This is a faceless forum. There are people who masquerade as legit students on this portal and will steal your identity without thinking twice.

You don't send your " credentials" to a total stranger just cos he is dishing out sweet fake stories. He is not an evaluator, WES or the embassy.

When you get bit in the ass don't come back crying

I noticed you have been seeking his attention for a long time. Your Monicker is one of the many username that comes here once in a blue moon and the only thing they do is to attack people who is commonly known for helping on this thread, i can remember you way back since 2017. For your information, i am one of the many people that have had an encounter with Fairheart. Years ago, when i was denied twice at the embassy, i was in his inbox where he did not only uplifted my spirit but also gave one of the best advice towards achieving my travel plans. I followed his suggestions and it happened just the third time as he predicted. He never claimed to have superior knowledge and never claimed to be a consulate, he's always just helping in his own capacity and based on his experience. If we do not listen to people that are known for helping, is it some habaneros from nowhere, who are only known for attacking and never made any positive contributions on the thread we should listen to?? what do you gain by pushing these people away

alot of people here did BSc for undergraduate so that might be why you've not been answered. A lot of people have gone through this process in previous threads so you can try to search. You'd see a lot of references. From what I know, not all schools accepts HND and you would need WES evaluation.

You'd need to do a lot of searching, mostly on Nairaland, because I believe this is the best website to get answers to your situation.

You are very correct.

@Cassidyice, your first step to being admitted is to evaluate your transcript with WES. When that is done, you have no more headache to worry about. You are as the same as the Nigerian BSC only that you have to look for schools that accept WES which are the majority

The truth that people dont want to hear will be what they will come back to settle for... Thanks to Sheke01. No one is blaming Europe for temporarily banning Nigerians from travelling to Europe. Unfortunately, America has given a red danger(Travel not) alert about Nigeria due to the rising cases of Corona virus. They actually dont believe the Numbers coming from Nigeria

I don't just know why Nigerians dont really set their priority right. America herself is still trying hard to contain the virus damage and here in Nigeria youth are only concern about achieving their selfish interest. If the airspace is open, and and people clamoring of travelling leave the country what about the hundreds of thier family member left behind in the country. Everyone should know that the virus is still very much around even if you are not too aware of that because of the peculiarity of Africa nations of lack of statistics taking. DONALD TRUMP just understood the effect of the virus yesterday and he has now made a u-turn of him down playing the virus. Please let all be patriotic and be considerate for once. Consider that funding, scholarships only existed when there is life. America no dey run away!!!

Kindly advice.... Is it possible to trade on either Robinhood or Webull if you don't live in US but you have SS number.

Also can you make payments and withdrawals to and from the Robinhood or Webull app without having a US bank account.

CC:OakPearl, Skymore1004, All

You need a US bank account and SSN

In addition to this, just to say that robin-hood is only available for US permanent residents or citizens.
Same as Webull. You need social security etc.

Outside US, has very few efficient trading apps like robinhood.

I'm an international student and I use Robinhood... all you need really is a SSN

interesting question, well firstly, I had to pray to God for guidance because its all by his grace I find myself in this position.
I had wanted to go to Hong Kong no matter what because the PhD topic was more related to my masters thesis which was on Glass science plus Hong Kong Universities are all in Top100 in the world including were I was admitted, let just say if there was no covid-19, I would have been in Hong Kong by now definitely.
During the lock down, I use the opportunity to also apply for a PhD at University of Hawai'i in US to work on bulk material of colloid particles, this still fall under my research work but more of biophysics, I got admitted after two Skype interview and I believe my recommendation letter from my two professor in France played a bigger role, I was told, I was selected based on my molecular dynamics simulation skills(trust me I learnt everything in france, Nigeria na scam), but there is one problem, covid 19, so I can only resume in US for spring next year plus I will be fully funded by American Chemical Society, but after going through the journal given to me to prepare myself for spring, baba I got more confused.
For France, La France, i got a PhD with ENS Lyon which is equivalent to getting a PhD with MIT in US, the PhD will be undertaken at Ecole Mines though but one special interest here is the topic, very interesting and fully sponsored by EDF, I will be working on nuclear reactor microstructure material like the 316L steel screw, this is a first hand industrial experience with EDF, everyone wants to work with EDF for sure.
I believe i will go to US someday for postdoc probably, but I won't kill myself for a US PhD because I am not desperate. When the time comes, we will move trust the process baba

Ranking of schools is one big thing for me and you checked that list. If it's not ivy League, it wont be compared to what you have. I think you made the right decision. You can do your PostDoc in the US(very easy route). I wish you all the best as a scholar.

