Hello Experts,

So I wanted to find our my chances.

I am a Cloud/Infrastructure Architect with over 8 years of work experience. I am currently looking for a job in the UK under the Tier 2 Visa Skilled shortage list. I have seen tons of jobs. I see the new Immigration law takes effect from Jan 1 2021, for skilled workers outside the EEA. What are my chances of landing a good job. I am based in Lagos Nigeria. Also would it be possible if I visit the UK next year, see if I get a sponsor in the UK and come back to Nigeria to apply for a Tier 2 visa? Please I would like someone who is experienced for guidance.

Thank you.

You don’t need to come over to find sponsors, lol. Finding sponsors is not something you do by walking the streets of UK. Just apply for the jobs that fit your spec, indicate that all conversations must be via Skype (provide your Skype ID) or emails. Fine tune your CV to uk standard (they don’t care about your state of origin and age), then wait for recruiters to be interested in you and schedule interviews with you.

Your field is really good and you have a great amount of experience so I’m sure something positive will happen within 6 months of search. Regardless, you should be weary of the fact that your competition will be guys from Asia who are gods at IT, however, your strong point will be that you speak English better than them (leverage your English speaking capability).

You should only come to the UK if they ask your for a physical interview, but try your best to insist on remote interviews unless you have plenty money to spend.

Like say you start nursing in 2017 for naija, you for don dey plan to graduate this year...and to travel for easy well well

What am I trying to say? Make a plan and start working towards it from today.

Your easiest ways to migrate to the uk include: getting a job; enrolling in a course in the uk; or by having a spouse already in the uk...

We dont have any details about you, what you studied or your circumstances so we cant really give you advice...as wetin work for uche fit nor work for you, every man case different o

This advice is pure gold. I hope people interested in moving see this and learn from it.

If that 3 years had been spent getting a teaching certificate, IT proficiency or nursing degree, they would be here by now.

We (Dh & I) have only recently started saving with them (credit union). Yeah we are definitely open to other options but cos we are not actually ready yet, there’s nothing much to do now asides reading and learning from others first hand experience(s).

We actually know someone that got her deposit through the credit union so it was a referral.

It’s the Greenwich & Bexley Credit Union.

I don’t know how credit unions work but if you save with the LISA you get £1k free (at a savings max of 4K) from the govt provided you use the money to buy house or for your pension. That’s 25% interest, no union can give you up to that.

@beryour hi!

Can you post what you would like to ask me here so I can respond openly. If everyone spoke in secret, other people wouldn’t learn from our experience. Besides my privacy matters a lot to me (before some people will come and beat me up in my house grin)

Accept my apologies for declining the private message.

Hello. Good morning.
My brother studied Chemical Engineering. First worked as a teacher before he got a job with LG.
He works as a technician and does installation of various home appliances, air conditions, water heaters and the rest. He has been with LG for 5 years or so now. I do like to introduce him to this idea of getting a job in the UK so as to relocate based on his skill.

He is getting to almost 40, late thirties. Not married.

How possible can that be. I heard most job offers are for health workers only.

Is there a link or website one can be updated with job offers in the UK that is relative to their field.

If not for the age, Canada would have been the better option for technically skilled people like your bro.

Chem Eng, hmm, it’s not my field but I don’t think it’s booming as much as before OR it may be hard to get a job to practice as a Chem Eng.

however, if he wants to leverage on his teaching abilities, he may be able to teach Chem in secondary schools. If he has ace results, he may get in as a lecturer after doing his masters (this one hard die).

His ability to fix stuff can be done by the brits, and mostly done by small businesses who cannot sponsor.

It all depends on what you are selling..... if you checked ebay or amazon and seen it higher then that would give you some guidance

Whether the market/ demand will boom for each item then that hard to predict but if you see some items like that on Ebay, you can see how many have been bought to give you some indication.

in addition to what @Aphrodite007 said you can also check jobserve.co.uk and filter jobs based on those that are willing to sponsor. I suggest you contact the job recruiter directly. Also start with companies rather than recruitment agencies.

Yeah u can either keep stocks and sell locally on fb or gumtree or do dropshipping without keeping stocks.

However, unlike Nigeria Uk govt take imitations seriously. Infact it’s a criminal offence

Ah you see, I would have been a dead end. I think lagosismyhome is the plug for teaching. Let me mention Fati Lexus and dustydee too cos they may also know about teaching, I can’t really remember the teaching experts. Sorry.

Note that with Covid comes some changes and the full impact on the job market is not yet known

1. How young are these children... if the children are grown enough then the easier. The wife can work 40 hours while you can work 20hours during term and full time during holiday. If you are able to work all the time then that should be help the bank balance

2. My previous life smiley I used to be in procurement which is under supply chain. That industry likes UK experience and CIPS. So if that area then see if your school comes with CIPS certification or any UK certification as that would help

The job market after graduation nobody can predict. All na hustle and packaging. Know how to write your cv the uk way, know how to sell yourself well, pray and chase it with all you have . Some have had to go back after PSW. Some have ended up staying till citizenship. Na God hand e dey

Since you have NEBoSH , go to jobserve and jobsite, put in and start reviewing jobs relating to that and start plotting (lol) your pathway

Largely depends on the time you have spent here and records.

You could start up with Aqua or Capital one then build from there.

Adding to previous response,

1. Prospects of getting jobs in the UK are unknown at this time, especially with Covid and Brexit. Though nothing is impossible.

2. Having NEBOSH with your safety experience will prolly be useful but you will def need to do some additional courses in any of the choices made. You will be fine.

It's a combo mortgage and loan application, usually from the same lender....... The beauty of a broker........ grin

There’s even a company called ‘proportunity’. They provide you an equity loan like ‘help to buy’. Difference is the higher interest rate and it can be used with old builds.

My brother! Personally I don’t think you should waste your money on studying facility management. ... my reason being no body will employ you into facility management externally. You’ll need UK experience....

On the other hand You’ve got NEBOSH which i think would help you get loads of jobs for field service engineer all over the Uk. (I know few guys working on Wind Turbine and making good money .... If you not scared of working on height then Your NEBOSH would take u far.
I’ll recommend you look for more safety related courses to help you build an impressive safety portfolio....
