No, it's not exclusive to women alone.

And no, it's not only through artificial insemination.

Anyone can serve as a surrogate.

If you understand African Culture, you would have understood that such happens in Africa.

Even in the Bible, surrogacy is recognized.

Where it becomes an abomination is when one did it without the approval of the other.

big abomination in almost every part of the world.

Chapter 21

There is something about a beautiful woman who doesn’t know she is beautiful- more appealing, and attractive. Akwaugo was that beautiful innocent woman. He'd kiss her after a long wait! this time she was ready. Eager. She was waiting for him. And he’d hungrily took her supple pink lips, parting then with his tongue. Onu Ugu, like a flower in its bloom. Her innocence had always fascinated him- made him wants to possess her, yet he felt he shouldn’t rush into it. Their first sex together was a mere activity for her- a sacrifice she did for her husband, now he would want something more, to inscribe his name in her heart- to make her desire him for the rest of her life.

He'd see the disappointment on her face when he pulled away after seeing her to her room.

“Patience beautiful one. I want to have the whole of you” He was a man who take without reservations- he wouldn’t want to share her with her past, when the time would be ripe, she wouldn’t hold back.

“But you…I want to…” her warm breath had fanned his face; her fuller breasts rose and fall- it was difficult not to notice. His groin had betrayed him- turgid. And she’d seen it. Brushing his erection with her knee.

“When I finally take you, I will do that in a right way. I want to make sure you are totally mine my love”

He knew she didn’t understand, but he didn’t know if he could bear seeing her turn away from him- not after he had gone into her garden. “You are different my love, sex with you should be a special one.” He had kissed her deeply again, tucked her into bed “Good night sweet one, and thank you for bringing Ola home” having her in his arms was the best therapy for his fatigue, he’d miss her terribly.

Palm prodding his jaw, back relaxing, one leg dangling from the arm of his office chair, Morgan ran a finger on his lips- a smirk on his face. He was a happy man, everything he had ever wanted, delivered to him.

He rocked the chair side to side. I did the right thing- he said to himself, he had stopped them from making love, as much as he would want to devour her- plunge his manhood into the pinkness of her honeypot- make her see what she does to him. He would want to do it right, when there would be no law nor tradition to hold them back.

“Bringing her here- do you think it was a good idea?”

“Favor! When have you started barging into my office? I didn’t send for you” he faced the woman who dropped some files on his table.

“I knocked twice- you didn’t respond, its important you go through the files and append your signature”

He scanned through “Let me go through them first ma’am,”

“So, you buying a house for her- you know you will not always be there right?”

“That is why I bought that house for her. I want her to be free”

“I thought you want to make her yours?”

“the first time I met her, I was so taken by lust that I could trade anything to be with her- to get between her legs. The feeling was so strong. But I have learned from her” He stroked the back of his neck “I realize she is more than just another woman. And I wanted that something more- not just someone to roll and have sex with, I want her- the whole of her” he looked Favor on the face “You are married Favor and you love your husband so much”

She nodded

“So you will understand when I say I am so in love with her that it hurts. I want nothing more than see her wake up in my bed every morning. But I am scared she may change her mind- I don’t think I can bear it”

“Which woman would reject you sir? You are every woman’s dream…”

“Akwaugo is different. What excites other women doesn’t excite her, she has rejected me severally don’t forget” he frowned

“She came to you on her own this time. Sir, are you scared of heart break?”

Favor took the word off his chest. No matter how strong he was- Akwaugo had a way of disarming him and his confidence did crumble once he faced her. if she would one day get tired of him and decides to go back, he wouldn’t know how to handle it.

“When a woman walks into your life by herself, it means something sir. This is your opportunity to prove to her that you are different. Erase the ugly experience she had- woo her again.”

