The only reason I support something similar is because of the circumstances that lead to Asimolowo having to leave UK to relocate to Nigeria.
Churches over there are registered with the UK Charities Commission so they don't have to pay tax amongst other things.
As a result the UK Government insists on a clear separation between Church and Leader/Owner whatever, something that is needed in Naija.
When KICC's accounts were audited, it was found out that the church were buying properties and registering them in Asimolowo's name.
Obviously no one at the church would have been able to complain as Asimolowo had overall power and it was a good thing that the UK Charities Commission could do something about it.
I think he was sanctioned and the Charities Commission appointed someone to run the church accounts for a while.
It is those kind of excesses that I am in favour of the government intervening in.

well said. Nigerian churches are already in the know of some of these regulations but will use religious blackmail to deceive. It's even a Nigerian law that as a trustee member of a church, you can't earn salary from the church and if you must earn, you must be removed as a trustee. I know pastors who have to remove themselves as trustees to earn salaries and gifts from the church

count down.
It's going to be bloody!
Many ignorant Churchgoers will be dealt with like the scapegoats, because they don't know that it has nothing to do with them.
This is a dispute between the gods or idols in the world!
According to the Bible book of Revelations, there are three major players in the world today:-
[1]The Wild Beast ~ World Rulers. Revelations 17:16

[2]Babylon the Great ~ World Empire of False Religion. Revelations 17:5

[3]Merchants ~ World greedy Commercial system. Revelations 18:15

These three are the ones controlling the world and everything that's happening on the planet now. As long as the cordial relationship between them lasts, slavery will continue on this planet, they will only change from ancient to modern! smiley

But God's word revealed that number one will deal a heavy blow on number two and number three will mourn because it's their cooperation that's making business thrive for him! Revelations 18:16-18

The count down began 100 years after the Jesus miraculously released his followers to start preaching and teaching globally.
Right from 1919 when the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses were released from prison, they began a global preaching and teaching campaign, they continued throughout the twentieth century until it's 100 years later when a global pandemic forced them to stop the house to house preaching globally in 2019. That was a turning point for the Politicians who often regards the religious title chiefs as "Men of God".
The Politicians are no more deceived by the pretexts of the religious title chiefs, because they failed to combat a pandemic despite all their stage-managed signs and wonders.
So they now have the boldness to look into their faces as common businessmen who are just reaping where they didn't sow.
So the countdown began last year!
1919 ~ 2019 makes a hundred years that Jehovah's Witnesses have been preaching from house to house, Covid19 is the mark reminding all those who knew this fact that it's time for the fulfilment of the Bible book of Revelations 17:15-18 smiley

Is it not Northern Muslims we know again?
If Nigeria is secular why should the govt interfere by appointing trustees?
We know they would appoint Northern Muslims as trustees and close church account as a means to silence them
The Northern trustee Muslim would immediately order mosques to be built in Canaan land, prayer city, Redemption camp so they can pray anytime they come to check their investments

Nigerian GOs don't want to be accountable to anybody, they use God to cover everything. In scriptures when tax was demanded from Jesus and his disciples. Jesus complied sharp sharp. I wonder which bible Christians claim to read today.

Churches are meant to operate as Charity organization devoid of any business transaction. Am even in support of Churches opening factories or enterprises to create more employment but they must pay tax as long as they make profit. Doing all sorts of businesses and hiding under church to evade tax cannot continue. Lots of churches In Nigeria have camps, quest houses, lodges they give out for fees and rates, why won't they pay tax on such transactions. Nigerian churches should be more informed in this age and separate business concerns from the Church itself.

This Churches do business as a matter of fact. Do you know how much Olukoye of MFM raked in for his numerous books sales, under the church's name? Do you know how much some churches make in terms of renting halls to their members during special occasions like weddings, and even mosques. At least, I know of Lekki Central Mosque, they have a hall, inside the mosque, you can rent it at 300k for your event. So, what are we talking about? Churches and Mosques have day-cares, these are no charity anything, they collect fee from their users, aren't they suppose to be taxed? But no, Nigerians will argue otherwise, just out of hatred for the person occupying the post of the president presently. we are never objective, but will compare ourselves to saner climes. Saner climes kill huna there grin

truth is the govt is aware of all this and plans are already in motion to put things right. I discussed this with someone in the know today and he says it was covid that even slowed the govt down that all laws have been put in place and people well trained to actualize this. anybody can rant but no one especially in this govt fears these pastors anymore especially Pentecostals [sad for them]. The person even told me that none of them was even contacted when covid guidelines were being put in place which is a big statement the govt has made so far.

So what exactly will this translate into? Churches will stop to exist as business entities or churches will close down? Someone should please explain.
Church books ( offerings, tithes, intakes, donations, etc) would be open to official scrutiny & accountability. Any infractions/ mismanagement will be sanctioned by the govt.

It's not about the account per say!

These people know themselves well, the ignorant Churchgoers are just ranting over what doesn't concern them!

The real cause of the problem is "who controls the people?" the government or religion?
The Politicians depends on their people to retain seats, but the religious title chiefs are influencing the elections, so to restrain such the politicians wants to reduce the power of religious leaders.

Before now they've been using the people as scapegoats, the Politicians will battle for power, use their own people as instruments to fight for them, put uniforms on them and send them to kill themselves so that they (Politicians) can retain their positions, it's the religious title chiefs that will come and offer prayers before they send the people to go killing themselves, it's the business men that will make money from weapons.
But now politicians are finding religious leaders a menace to their position, so in order to reduce their power something has to be done.
About two decades ago, the Politicians taught of taxing the church but it failed, few years back they taught of retiring the religious title chiefs this failed again, but now Covid19 has exposed this religious leaders as common businessmen reaping where they do not sow.
All those trying to come in between them now will just end up like scapegoats. They know themselves and they understood very well what they're dragging! smiley

In UK, US and Canada, the church was registered as a corporate entity with an article of incorporation noting that it is a business with 501(c) denotation.

But in Nigeria, they claim to be churches out to (not save souls) but nail prosperity into the head of even the laziest fellow in the congregation.

Churches and mosques are profitable organizations and must be taxed. Oyedepo only fumes whenever money is involved.

There must be written, oral and practical exams before a church/mosque is registered. After the written and oral exams, the pastor/imam will be given a blind or deaf or dumb to reverse their situation. Those who can will get Tier-1 certificate. Those who cannot get Tier-2 and 3 certificates. Just like a business, the church/mosque must show its Tier level in all its communication. Unless the pastor/imam specifically agrees not to engage in peddling miracles (false advertisement).

You are a bastard lying..I am based in N.America and i can tell you that..church is registered as charity..not corperate stuff.Get your facts straight and stop talking nonsense..Also in those societies they dont tax church..because you cant tax charity organizations.

Brother, I am a Christian, what the guy you replied said was right. So many things are wrong with the Christianity we practiced in Nigeria which has now been exported to other African countries.

No offering or money can provoke God .

Because of poverty, many men of God are motivational speakers. Words are stronger than gun. Students have gone on riots after been addressed by their leader because of the words he released into their hearts. It is the words that radicalised a man to become a terrorist.

When 80% or 90% of documented testimonies are based on blessings after a provoking offerings or Church projects seed sowing carefully termed kingdom investment, then that is the wisdom of man to compel men or drive them to give provoking offerings to get the same result which is not possible. This is more than gun.

You are a fake christian 100%..who are you deceiving yourself abi us..No true christian that Jesus is truly his/her Lord and saviour will ever open his/her mouth and talk chaff against the church or men of God.
