Everyone is blaming school owners but none has ever looked out with the eyes of school owner. Don't let us forget that school generates their income from fees that parents made and this cover for overheads, staff salaries and others. Since their is no sessions and nobody is paying they can't pay any staff.. Cos where will the money comes from.

The reason you're saying this is because the Nigerian government is yet to shut down most of these schools. There are employment laws guiding every sector of the economy. How many of these schools enrol their staff on pension scheme? medical insurance? staff training? leave bonus? How many even comply with the minimum wage? Education is not an informal sector and you just can't run it like a mechanic shop.

The kind of behaviour you're promoting among employers in the private sector is why many employees independent teachers will ALWAYS leave to public schools at the slightest opportunity.

I agree there has to be systemic regulations to guard against harsh working conditions and low output quality, but dictating salary and when it is paid is well beyond what govt can handle.if they make the pay level standard or have a minimum standard it will quickly lead to a collapse in affordable school fees level and the pressure will easily reflect in the public schools who cannot cope even with the seeming bottomless pockets of their sponsors - the FG.

It has not been easy, I was paid last in February. I do private lessons at least. Not that the parents pay as much considering everyone is in this pandemic together. I still don't mind any other side hustle or better job. 08037568384.

Hmmm this is really a difficult and hard situation for me actually as a private school teacher. The last time i received stipend was february and since then I have been feeding from hand to mouth and i cannot even travel home at least to be able to eat good food because of no inter state movement, the worst part is that the management of the school has not reached out to us to know how we have been fairing all along. Please if there is any way you can help me because i dont have any other option than to ask for help now, please kindly assist me no matter how little i will really be grateful and appreciate you. Thanks to those that will be moved to help me.... 20 53 92 17 23 UBA

True, so many private teachers are paying the price of this lockdown, but there is an alternative, you can make passive income this period , I can show you how.

I don't know if those of you teaching in private schools, like my humble self are facing the same difficulties like me too.

Are you getting paid by your employers during this lock down?

Our case is different here, ever since the lock down began we have not been paid even a dime or reached by our employer to know how we are coping during this tough period.

Those of us that understand better how things work, is it proper that way? What are your thoughts on this? Share your experiences too-those of us in private sectors.

Nothing stops school owners from innovating. A school owner can own printing press (for textbooks, note books, sport wear, etc). Engage your teachers and motivate them to write textbooks, that way, you're able to internalise your operations, and be more productive. A school owner can even own a business centre, a garment factory for the production of wears to pupils in smaller schools. There are lot more a school can do to stay competitive with other industries like the banking industry.

I'm aware of some measures. For example, some schools rent out their space for parties. However, more can be done.

Private Universities have adopted this model and it's working so well.

I pray God helps private school teachers.
Most are working n not being paid according to their input. It's not easy too for private school owners as many students were still owing for 2nd term before the lockdown. Running a private school is not as lucrative as ppl feel atimes.
1You pay annual dues at the ministry
2Nepa bills
3Markers, diaries,registers,pens ,soap,etc
4.Renovations n repairs
5. Fuel n oil for Gen plus servicing
6. Staff salaries(teaching n non teaching)
7 plus other miscellaneous expenses
Note u r expected to pain at least once I'm 2 years or even yearly to make the place look attractive.

Yet there are parents who would have their children in the school for terms with promises of paying but later withdraw them n register them in other school where they do same. Some of those children end up attending up to 5 schools or more.
Atimes school business is a charity thing. The funny thing is the govt is not seeing private schools as helpers rather they are seen as rivals. Atimes I ask myself if schools decide to conversation their buildings to residential will the govt be able to cope? Children in private schools also need help from the govt. There are so many ways the government can help as they are also children of the Federal republic o Nigeria.
Go to govt schools,u will see over 200 in a class with some having no chairs but when officials pay private schools visit, they make it seem they arr not doing anything. This is disheartening.
In this Corona period, the govt thats unable to provide jobs for private school teachers should have waded in cos it's not easy for private school owners this period.
Perhaps govt should also review the dues being paid by the private school owners at the ministry of Education. It's a bit on the high side. This is one of the ways thru which schools can be helped.

I am a private school teacher and I was about bringing up this kind of lamentation online. God knows it has not been easy. My own case is something different. Even before the lockdown, my school was already owing us 2 months+ salary. Then someone I borrowed 50k from when my wife delivered in the month of February is after my life threatening to kill and destroy if I don't refund his money and the school obviously has put up this attitude of OYO to the teachers despite all letters written to the management. I don't just know where to run to now.

Private school will pay you during lockdown?

Almost impossible, maybe those big schools though.

They are not making money, so they can't pay... This moment must be really hard in private teachers.

Those creative can do private tutoring though and make extra cash instead of staying idle

how parents way no go work go come pay u for private lessons......omo life hard for everybody

The end is near

The lockdown will end in the next two weeks

Then schools and churches and mosques and shrines can resume.

Then after that will come the economic meltdown on a large scale

The FG will announce some stringent measure to reduce the spread of the so called deadly virus (lol)

All these are signs of the end times

Give your life to Jesus is not enough
Faith is not enough

You can't keep sinning and thinking Jesus has died for your sins
That's self deception

This generation is going to enter the great tribulations..

Only God knows whom HE will save in the coming bad days
Ahonare you deceiving?? You sound like a troll undecided

That is Nigerian for you. The school owner is running up and down paying both bank and investors loans. However, Nigerians will keep blaming them. The most hardest thing in life is employing a Nigerian. They hardly think. Theirs is just to get money in respective of the employer making profit or not.

What I learnt from a friend who happens to be teaching in a private school is it's not all private schools that pay their teachers during holiday break not to talk of lockdown.
Manage brother and try to find a side hustle to augment yourself. It is well.

Seconded. I am a private school teacher and I haven't seen ₦1 salary since February. Most of these teachers are very lazy indeed. They prefer to sit by the desk teaching the same trash they taught 3 years ago. Rewriting lesson notes and saying the same advice over again.

I started thinking of extra source of income when I discovered what long vacations means to we teachers. I guess that was the warning all along. For me, I only miss my students. I even dey pity my boss sef.
thumb up for you for self realization, they live in fools paradise n before they know it,a lot of water has passed under the bridge. If you are resourceful, there 're businesses(not online) you can start with 20k and you will never lack monex and it is open to growth and expansion,

That is a very harsh assessment from you. You don't know what some people have gone through in their life. Lazy graduate? When did you turn to Buhari. I am sure you are one of the people that frowned at him calling Nigerian youths lazy, yet here you are. Maybe you are ignorant to the fact that we are in Nigeria, a country grossly overwhelmed with dearth of jobs. I don't think a graduate will take up teaching job if there are so many lucrative opportunities out there and I'm definitely sure once a better offer comes to any teaching graduate be it in private or public sch he/she will jump at it. I don't think anybody is comfortable with any job that is underpaying let alone a graduate. Learn how to pass your message across nxt time with a little bit pragmatism. quote author=coputa post=89752851] It,s only a lazy graduate that teaches in a private school,Do you kow that a pure water hawker in the street earns more than a average private school teacher.Take the bull by the horn and be resourseful.
