It's doable but what s/he is trying to tell you is that the time invested in both material and human resources might turn out too expensive considering the cost of respraying at the local panel beaters stall.

Normally, the entire car cannot be sanded by a sander, there are areas where only manual sanding can reach.. The front wheel arc has black mudguard and the rear is black and doesn't require paint.

I am only painting the exterior surface in same colour and will apply clear coat on sanded headlight and rear lights. I will have to tape/cover, windscreen and any black rubber/plastic including wipers, rear glass, windows and chrome trims, roof gutter trims, wheel arcs and tires, underneath the rear view mirrors, front bumper radiator vent, head light and rear logos. The rear lights will be removed.

Taping is the least job I consider.

Sading is the most difficult job while painting most critical. Most recommendations will say sand the car to the metal, this is never done by Nigerian painters. My car has already 2 layers of paint, so sanding to the metal is not going to be easy. The least work to do in the sanding is to remove the last clear coat. That's my aim. The other critical sanding job is filling and sanding imperfections. I know I have a good eye to spot them.

- I am not sure if the electric spray gun will be adequate. The main decision is buying the spray gun.
- The Spray gun itself cost more than half of the budget but if successful, I may do 2 other projects which will eventually be the cost advantage.
- I have no experience in paint mixing or thinning
- I am also afraid of the job being too tedious or that without a garage cover, dust may make the job bad.

Do not go into a business you have little idea about. Car painting is complicated, go to car mechanics that does body work and learn from them (not just reading books). I have taken my car for spraying and body corrections before...it is not as easy as it seems if you want to do it correctly.

GO AND LEARN IT FIRST...A LITTLE PRATICAL KNOWLEDGE WILL NOT HURT YOU.

On this job, I may not achieve the best standards that'll win titles but I know that the outcome won't be worst than the present condition. The only thing I am watching out for is the budget.

I have been reading and many things worry me about the job. As much as I want the result to be impressive, I only want what is acceptable.

Oh, I remember. I was supposed to fix my neighbors child bicycle chain this evening.

I started my DIY adventure 1 year ago. Now I repair my car myself. I bought several tools I need on aliexpress. I can tell you most of the tools I now have, 98% of Nigerian mechanics have never seen in their life.

I have tool to test my spark plug
I have tool to test my ignition coil
I have tool to test my fuel pump
I have tool to test my engine health
I have a diagnostic tool and a laptop
I have tool to test short circuit wires
I have tool to test bad fuse
I have electronic tyre pressure monitor
I have tool that cleans my plug

I mean if you see my tools, you will think I manufacture car.

Most people abroad are DIY specialists.

I believe you can do a good job on the painting of your car with the determination you have presently. Major thing is to try and lay your hands on do it yourself lessons on car painting, car painting ain't like house painting, more difficult or rather very different systematically. Go to YouTube channels and study how it's been done....I also do my cars painting myself but not all the full body, just the scratches and at times the bumper.....I normally use spray paint with the designated colours of my cars. That's easy though cos those spray paints are already mixed by the manufactured company and very original than the local mixing.....however, you still need to be careful to get the actual colour of your car.....I believe you are going to do a great job but remember to give us the feedback of the good job when you are done. You can also check out Chrisfix on YouTube and see some of his tutorials in case what your car needs is paint correction and not necessarily a total repaint. Since him too is no professional painter, you might find him easier to understand

Don't fret. Just make sure you get all your supplies ready and complete. If you get the sanding correct, and can go to 1000 to 2000 grit sandpaper, the paint job will be fine.
Sand. Sand. Sand. Sanding is the trick to a good output.

Don’t just watch those who get it right, watch those who get it wrong and see where and why that happens then u will know better and hopefully do better by learning from others experience.

Ure a handy man by hobby so that shud be an edge for u in terms of fitness, skill and adapting.

If you have not handled a gun before don't bother else you will make a mess of your car. Moreover, before you get all the right equipment for the job, you must have spent more than you were going to pay professional painters

You’ve never had any experience in painting B4 and that worries me.
From your write up, you’re a man of high taste and you want a clean job.

My brothers that stay abroad handle their issues. Like painting the house, fixing the rooftop and many others.(here, we hire carpenter or a painter)
Don’t know your paste experience, weather you are a handy man i.e A natural in fixing things.

If not, I think you should watch a lot of YouTube’ videos, also go out and see how others do their painting to get a real life experience b4 embarking on this journey.
If you get this right on your car. Trust me, other gigs are gonna come around. Starting with your friends

I started spraying at 10 and I can beat my chest that he will never do a perfect job. Spraying is beyond buying a gun and watching YouTube videos. One perfects with time. And he can't definitely use his car to learn.
There are so many factors to get right.
-The gun setting
-The perfect paint /thinner ratio
-The right paint with good coverage
-etc
