I would say what is realistic... tell people how the way look like and don't sweetcoat it. Japa na survival... more than 50% International students don't have funding. How many foreign students fit pay the tuition with 20 hours of $10 on campus jobs? Hence, most international students resolved to work their ass out. This way na hustling things and nothing is sure.

Where is the sweet coat? I’m asking question. What skill set are you suggesting when you are not allowed to work outside campus? Going against the law that you signed at the embassy isn’t sweetcoat?

My fav forum, and I’m back after 4 months in Uncle Sam’s land, I bid everyone preparing for interview good luck and also Gods speed to those processing their admission, one topic we fail to discuss and I’ve barely seen on here is survival in the United States, this issue concerns those without a GA, I’d advise you get a survival skills, you’d need it I swear. You’d also need all the money you could come with, Let this thought resonant at a lower frequency in your mind as you go about processing your travels, I wish everyone the best.

Working outside the university is not permitted. Uber needs your SSN and it’s also frowned at. So what skills you talking about?

Good morning bro, please I need help on a research topic that has to do with information retrieval of text documents.I need someone with library and information science or a computer science programming expert either deep learning,Text retrieval congress (TREC) or extension mark up language (XML) the course has to do with digital libraries.Anyone with experience can pm me thanks

Can you possibly drop your related questions here and we can provide answers here. There are a lot of accomplishments in that area. A friend worked on a model that can Parse pdf file (sales receipts) and organize the information in an excel table. The beauty of deep learning is that, you can always find its application in every domain. Be it Engineering, Economics, Medicine and even Farming.

Hi bro, thanks I am well. My ban journey started when I was trying to scrape a nasty website with rate limiting and I needed the data urgently, so I used Tor and PySOCKS to hide my IP and switch to a new Identity whenever I am rate limited. But unknowingly to me Colab was seeing the usage of Tor as crypto mining and shady dealings, so I got blocked for a while and I was getting shadowbanned on google cloud (gcp) and sometimes my VM will be killed while running some script. I later sent a mail to them and after some back and forth with one of their guys I showed him a part of their privacy terms that made them lift their ban.

Great news about the rig, although as you said the Alienware will be more cost-effective and if not because of GPU shortage building yourself could be even more cheaper. Planning to get two 3080 rtx after this scarcity later. I pay for the colab pro also but I don't really feel it because most of the time they only provide p100 and v100 only shows up like three to four times a week. (v100 is like four times faster than p100 for CNN that I am training).

I am currently working on a GAN and it's almost done, just fine-tuning on a few things. (The attached pics is one of its output although I will still create a post properly). VR on an embedded device is actually interesting and challenging to think about it. The tiny ram, storage and micro-managed code cheesy cheesy Share with us when you are done please.

This is really Beautiful. GAN is very interesting. I also want to use GAN to write music instrumentals. Feed in your lyrics and let the computer give you a good Beat. I fell in love with Signal processing and NLP. For embedded system, tensorflow has LITE version and LiTE micro which transforms your model into a C++ freeze model. However, your model cannot be too deep with millions of parameters.

Hi, it’s been a long time I hope you have been good. How do you mean you were banned by Google. Is it the Google colab or the cloud platform. I just got my Lamba Stack Desktop for 4500$ with dual 2080Ti (my Bleep up) I could have just got an Alienware with 3090 24GB for around the same price. But it’s been saving me a lot of time in training. And I’m also paying $10 monthly for Google collab, it provides me with a Tesla GPU with 16Gb.

What have you been up to lately boss? I have been working on some TinyML model. Voice recognition on embedded device. Hoping to read about your recent project soon

After this discussion with Walspring, I made a payment of N64k for the GRE which is more than the official price of $226 (>= N86k). Although it took a little less than a week to confirm the order due to no fault of his. He kept me updating about everything till the order was confirmed. This is me saying thank you to Walspring and the other anonymous benevolent people that made the GRE affordable. Baba God go dey continue dey bless una oh. Una pocket no go dry.

Bro, it's great that you are helping prospective students, but don't you think this is the wrong place to be posting all these? Perhaps you can just attach a small link without using pages. Moreover, those who are really serious will find a way to get this information. This space is mainly for visa stuff, if I'm not mistaken.

