Even my parents and siblings do not enter my house unannounced, not to talk of a girlfriend (back when I was dating). The only time this is allowed is during emergencies or you are doing a surprise event (eg intervention)

Furthermore, many Nigerians cannot think internationally. In the winter in Europe, you would suffer if you went to someone's house unannounced because, you will wait outside in the cold before the person opens the door for you. That is if even the person decides to open the door. Europeans do not like unannounced visits.

Also, personally, I am a busy man. I plan my time very well. Back when I was dating, there were few days in the week that I couldnt spare for anyone, even while I was at home. Coming in unannounced would make me treat you like a problem.

Unless you are a fiancee or a wife, you have no rights to access a man's place. In a civilized country, a neighbour can even get you arrested for standing in the front porch of your boyfriend's house if you are there unannounced. The police will ask you what rights do you have to be on another person's property. God help you if your boyfriend's phone is off when police is questioning you.

Sharrap. It's a simple courtesy to inform someone before visiting them. Many have visited me without calling and I gave them serious warnings. My line of work requires serious concentration and I wouldn't want any idiot to barge in cos they want to catch me doing something illegal or worse, cheating.

The op never said that they were engaged. The title of this thread clearly says "dating".

It is good manners to respect someone's personal space and house. Call before coming. It only shows that you have no respect and manners. I cannot date or even marry a woman with such behaviour.

Even the law is clear on this issue. You shouldn't be on someone's property without permission. If police gets involved, you are in trouble.

We had to settle a serious quarrel in my compound today between a lady and the guy she's dating! It's actually a serious relationship because if not for the covid-19 pandemic, they would have been married!

The guy claimed that his woman came to visit him without pre-informing him and the lady was screaming at the top of her voice that she doesn't have to call him before coming.

Some of my neighbors were in support of the guy and I feel it's not right because I'm also dating someone, and we visit each other anytime we like without prior notice!!

Some of my neighbors think otherwise!!
