Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) operating under Sector 3 in Mongunu, on Thursday, arrested a suspected terrorist courier at the entrance to Gubio local government area in Borno State while conveying materials suspected for making Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
The troops in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), arrested the terrorists’ courier in a significant counter-terrorism operation.
A statement by the Chief Military Information Officer HQ MNJTF N’djamena, Chad, Lt-Col Olaniyi Osoba said the suspect identified as Murktar Alhaji Chari (28), confessed to transporting the materials to Damasak town in Mobbar local government area for a planned attack on MNJTF troops.
He named the intercepted materials to include four empty 12kg cylinders, one empty 6kg cylinder, two carburettor gas canisters, two pressure regulators and a hose.
“Intelligence reports indicated that this material was intended for a group of terrorists planning a retaliatory attack, following recent losses, including the elimination of several members and the seizure of a significant weapons cache.
Osoba said the timely arrest of the courier and the recovery of these materials have effectively disrupted a potential terrorist attack and dealt a significant blow to the operational capabilities of the terrorist group.
He added that the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. The Force Commander MNJTF Major General Ibrahim Ali while reacting to the development, commended the troops and CJTF for their vigilance and professionalism, reiterating MNJTF’s resolve to combat terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of the region.

Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide, has refuted allegations by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, suggesting that President Bola Tinubu is advancing a “Yorubacentric” agenda in his appointments within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and the financial sector.
In a detailed analysis shared on social media, Omokri dissected the composition of key federal appointments, particularly within the NNPCL, to debunk claims of ethnic favouritism.

He noted that out of these six agencies, only two are led by individuals from the Southwest.
Omokri accused El-Rufai of engaging in “ethnic baiting” and spreading misinformation. He warned that such claims if left unchallenged, could create unnecessary tensions and destabilize market confidence.

Some border communities have refuted claims by the Nigerien Junta leader, Abdurrahman Tchani, that there was a forest called ‘Gaba’, where foreign military established their base in Sokoto state.
Our reporter who visited some of the border communities discovered that such forest didn’t exist anywhere in the state.
Leaders and some of the residents who spoke also denied presence of any foreign military base in their communities.

“There is no such forest in Araba district or Illela local government and we don’t see any foreigner in our villages, it is a tea joint discussion. Instead, it is the Nigerien military operatives that have been coming into our area every night.
“They come and work with our vigilantes in maintaining peace in our surrounding communities,” he said
The district head, however, cautioned the Nigerian leader against making baseless allegation capable of severing both countries’ historic ties.
Another resident of Araba, Malam Muhammadu Danladi, opined that the allegation was meant to smear the image of our country.
“It is a lie, there is not presence of foreigners in our community. It is just a mere allegation which is unfounded,” he said
He, however, decried what he called a targeted harassment on Nigerians by the Nigerien security operatives in the last six months.
“Their security operatives at the border areas have been harassing our people, seizing their goods for just no cause. But their people are enjoying free access into our country. They have been coming to buy goods and leave and nobody is harassing them. We want our government to do something about this,” he said
Corroborating this, Muhammad, a commercial motorcyclist who take passengers and goods to Konni, also denied noticing presence of foreigners in their communities, just as he lamented the inhuman treatment allegedly being meted on them by the Nigerien security operatives.
It was similar denial at Tabanni Siddi in Gada LGA as residents said neither Gaba forest nor foreign base was established in the community and even its environs.
