[Leave child alone. Nothing is wrong with him/her quote author=kenny1111 post=95210489]Good afternoon everyone,

please I need advice from all parents and Educators and parents on Nairanland. today I just realized my 3years old son cant even read Letters A to F talk less of A to Z but can read Figure 1 to 10, I am seriously worried.

I don't stay at home except for weekends as I am working outside my state, but due to the curfew I find my way back home yesterday so I was able to discover this problem in the early hours of today.

I know the mother is trying cos I have seen different live videos where she was teaching him and working on his assignment, most times I pity the boy so much because of the beating from his mum alone makes me sick but I can't really complain since I know is for his own good and I know how stressful it is for a mother with 2 kids to manage her time and all that....

I called his teacher immediately and she told me my son will be going to Nursery class when the present term is over due to his age, sadly she didn't say things I expect to hear from her so I told her I will visit the school once the curfew is over, I need explanation, is private school that bad these days ? my son can't even write 2 and 3

I have bought Video CD, bought many play book materials containing letters and figures displayed boldly, I bought counting and so on when he was 2 years so i expect a better result by now.

pls sir and ma, I need help on how to guide this boy to learn better, what should I do and how should I go about it.

Note: any time I am home, I always go through his books, assignments and read his school rhymes for him.

pls Help

Perhaps your child is suffering from dyslexia. See a doctor! Your child's doctor can help determine whether there are physical problems, such as vision problems, that are causing or contributing to your child's condition, and she can refer you to specialists who can diagnose and treat learning disorders. These may include an educational specialist, an educational psychologist, or a speech therapist.

Kids are like that. Buy him a board and start teaching him everyday.he will learn gradually

I know a boy who read an entire chapter in the Bible just before he turned 4 as an assignment in my congregation from the platform and he did it brilliantly.

Kids develop differently. Also, he may have a learning disability. See an educator to discern.

They shouldn't be too hard on him lest he becomes painfully shy and inadequate when he grows up (Collosian 3:21). That is worse than the present problem

A word is enough for the wise.

Beating a three year old is just wrong. Can't lend advice beyond that. Stop that immediately and we move on. A traumatised kid is a closed shop. At their age learning should be fun.

At only 3? The poor child is too young to read alphabets. Do you want him to go to the University at 7?

Please take it easy, let the poor child enjoy his life

The only problem your son has is that he's still young. Do not compare him with other kids that are doing such at his age. Remember individual difference. He's still a boy. Back in the days, kids don't start school until they're 5. Back in the olden days, they don't until their hands reaches the ear from across the head.

I think he's not mentally ready at that age. He'll catch up and you'll be surprised

@Op, in addition to what others had posted.
My second son at three couldn't write the normal A B C's but had a firm grip of the pencil. He wasn't a talker at that age. His teacher even told me my son needed spiritual help and you needed to see how I told her off.

I had to withdraw all my kids from the school.
Today he is 8 years, and had been taking overall first position in his set since he was 5 years. He is now in primary 3.
So my dear, calm down for that child, make learning fun and not tasking for him.
Some children like my son and yours are late bloomers.
You would come back later to give testimonies. smiley

My boy not a talker yet but seem quite intelligent. Struggles to muster some word but understands well and runs errands. Won't accept cheating from his older ones and seem to know what he want (cloth, shoes, bag, food) at his age.

The little boy took after your wife. She couldn't read A, B, C, D, - H until when she was 10years old.Wicked parents. At age 3 you want the boy to memorize the Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary. God is watching you and your wicked wife

Nothing is wrong with your boy...

Tell your wife to stop beating him, he will not learn by beating and shouting... Go to the school and talk to the class teacher to help you put more efforts in teaching him...

I will also advise you change the school and also confirm that the boy is not passing through stress, A child of 3yrs old should not be spending more than 5hrs in school (8am to 1pm)

I hope your wife is not the type that drops him off in school as early as 7am and pick him up by 5 or 6 in the evening?

Try and see things through by yourself... Sometimes all in the struggle to make ends meet, we tend to do it at the expense of the care and conducive environment that this innocent kids need.

Thank you.

He is three years old for God's sake. The problem now is children get into school too early these days that's why a child is getting beaten at three cos he can't recite alphabets or write them. Please tell your wife to stop beating that child she is destroying his confidence and he now associates learning with pain so whenever she tries to teach him because of the fear his brain will freeze. Infact get him a private tutor who will be more patient with him. Download videos for him alot of them, then cut and paste letters in his room so he can see them always and learn to identify them. Lastly, do not buy into the thought that something is wrong with him, absolutely not. Children develop at different paces. Best of luck.

A similar case was brought to a doctor I know who is a specialist(pediatrician), the parents were told not to overpamper the child, he should be allowed to crawl, touch, feel, play etc after few months he did improve.