I don’t understand. Are you saying that post is not related to the Thread or what? So what else should people post if not admission opportunities

It’s called “General” USA “Student” visa. Pack your things if you are not comfortable with admissions related post. Many including me got informations
from WES, GRE to admissions and Visa from this thread. If this thread doesn’t exist, I wouldn’t make it to USA. So please just pack your things, unfollow the thread if you are not comfortable with those posts

Lol I casually scheme through my post and I still can’t find where I lay emphasis on “balling-out”! My post is a mixture of ranting and advice to those who care to listen. I’m pretty much equipped and taught with sophisticated academic standards that I ever had compared to naija. As regards my stipends, it doesn’t cover the rent, hence leaves me with personal financial burden!

However, this is an adventure with a seemingly rough start which I believe, shall end in praise.

That rant about the standard of living and generally adapting to a new environment is actually some struggles that every successful person in life should go through. It helps to reshape you into someone that can manage success and appreciate the smallest gift of living a better life. Imagine you were paying tuition(out of state), that will even be more complicated but eventually, we will scape through and look back to those days.
If your 20hours are not occupied in a week, you may consider doing some jobs to compensate your stipend. Rent is very important and a a constant flow of that amount should be guaranteed every month.

Got my U.S F1 (Masters) visa couple of months ago. That was my first time application and I was somewhat indifferent about the possible outcome. Regardless, it came handy and here I am paying some damn bills and not earning shit! Studying 17hrs a day just to catch up with deadlines- funding with stipends is almost nothing, cause you pay certain fees and house rent (sometimes out of your pocket) and at the end of the day, you have nothing.

Probably a rough start to career pathway but never come here without a solid financial background to keep you afloat. Many students are out of status and looking for who to marry! Regardless, here isn’t really EASY!

I sometimes question my presence here, not just because I hate the weather, but the bills you pay and the study workload gives you no breathing space but to deliver. I’m not whining. Come here only if you have a solid plan or live like a fugitive.

Not discouraging you, just a heads up that probably have been exhaustively addressed overtime.

Goodluck.

You have only been here for a couple of months and you want to start balling like lionlee or MackyNaija? Don’t be deluded, they were even in more mess than you are when they came in. The start is not always rosy. Face book squarely since that’s what you are here for. The monthly payment is called stipend because they know that it’s not salary and most times not a living wage but it’s enough to take you through your program if you are not planning to send money to someone back home. You could as well list out what you have seen differently from Nigeria in terms of educational provisions, and opportunities beyond your program.
In the end, we look forward to a greater future.

Don't conclude cause what God cannot do does not exist, the oil on everybody's head is kukuma different . I have studied in Nigeria at a top music school through scholarship and it's God that gave me. I have also read posts on this tread of people especially one where the guy was testifying how an unusual email popped up offering him fully funded scholarship in USA and it was all glory to God. I believe we all are here to share helpful information on US schools, opportunities and student visa processing. Should anyone know of schools with opportunities I described earlier, kindly share. Thanks. P.S I am doing my due diligence in using search engines to find info.

You sound deluded and I hope you learn quickly that God will only certify what you have put in your own hard work... Unusual email doesn’t pop up anywhere if you don’t qualify for Scholarships. This is not Nigeria where they grant scholarships or positions to the most undeserving people. You have to do your own part before you call on God...

Lastly, you need to do more research since your prospective course of study is unusual amongst international Students. No one can recommend a good school for you because many don’t even know about studying this course in the USA. Do not leave the research for God, hit the internet, research more about it. Btw, I am currently a graduate student at MTSU and I asked a colleague about music department. It is very difficult to find a single international student in that department. The best way to go is to send an email to the department and you may apply through audition. see link below: https://www.mtsu.edu/music/musicadmissions.php

There are a couple of things in the US that are very deceiving,
1-Credit cards
2-Taxes
3-Education/Student Loans

With the above 3 points, it is literally impossible to make that kind of savings except
1. You do not use Credit cards
2. You own your own business and do not get regular salary taxes
3. You did not school in the US

However, on the brighter side. What do you need savings for? What exactly does savings do for you if I can do anything I aspire for in life without savings?

