Nigerian man declared missing in Lagos found dead; See the suicide note he shared hours before he went missing

Nigerian man, Dele Bandele, who was declared missing by his friends and family on Tuesday, January 12, has been found dead.

Bandele, an advertising agent, was last seen at Omole Phase 2 and his last location was the 3rd Mainland Bridge.

Sadly, his body has been found.

Hours before his disappearance, Bandele left an apparent suicide note on his Instagram page in which he detailed his struggles with depression, He stated that he had battled with depression for seven years and was about to go find peace. He asked for forgiveness from anyone whom he might have offended.

He asked for everyone to pray for him to find rest and peace.

Please can you mention one of the drugs,my friend is battling with depression,due to sickness and financial challenge,his father has stroke and he(my friend) is battling with "chronic" headache for almost seven months now,he escaped 2020 i pray he will scale through this year.

That statement was deep coming from him. To even think he battled depression for 7 years while carrying out his daily activities makes me believe depression got no particular symptom to get people's attention to you.

You can look and appear like the happiest person alive in the public, social media or gathering, whereas you are mentally struggling and battling a lot.

You can battle it for 10 years without even knowing you are battling depression because you'll have to nurture your system on how to cope and endure overthinking, unrest and no peace of mind. All these will be endured without speaking to anyone because you've gotten use to it and feel it's normal until it hits you to the point you can't endure anymore which normally leads to suicidal thoughts.

Please learn to speak up when you start loosing your sanity and peace of mind.

Speak to who? Nigerians are too frustrated to listen to anyone and think of how to help. Most people are only interested in themselves and when they look your direction, they're only trying to see how they measure up and weaknesses to exploit.

The only right person to talk to is a qualified clinical psychologist.

Sharing your problems with a fellow Nigerian will worsen your situation and even trigger depression. I advocate self sufficiency — measuring yourself by your own standard and not what others think. You're enough!

Not knowing him almost didn't stop me from tiering out, all hasn't been rosy for me as well but suicide can never be an option.

Exactly the thought and note I ruminated over and over and over and over again particularly on 3rd of October 2020. I passed that day but I I'll celebrate it every year! This shit isn't easy at all. I'm still recuperating I'ma gonna drop fine❤️

I'm sorry for what you are passing through. My only advice is to ignore everyone and leave the rat race for them. Rather than follow their rules, reinvent yourself, create your own rules, and follow them. Find what you're passionate about and go for it.

This is my 14th year with chronic insomnia and all the associated complications — headaches (migraine), poor concentration, slow reaction time, etc. But we're kicking and moving ahead.

The only person who can strengthen you is you.

Are you sure of that, hey I don't know how to type long post so lemme keep my story for now. Putting it simply, I have known depression.

2017 could have been the year...but I am too strongwilled to give in. plus I thought of my mother, I loved her too much to put her through that pain losing a child again ( through such horrible act of suicide for that matter). God forbid!

Suicide is a stigma that can never be forgotten in generations. It's so painful and hurtful to the loved ones u will leave behind, most especially to your mother. If one dies by taking ones own life, the way it will get to ur loved ones cannot be compared to when one die by external factor. mehn! I don't pray for any of my family members or friends to go through that.

6 years ago, I had a medical Condition. With two major surgeries in a space of 2 weeks, and a newborn I was blessed with 2 days to my birthday. I had just concluded a masters degree a few months back... all hope was lost. The hospitals were on strike, blood banks had few reserves because of the strike. But with each excruciating pain I felt on my sick bed, I knew I needed to live. Not just for my self , but for my new born son, aged parents and darling husband. I couldn't bear to have my son grow up without me!
I am not here to judge the deceased, but to let other depressed people know that living is not just about oneself! If you love your loved ones, you won't want to cause them pain and let them live with the stigma of being labeled a 'family of a suicide victim'. This is Africa! Such stigmas never fade!

My brother, the problem is who do u talk to? The people u talk to dont even care, why some only advice you without offering any help even tho they have the power to help. With all dis things happening our government still not helping matters rather they are busy borrowing money to finance themselves and enrich their families.
