consider first bank, the reversal of their money from pos is just 7 working days and their customer care reps is fast

Gtb is my second bank, I'm going to twitter soon to rubbish that bank if by monday my money is not reverse back to my account

on 21 of may I went to withdraw at unity bank, I withdrew 10k, wanted to withdraw 30k, to withdraw the rest, I tried withdrawing the rest because it can only pay 10k at once, I was debited twice, I called their useless reps, I was told it would take 5 working days, I endure. it reach 10days and my money wasn't refunded, so I called the customer care rep again as their branch where I was had been closed down for days, the lady that picked said the first one was lodge on 28th of may, sth I complaint on 21th of may o, the second one was lodge on June 1. 10k was reverse back but I'm yet to get the second 10k

I urge anyone using gtb to boyscout that useless bank, I have force all my family that I encouraged to open the account with them to boyscout it. their mail is nonsense, customer care rep is thrash

gtb very useless bank

I don't know which is worse between GTB and WEMA. I had a similar issue with GTB and couldn't contact them.

Their contact email address doesn't go. And whoever is running their Twitter help page is clueless. That one just kept sending me images of a POS machine and what to do in case of a failed POS transaction.

Ur line of "That one just kept sending me images of a POS machine and what to do in case of a failed POS transaction" is very funny in all honesty. Maybe that is his/her only area of expertise.

Most banks are the same just like no preferred or best internet service provider (ISP) in Nigeria. If any is good just know that they have few customers or traffic, after which services (both bank and ISP) nose dives. This is Nigeria where SON, BPC and CPC doesn't work.

My advice would be for you enter small amount of cash at a time just to check in case it runs into dispence error.

I still prefer GTBank even if their own dey their body. I remembered when I was debited during a flight booking without refund that lasted close to a month. I nearly finish GTBank with emails close to 200 copies. No be their eye them take refund me sharp sharp.

UBA - is simply Useless Bank of Africa and I can say that without any form of reservation and that is a story for another day

I am so pissed off right now.

I wasn’t angry when I broke the card. I just wanted to make sure that:

i. I will not be able to use the card or account anymore.

ii. I will be forced to open a new regular bank account.

The Story (in brief)

I suffered a failed POS transaction yesterday.

I sent Wema ALAT a mail and they are yet to reply as of now (almost 24 hours later).

I called them this morning and listened to a recorded message about how my call may be delayed because of COVID-19. I quickly cut the call. Their customer wasn’t effective before the virus came along, so I wonder what to expect now.

I later visited their bank and the customer care rep told me the transaction will be reversed within 14 days, if they were sure that I was really unable to withdraw the money.

14 days? Why is this so?

The money doesn’t even belong to me and the owner is very angry with me right now. Someone sent it to her and she wanted to use someone else's account to receive it, but I convinced her to use me—and then this happened.

Worse, she needs it for feeding and I don't have any money to give her. (She wasn’t paying me for the service in case you’re wondering.)

I suffered the same thing in the hands of GTB. (Their regular customer service email complaints@gtbank.com isn't even working anymore.)

In fact, I opened a WEMA Alat account because of GTB’s failures. I thought Alat will be better since they marketed themselves as a “Digital Bank”, but it appears that I was wrong. They are “digital” in name only.

This should be the third or fourth time WEMA Alat is doing this sort of nonsense to me. And that is without counting the failed mobile and POS transfers.

I am actually not concerned about GTB’s and Wema’s failures. I just hate their terrible customer service.

Failed transactions are one thing. I actually consider them normal. However, poor customer service and unwillingness to quickly solve failed online transactions aren’t. And this is unfortunately common with most banks and businesses in this country.

Now, I’ve have made the decision to stop going cashless. I will start moving around with cash henceforth. I’m sick and tired of all these failed POS transactions and sluggish customer service reps.

I know I will still do some online transactions but that will be occasionally (online shopping, international payments, etc.)

That said, I want you all to answer these two questions:

1. Which bank is reliable for online transactions?

2. Which bank has the most effective customer care service in this country?

I’m thinking of opening a Union bank account since I can see they have revamped their business, but I don't want to jump into conclusions as I did with Alat.

Could you all help me out?

P.S. Please UBA and Skye (if this one still exists) are out of the equation. I used them in the past and can confidently say they are terrible. They steal money.

I don’t want Access bank too. I’ve never read anything good about them. They and fraud are relatives. I don’t want Diamond bank either since they are the new owners of Access bank.

So, any suggestions?

I think you are the problem. If Mr Bob has conflicts with Mr A, MR B, Mr C, Mr D and Mr E, Mr Bob is the problem. Which is why you have intuitively said you would go cashless.

However, have you tried Sterling Bank? How about FCMB?

