Funny enough, on my way out of the church today, I met my school mate and we went to my house together, although he didn't state categorically that he's in need, but he told me how he has been out of job for 3 months now. My question is, what could possibly be wrong with my giving in church? Is it trust issues or I consider it better to give to persons instead of the church?? Is anything wrong with my style of giving??

Bro, giving is giving. But you should make a benchmark for giving if that is the case.

Giving to people is good.. but you will have more blessings in paying your tithe and offerings

I sense lack of trust because if you trusted the leaders to be able to use the money judiciously as you do, you wouldn't have any reason to be less generous to them as you do to others.

I don't think you should be concerned though since you are helping those who are needy including some members if the church because that's actually the whole point of giving - to help the poor and needy, not the rich. That's why after giving in the Bible, the disciples distributed it to the members of the church according to their needs. Acts 4:34-35

I think what you should be more concerned about is why you've remained with a church where you so distrust the leaders?

What matters most is that you are non and generous. I pray that you would also find help when you need it.

You can also improve on the use of the word "larger"

What you give is your choice however, your giving in church is to God. Think of what God is worth and give based on that going forward.

If you are giving small money in church and you feel you should do better according to God's blessing upon yourself, pls do.
Don't see it as giving to the pastor but to God.
You are doing well in your giving to the needy, it's a privilege.
It's between you and God. Your conviction but I believe you have been in church long enough to know how much you should give to God as offering.
Give according to the blessings of God upon your life.

Giving to others is awesome but it shouldn't take the place of giving in church.
Church need money to do several things including spreading the gospel and doing charity and by giving to church, you're indirectly involved in those activities.
Yours is to give, what they do with it is between them and God but you've done your part.

You are doing well OP, next Sunday try and give one tenth of that 40naira, all these gods of men think it's mandatory, that's why they have deviced so many ruthless format of devouring the purse of their members by collecting offering up to 6times for every service, you will give for those that were blessed last week, you will give for those that will be blessed this week, you will give for those that received miracle Last week, and also give for those that will receive this week..you will give for Papa's upkeep, you will give for church growth, you will give for payment of church workers, you will give for no reason.....at the end of service, you will also pay for special prayers and blessings..they will advice you to send to the account number flashing on the screen or meet ushers holding POS and make your deposit.... Church is the new oil in Africa especially Nigeria....But a wise person will know that with 100naira change you can cover all these looting formats by the gods of men...if only God will make a public announcement that He is no longer interested in our monetary offering but only our heart and soul, let's see the difference between gods of men and men of God, so many of them will go back to their trading businesses, civil service jobs and other petty jobs..

You already answered your own questions... You definitely have trust issues which have affected even your subconscious.

Well, you aren't necessarily doing wrong, but what is worth doing is worth doing well. If you must put money into the offering box, be decent enough to put something meaningful or don't bother at all.

If you feel the offerings are being embezzled or mismanaged, then change your place of worship instead continuing this sort of childishness.

I think you have to strike the balance, giving to people is very good and God wants that and blesses for that, but there is a clear distinction between giving to people and giving to the house of God, how the church uses the money shouldn’t be your major reason for not wanting to give in the church, remember you are giving to God and not man, so it’s not smartness or wisdom with the way you are going.learn to strike the balance because it’s replete in scripture about giving in the house of God God and the needy

You go to church. This means you are not an atheist, and you at least believe that there is God.

Now you live in a world where you are alive, you breathe free air, SARS or other form of security operatives have never extorted you or had you framed for something grievous and all you can use to tell God thank you every Sunday is N40. Something you cannot even give to an olosho or a beggar.

If you give to church, your pastor will use it to buy jets, build house, go on holiday.

Your church may use it to build school that common member may not be able to afford.

It's just your background, that mentality has remained with you since you were small, you were always given small money to give as offering and you grew with it. It happens to so many people. Not just you

I will advice you to pay your tithes, it is mandatory and in the bible for you to pay your tithes(Malachi 3:7-12). Dont see it that you are giving money to pastor, see it as your kingdom responsibility to give to God, if we all give #40, do you think there will be money to build any church or make it comfortable, or do you think there will be sound system in the church, or the church will be able to use generator for the Sunday service, or the church will be able to do lots of servicing of equipments in the church. Stop using human wisdom when it comes to the things of God. I was once broke without having any money, someone gave me 3k, God said I should give 2k to the church, 1k for church project, 1k for tithe, I paid my tithe and church project money, same week, I got money bigger than the 3k.

God is not stupid and you shouldn't cheat God or rob him, he said we should pay tithe for a reason.
