MARRIED AND SLAYING: DIARY OF MRS. NWAKAEGO ETADAFE

Episode 31

Dear Diary,

20th of June, 2019.

I feel like a siren has gone off somewhere in my brain. The piercing sound is bursting my ears and making my eyes to gather water like Kanji dam. Right now, this very moment, I am saturated with boiling feelings, feelings hot enough to roast my happiest thoughts.

Before Praise returned from his bakery or wherever he went to, I was happy. I was more than happy.

Kamsiyo, my neighbour, the one with two girls, the very woman her in-laws keep fighting because she didn't have a male child... she came visiting. She looked different and genuinely cheerful.

She told me that she was pregnant! She said initially, she wasn't happy about it, because she had her kids through CS. And she was scared of going through the same thing again. She almost died because of the trauma of the CS and she wouldn't wish her bad experiences on her worst enemy.

She delayed going to see her gynaecologist, and when she eventually did, it turned out that she was 25 weeks gone. And the scan showed that she was carrying a male child!

I was so, so, so happy for Kamsiyo. I started to dance and dance. She laughed and joined me and we were dancing for several minutes.

I am happy that now, her in-laws would stop pestering her. They would stop looking for her trouble and end the name-calling. Just imagine people calling you names that isn't on your birth certificate, names that your parents or grand parents didn't give you. Ah people can be wicked.

And finally, her relationship with her husband would be better... better than what she had been experiencing in the past year. That her husband sef...

Before she left, Kamsiyo told me that she went shopping at Silver bird Galleria and she ran into my husband. She said she saw him with a fair looking pretty woman.

Diary! That moment, fear gripped me like a sweat-shirt. I knew exactly who it was. She was talking about Diana, Praise's ex... the white witch!

I told Kamsiyo that the lady was a friend of my husband. I didn't want to raise any suspicion on her side. When she left, I actually lost my mind.
What was Praise doing with that white witch?! He was supposed to stay away from her for heaven sake!

Diary, my mind ran in circles for the next fifteen, twenty minutes... I started to imagine all sort of scenarios and none ended well. It all made me more agitated and I couldn't concentrate on nothing.

Literally, I burnt our dinner and I had to start cooking all over again. I tried to block Praise's ex from my mind, but her stunts at the airport kept replaying in my head like a very bad record. It went on and on, till I almost turned into a crazy person inside my own house. In that sorry state, I was a perfect candidate for Yaba Left Institution.

I started talking to myself. I rearranged the clothes in the wardrobe like a dozen times, cleaned the kitchen till there was not even a single spot of stain in that place, then went about redecorating the living room.

I just had to get busy while I waited for Praise to come home. When he strolled in hours later, I was physically exhausted and my brain was bursting with a very bad headache.

He took his time to shower, then he ate. It took all the iota of strength I had left in me to keep quiet until he had finished every morsel of semovita on his plate.

Oh diary, I wanted to die ooooo. The waiting was treacherous.

The moment he picked the remaining meat in his empty bowl of soup, I cleared the dining and ran to the kitchen. I dumped the dishes in the sink and ran back to the living room.

I found him seated in front of the television, changing channels with the remote. I cleared my throat and walked up to him.

"Honey, Kamsiyo came by, she said she ran into you at the galleria..."

Praise blinked like four times before he turned in my direction.

"Yeah... I think I saw her coming out of a baby store or something," Praise said to me and returned his attention to the television.

I cleared my throat again, like thrice.

"Ehn.. she said she saw you with a yellow lady..."

Praise dropped the remote on the center table and stretched his hands.

"Yeah, I was with Diana. She called me at work. She wanted me to show her around and take her to a few places," Praise turned to meet my gaze. "You know she has been out of the country for a very long time and she is at a loss on the location of her favourite places."

As in was that my fault? Or any of my concern? Diary, what kind of foolish and manipulative stunt was that?

"She called you? Why you? Doesn't she have relatives or friends in Lagos?" I asked Praise.

My husband looked at me from head to toe, shook his head and picked up the remote again.

