Oversabi. How’s this related to what I said?

The guy said he used WES unofficial calculator and had 3.6. I told him to evaluate his transcript and that the official evaluation will increase.

I never said his gpa will increase or decrease. Generally , whatever you get from the calculator increases after official evaluation.

Your last part is not correct. That it increased for you does not make it general. Again, your notions are not true

What isn’t true? Who said the evaluation isn’t course by course? Have you gone through the process?

The notion that your score goes up with WES is not true. Evaluation is course by course. It completely depends on your grades when evaluated. While it may have increased your GPA, it did reduced others GPA.

Dear sir, you should totally get your degree evaluated by WES. Most internal evaluation done by US universities are not favorable to international students. I honestly don’t know the criteria they use.

Besides, the actual evaluation increases your cgpa. That 3.6 Unofficial gpa will increase to either a 3.7 or 3.8

This is not True. Evaluation is course by course.

Today I got a shocker from URI graduate school that my Msc does not meet the minimum graduate requirement of a 3.0. Hence, they will be overriding my supervisor and sending me a PhD rejection letter. After some back and forth, the graduate school's decision stands.

It is laughable because I am applying with a French grade of 14.3/20.
In all universities in Canada and the USA where international grade equivalencies is visible on their websites, a 14/20 grade is at least an A- or a 3.7. Even for WES and Scholaro, it is a perfect 4.0. I understand it is done course by course, but there is no way it will be less than a 3.0.

https://www.scholaro.com/grade-conversion/

My advice: once a school say credential evaluation is recommended. Please do it before applying. Only God knows what parameters was used for their own conversion. Maybe they don't understand French grades and just used a percentage or something because it is just funny to me.

It is the only school I applied to because I was sure of getting in after discussing with the supervisor.

Anyone with advice on schools for MSc Food Science for Spring intake that doesn't require GRE or IELTS? I don't think I'll apply for PhD again after being told to expect spending 6 years.

Perfect 4.0 is not possible on WES. Your grades were not that good as you have painted it. In-house evaluation is complicated since they are not exposed to as much academic credentials so I advise you do the WES. You will get less than 3.6 on WES.

For in house evaluation, your grade will be subjected to percentage evaluation. You need at least 87% for 3.0 GPA. Your GPA is only 75%

Same here. The VO kept Rejecting People because of travel history. This is a very irrelevant reason for Visa denial. Common there is always a first time. I was rejected too with my wife and baby. Immediately in answered his first question. Every other thing I was saying he didn’t listen, he didn’t even look at my docs

You got a feedback that you were denied for Travel history? I don’t know when they start doing that. I don’t think you were denied for travel history. Share your transcript if possible

Mr Man is better you caution yourself when it comes to God, either you believe or not. God is a miracle working God, talking about your visa you got under your Pastor’s shoe, that’s a magic and yes if you want miracle sometimes you need to prepare for it, Bartimaeus (The blind) wouldn’t have received his miracle if he didn’t try to call Jesus name to notice him admist the crowd . God work miracles not magic, maybe when you have an encounter with God then you would believe. Till then please don’t say nonsense anymore ✌

Miracle worker for liars and dubious people too? Whatever you prepare for is not Miracle. In Africa we attribute miracle to what we don’t deserve….

Fighting for God is useless too. Whatever you have or you ever own, people who don’t know God have multiple of that without attributing it to God….

So you pray, you don’t pray, you can get Visa without God’s element. The only surest and the primary element is good preparation. Every other thing comes next. If you pray and fast for 10years, without attending interview, you won’t get visa. Even your pastors prepare all night to attend interviews. Some of them are still denied.

God doesn’t do Visa miracles. Its the same stupid Nigerians like this that believes God can send Visa to your church under your Pastor’s shoes…

Again, God doesn’t do Visa miracles. If it’s a miracle, you shouldn’t even apply in the first place, you should not even visit the embassy. Your miracles should bring it to your room under your bed since it’s your time for the miracles.

Quick question: you think those that got rejected didn't do the right thing?

Brother, this life is Spiritual. Before you do that thing you conceive as right, ask God for direction. While doing it, do the same, after it, exhort his name with the faith that you will receive all you have diligently invested your effort in. And even when you recieve the news (favourable or not) still thank him.

This life transcends logic (though i believe there are principles one can follow to reach the zenith. While many people do not follow through, i am certain not everyone that does reach the acme of actualization).

if life were to be easy to logically dymstify, i doubt anyone here will have a faith too. So let everyone believe in whatever they want to.

Selah.

There is nothing spiritual about life. The embassy and the approval is subjective. There is no God’s miracle here. There are people who have been there over 9 times within 9 years. They got it with persistence. So God loves you more than those people? Or the millions of people who cannot even afford to pay for GRE? You are better…

Oh it’s also God that helped people who faked Bank account, lied about their intentions and did all farcade just to get their visas and at the end attributes that to GOD?

I will never associate myself to a God who Graciously helped those that lied to get a visa and rejected those who are truthful in their application.

1. It depends on what you believe bro… We believe it is “God in Action” some people will fulfill all the visa requirements but still get refused.

2. To us it is new, as it is the first time.

2. It’s not new. It’s the standard. It’s new to you because you are new to the process

Please do if you can. Since you already have an MSc you can start another MSc (shorter study duration) or apply for a PhD (longer study duration) while studying also get some relevant IT skills

Only do a PhD if you are motivated to do it. Not because someone suggested it.