“I will not always be there, and that bothers me a lot”

“That I don’t have a solution to sir. Only you can make it work even with your busy schedule”

She was right. Buying her a house and all the cars in the world was not enough proof of his love for her. eyebrows squished together, he fumbled with the pen on top of the desk. “Only me can make it work” he repeated

“She had been battered Sir, it will take extra care to make her love completely again, don’t forget that”

Akwaugo knew his feelings for her and he’d swear she felt same. If he ever doubted- yesterday had given him all the proof he wanted. Yet his heart skipped. What did he know about making a woman happy? Every woman needs a man who would stay by her at all times- was he that man? Or would he bore her to the point of reconsidering this decision?

“I love her so much…my heart wants to pop out of my chest” he looked at the older woman for a better description “this feeling is…exciting yet scary. Now I have her here, I feel I may hurt her somehow”

“there is nothing to be afraid of sir. Love is a beautiful thing” the woman smiled “She is really beautiful- like a goddess”

He nodded as the woman walked out of the office. That could be why he felt inadequate. Akwaugo reminded him of a fair goddess to be worshiped. Graceful. He slid his fingers to his chest- through his shirt and stroked the ugly scare on his chest. An unending reminder of what both of them had been through- a tale that had kept him away from any other woman since the incident. He had waited for the day she would return, now he didn’t know what to do to make her see him worthy.

*

When she pulled the papers from the big brown envelope. Akwaugo had no slightest idea she would be signing a document that would make her a sole owner of a four-bedroom, two sitting-room duplex.

“It’s yours ma’am. Once you put your signature”

Ma’am! who ever addressed her as Auntie in the village except little children and few customers? Mezie made sure she lost everything- including respect. Now she’d turn to ma’am. she chuckled; tears trickled down her face. what was he doing? Why would he buy her a house? What was he paying her for? “It’s a new house. I think he bought it because of you” the nice nanny had hinted yesterday but she didn’t understand.

“Ma’am?” The lawyer handed her a pen.

Her hand trembled. Her heart raced. What would she be doing with a house as big as this? She sniffled, carefully unfolded a piece of folded paper that fell from the envelop;

“My love. You are worth much more than anything money can buy. However, I want you to have this little token as the mother of my little princess, and the woman my heart beats for…”

Why would he do this? emotion like gushing water on her face almost choke her. how she wished he would understand she didn’t care for this as long as she had him by her side. Her gaze roamed the heavily furnished sitting-room, she wasn’t here for what he would give her. not that a little change and taste of wealth would be bad anyway. She was here because she felt a strong nudge- a force pulling her to him. “We are meant to be together; can’t you see?” he had said to her at the hospital. It was his love, the seed he planted more than a year ago, that brought her to him.

“…I want you to be free, not to think you owe me anything, I want you to live. For only when you are truly free will you love me properly.”

She folded the paper. Leaned forward and signed the documents. “Here” she handed them back to the Lawyer

“This is your copy now ma, congratulations”

Morgan…who are you really? Everything was happening so fast that she feared she would wake up and it would all be a dream. Lips stretched in a soft smile, clutching the document- she hop-skipped to the sofa where her baby lay

“Look at this princess” she flapped the envelope before the baby who babbled, throwing tinny fists and laughing “Yes Olaedo…we now owe this big house!” the baby’s eyes fixed on the envelope- she squealed and tried to grab it. “No darling, this is not for gnawing” she tossed the document on the sofa and picked the baby. “You are happy, aren’t you? So am I” she kissed her cheek and cooed.

She thought of calling her mother? Yes! She must be dying to here from her. what would she do if she hears about the house? A smile crept to her lips. Her father would swallow his own words “Nothing good will come out of this thing you are planning with your mother! A woman is supposed to remain with her husband till death do them part”

Mezie would conclude that she had slept with half of all the men in Lagos to get a house. Not that she cared anyway. She thought of Nwamaka- what would she be doing now? She would call her too but not immediately. For now- she would leave for the moment and enjoy what life threw towards her.

He didn’t come back that night. She had waited- peered through the window, sat outside- stretched her ears to pick up the sound of his car. She was giving in to the heaviness of her eyelid when her phone buzzed.

“Another meeting, I will be with you soon, love you my beautiful one”
