You can do it if you believe , I will build my own Soon, if you can wait I will share. There is one farmer youtube channel that I use to watch (Dextoworld) , he build a semi-authomatic with a thermostat that control the heat , and he place thermometer to measure the heat just as we do in brooding room.

Someone on this thread as shared a success story of carton incubator he build , I think that is what inspired me to do more research about incubator. If you search video of incubator on YouTube you will find one simple one you will able to do yourself.

I will also share my story soon , and am sure is going to be a success story too

They do that at first, But will eventually start gathering it at same spot. Just keep reducing it, till it's around 10, Because, even if you left it, she can't hatch all of the eggs
she's still laying, surprised though never knew noiler can lay for more than one month unlike local hen that can't exceed 17 eggs. I'll start leaving d egg now to see if she would go broody. Please what's d duration of egg laying? Do u think she might stop laying anytime soon, because she started laying Oct 5?

Noilers lay eggs almost throughout D year after reaching maturity. I really can't tell the duration, it's just that ones they find location to gather the eggs, I just let accumulate till like 6-10. Then any top up after that goes to my pot. Eventually, they end up getting broody, then I back off, after hatching I pack D chicks and grow them separately due to predators( Cats, plenty of them)

Good day Agriculturists!!

I am running a research and also building an an incubator that would solve most problems related to the common incubators we have today.

Please I would love your encouragement by simply answering this questions. It would go a long way on my research and design implementation.

Questions
1. For incubator users. What are the challenges you face when you use your incubator?
What features and suggestions would you love to be added to an Incubator machine to solve your challenges?

2. For aspiring users. Why haven't you gotten an incubator? What are your challenges? Please reasons.

in summary.. if you use, what are the challenges you face? If you need an incubator but don't have what is stopping you? What are your challenges?

Thank you very much. Need responses ASAP. God bless

1. Power source as one cannot depend on our power supply. so we need something that is Fuel/Diesel or Kero powered, Solar powered or Battery powered.
2. Automatic egg turning. Turning d eggs in the incubator 2 ro 3 times a day is stressfull. We need something dt will auto rurn d eggs.
3. We also need it ro b cost effective

Good morning everyone And Happy weekend

I want to share with us the dual purpose incubator am constructing . Am done with the building, so remain the electrical part.

It's dual purpose because it will be powered with both electric power and lantern. And it's going to be semi-authomatic because we will fix thermostat to regulate the themprature , the themprature will be within 36.5-37.5 c and 98.5f so when it get beyond the system will go off and when it get Bellow it will on. I will also keep in the digital thermometer to regulate the themprature. And am going to fix fan in there to circulate the heat, am going to power the fan also with solar to it can circulate the lantern heat when there is no electricity.

The electric bolb ,fan lantern will be under the box together with bowl of water for humidity, so the heat is coming from the down and there is small hole at the top of the box to discharge the excessive heat.

The incubator is expected to be around 1200-1500 chicken egg capacity. My birds will start laying soon so am preparing this to hatch there eggs, though my chicken are not going to produce the much egg but it's part of our plan for the future.

Masha Allah, I will advise you include hatching of eggs from other birds like turkey, keet, duck, pigeon (this is money)
you can also go into rearing of broiler breeders and hatching the eggs

I see an upcoming hatchery.

you should consider building for other people

Good day everyone

@Azarina thanks for your comments, am looking forward to hatching broiler and turkey, but have not think about the market of other birds, it's a good idea so think this is an opportunity for me to explore more.

Yes ,I will not be reluctant to build for other people on request but maybe it will not be free, and I will also be available to guide anyone that is interested to build its own for free.

I had wiring part is 90% complete what remain is the thermostat to regulate the heat automatically, I do it get this in Nigeria, so I want to other on jumia , it's coming from outside Nigeria and it's going to take months before arrival , not certain but this covid-19 has affected import.

Presently, am doing the test running of the temprature and humidity to know how to make it work for us perfectly,I will post picture below, we have 3bolb as the source of heat 2 100watt and 1 60watt, so making it 260watt together. There are two fan above the lights which is extracting the heat and circulating it in the box, the fan is powered with solar and battery, it uses solar in the day and also the solar chargers the battery, so in the night in absent of sunlight it uses the battery. There is cup of water in the box for humidity

I discovered Challenges during this test run, the first is the battery do low and unable to power the fan before the day break , it do go off around 5am-6am . So am looking forward to adding one additional battery as backup, and also power the fan with both electricity and solar, so we can save the battery power when there is light, another option I thought of is using one fan in the night because the normal night temporary is cool and not like day time, so I feel one fan can work for the night to save the battery.

Will post the thermometer am using Presently, but I want to get another one that has sensor and also display that I will keep outside the box and measure the heat inside, so will not need to be opening the box always

I will keep giving update till we get it right and will update when we finally hatch our chicks from this homemade incubator, but am 100% positive because it has work for some people this way before and even presently.

If one doesn't use an incubator then it wont ve economically feasible to run a native chicken etc farm...when one have a large amount of local hens on the farm all at once then brooding gets difficult and alot of things will be happening that will affect your yield....from my own practical experience an incubator is the way forward...one just pick there eggs and incubate them for chick production.... cool

tagiri is more potent than gng
however Cockerels are chinco
those strains should be phased out
bad strain I tell you
fcr zero
immunity minus zero

Hello Bosses in the house,Its been a while here.
I'm having some issues I bought 2 local hen on december 23 and kept them with my cockerels of 6months plus till now they haven't started laying
i don't know if the problem is with the cockerel or the hen
Is it a must for the cockerel to start crowing before they can mate with the local hen

just be patient they will lay...just feed them well. Once the cockerel is 6 months they're are mature to mate .mine even started mating at 5 months

Firstly, irrespective of the cockerels present, your hens will lay eggs. Hens will always lay eggs whether there is a rooster or not. layers lay eggs whether you give them layer mash or not. Same goes for turkey hens, ducks etc. Now the question should be; Do you want fertile eggs or not? That's where the male comes in.

As for your local hens, just give it time. Let's say, 7-8months should be their ideal time. grin
