Polaris bank is ok and their mobile customer care is always 24/7 available

You're right. I must say, Polaris seems to be alot better than GTB in terms of customer care.

I currently use GTB and Polaris. In the past, SkyeBank was one of the poorest bank but since it became Polaris, I think their services are improving.

Why I love Polaris Bank:
1. Withdraw from any other bank's atm without issue. Plus zero POS ish.

2. No incessant and stupid charge deductions

3. Good online banking. Sincerely, I don't know which is better btw this and GTB's.

4. Responsive customer support.

Why I don't like PB;

1. Ussd code not reliable
2. Very Poor Mobile App. I think the mobile app has the poorest User experience among bank apps.

I am so pissed off right now.

I wasn’t angry when I broke the card. I just wanted to make sure that:

i. I will not be able to use the card or account anymore.

ii. I will be forced to open a new regular bank account.

The Story (in brief)

I suffered a failed POS transaction yesterday.

I sent Wema ALAT a mail and they are yet to reply as of now (almost 24 hours later).

I called them this morning and listened to a recorded message about how my call may be delayed because of COVID-19. I quickly cut the call. Their customer wasn’t effective before the virus came along, so I wonder what to expect now.

I later visited their bank and the customer care rep told me the transaction will be reversed within 14 days, if they were sure that I was really unable to withdraw the money.

14 days? Why is this so?

The money doesn’t even belong to me and the owner is very angry with me right now. Someone sent it to her and she wanted to use someone else's account to receive it, but I convinced her to use me—and then this happened.

Worse, she needs it for feeding and I don't have any money to give her. (She wasn’t paying me for the service in case you’re wondering.)

I suffered the same thing in the hands of GTB. (Their regular customer service email complaints@gtbank.com isn't even working anymore.)

In fact, I opened a WEMA Alat account because of GTB’s failures. I thought Alat will be better since they marketed themselves as a “Digital Bank”, but it appears that I was wrong. They are “digital” in name only.

This should be the third or fourth time WEMA Alat is doing this sort of nonsense to me. And that is without counting the failed mobile and POS transfers.

I am actually not concerned about GTB’s and Wema’s failures. I just hate their terrible customer service.

Failed transactions are one thing. I actually consider them normal. However, poor customer service and unwillingness to quickly solve failed online transactions aren’t. And this is unfortunately common with most banks and businesses in this country.

Now, I’ve have made the decision to stop going cashless. I will start moving around with cash henceforth. I’m sick and tired of all these failed POS transactions and sluggish customer service reps.

I know I will still do some online transactions but that will be occasionally (online shopping, international payments, etc.)

That said, I want you all to answer these two questions:

1. Which bank is reliable for online transactions?

2. Which bank has the most effective customer care service in this country?

I’m thinking of opening a Union bank account since I can see they have revamped their business, but I don't want to jump into conclusions as I did with Alat.

Could you all help me out?

P.S. Please UBA and Skye (if this one still exists) are out of the equation. I used them in the past and can confidently say they are terrible. They steal money.

I don’t want Access bank too. I’ve never read anything good about them. They and fraud are relatives. I don’t want Diamond bank either since they are the new owners of Access bank.

So, any suggestions?

So people still bank with banks like wema, union and first bank. I can't try it

Fidelity!? That bleeped up bank?

They still owe me 10k since last yr! And a failed transfer of 7k this year!

They keep posting me! Next 7 days ! Next 7 days.

They only paid back a recent failed transaction, after I told them I had sent an email to CBN...cos they'd pay double if CBN confirms the failed transaction, and a delay In refund from them.

I wanted to ask the guy if it's the same fidelity bnk i'm using

Lol, you go break plenty cards be that o. Just calm down its also between 7-14days in commercial banks but you will most likely receive the reversal before then. Just lay your claim as soon as it happens. Take heart.

Found myself in this delima around February this year, although it’s just N3,000 but it took that stupid bank almost 25days to refund my money after disturbing their customer care with calls countless time

I don't know which is worse between GTB and WEMA. I had a similar issue with GTB and couldn't contact them.

Their contact email address doesn't go. And whoever is running their Twitter help page is clueless. That one just kept sending me images of a POS machine and what to do in case of a failed POS transaction.

