Didn't you just read the write - up? In a fully functional digital system, once you decide to change your name, it should reflect on all your documents, BVN, NIN, everything!
Wheh you get married, I hope you're willing to help your wife with the tedious process financially and otherwise. Afterall na your name she wan carry undecided

We also need to change our marriage traditional marriage system that put all the financial burden on men. In working society too, the financial burden is not on men alone grin

It is not hectic for a rich man who knows what he wants.

It's a very hectic process.

More hectic process men go through to marry you. Carry drink and family members to go visit your family.

Call friends and family, do small or big party to announce we are bringing new wife. You now come into the house want to keep your ex husband name or your father's name.

We should have just phone ur dad, and inform him that me and ur daughter will be living together and we both going to have kids together. no need all these processes.

Like that we won't have problem with the stress u will go through to change ur name.

What should be one's least of worries to be honest.
As long as my kids have my name, the rest is irrelevant.

Aside the system update issues they have no respect for men like our mothers respected our fathers then

Ladies of nowadays think they are so equal to men..Bunch of scally wags

Simple.

This thread is valid but just a bag of excuse for some ladies. I wish their husbands best of luck.

My wife changed her surname o but my brother's wife didn't (because my brother no mind). My point is, if the couple no mind, that's it. The two must agree. No model ur family based on what people post online

Just drop money, other things would be taken care of. No need to stress yourself. You'll just make phone calls and everything will be in place.

Probably we need to scrap marriage, we just put you for house, and you born the children.

Just like the yoruba way.

The Argument In This Write-up Is Very Valid.
So Please, Stop Blaming The Ladies.
They Are Willing, But The Process Is Stressful.
..
Blame The Crippled System.!!
Rather, blame the leaders with crippled minds

I have walked the walk it took me more than 6 months.

My eye saw wheen, GTB was using me to play ping pong because of BVN change.

First swear affidavit
Newspaper
NIMC - this one took less than a week for the change to be effected paid 1k charges.

After NIMC came out took it to the bank as a valid ID containing the new name, thats where wahala start. BVN change, they frustrated me to the extent that I had to carry my little baby to the
Bank.

Everything is so stressful in this country.

I swear....

I learnt it's in some cultures not to change surname to that of the husband..

Might be an ego thing but I can't tolerate that.

As you rightly said, you never see women complaining about changing surnames for Dangote...Buhari grin

Maybe not.... lol.

I have never understood the reason why anyone would want to change their name after they get married. What is the reason for this?

The point is: nothing is too stressful to be done for who u love.

If men begin to look at the financial stress they encounter all in the name of marriage and wedding, they wouldnt be doing at all.

I am currently facing this problem right now... I have done the affidavit, I have done the news paper publication, I went to nin to do my registration and nin is saying that the bank has to change my name first on my bvn before I use that name unless I use my maiden name. And the bank is saying get the new name from the nin then we change it. Just imagine the fix I am in
I just changed mine of recent

Your bank should change your name before NIN should do so

Nigeria is so bleeped up

How will you go about changing your name when you have already graduated from school that has all documents in your father's name? All documents bearing your fathers name remain valid while you go do the newspaper publication backing up the change of name. Or I'm I missing something?

FOR ME, CHANGING SURNAME FOR A LADY AFTER MARRIAGE DOES NOT CHANGE ANYTHING. ALL I KNOW SHE IS STILL MY WIFE.

That's why their family people still have legality over them and can recall them at anytime to their father's house because they still bear their father's name instead of their husband's name.
This thing you typed here is trash.
The man is no more owing the woman's family, so why on earth would they recall their daughter?

It is because most of the men they are married to are average or poor men.

I haven't seen a woman married to an influential family complaining about the stress of change of name.

Amongst the influential...
There's no complaint because the boss ladies amongst such wives hardly change their names..

As most of these wives get married when young and have little to their names - - so fair game to change...

But imagine 25 years of work, known globally by that name...

Name change ko game change ni

Used to like the idea but right now, I can't be bothered. Asides the stress you go through, a change of name would not change anything. People would still address you as Mrs (your husband's name) whether you do a newspaper publication or not (not like anyone is going to read it anyway). The fact is that a change of name would make zero impact outside few paper works.

The main and critical documents such as your wife's certificates/documents from birth, even your marriage certificate, would reflect her dad's name. So what's the point? Bank? grin

However, for aesthetic purposes (e.g. to share same name with the children), a family may decide to consider a change of name.
