baby124: Hypocrisy. That's why this nation remains where it is. You leave what happens in the entire nation and pretentiously consign it to the Igbos, just because of your dislike of the Igbos. You deliberately act as if it does not happen in your tribe. Anyway maybe you are still very young and have absolutely no experience or knowledge in this matter. I advise you to ask Yoruba elders around you if such a thing has never happened or it does not happen in your own tribe. Ask the northerners around you too if such a thing does not happen. That can help you for clarity when you discuss such a heavy matter as this. I am not a Chinese. I am a Nigerian but I also think you are a very young person with no experience. |

Dickeyrider: I agree with you completely. I am from Anambra state, and a strong advocate for an egalitarian society. Ndigbo are largely a confused people. How on earth did they come up with such obnoxious culture of disinheriting the female child? How is that even supposed part of any culture? Isn't that the height of insensitivity, intolerance and gross senselessness? I am still in shock that there are no jubilations happening all around Igboland by woman groups and female Igbo elites around the world. This is indeed a landmark achievement. But the big question is; do our women even know this? I am ashamed for them. I have two children; a boy and a girl. God in heaven knows that I will give them equal inheritance. |

CoolAmbience:calling our fathers and mother's confused people is the height of ignorance, Little wonder, they say that The Igbos wake their fathers with a sliding kick, And I'm beginning to see reasons to why the insertions and maybe, you're among those that wake up their fathers with the said sliding kick. If a man shares his properties or better still make a will while, alive, I don't think if there will be a room for all this Jabberwocky. 1 Like |

trutharena:stop watching too much AfricanMagic, it's not good to your mental reasoning. If you believed all that you see on TV then you'll all believe that cobwebs actually came out from spider man's body, If you believed everything you see on the TV, you'll actually believe that America has developed a teletransporting or invisible vehicles on other science related fictional movies. All are imaginations. You can also believe that money rituals actually makes one rich as in the case of Pete Edochie, You guys called him a ritualist. |

arinze3131: Yoruba men that usually marry multiple women and abandon them to suffer, are the one rejoicing over this news,, really funny! If you check the family background of all afonja men,,, salivating on this thread,,, their mothers all got married to different Yoruba men. What makes up their families is step sisters and brothers, you barely find biological siblings in a single family. |

BabaRamota1980: Lol. Nice one. But if you have the experience and deep knowledge of the culture, you would know that people would continue to practice the culture including the ladies affected, Supreme Court judgement regardless! The Supreme Court missed some key opportunities: It assumes it’s only the father‘s estate that is being shared. No mention of the mother’s. Now from my earlier post, I mentioned the mother’s estate. When an Igbo girl is being married off, the same tradition people are trying to denigrate gives her her own inheritance to take to her husband’s house. It’s called Idu uno or Idu ulo depending on the accent. And like I said, Igbos won’t give ancestral lands to their daughters as inheritance. They inherit other property. 1 Like |

AmazonTopaz: They can not be right at all times. Sometimes they pass judgment by emotions (and who say they don't take bribes). Its just civil to abide by thier judgment. At times you can be right but due to your inability to produce convincing evidence, the table will be turned against you. You actually knew you bought a used phone from a friend without receipt only for you to be told you stole the phone. Get it. |

CoolAmbience: There is no jubilation on the streets of Igboland By Igbo women because we all know that Supreme Court judgement is on paper. The problem is that Many people don’t study yet jump to conclusions. The real question is what inheritance are we speaking about? It’s broken into several parts: 1. Native land owned by the father is for the males Only. Non-negotiable. 2. Bought-over land, cars, liquid assets, etc Owned by the father is for all the children. 3. Bought-over land owned by the mother is at her discretion. 4. Houses built on native land for the mother is bequeathed to her last son. 5. All other properties of the mother E.g Bought-over land, Jewelry, cars, clothing, shares, trade equipment, shops etc are inherited by the daughters only. Non-negotiable. 6. At every daughter’s traditional wedding, she is given her inheritance in cash, goods, car, home furnishing etc as much as her family can afford to go and build her life in her new family. This is at the basic level. So, if you are indeed from Anambra state, you should have known this as Omenana! This is the egalitarian culture you seek. You should research more on it if you haven’t already and gain more knowledge. This creates a balance in the Igbo society. |
