Her dad's family wouldn't allow her dad to be hurried on his land for their own selfish gain. They therefore dug other places where they want to forcefully bury the man. She sued them but they begged her to withdraw the case that her wish will be granted only for them to later carry out their own initial greedy plan. Which one is it you don't understand? This story is one sided. What was the relationship between you and your uncles before now. ? The Land, is it exclusively your dad's? Why were 3 graves dug?

Hope you are not trying to justify this barbaric act. I don't think she is trying to gain anything other bring to our notice how sick some cultural practice are. Greed permeate every fiber of an average igbo man's nature. Over emphasis on monetary success as a yardstick for measuring how much respect and dignity you get is the main reason why they hate one another so much. Anything to earn that respect is considered good even if it brings pain to others. They say Yoruba and Hausa are jealous of them because of their commercial successes across the country. But an average Yoruba and Hausa is more United than the Igbos can ever be. A saying among the Yoruba has it that" Owo ma tan, Eyan Loma kun' . Translated roughly, good relationship is more valuable than wealth. Igos need to learn that money is not everything.

6. Despite the money given to the woman she cooks with firewood upstairs.
7. The woman and children were asking the man's Will to be read while the corpse was still in the mortuary.
8. Anyone that cares should come to Oguta, Imo State to verify for himself or herself.

So you are saying they killed their father?

How did you know how much they are giving to wife and children

Is it culturally wrong to bury someone at the back of his house as long as its the same compound

I feel your pain and ignorance at the same time. So sorry that you had to go through that to bury your dad. Why throw an entire ethnic group under the bus. For your information, there are bizarre cultural processes in every ethnic group world over. A little investigation would reveal that to you.

A Nigerian lady has taken to Twitter to narrate the bitter events surrounding the burial of her father,Igbere TV reports.

@ijayy_ who revealed that three graves were dug just to bury her father, stated that it was because his kinsmen hijacked his corpse.

The lady further disclosed that her father's kinsmen refused burying him in his land because it is a ''virgin'' land.

Igbere TV reports that the Twitter user who noted that everything one sees in Igbo movies are true and in fact worse, advised women to always study the culture of Igbo men they want to marry.

Its common knowledge that igbos are evil even to themselves. I dont know how anyone cant see that. Thats why some of the wise ones come to yoruba to marry but still end up corrupting our heritage.
No people are perfect.. They still suffer in a Yoruba man's hand who doesn't understand monogamy.. Shey no be this my neighbour who married yoruba yet the husband is sleeping outside like goat, even brought back a child from another woman.. Leave that thing jor

A public poll was conducted on Wazobia fm radio some years back asking Nigerian ladies which Nigerian tribe's men they would love to marry and why

90% of the ladies that called and gave their names all said Igbo. I mean Hausa, Yoruba, I jaw, Urhobo, etc women phoned in and said Igbo men, and their reason is that Igbo men take very good care of their wife and children and don't joke with the welfare of their wife or kids.

They said why they wouldn't want to marry Yoruba men is because of their open promiscuity and marrying multiple wives openly and secretly which their main wife usually find out when he dies.

They said Yoruba men prefer to take care of themselves first before thinking of caring for their wife and kids.

Many Yoruba ladies married to Igbo men phoned in and said they bless the day they met their Igbo husband.

Don't take an opinion of a wayward girl, an efulefu who thinks bad mouthing her own tribe will make other tribes love and cherish her. Just look at it, is the girl not foolish

Yes some communities and families in Igbo land have some horrible practice or culture that is no longer healthy for 2020 lifestyle, it's not common in all Igbo communities and families.

My only advice to ladies is, before you agree to marry any man from any tribe, look at his family members, his siblings especially, their personality matters a lot.

I have a Yoruba lady friend whose father was a rich man, but unfortunately they were only girls; 2 girls, so when their father died, her father's siblings told their mom to take only their fathers house in abuja and forget the ones in Ibadan, Lagos, Abeokuta and in their hometown. That how can she take everything their brother acquired when she doesn't have a male child for their brother. Are they also Igbos

This thing is a common greed among Africans and mostly dependent on families and communities not a whole tribe.

Me personally, one thing I would like Igbos to change in their culture is the tradition that makes it that a woman cannot inherit her father's landed properties, but this is applicable to village lands because they believe she is supposed to be married and don't need to own any land in her father's place after she is married. But I would love this to change and my family have already made up our minds to change such nonsense tradition anyway.

These are some of the reason other tribes are running from becoming Igbo inlaws...
What is wrong with burying a dead body in a virgin land?..the essence of burying is to avoid the decomposing body contaminate people in the surrounding....and to serve as a memorial or monument for the deceased...now, this aim has been defeated by fighting on where to bury an ordinary corpse....what a shame!
Go to the north and see how they bury their loved ones like a chicken and move on....
The burial program is one of the main priority programs in Igbo land....while it is one of the least priority in both Hausa and Yoruba land...
Tueh!/ I spit on your deluded cultural mentality
To each his own.. If Hausa and yoloba like they can continue burying their people like chicken as u acclaimed, is no one's business afterall the abokiiii behave like one while alive

Feel like crying now reading what the man passed through before his death. A man that has labored for his wealth only to be treated as trash in his old days when he should be enjoying his life.

I swear, I dey pity any man with good money but married only one wife. I don't want to talk more before ladies start attacking me but many men are going through what this man passed through.

I think you need to open a thread to counter this.

Igbo are kind of tribe that are full of themselves, they believe they're better than you because of their ritual money whereas they're empty in all areas

Igbo as a tribe is a cursed to humanity, as it is today my woman were forced to child labour outside of her region when her late parents died, just because they're all ladies, all their father's land shared by their dad brothers and family and the kids were abandoned

the woman that brought her to Lagos for child labour eventually do her a favour though because she fell in the hand of good Yoruba parents who adopted her and sponsored her from primary school to tertiary

going to pay her bride price in East, these fools that abandoned them still come outside to collect bride price. Igbo people are shameless

It's not about tradition, in fact when a man dies, he should be buried in his property whether land or house.

This is share wickedness from your father's relatives.

My observation is your mom is probably not Igbo or from a different part. Probably you have been brought up by your mom to believe your uncles are envious of your dad and will hurt you cos they don't have their own children. You have probably had nothing to do with them. Probably you and your parents have not gone to the village in many years. Upon his death you realize that you have a family burial ground somewhere in the village. Did he build a house in the Land or in your mom's place.
Tell the full story for me, I am very conversant with Igbo culture and something must have caused that attitude of your dad's people.
