The man let it out to his brothers when he could not bear the maltreatment from the wife and daughters because the only son is abnormal. As I said in the post, you can come to Oguta, Imo State for more verification. It's not a hidden fact. The father's brothers and sisters are all well to do. They have professors, lawyers and never lacked. Ask the girl the name of their uncles and where they live to know the fact. NoToPile: 1 Like 1 Share |

Look Op!!!! Am a core igbo man and i must confess, igbo traditions arent bad as u paint it.I recently buried my uncle and no complains whatsoever. You were just unfortunate that you have wicked uncles thats all.And wicked uncles exist in all parts of the world. So pls letsbe guided. Wat u should say is that "ur hubby's family is wicked" and stop saying igbo culture is sick. You disappointed ur late hubby by not standing your ground.Wat u will do is to prevent them from trying to sell ur hubbys land and thats wat you should focus on. 2 Likes |

If you had taken your time to read her story, you would have deduced that the graves (two I guess) behind the building must have been dug by the wife and children. Whilst the one in front is being dug by the kinsmen. Hushpuppies: |

The danger of a single story. It isn't an igbo thing, it's the wickedness of your family. When my pops died, my bro was just 18.My fathers elder bro made sure to carry him along. He showed my brother their ancestral lands and how they will share it. my bro wasn't even aware of these lands cos my dad was a very private person. My Uncle was a father to us until his death last yr. He even visited me in the boarding school. He let my bro as young as he was sign for the family. 16 yrs later, my bro gifted him a massive duplex, set up his children. Unfortunately he died last year and we all consponspored his burial. We felt his death more than the death of our father. There's nothing you say that can separate us and his children. 14 Likes 2 Shares |

It is very wrong painting the Igboman, and his culture black. Everything has procedure and processes of doing it. No ethnic group or tribe does not have a culture which they are identified with. Cultural practice of tribes might sound weird and alien to strangers but that does not make it totally bad. See, that lady was faster than her shadow in the scenerio she painted. If I could deduce her wrongs from a story she narrated, how much more when the custodians of this tradition lent in their voices. She acted wrongly to have hurriedly taken her dad's body to the mortuary without one of his late dad's kinsmen involved in the evacuation of the corpse. Infact, it is a taboo for a woman especially not yet married woman to carry a man's corpse to the mortuary. It could be excusable when done by the man's son or even his married daughter. When it comes to burying a corpse, the family land automatically becomes a communal land. The kinsmen may stall the burial process if the deceased was owing the community before death or if he committed an act that was sacrilegious to their custom. When a person is excommunicated amongst his kinsmen during his life time, his family would need to appease the land before his burial. I believe the lady never invited her dad's kinsmen, even his immediate brothers because they were suspecting that he was killed. Igbo custom is never the worst. Thank you 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Verysmart101:Mr man go and read the story again and also read an account of a witness of the said burial here on this thread. The man died out of negligence and wickedness of his wife and daughters (the twitter lady ranting this nonsense). They said the man died of a mysterious illness and he was well to do haven worked with CBN, which is probably where he got the illness because Nigerian government jobs are a death trap, especially CBN, nnpc, etc, as soon as you get promotion, prepare for your early death or go and fortify yourself with all kinds of juju to prevent evil arrows from your colleagues from different Nigerian tribe's trying to bring you down to take over. So after the man got ill, his wife and daughters started maltreating him and his only son as they said seems to be suffering mental illness The man died and the wife and daughter refused to inform his brothers who are even richer than him, not as if they are hungry, they are professors, doctors, etc....so the whole issue boils down to her father's siblings trying to fight the wife and daughter for ill treatment they gave to their brother that resulted to his early death. The girl is evil! 5 Likes |

I am afraid for this generation. We are too quick to believe anything we read online. How can sensible human beings jump to conclusions and start judging a matter as dicey as this without asking questions? It seems our brains have been taken away from us. How can you condem a whole tribe because of what happened to one family? 5 Likes |

Every land has their culture. An Igbo man belongs to the kindred family not nuclear family. Igbos don’t bury their kinsmen in the bush, they bury them at home. I don’t think it is a plot to seize the brother’s empty land. I think they are more concerned that the built house is not sold by the women. That is the major wahala 2 Likes |

Look at a supposedly brilliant you running with an unverified story. Advice: Always resist the urge to behave and think primitively. Think critically. Another lady put up an eyewitness account (subject to verification) alleging that the 'virgin' land is a piece of land located behind the man's building. However, the kinsmen insisted that he be buried in front of his house. These are the stories so far. Take them with a pinch of salt. Be careful rushing to make contributions. Mindlog: |

I think her major ptoblem is their refusal to bury her dad in the virgin land with fear that her uncles want to sell the land, so i will ask these few question ; 1. Was the land bought or inherited 2. How far is the land from ur dad's ancestral home. 3. What re the locations of the other two graves ? Cos i guess 1 must hav been dug in d virgin land 4. Wia was he finally buried cos from the pix i can guess its was in his compound From these questions i will conlude by letting u know 1. Igbos dont bury their sons far from their home that is why u see grave close to houses in igbo land 2. Grave location can only be decided by the 1st son if he is of age, or by an elder in consultation wit d deceased wife 3. Deceased daughters dont get directly involved in burials, they liase with the umu Ada who are the igbo version of feminists and their words are strongly respected 4. My dear dey return village somtyms u will understand these traditions and realise that most are not as wicked as other tribes are letting u undersand. My sympathy. NB ; no b every wia for ur community b ur ancestral home.o 2 Likes |

LadySarah:Don't mind the foolish girl. My late brother who married a Yoruba lady, his wife, a Yoruba lady don't joke with us. In fact our relationship with her have grown even stronger ever since my brother died. She now love Igbos and our family so much that she tells it to anybody she meets. It's all about family and not mostly about tribe. Evil siblings and family exist in all tribes and races. Look at what is happening in Queen Elizabeth family with late Diana's son; are they Igbos or blacks Family matters. Before you marry any man from anywhere in the world, take a closer look at his family members, especially his siblings their personality matter so much. 1 Like |