I hope i get to meet you someday. Enjoy paris baba.... na man you be.

Congratulations... on the other hand, Can you please tell me why you prefer the PhD in france to Hongkong and the USA.

Dear VO,

I recently got an admission to a school in the USA. I have been in Nigeria due to the Covid-19 situation. My school is to resume this fall which I have already selected the virtual class option. I was awarded a Teaching Assistantship (TA) role and was assigned a Supervising Professor (SP) with a monthly stipend starting from August. I got in contact with the Associate Dean concerning my work by August virtually which was okay by my SP as he was also planning to have his classes virtually this fall and we will be assisting him remotely too. My Dean got in contact with the Director of the International Student office and they got to me by email stating that I cannot resume work since I am not in the USA. They also stated that since I do not have my SSN yet, there is no way I can be on-boarded as a TA since I am a new student. That a new student can only get an SSN if they are in the USA. Also that I do not have what is required to get my I-9 process.
The contract I signed with school stated I resume work as a TA this fall. My stipends are going to be held until I resume work which my Dean is now proposing by Spring semester. I contacted a friend who informed me I can get my social security number while I am still in Nigeria. That once that is sorted I should contact the Dean again and inform him how passionate I am about resuming work this fall. Since my assigned class for the fall is going to be an online/remote instruction.
Please, is it possible I can get my SSN while I am still in Nigeria as a new student? I checked out their website but I saw a lot of confusing options. But my friend was certain I can get it if I contact them. How do I go about this?
Thank you VO
I'm certain your friend is trying to defraud you if hes studying in the USA. But if hes not, then he doesnt have correct information about the SSN. One of the requirements of the SSN is to be a lawful resident which a student visa doesnt automatically qualify you for, but an address, a job and an employer in the US. You must be able to show that you reside in the USA. Your Visa, i-94(arrival date into the USA) and your address are not just necessary but compulsory in order to apply for SSN. If you can, please defer your admissions until the spring semester. Talk to your advisor, fall semester is here, hes likely not going to have a GA for Fall semester, you can vulunteer to work with him on research( payment later) if possible. You may also do some research with him/her as a volunteer(at your time) for free

Hmmm...a N15m house in Nigeria will most likely be in a highbrow area. Property of same spec will cost over $5k/m in the US!

All these conversion, addition & subtraction still those living & doing business in Nigeria constitute the bulk of the richest.

At $600 (Texas?) with those amenities, you're nowhere near any major city.

*Will most likely be* is not from experience but just assumptions. I have no answers to that. the same highbrow areas are not comparable to the average brow areas in the least states like ohio. You wont want to compare atlanta to Ikoyi except with maybe the traffic.

Look at this liar, now you have reduced the figures to 1.5 million and 2 to 5 million instead of 15 and 7 million. A $1500 per month apartment in any major American city is at best a tiny two bedroom not equivalent to what #15 per annum will get you in Nigeria, you are a Johnny just come trying to impress gullible youths on NL.

2m in lekki, lekki is not comparable to where I live in but Ikoyi. I dont live in a self contained but a one bed house which will cost a whole lot more in Ikoyi... You need to start looking for houses in Ikoyi to understand what I'm saying... i pay about 35dollar monthly as electricity. My apartment comes with unlimited wifi, and water is paid for by the apartment. Please understand me.