I've used Diamond Bank, and their service was great. I continued with Access when they merged, and their services are great too. You can sort out whatever problem you have by sending them a message via Twitter. They have professional CSOs, and would always refund your money even when you don't make a complaint.

try Fidelity. I have been using them for like 10 years and i have not really complained like you're doing. Their customer care pick calls and would try to help.
I might have just been lucky out of millions of people who use the bank, but just try first

I have been using Wema Alat and I would say it has been the best banking experience I have experienced so far. I have 4 other bank accounts but the only one with an active card is my alat bank account. I have never used it on a wema bank atm and it has been serving me since 2017.

I wanted to recommend UBA but you said you have used them in the past. There was a time I was having issues I emailed them, they said I should send them my number that they will call. They did call and the issue was resolved. They customer care service are trying.

Yes I experienced this... The customer rep. later called and was even apologizing for calling late.

Me, I was just shocked

I have used UBA since 2015, I never encountered any failed transactions.

You have had an unpleasant experience using these banks and I understand how frustrating it could be. but I bet ,gtbank and zenith bank customers service are the best when it comes to digital customer services. Just that gtb has changed their customer email.

I have had several experience with most of this bank and if I'll advise you on the best digital bank. I will recommend Zenith bank to anyone, maybe it's POS, or for online payment. Just that their app sucks at time

UBA would have been better but they make too much deduction, and their resolution time for resolving queries is usually long ranging from 2weeks up to a month and above

Wema is not a digital bank, I have had several encounter of my customers using Wema ussd code to transfer to me but I didn't get the value in my account, and the value was not automatically refunded to them until they complained at their bank

Access bank have a robust system, but they have a very poor customer service, if you have any query that's isn't resolved on time , quickly escalate it with CBN or else you might never get a resolution, on card payment I don't think access issue master card. For their ussd code, don't transfer if the recipient name didn't come up or else your money will not hit the recipient account and that can result unresolved.

I can go on to give my experience on sterling, stanbic bank, unity,

If you have had such experience you can attestate to those points I raised.

I highly recommend Zenith bank, these kind of issues will easily be solved with a simple call to customer care, Sometimes they will say 7 working days, but it takes less 3 days to get reversal. And even less, if you can go to the bank in person & fill thier form

UBA has really changed.
I use the bank and can attest to their transparency when it comes to charges.
Also for complaints, it is faster now. Failed POS transactions get reversed under 24hrs if you have the Declined receipt.

I always advise people not to use those local POS withdrawal shops that are everywhere. Especially if the withdrawal is urgent or important.

Most banks have toll-free customer care line. The important thing is that they should pick up fast or not listening to music and advert for 30mins before they pick up

If u want to be answered quickly, u can send a mail to them copying CBN or through twitter and mention CBN twitter handle.

The only bank I can recommend is Zenith Bank.

PS: I've used FBN and they were thrash, lost 50K to their incompetency. I use GTB too, but only as a transaction account and I don't leave more than 5K in the account (never experienced a failed transaction too.

My own thing is that I'd never ever use a POS no matter what, if the POS outlet won't take transfer I'll just Waka and if I want to withdraw using ATM, I'd make sure to use my bank's ATM gangan...

This seems to be the best way out, but what happens when you're temporarily residing in an area that your bank has no ATM? The logical step would be open an acct with the most popular bank/bank with the most effective ATM service in that area.

Do you have another solution?

Op, I recommend this too. I personally use it. I don't leave money in any of my banks' accounts. I send them to my Opay account immediately to avoid failed transactions, charges, illegal and unnecessary withdrawal. It's totally free.

Might be true, but if hv ever experienced and issue with them of late, and try reaching their customer care?

Cuz my frnd had an issue with her Opay account.,
I tried calling their hotline, all u hear is 'Covid19 issue response pls reach us on social media'

Sent them a message on Twitter, uptill this very mo.ent, no reply, shes unable to use her account on Opay uptill now.

The issue was that: she has failed transaction to one of the tricycle drivers. Shes has been unable to pay even with money in her account. Anytime she opens it, all she sees is pay up the OTrike rider. If she tries it fails.

I have paid the Man using Opay customer to Agent Transfer..but the Man has refused confirming he the transaction.

The story too long..
We were told only Opay can handle the situation..

If u are banking with any of the Nigerian banks, make one of their staffs your friend. Everything will be easy peasy.

If u are rich enough, no need, they will seek you out and will be ready to assist your as soon as you need their help.