Diarrryyyyyy! When did my husband turn to google map? Or is he now working for a tourist company? Or is he now an Uber or Taxify driver? Abi which kind useless excuse did this lady use to kidnapp my husband like this? Since afternoon for that matter? Look at the time he came home, Ehn diary!

"Darling, you need to be careful with this lady. I don't trust her. I am sure she has plans up her sleeves, I think..."

My husband didn't even allow me to finish. He started to laugh. You no dat kain laugh wey no dey reach the eyes?

Praise said he isn't a child. He said he knew exactly who he was dealing with. And he was old enough to know what was right and wrong.

Ehhhhhhhh! Diary! When does being old enough ever stop anyone from acting foolishly?

I told Praise that I wasn't comfortable with him hanging around his ex and he got pretty upset. He dropped the remote, got up and walked out on me.

Diary, why is my husband toiling with fire? Why was he playing into the hands of his ex like this? This is trouble in the form of a witch o. Me, I will not open my eyes and allow one white witch to pour sand sand for my garri o.

If it is war she wants, I was prepared for this long before I married Praise Etadafe. All my weapons of warfare is intact.

Diary, I am so, so sorry for this lady. By the time I am done with her, she go no say God no get tribal marks!

Anyone that runs with that, na gods of the land go settle the matter

Na, I just believe there shouldn't be excuse for stupidity or stupid acts. If Ego was a girl between the ages of 19 - 21, I would have understood

Lol @bolded..

But now that praise is also treading that path, are you still going to blame ego for being raped in her matrimonial home?

She better pack one side, atleast Praise was honest enough to do his own in the open, not like hers that was done in the secret places of ***

Ehen, na now story just dey sweet. No cut am o, we must reach bottom pot ontop this matter

It just goes to show that most times we as humans can't handle what we dish out to others. Look at Ego feeling all defensive and about to go gangster on cha pu okwu, she most definitely didn't realize she was in the same situations months back.

It's a thing I've noticed with some ladies though, they can dish out a lot, but when you give them just 10% of their own shit, they forget they did the same to you and start claiming victim. If you remind them of their own case, they then go "Come on, I was just joking na... Can't you see I was joking?"

That's totally wrong tho, but it's your opinion so I can't say.

I just think praise could have handled the matter better, ego loves him that much, she fought that guy off.

If I were to make a speculation like you, and I were to be ego, I'd start having double mind towards praise after the rape saga.

I just thinkl double mind towards praise after the rape saga.

...start having double mind? (She has no justification for that, rather she should always drop an extra offering on Sundays for marrying a good man)

As for Praise bringing the lady home for dinner, trust me, that's the best that can happen to that family. She is an ex who obviously still thinks she's got a shot at Praise

If they keep doing the hide and seek meetings outside, it arouses more suspicion. Even if he tries to hide from her, she'll always know how to double-cross him. Then if someone sees him in a questionable position after the lady double-crosses him, how will that story go? Who will believe she double-crossed him? It'll open old wounds and bring distrust to a marriage that is going through a rebuilding process. Then, we'll have a Kingsley saga all over again, but this time in swapped gender roles.

Invite her and her daughter to dinner, let Ego prepare the dinner, sit down in the dining room and eat, tell Ego about Diana, laugh over it, tell Diana the story of how you met Ego, how she is the love of your life, how no matter what happens you are ready to stick with her through thick and thin, how she is the second most important thing to you right after relaxation of restrictions on Interstate movement, which is the first.

Let Ego flow with the tide and act accordingly, talk about everything and anything, laugh with her daughter, ensure Ego marks her territory in a very cheerful but intimidating way (I'm sure Ego will be up to this task)... Trust me, she'll walk away, it's one of the most humiliating ways to humble a "stubborn" lady while gaining excess love from your wife/gf.

If Ego had told Praise about Kingsley, he would have met him and spoken to him, but not invite him home because he is a male and the approach to that is different. But for females, the best approach is this...

That was why I made that statement

What is the approach different?
I don't get you because tbh we're two opposite poles, and I don't even have strength to explain myself either.