Bro that guy is correct , its you that dont know what you are saying.

If you make $600K per yr - Which is more than USA president salary. ( only 0.00001% make this amount)

you will be paying more than 50% tax
-Federal income tax
-Social Security Tax
-Medicare Tax
-State tax ( if you live in a state that collect state)

If you are doing businees on the side and you make big money above 400000 -you willpay additional 20% tax.

If you make 21m every year in naija after tax ( in profit ) after paying your bills and you want to throw that a way and move to usa then u are jonesing.

Earing 21mN as salary is different from saving 21m every

Go back again and read. He claimed you will pay 50% on 150k salary. If you are paying 50% on 150k, then you should be paying 80% on 600k salary.

I won’t be talking much except ofcourse you can share your experience living in the US. 21million naira is just around $45k

Modified: If you are doing side business, you only pay tax on your net income after deducting expenses. You only pay tax if your side business takes you up to the next tax bracket. You don’t have to pay extra

I am interested in applying for MTSU as one of the schools I am applying for undergraduate studies. I would like to know if there is application fee waiver and also full scholarship. Please can someone kindly assist me with info of USA schools that offer fully funded scholarships on Fall admission. For creative courses particularly in videography, animation and Music(pop music). I believe God for full sponsorship to the US, and i will testify on this NL tread. Thanks in advance for replies.

God doesn’t give sponsorship nor scholarships. If you apply to schools that doesn’t have scholarships, you won’t get one. So do your research well since your prospective degree is uncommon amongst Nigerians coming to the US

I am not arguing about rent being different in different states and cities, the thing is,if you are a Nigerian and you are hoping to secure a stable job in U.S,you have to move to place like Dallas, Huston, Saint Thomas, or the sate of California, all of which have an expensive rental and homeless problem. So since you are saying rent are less than 1k per month, please point out a city in U.S were rent is less than 1k in an area that is not a project.

You are making a lot of blunders. You don’t have to move to those cities to make a decent amount of money. There a lot of remote workers software developers to be precised who live decently on a 6figure salary. However, working in parlo alto or Houston will compensate for your rent and eventually you make more money than working in the Bane of CO

Depends what you do in America. If you work for somebody or company, I don't care if you are a doctor, engineer or lawyer, or mere warehouse worker, your income will be limited by tax even if you live frugally because you have no control of your taxes and you will shed almost 50% in taxes if you make more across taxes (federal, state, property and estate). Lets say you make $150k, government collect almost $75k in taxes across. You are left with $75k, after your house, car, emergency and personal expenses, you re left with $10-20k in the bank every yr. You can live a comfortable life but you will never be wealthy!

Now, if you own your own business, not mom and pop kiosk, I mean real business over $500k in revenue, you will have more control of your taxes. Once you understand how America works, which most Nigerians or black immigrants never understand anyways...just living the American dream blindly( big house and nice cars) and fatally in debt, you will know that America rewards business owners and entrepreneurs. Most Asian immigrants understand this which is why they own their own business and don't work for people!

Any Nigerian you know that is very very wealthy in America, has his/her own big business. These are not small boys and girls, they have over 5 employees (that's over $200k/90million in payroll a year assuming $45k each employee a yr), business location cost $500k-$5million. They rarely pay taxes because their business give them that advantage. Go and read why and how the rich in America pay zero to no taxes...actually government doesn't want you to if you create job, invest or an entrepreneur!

The poster said your personal experience not some Garbage and Rubbish. You don’t pay 50% tax on 150k Annual salary. And you get some tangible amount back at the end of the year as tax returns

Does funding have to be from the school. If the school decides not to give one funding , and u have sponsors who can help . Does that mean less chance of getting your visa ?

Make sure you don’t pay a dime for PhD in America. Visa for self-funding PhD students is very rare. Btw, you want to spend 45k per year for 5years in a PHD that you will be committing your whole time? It’s not worth it. Please just wait on the funding, you will get funded.