Ecobank is worse,I was debited of 20k twice and the money was not dispensed ,I've made several complains,I was told that the money would be reverted back in the next 5-7 working days,it's 6th day today. They should just convert Ecobank to poultry
Please don't mention Ecobank. I lost 60k to them about 4 years ago, failed ATM transaction. I wrote all the letters to no avail. Las las, they told me the transaction was reversed. Yet there was no evidence of such reversal in my statement nor balance. I gave up after six months. I don swear for them the next time they will try that with me.

The love affair between banks and POS is a very complicated one, and there are some things bankers can't tell you, except they are close to you and it is off the record.....I was like you, until one explained the situation to me, but let's just say that isn't a priority. Rather than complaining about the bank (customer service angle is understandable, but the former, still goes back to my earlier explanation), just avoid using POS when you can....it's a deathtrap. Almost lost 100k of personal money cos someone used that to send money to me. The process was expedited by getting a statement of account immediately, and sending it to them....perhaps, you can try that, if you haven't resolved the issue. Plus of cos, the agents are usually not helpful...many of them are also thieves. Again, it is not necessarily the bank's fault.

LOL.
You seem to have a high level of temper issues from all your write ups.
Now, for failed online transactions especially without proofs of the transaction, it takes 14 days for resolve to come by. This is not because of customer service issues, it has more to do with interswitch, and this is the minimal number of days for resolve.

This really is more of an agreement between banks and interswitch and has nothing to do with the personnel.

If you actually want respect, you have to show respect too. That's the first tip to interactions with people.

My guess is, you neither have expressed patience or the right words in interacting with this personnel.

Now to breaking your card?? Because you are angry...

It tells alot.

Since I started using Opay, I have no regret, they are far better many banks. You see Ecobank, its one of the useless bank in Nigeria. Their mobile app is very useless but am stuck with it bcs its my salary pay point.

I used my Ghana zenith bank Visa card in Nigeria 2015 trying to with 20,000 naira,
I got an error message on the ATM "Unable to dispense cash",
I tried a different Zenith bank ATM and got the same message.
30 mins later I got 2 debit alert on my Ghana account.
I rushed back Zenith bank and lodged my complaint.

Well its been 5 years and no reversal in sight. I gave up trying after multiple
attempts...
Now I avoid the ATM machines

Is their customer care reliable? I am very particular about this?

Fidelity bank customer service is okay, but for online transactions, it is a No No for me. I bank with them currently and I rely on transfers and cashless transactions more. Save yourself the stress. I cancelled 3 cards linked to my account due to some fraudulent withdrawals I experience every month. They replied that the cards have been deactivated, but still charged me at the end of the month for card maintenance and yes, the cards were not deactivated.

Nigerian banks are so inefficient. This whole Covid thing has really exposed them. The are very analogue. Personally, I would recommend Standard Chartered bank, the only downside is that they have few branches and only in major cities. Their customer service is top notch, you don't even have to go to a branch to do transaction, everything can be done virtually. Honestly, they have very friendly and helpful staff. But it's not really a naija bank, so I'm not surprised.
Zenith bank physical customer service dey try, their virtual customer service is not really good. Access bank staff are quite rude always behaving like you're disturbing them, never tried contacting them virtually though. Loved when they were still Diamond bank. GTB is always too crowded, don't like going there and I don't know much about virtual customer service though.. UBA, ECOBANK story for another day. Had a very bad experience with sterling bank, since then I haven't used my account, but I honestly don't think they are that bad, probably just a one-off experience but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Heard Stanbic IBTC is also very good. My family members love that bank.

You slate 2 of the best banks interns of online transactions . Access Bank and GTB. I'm not naija based and they have never disappointed me in anyway or manner.

I thought Access bank Aqguired Diamond Bank rather. Even in USA banks do have such issues as well so it is never a naija banks issues alone.

Since I started using Opay, I have no regret, they are far better many banks. You see Ecobank, its one of the useless bank in Nigeria. Their mobile app is very useless but am stuck with it bcs its my salary pay point.

@ megareal I can relate your experience after 2 years of their inability to reverse my 20k in failed POS transaction
That's their way. That bank is so useless. I can't leave them for now too, but I'm patiently waiting for them next time they try that nonsense.

I wanted to recommend UBA but you said you have used them in the past. There was a time I was having issues I emailed them, they said I should send them my number that they will call. They did call and the issue was resolved. They customer care service are trying.
Bros, you just reminded me of FCMB. That bank is very efficient. Whenever issues arise, they quickly rectify it through their efficient customer service.

Access Bank too has never failed me so I'm wondering why the OP label them thieves. Well, one man's Miss World may be another person's Olo.sho

First Bank.. UBA