If you read this story well, you'll realize that praise isn't just trying to catch up with Diana. A lot more will go down after that. That's a different ball game.

His reaction towards his wife that was raped was also wrong, that's another different ball game. Imagine yourself as a woman, your ex came to your matrimonial home to rape you, and your own husband, who's supposed to support you the most stops talking to you, eating your food, claiming it was your fault?

Me I just can't understand you.

As much as I don't like using movies as reference, but I'll make an exception here, watch "A good man is hard to find"... Then, you'll understand

As for Praise's reaction, he'll be a BIG hypocrite if he didn't react that way. That's the NORMAL way to react in such case, but as time goes you'll begin to see things from the other person's side and get back. It's like a child who DIDN'T read for an exam complaining cos his parents put him on lockdown for failing the exam

As for Praise cozying up to Diana, she is a VERY PRETTY LADY, even Ego throway cap foram. So it's expected. You'll always meet someone more beautiful than your wife/gf, you'll meet a lady that'll make your stare linger, you'll meet a lady whose hug will stretch longer... That is life, we'll only be lying to ourselves if we say it's not so.

I'll rather flirt in the presence of my gf than behind her, she is more comfortable when this happens in her presence. Depending on the kind of relationship you have with your lady, it actually brings a kind of trust between you two.

I may be wrong though, but I believe the approach given up there is the best for Praise to solve this dilemma if he really is the good guy the story portrays him to be.

But I know say Shewrite go bring new twist wey go vex me again

EPISODE 32

Dear Diary,

30th June, 2019.

Today has been a very, very, very, verrrryyyyyyyyyyyy crazy day for me. It’s past ten and I am not sure I will be able to sleep a wink tonight. I might result into taking sleeping pills if I am still awake by midnight. Let me use this time out to gist you about the craziness of this day.

It all started with screams and shouts from the Isa’s compound. Praise and I woke up hearing Danlandi’s voice, as he rebuked his first wife, Jemila, and his new wife, Zarah. Then we heard Jemila screaming back, uttering all sort of profanities and complaining about Zarah’s incessant taunts and mockery. The next thing we heard was the sound of things clashing and smashing. Danladi kept on shouting. We could discern that the two wives were fist fighting and tumbling into walls, bodies and household furniture.

We heard the security guard’s voice too. Praise and I guessed that he was also trying to stop the women from fighting. Then he began to curse and swear, shouting that Zarah’s teeth had ripped off his flesh!

Oh diary… that was the end of our beauty sleep this morning. It was hard to go back to bed when your neighbours were making a racket. Gone were the days we used to intervene in their squabbles. But now, everyone is answering their father’s name. ‘To your tent oh Israel’ is now our modus operandi.

Praise went into the bathroom to shower and I also began to prepare for work. I made breakfast and went to take my bath once Praise was out. I think my husband and I left the house around the same time. When I got to my business place, I doze at my desk for a long while. I felt lazy and incapable of doing much. That’s what happens when you don’t get enough sleep.

I joined the cooks in the kitchen around lunchtime and busied myself making a new recipe. I have been at it for a couple of weeks now. I wanted it to taste right. I wanted it to be perfect because I wanted to add it to my list of menus. I have already concluded on the price tag. People are going to pay through their teeth for this meal. I was happy.

As per my usual routine, Praise always did a food taste for every of my new recipes. Sometimes, he named them. I served a portion into a flask and decided to go to the bakery to show my husband. I texted him, asking if he had eaten and he replied that he was just about eating his lunch. No need for me to take extra food along. Flask in hand, I headed to the bakery on the mainland. Praise shuffled between the bakery on the mainland and the one on the island bi-weekly.

When I got to the bakery, the male receptionist, a Youth Corp member, wanted to help me with my bag and the flask I was carrying, but I declined. Some of the staff that saw me when I walked in greeted me. I responded swiftly and sauntered to my husband’s office. Praise’s P.A was at his desk. He confirmed that my husband was around before I walked in without knocking.