$600 monthly means you living in the worst apartment and possibly a run down city. I used to live in Chicago, now live in Virginia Beach and the decent apartment is $900 for decent one bedroom apartment. Apartment that cost $600 with gym and pool is out of this world. What city do you live in? It's either you ain't telling the truth or you are sharing an apartment which means it's $1200 for 2 bedroom.

Lol... I live in Tennessee and out of the Capital. I pay 600 monthly for a one bed apartment. This is not a house or a condo but an apartment. If you think this is just too small to be true then I can show you a 3 bed house that cost 750 monthly in Franklin state of tennessee.

If an apartment cost 900 in chicago. Check same house in Washington county in the same state of Illinois.

With $600 a month you are renting one small room in a house and a $1500 apartment in any major American city is at most a two bedroom apartment. #15 million a year house in Nigeria will be a mansion even in Lagos so there is no comparison. There is no one bedroom that cost #7 million in Nigeria, you people are full of lies deceiving gullible teenagers.

Lol. You must be used to the low eyebrow areas. I live in a one bed house with sitting room, kitchen and my private big Bathroom. Before I left Nigeria, I work on the island and earn a merger of 300k naira. I live at ojodu Berger and I decided to rent a house on the island instead. It cost a whole lot more than you can think of. A self contained house was close to 1.5million per year(in the most ridiculous places on the island. In Ikoyi, you can only find a service apartment which cost between 150k to 250k per month(yes per month) . A one bed house cost up to 2million in lekki and 5million in ikoyi. I have not mentioned banana island yet.

These are areas that can be compared to where I currently live. If you have not lived every of this world, you wont know anything about it.

So a 1500 dollar house monthly will cost over 15million naira in Nigeria. 1500 not my 600dollar ooo.

The 7million was including cost of having 24 hours Light, security, unlimited wifi, trash and electricity.

Dont mind the ignorant people like him.
If you work, live and earn $5K in the US, you will pay your Rent in Dollars (maybe like $1500), you will buy food and dress in the US in Dollars, you will pay insurance in Dollars, phone, internet, electricity in Dollars. At the end of the day, you will spend about $3,500 in a month of costs.

All those things, in Nigeria, do not cost more than #200K, so #450K will just do you good, with a lot of change left over

That's not true. A house of 1500 dollars in a Month will cost you over 15million naira per year in Nigeria. Please compare what's comparable not foolish things.

I am in the US and all I pay in month is about 600dollars including unlimited Wifi, trash and electricity. This same one bed house will cost over 7million per annum in Nigeria. If you add cost of petrol, security and data monthly. It will be up to 8million. Note also, I use over 70gb on my phone and close to 150gb data on my laptop every month on my laptop. I have access to the Gym, pool, drives my car on a good road. I do not also have to pay for Cooking gas

A professor left here for Canada couple of years ago only to end up driving forklift for a living despite the number of publications. So far you're not trained in their educational system or have any similar working experience in the same, you're only entitled to menial and non-professional jobs. I'm exclusively speaking for Canada.

That's not the same in the field of programming bro... You experience matters in the field of Engineering and programming... take that or leave it.

People get employed directly from India, china, Nigeria and other countries without even education.. Your experience matters alot especially due to the fact that hes worked with Banks to the extent of earning 120k dollars from Projects.

Again, in Engineering and IT, experience matters alot.

If I were in Europe or US, I would easily secure $20,000 loan and start agricultural business. The possibility of making $200,000 profit with the loan in ten years is high which is equal to N8 million naira.

Here in Nigeria, it's extremely difficult for youth with no standing to secure good loan to start a business. Instead, they will be telling you to start with $300 loan which is nothing.

Nigeria is jst killing our dreams. Those that have made the millions are not safe without support when the bad days approach. I am presently seeking loan from foreigners.

God will do it. Not everybody can start with $300

Who is this again? 20k dollars for agric business in the US? You think it's like the Agric they do in Nigeria or what
20k will not be enough to start a Business especially one that needs landmass and some license. And again, it's not easy to get a loan. You need a good credit score that doesnt come easily. However, you can start that business with 0$. All you have to do is write a very good proposal and you will be able to submit it in some places
