The last set of entities I can ever pity are Nigerian banks, if you cry for them you are just wasting your tears. For any fresh charge imposed by the CBN na you and I go pay am. They will transfer every every to you, including unborn charges. So I was smiling when I read about how they were being treated by CBN. On pe grin grin

It's like some people don't understand the politics in that sector. Mefy is their person. He came from within them. Same with the previous governors. That's how they roll. There's no decision that is made public that they would not have deliberated over bottles of champagne, agreed on the remedies, before announcing. A coy like VITAFOAM should naturally benefit from this sought of scenario. ...they have a variety of product line that suites the home. Their management are simply taking advantage of it !!

FMCGs that are anti-fragile(UACN & FLOURMILLS) and those that play the H&PC line of business, like PZ should also likely benefit from it.

That 40% discount is a bit too much.
Infact, some banks may likely deliver near previous pegs. We have highlighted some of these points in times past here.

Look at their 2019 FP and u'll see that some banks(ZENITH, GTB, UBA...) are in line for massive earnings from arbitrage plays(revaluation gains, trade plays etc) given the current system dislocation from the twin 'evil' of covid-19 and oil price drop. ...especially those with a healthy loan sector allocation and lower risk with recovery drive.

Bottom line: Banks are usually always prepared !!
onegentleguy:

This should give u an idea of a way to benchmark the current fears from the pandemic to the margin growth potential of banks. ...and whether the fears are indeed exaggerated !!
U only need to apply a bit of 2nd-level thinking.
If they(those banks) could make as much as over 22B from just A/C maintenance in Q1, 2020, then u can only imagine what they'll make as a collective when u factor in other banking earnings channels !!

Like i've stated here in times past, folks should not expect any material drawback in banks earnings, even in Q2.
Yes, NPM(net profit margin) will be strained, but the banks will always find an alternative means of cushioning/reducing the impact level.
Unfortunately, this will often come at a cost to the real sector. ...but of course, good for stakeholders.

See FBN, UBN, FCMB.

We will soon see from Zenith, GTB, UBA and Access.

My brother, how these bankers make this money dey wonder me?

Na ngwongwo these people dey do there? grin grin

...Quite frankly, there are no surprises for me.
We highlighted these points long before now.(see 2 of such post above)
Think we also had a chat on this.

A close observation and I can see that there's a desperate attempt to push down the prices of some coys so some "unseen forces" can accumulate.

Hear this;
If u are in coys like GTB, ZENITH, UBA, ACCESS, ETI, HEALTH SECTOR COYS, UACN and WAPCO... then HOLD on tight and do sell out of panic.
I just laugh in Swahili when I see certain things. grin grin grin

The manipulative play seems even extreme in the last 2 coys.
Again, HOLD !!

We continue to observe.
Hope folks have seeing the fantastic result from FIDSON.
Triple digit % rise in NET INCOME. ...with other key revenue and earnings line also showing a remarkable improvement QoQ and YoY.

I have since said that all health coys are at this time, anti-fragile.

How far with UACN? They returned loss during Covid from from 1.2 billion profit in 2019 to 500million loss in 2020. This company is poorly managed and not out of the woods as many assume. The unbundling is a no brainer and it would have really helped the ordinary shareholders but it seems the management have sinister motives.

I will suggest you issue a disclaimer on this stock very soon especially with their unbundling noise that have died down?

UACN don cast for now jare. I warned people here about UPDC months ago but some members thought I was a doomsday prophet. My information was actually from a member of its finance department. UPDC remains the Problem Child of the group.

However, I still wish the unbundling crew the best outcome . It's never good losing money .

On UACN;

1st impression...
Set back in earnings was in the last 3 months, broadly the result of a material drop in finance income(from STinv) taking a bite off from NET MARGIN when compared to the corresponding period in 2019.
YtD though, value drive from growth proposition remains intact.
...with NCWC in the positive line(CA @ premium to TL), the coy still holds a fine prospect.
A look at the statement of cash flow, and I can tell that the worst days are over now.