I rarely knocked whenever I visited my husband. Maybe because I was usually in a hurry to see his face. Hahahaha… The moment I stepped in, I saw a fair looking lady seated on the long settee adjacent to my husband’s desk. It didn’t take me a second before I recognized her. It was Praise’s ex, Diana, the White Witch!

What was she doing in my husband’s office for heaven sake? Why is this woman hanging around my husband like a leech? Whoever send her should call her back. This has definitely gotten up to here *hand-above-my-head*
The most annoying thing was that they were both eating, together, from the same bowl of pounded yam and melon soup. This is definitely sacrilege. How can someone feel comfortable eating with another woman’s husband?

Praise got up the moment he saw me. There was a look of surprise on his face. He probably thought I changed my mind about coming to his office when he told me that he was about eating lunch. My husband gave me a welcoming hug and he pecked me on both cheeks. His lips were smeared with palm oil and the grease was on my face. Yuck!

I was angry at the position I found Praise and his ex. My husband was supposed to stay away from this woman, but he is still… what am I even going to do? Talking to him is no longer enough.
Diana eyed me and gave me a look that spoke volumes. I was sure I had just disrupted whatever plans she had at the tips of her wizardry fingers.

Praise didn’t go back to the meal. He washed his hands and sat with me, on the sofa, a seat meant for one, but we felt cozy together. I told my husband about my new recipe. He took the flask from me, ate everything and told me to add it to my menu. I was happy. Praise’s encouragement and advice were like gold when it came to my business.

The white witch finished eating in silence. She washed her hands and called Praise’s P.A to come clear the table. She was acting like she knew her way around, like she knew the staff… and I began to wonder how many times she had actually visited Praise in his office. Oh God! She leaned against the long settee and gave me a long stare, as if she was waiting for me to get up and leave.

Leave to where? Is it her husband’s office or my husband’s office? E be like say dem don nack iron rod for her head before.

I stared back at her and allowed my gaze to travel down her neck and lo and behold, I saw the unimaginable. The white witch had on a red sleeveless blouse that showed a very good amount of her chest. Literally, half of her bosom was out there for all eyes to see. Jesus! This was too much distraction for any man that has blood running through his veins. As if that wasn’t enough, her white mini skirt exposed her creamy supple thighs… just looking at it makes one desire to feel it.

Ah! Nooooo! This is too much now! This woman is so out to get my naïve husband who is still bent on entertaining her company. Diana is temptation with a capital letter ‘T’. How am I supposed to convince Praise to give her a wide breadth? Ehn? How?

At some point, I went to the restroom. While I washed my hands, I heard Praise and Diana’s laughter. What was so funny? I hissed and came out.

Oh diary… the white witch was laughing and pressing her chest against my husband! This crazy woman left her seat and she came to sit beside my husband! As if that wasn’t enough, she was laughing at anything he said and pressing her chest against him.

I felt like pulling off my shoes and hurling it at her. Maybe when she had painful bumps on her forehead, she would receive sense.

I slammed the door in anger. The noise made her jerk. She looked in my direction, got up and returned to the long settee, wearing a smile on her loco face.

This woman just need some beating. Abi diary? I think she is trying to annoy me or lure me into a fight. She doesn’t know me at all. She doesn’t know the kind of arsenal I have at my disposal. Let me just keep quiet.

I returned to the sofa and sat beside my husband. Praise started to talk about the drama that started in Jemila’s house this morning. We talked and gisted for the next hour. When Diana realized that I wasn’t leaving any time soon, she got up and told us that she promised to pick up a bowl of ice-cream for her daughter. Who cares? I know she just made up that excuse. But I was glad she left.

I remained in Praise’s office until he was ready to go home. I had a feeling that if I left my husband alone in his office, Diana might come back and pick up from wherever she left off. I am not taking chances at all.

Oh diary, I am yawning right now. It’s past twelve. I am sleepy and I don’t think I need to take any sleeping pills.

Diary, I need a solution to this white witch’s saga. I cannot allow another woman to come and disrupt my marital bliss. And Praise is not even seeing things the way they are. I am just fed up.

Hmmm… God, I place everything in your hands.