Imo, you could say, my uncle works in Bleep company and earns Bleep annually. 40% of his earnings are from his company and 60% from family's Housing Business.

Saying too much about what you were not asked doesn’t earn you a Visa.

Hello MackyNaija,

I intend going for a PhD in Computational Science & Engineering which is a degree that mainly applies IT knowledge in solving scientific problems in a domain (e.g bioinformatics, geophysics, quant. finance, etc).

I'm trying to break out from my field to core tech, but the closest field in IT for me is Data Science. After making a research on Bliπd I discovered that even Machine Learning Engineers earn far less than Software Engineers and other big boys in core tech. What's your advice regarding this path in Computational Science?

@Predstan I believe you're also majoring in Machine Learning. Is there a particular niche that you're interested in?

It’s not true that Machine Learning Engineer earn less. They earn more with experience and move faster in the progression ladder but many are recruited as a software Engineer.

My research interests has changed over time towards computational Imaging, Computer Vision, VR/AR. Facebook is recruiting actively in this field as they are setting up a new lab. I guess they have seen the future here.

With computational science, your qualifier exams will be coming from Parrallel processes concept and partial differential equation. With Computer science, your coursework and qualifier will be concentrated on Operating system, Theory of Algorithms and Computer architecture.

Your research group and dissertation are what matters and you will publishing papers in the same conference and journal as someone who is in a CS program.

But truth be told, you don’t do a PhD for the money especially if you are already a working professional. You can literally do some cloud computing courses, or cyber security and start making it big

Depends on the angle from which you look at it.

Na for Blind I take learn say "employers will pay you what you choose to accept", if you no gree collect $95k, they'll up it!
Got the morale to bill HR during my current employers offer stage. smiley as I see say employers hold bar.

I learned from there that there is money to be made in America... the salaries there are Maddd.

I don taste $mall blood, going for the kill n€xt. wink

Make I first settle, get a permanent base, complete the process for citizenship, see if I need an MBA, then aim for $180k minimum...
It's very very possible in hardware manufacturing, no be only software space deh pay $200k+ total comp.

I swear, that space is just too exciting. That’s what is pushing me to complete this PhD in computer science. 9-5 job in America could be blood money too. I literally read a google employee whose TC was $2M.

These guys who work for Hedge Funds as Quant Analyst are banging some big money too.

If nothing else is coming through,
Graduating students should try their luck with Amazon Area Manager positions, they hire alot for this at Level 4 for about $55k base.
Strictly entry level even with a Masters degree (I hate abbreviations) undecided
E be like say na "hard work" as people don't last a year so there's constant hiring.

An MBA will fetch you level 5,
Level 6 if you join their 'leadership deve program' with your MBA,
with previous experiences as a Manager, you fit hustle level 6 for about $130k.

They Also have 'Safety Specialist' positions, easier to get.
They accept OPT work permit for both instances I believe.

The Area Manager positions can translate to something better in supply chain down the road.
Reddit has a lot of posts about this position.

You can also switch positions within the company after a year.
Join Blind and Reddit and read read read. Na knowledge gaining.
Leave Instagr4m, Facebo0k and t1ktok. Na time wasting.

Boss Blind is quite intimidating. Na 500k, 300k, $1m people day post for IT and mostly filled with the FAANG conversations.
Even entry level Computer science phd day post 450k TC.

Thanks bro, yea I know mackynaija. I came across his Yankee thread as far back as June, 2018. Observing his growth illustrates a way leaving Nigeria could better your life. I also remember when predstan wrote on that thread about how he got admitted to 5 schools, but he never attended any, despite acquiring prodigy or mpower loan ( can't remember now). Turned out he was going to achieve his dream via mtsu, the following year(2019). We don old small sha. Next year is my year, I believe.

Keep believing bro. You will get it. I applied and got admitted into 10 schools before I went for MTSU. Rounding up the Masters and going to start a Phd at a Top CS school in January . Research in AI and ComputerVision….

Takes around 14 months. The easiest is to go back home and apply at the consulate.

Hello bro. I reached out to my school about this and I was told the Covid relief grant was given to permanent residents students and citizens but not international students. I was told to reach out and ask how international students qualified and received this. So please can you enlighten how international students received this in your school?

Reaching out to your school because someone else got it is not a good idea. No one knows who qualifies or not, only the school. Even some Americans didn't get it. If the school says you don't qualify, there is nothing you can do about it. Others who got it didn't do anything or submitted anything other than their bank information. In Tennessee, we got ours in early September, Texas just getting theirs in October. If its something you qualify for, you will get a return when you file your taxes. Otherwise, do not bother yourself about it.

That's an average of $1k monthly, I do NOT intend to keep that growing fatter.

Works in tech, he was an F1 student who migrated, he is a legal PR & married to a citizen.

That’s a big deal depending on how long he has been in US. If not too long, then he can’t literally sponsor you for education in the US. Another angle is that you might as well be going down there to get married.

Solution; Get some funding so that he won’t be your primary sponsor. Make sure you are not going to school in the same state that he is.

So I would like to know what happens if I change my sponsor to my mum after being denied is that another red flag? Or should I just sit this US thing out so I don’t complicate things

What does your sponsor do in the US, how did he get into the US and what is his status. These are the reasons for denial. Your sponsor being in the US does not directly leads to a visa Denial

No they don’t send a copy to email. They only send to physical address. You may have to request a copy for yourself if you need one. But an unofficial, inscripted copy will be available on your portal for your view only
