As the daylight dwindle, the tension and fear thoughts in Susan grew, she came down from the keke in a rush almost setting one foot in front of each other but she stood her balance before she could fall..., she stood and waited as Henry pay the keke man with her facial expression venting her disgust over Anita's arrest.., she quickly turn her angry gaze from the keke man the moment he drove off to the police station, there she saw him, a young guy followed by a policeman coming out from the station...

"Isn't that the bastard...?"Susan ask, her voice carrying a thread of anger that went beyond everything normal..

"What bastard..?"Henry ask looking towards the direction of her eyes...

Susan didn't give a reply, instead she moved closer when the person stopped to talk to the policeman, she blinked for a second to convince herself she wasn't seeing someone else or a resemblance and right there it occured to her, it was him, he's the bastard who had Anita arrested...

"Wait, could that be him..?"Henry ask pointing at the person's direction...

Susan didn't reply, instead she let her head ponder over the possibility of it, the answer echoing in her head intensified her anger making her screamed his name...

"Samuel.."She shouted with a thunderous voice that grabbed everyone attention..

Samuel's heart jumped with shock like an almighty wallop came down on him, quickly he revert his gaze from the policeman to Susan who was glaring at him.., first he thought he was a fan but such an unsubtle expression doesn't define a fan, she's definitely a hater, perhaps something worst..., her glare towards him fell like an act of violence and without explanation, he knew that was the only message he needs, he almost flinched as she drew nearer, her eyes glaring with an intensity that tightened his heart...

"It's you..."Susan said fixating her angry eyes on him..., she walked closer slowly, angrily closing the distance between them until it was just a hand stretched...

"Excuse me, who are you..?"Samuel ask forcing a smile on his face but the smile couldn't just stay, so he resorted into frowning ...

Susan lips curl rendering no softness in her gaze, her look conveyed a bubbling hatred.., disgust perhaps..."You stole her story and still got her arrested.."

Samuel chuckle heartlessly, looking down at her as if she was just another child begging him for pity..., But she wasn't. Instead of lowering her head she lifted it, a stony glare carved into her dark eyes. Fury blurred her sight but she tightened her jaw and continued glaring at him....

"This is nonsense..."Samuel sneer...

"Nonsense..!"Susan reiterated...."You stupid bastard.."She sneer almost at the verge of pouncing on him but the policeman blocked her making Henry to step in to hold her back but she didn't stop, the sudden movement intensified every fibre of rage inside her....

"Thief..."Susan yelled angrily making another attempt to get hold of him but Henry hold her back..

"Susan.."Henry mutter tightening his grip on her hand

"Leave me alone.."Susan shouted..."He stole her story then he got her arrested when she spoke out..."

"You're in a police station, I'll suggest you lower your voice otherwise you'll be sleeping in a cell tonight.."One of the policemen said to her..

Susan turn with the alertness of the voice to face the policeman, she locked eyes with him, jaw twitching with a hellishly mean glare...."You should be arresting this thief...., instead you're conniving with him to mistreat the victim, aren't you supposed to be on the side of justice...?"

"Susan..."Henry mutter making an attempt to drag her back

Samuel averted his eyes to his cellphone before facing the police again.."Please handle her.."He said, cast a devilish look on her before he began to walk towards his car..

"Thief..."Susan shouted after him...."People come and see the thief that stole my friend's story...."She yelled fighting to free herself from Henry firm grip but when she couldn't, she continued..."You're a bastard and a coward Samuel and I swear you're going to regret this decision because this isn't the end, do you understand that bastard.., this isn't the end.."

As Samuel walked towards his car, he stopped himself from looking back and concentrated on the fires of fury and hatred smouldering in his eyes as he weigh the cons and pros of tormenting Anita...

"Welcome sir..."His driver said opening the car door for him..

Samuel ignored Susan's insults and quickly jump into the backseat of the car.....

"Now who's that slowpoke calling you names..?"Festus quickly ask from the front seat of the car the moment the driver close the car door and hurried over to the driver's seat...

Samuel sniffle wishing the sniff can calm the raging storm inside him, when it didn't, he angrily threw his phone on the chair, it bounced and clattered on the car floor..

"Driver can you take a cab to the house, Festus will drive.."Samuel said

"What..!"Festus exclaimed turning back to look at him...

"Okay sir.."The driver said

Samuel deep his hands in his pockets and took out five hundred naira notes and handed to the driver who quickly came down from the vehicle shutting the door behind him...

"Why on earth am I driving..?"Festus ask moving over to the driver's seat, he whirled the engine to a start and with a full speed he drove out of the compound sending dust into the air and giving the people present in the station something to look at...

As they drove out of the station, Susan fixed her eyes on the car until it disappeared out of sight, her facial muscles twitch before she shift her angry expression back to the policemen....

"Are you done..?"A policeman asked her as the rest who were gathered around began to dispatch..

She clenched her fist, her frowned face venting her disgust..."I want to see my friend.."

"Who..?"

Susan grit angrily at the stupid question...."The girl you arrested for no just reason.."

"Are you talking about that liar..?"

"She's not a liar.."Henry chime in angrily

"Oh really..!"The policeman said.."Then why did she say the millionaire stole her story..?"

Susan ran her hand through her hair three times in quick succession all the way fixing the policeman in a stare that could have frozen the Pacific.., she knew better no matter what she says, it'll be useless, the police has been bought by that thief in human skin, trying to convince them otherwise is totally useless....

"Can I see my friend..?"She ask with suppressed anger..

"You can't see her now.."The policeman said putting his hand behind him..

"And why is that..?"Henry ask

"She's been interrogated.."

"Interrogated.."Susan reiterated..."Interrogated for what.., she's not a criminal.."

"She did defame someone"The policeman retorted..."And that is why she's been interrogated.."

"She didn't defame anyone.."Susan said immediately..."She only spoke the truth, you should be on the side of justice not on the thief's side.."

"You should watch your mouth.."The policeman yelled

"And you should watch your actions..."Susan yelled back

"I'll get you arrested young lady.."The policeman said..."You cannot see your friend now.."

"When can we see her then....?"Henry ask holding Susan back...

"Tomorrow.., if her claims are true she'll be released.."

"What do you mean if her claims are true..?"Susan cut in taking a step forward but Henry hold her back..."Are you saying if you find her words to be lies she will remain here.."

"We don't know yet.."The policeman said..."And mind the way you talk to me, I'm not your father that you disrespect.."

"You cannot even be my father.."Susan fling back..

"I told you to mind the way you talk to me, you will sleep in a cell..."

"Do you think I'm scared of sleeping in a cell..?"Susan snarled, currents of rage beating from her forehead..."You want to arrest me, fine arrest me and let the whole world knows you arrest innocent people, arrest me same way you arrested my friend..."

"Susan.."Henry called holding her from moving further..

"What..?"Susan hollered at Henry as she tried to free her hand from his grip...."Does he think I'm scared of been arrested.."

"Take her from here.."The policeman said to Henry before he walked out on them...

"Useless man..."Susan sneer silently...

"You didn't have to talk to him like that..."Said Henry when the policeman was out of sight..

It's a sad reality in our country today- a yahoo boy acquires a land belonging to an aged man, and when baba swears the land was never sold, the said boy arrests the man and his case is never charged to court... It took the intervention of the traditional ruler and some other people to free him only to realise the papers of the land sold to him was forged. The injustices persist because we've failed to speak up and our system supports it.

The sad thing about lie is, when you lie, you'll need a thousand lie to cover that lie until you get confuse and land yourself in bigger trouble.
