I really don't recommend that you paint the car with your own hands. It's better to either find a suitable specialist, or don't paint it at all.
Well, it depends. I wouldn't paint it myself, either. But I know lots of people who did it, as it safes lots of money.
I wanted to do everything right wiht the painting and coating, so I went to a car painter and got it done. I even got a ceramic coating https://nano-care.com/ceramic-coatings/, to seal the paint and safe it from scratches. It was a bit expensive but so worth it if you wanna keep the paint bright and shiny.

Good morning gurus in the house,

The Toyota corolla 2010 was bashed into a wall while trying to reverse the car and I need to have it fixed. I am presently in Kaduna. My issues are as follows:
1) Can anyone help me with a good panel beater and painter in Kaduna to do a perfect job
2) The car catalytic converter (indomie) is intact and I am worried that it may be stolen while the vehicle is being repaired. As a precaution, I am considering having the entire silencer removed and brought home while the car is undergoing repair.
3) What are the precautions and steps I need to take to get a good job done

I concur too

Due to work related unforseen events, the plan delayed indefinitely coupled with my inability to find a 1.3-1.5mm nozzle. The car too has been resting for a long while. I may be sending it to a shop soon. I can't even supervise it in the shop myself.

This compliant IWATA WS-400 gun I got recently has a 1.3mm nozzle and is perfect for clear coat.
This cost me almost $800.

Moral of this thread. If you want to paint DIY, DON'T.

Thread closed

I believe if you want a quality paint job you have to supervise it, you might even have to bring some of your tools.
I have discovered that some painters cut corners or don't think some things in the technical datasheet are necessary or required.
You might not need to do the actual painting yourself but you will need to supervise if you need a quality finish.

I have discovered within a short time that a number of painters are unable to produce a good finish when they use Sikkens product, atleast in Kaduna, they don't follow the datasheets or don't have the required tools.
They don't use guide coat to work on the body, they don't use the right gun for base, they don't know at what air pressure they are spraying, primer/sealer or clear, they don't even bake the car at the required temperature as stated in the datasheet. Alot of the ovens are substandard with the heaters not working. I have checked a number of ovens in Kaduna and I could only find one oven that has a working heater to heat a car to 60°C after painting as stated in the datasheet.

But a good paint job will cost you money, it's actually more expensive that an ordinary plant job.

I don't know how the workmanship is in Lagos or Abuja but I believe they should have better painters and better tools too.

I have done alot of reading and watched alot of videos but I'm still a newbie.

Tips For Ceramic Coating Maintenance
Here are a few tips for maintaining your Ceramic Coating. You should wash your car every two weeks to keep the coating clean and free of contaminants. Getting your car detailed is a good idea as well, but if you're unsure how to wash your car, follow these simple tips. First, hand-wash your car by using a two-bucket washing method with grit guards. Don't use an automatic car wash because it's too abrasive and may damage the paint. Also, be sure to dry your vehicle thoroughly using a microfiber towel. Air drying will cause annoying water spots.
