?

Please, in a civil fashion, let the opinions roll in.

Do you mean Nigerian presidency is the ultimate of the Yoruba nation of over 50 million people? I think we need to look beyond all these. We need to create an enabling prosperity for our unborn children

Hmm. Oro agba leleyi. I am just tired of the national backwardness. I believe, as Yorubas, we have what it takes to compete with the likes of Brazil, Mexico and South Korea. But circumstances are proving otherwise

Secession is not currently on the list...

I doubt if we are ready to champion restructuring again cos that's double standard..

Presidency /Regional strengthening is the next agenda

I don't believe presidency is a sure ticket to our development. Obasanjo presidency comes to mind. I believe there is a need to address the fundamental problems, solving these problems will enable each group to develop at its own pace, not depending on the Feds for crumbs.

The best way to strengthen the regions would be to restructure, I suppose

One thing you must understand is that Yorubas are blessed and naturally ahead.. despite being in the opposition since Independence with Northern and Eastern regions in power, South West still fared well while the duo can't pin point any particular thing they achieved with power held for years.

Pa Awolowo is the reason why Yorubas have a voice today as Nnamdi Azikiwe then wanted two regions, North (Hausa speaking) and South (Igbo speaking) but God pass them and his plans failed.

The Middle Belt region made that mistake which they are regretting today from incessant killings, land dispute to Hausa/Fulani dominace in politics. God bless pa Awo for the great foresight he had.

South West will forever thrive whether in Nigeria or otherwise.

Don't you think our thriving capacities are largely being curtailed because of the present systemic dysfunction? We need to aspire bigger and seek to project ourselves to the world. If we are to remain in Nigeria, we certainly need to change the present deficient structure cos it is incapable of anchoring our potential greatness

Restructuring is not visible in Nigeria for now . That's the reality people are shying away from.

Didn't Osinbajo lead restructuring campaign during OBJ's government? Why did he shun the idea now that he is VP?

Obasanjo talking restructuring is only being mischievous.. How many states in Nigeria can survive without oil revenue?

Has any region created an alternative for revenue generation should in case of oil drop like this?

Restructuring bill won't pass second reading ..May be from 10 years oo and that's only if this Corona would reset the brain of our leaders.

I see politicians as " Arije ninu madaru" So, I am not surprised that they always reneged on their electoral promises upon resumption of office. However, going by what you said, we are going to be stuck here for a very long time.

The opinion of the "....present six geopolitical zones being made into federating units, with resource control and fiscal federalism..." is the most viable alternative for now otherwise total breakup is advised so that regions can progress without others dragging them backward.

All you've stated could have been avoided if not for Azikiwe, Ironsi and the Easterners who fought the inclusion of a "SECESSION CLAUSE" in the constitution.

It could have been so easy. Anyone who wants to leave could leave without bloodshed but NO, Azikiwe out of greed and hope of Igbo dominace blew it all away.

So you see why we say the Igbos are the architect of this failing system we have today. The recklessness of their leaders in connivance with the North ruined everything.

Come 2023, Yorubas will take over governance in Nigeria and things will change.
You are right. Events from 1960 show that the Yorubas have been victims of disastrous federal policies. But I think you are too optimistic about 2023. It is to a panacea for our problems

We had it once you know.. until the Nzeogwu coup and emergence of Aguiyi Ironsi as Head of State.

What makes you think another "ironsi" won't rise tomorrow to abolish the true federalism?

Osibanjo lost focus.. is clear to him that Hausa Fulani won’t let restructuring sail through and won’t want to be on the blac book of Hausa Fulani ... not that restructuring is not visible.

OBASANJO know say it take strong will to achieve.. not that it can be achieved...

Is a race between rAt and cat... who will bell the cat...

Will take a no nonsense strong willed Nigerian to restructure this country and it stand ... Yoruba’z Have shown is something almost impossible for them..

This is something any strong mind from old eastern state..

One of the major fears of Igbo presidency

Total bullshit

Only an igbo person can restructure this country and that is why the northern oligarchy and its south western puppets are bent on preventing this.

Most Nigerians greatest fear about igbo presidency is not the domination of igbos actually but the fact that an igbo president might mean the end of Nigeria as it is

Yoruba don't want anything in Nigeria, they are just satisfied with Igbo marginalization and hoping that power will keep on rotating between yoruba and north but in 2023 they will kiss the dust in Nigeria politics and they will never recover in the long run. No future, no ambition, nothing just hope to be receiving monthly allocation from Abuja from Niger delta oil and thats all.