Using an appropriate blend of valuation model, which extensively nets off a high risk premium from the assets valuation, my FVE estimate of UACN pegs @ N13.85, drawing from this financial print.

At the current mkt price, UACN remains a HOLD !!
...this, I maintain.

Again, HOLD !!
Should price drop, ACCUMULATE more.

They should Hold UACN and target N13 till one year ,two years or three? When you are not on the board of UACN?

I will advise investors to sell this stock and buy another that will give them peace of mind with interim dividend on top but at the end to each his own. We will continue to follow this one.

There's always a caveat attached to my analysis and views.
...nothing is subjective.

That said, UACN still retains a good measure of valua(risk-reward margin in view) and remains a HOLD for us !!
Anyone who thinks otherwise is very free to put out their stakes for sale and exit.

As for the unbundling, yes the noise needed to die down so it can happen when u least expect !! ...that's the way "things like that play themselves out in the NSE room.
Trust u still remember the past cases of the drive for value in IBPLC, FIDSON, BETA GLASS etc... and more recently DANGOTE FLOUR, DIAMOND BANK, NEWREST ASL, WEMA, MAY&BAKER, NEIMETH and many others. wink cheesy grin
I kept screaming here that there was an immense value proposition in them, but some folks doubted, until the time of reckoning came. ...then lamentations became their other name !! wink cheesy grin

The share price of KODAK(NYSE: KODK) rose by as much as 2,189% in just 2 trading days(Tuesday and Wednesday) following a surge in price since the week began.(over 2440% rise)

And yes, it actually did happen !! ...as the stock rose from a band of $7 to $58 at some point.

Why?
There was a news that the coy was awarded a $765 million act loan to produce generic drug ingredients for the fight against Covid-19. ...including hydroxychloroquine.(a drug substance touted as a plausible panacea to the virus)
...just that !!

So I took a close look at the company's financials to see if indeed the run was worth it.
Analysis;

• In the 1st 3 months of 2020, the coy reported an over $110M loss in NET INCOME with revenue dropping by above 1,000bps.
• Elsewhere, several key revenue and earnings lines were pressured downwards with some printing in the negative. ...EM/EPS, ROAE, ROAA, RoIC, AER and CGPR in view.
Infact the last 2 lines showed clear signs of a likely distressed asset.
• The coys cost line consistently grew faster than earnings margin QoQ over the last 7 quarters.
• The company is embroiled in huge debt, a large chunk of which will be due for repayment by Q3/Q4 2021. ...with BS also riddled with a relatively high level of funding mismatches.
• With a negative OCF, the coys CBR(cash burn rate) currently stands @ over $8M per month.
...the interpretation of this is that the company could become bankrupt if that burn runs for another 21 months.(bite on cash reserve in view) The coys ALTMAN-Z SCORE also lends a strong credence to this.

...and so for a company with a history of below par operational performance, poor management and cooperate governance framework, one wonders if such a surge in price was justified and if the company is indeed the best fit for such an award.
Quite frankly, there should've been a better choice than KODAK !!

Essence of this post?
Most assets in the US are not just overpriced but have gotten to a point where the combination of asset pricing and the quest for value has been completely replaced by RISK.(negative RR/reward in view)

Inference:
Unless u are a perfect trader with absolute control of their emotion(fear-greed factor in view), it'll be best to stay off most US-exchange coys.
Even then, u still need to thread very carefully, because no one is perfect.
"When it rains, it'll most likely pour."
For the most part, its now a speculators market.
Remember;
"The danger with SPECULATING in the stock market is that it is an adversary to any clear Investing STRATEGY.
...often times, 'it is neither here nor there'
With 90% of the act, it is just like attempting to invent an idea that is already obsolete."
~Sinclair

"When a company within the stock market wants to quickly dispose of a 'building without a foundation', it auctions it to a SPECULATOR.
An INVESTOR stays far away... a TRADER watches on... but it is the SPECULATOR who eventually buys the auction."
~Sinclair
