 Every year, the screening team collate all creative materials released in the year in review and screen for nomination. This tedious process goes on for at least three months before the screening team comes out with a final list. The voting categories, such as ‘Song Of The Year’, ‘Artist Of The Year’, & ‘Next-Rated’ are left strictly for fans to vote and choose the winners. We wish to say categorically that we do not tamper with the outcome of the voting process. The limit of our involvement in this voting process is to advice the nominees to engage their fans and solicit for their votes. We do not accept any responsibility for failure on the part of the nominees or their record label, when they fail to do this.
Unfortunately, most times, Voting, Year In Review and Definitions Of Each Category, are generally taken for granted by many artists. We can also attest to, and hereby state categorically that, there is no evidence that any of the artistes aggrieved and vocal about their displeasure to the turnout of the award, voted in the ‘Next-Rated’ category, as our voting process captures email addresses and phone numbers.

We have ensured that the awards happened regardless of sponsorship, and that it gets better with each passing year, without giving excuses about challenges. We may not have gotten everything 100% right, but integrity has been our watch-word. The 109 Nigerian artistes that have won can attest to the fact that they did nothing different from those that have not. Awards by nature, are and will always remain, controversial except every nominee gets one.

We try to ensure that winners are within reach before announcing their category, as the whole essence of celebrating talents will be defeated without that.

While it is not out of place for an artiste or a party to vent their disapproval, we strongly condemn all kinds of improper conduct and the use of profanity on live television. In the same manner, we condemn provocative comments. In all, we see no use or reason for a disgruntled artiste or party to destroy valuable properties put in place to give them extra comfort before they perform or come on stage. This is totally unacceptable and will be addressed.

We congratulate all nominees and winners of The Headies 2015 and wish them a more successful 2016.

GEOLOGY AND STRATIGRAPHY OF SOUTHEASTERN NIGERIA.

The Lower Benue Trough lies between southeastern Nigeria (see Fig. 1) and often delineated into three prominent structural members namely, the Abakaliki Anticlinorium in the centre, Afikpo Syncline, and the Anambra Basin to the west. The southern sedimentary basin was formed after the break-up of the South American and African plate boundaries during the Cretaceous period.

Cretaceous sedimentary infill of these rift basins are made up of three identifiable uncomformity bounded depositional successions Albian-Cenomanian, Turonian-Coniacian, and Campanian-Maastrichtian (Obi, 2000). Within the core of the Abakaliki Basin, these sequences include the Asu River Group, Eze-Aku Shale and Awgu Shale. The Post-Santonian sediments overlying Nkporo, Ajali Sandstone Mamu, Nsukka Formation, Imo Shale and Ameki Formations occur within the adjacent Afikpo Syncline and Anambra Basin.

The stratigraphic successions of the lower benue tough consist of three stages which is marked by a drift in the axis of the sedimentary basins. These stages were the Abakaliki-Benue (Aptian-Santonian), the Anambra-Benin (Campanian-Mid Eocene), and the Niger-Delta Phases (late Eocene-Pliocene) (Oboh-Ikuenobe et. al., 2005). The more than 3,000 metres of rocks which include rocks of the Asu River Group, Eze-Aku and Awgu Formation, were deposited in the Abakaliki-Benue Basin, the Benue Valley and the Calabar Flank during the first phase.

The Santonian bending and uplift of the Abakaliki region and shifting of the depocenters leading to the formation of the Anambra Basin and the Afikpo Syncline occurred in the second phase (Oboh-Ikuenobe et. al., 2005). The resulting successions comprise the Nkporo Group, Mamu Formatiom, Ajali Sandstone, Nsukka Formation, Imo Formation and Ameki Group.

The third sedimentary phase resulted in the creation of the Niger Delta Basin, which began in the Late Eocene as a result of orogeny that led to the deformation of the Abakaliki Basin tilting the depositional axis toward the south of the Anambra basin (Obi and Okogbue, 2004). The first sedimentary cycle began in the Albian-aptian and continued until the Santonian with minor break in sedimentation during the Cenomanian (see Table 1). The Aptian Ogoja Sandstone, the Albian asu River Group, the Amasiri Sandstone, the Cenomanian Odukpani Formation, the Turonian Eze-Aku Group and Coniacian Awgu Formation were deposited as first sedimentary cycle deposits (Hoque and Nwajide, 1988).

Liquid Limit

Liquid limit is the minimum amount of water which is needed to be mixed with sediments so that it can flow.

Plastic Limit

Plastic limit is the minimum amount of water needed to be mixed with a sediment so that it can retain its shape when the stress placed on it has been removed.

Plasticity Index

Plasticity index is the difference in value between the states of consistency. It is the percentage value that depicts how moldable a material can be.



Shrinkage
Shrinkage is an essential property because ceramic materials experience shrinkage at two different levels in the manufacturing sequence. During drying, the article will shrink in varying amounts depending on the compositions and percentage of water present. Drying shrinkage is the reduction in size, measured either in length or volume that takes place when the clay piece is dried to remove the pore and absorbed water. The drying shrinkage depends on the water content, the type of clay minerals present, and the number of very fine colloidal material in the clay.
The drying shrinkage is expressed in percent reduction in size after drying. In the laboratory, the measurement is made on a test bar after drying for a minimal period of 5 hours at 1050 The drying shrinkage is related to the water of plasticity. It increases as the water of plasticity and particle size increases (Murray, 2007).
Firing shrinkage is also measured in terms of linear dimensions or volume. Linear and volume shrinkage can both be measured, although linear shrinkage and water absorption generally decreases, the modulus of rupture (MOR) and fired whiteness generally increase as the particle size increases (Adkin, 2000).

Fire Clays

Fire clays are referred to as ‘seat earths’ and are mainly confined to coal-bearing strata and are commonly named after the overlying coal seam. Fire clays are typically thin (normally < 1m, although rarely > 3µm) consising of the clay minerals kaolinite and illite combined with crystalline silica and carbonaceous material, which are used to make heat-resistant fire bricks, insulating brick, refractories, monolithic and castable materials, ramming and air-gun mixes, and other heat-resistant products (British Geological Survey).

Fire clays can withstand high temperatures without disintegrating or turning pasty. Much fire clay is derived from under-clays beneath coal beds, but not all under-clays are fire clays. Fire clays form where surface conditions permit most minerals, except kaolinite and illite to be leached out. Fire clay is rich in hydrous aluminum silica (Chukwudi). Flint clays are non-plastic fireclays that are extremely hard, microcrystalline and composed predominantly of kaolin.

Bentonite

MacDonald and Burton defined bentonite as a variety of mudrock composed almost totally of montmorillonite and colloidal silica, which are the products of the alteration of vitric tuff or ash. The industrial bentonites are generally either the sodium or calcium variety. Bentonites are composed mainly of the smectite group minerals. Bentonites have excellent rheological and absorbent properties, plasticity, lubricity, bonding strength, higher sheer and compressive strength, good permeability, and low compressibility (Murray). Bentonites have a wide range of use. They can be used as drilling mud, sand binding, iron ore pelletizing materials and as pet waste absorbents. Bentonites can be used in civil engineering as sealants. Sodium or calcium bentonite is used in some brick clays where there is need to improve the plasticity.

Publication of Raw Materials Development - Many of the secondary clays which are earthenware in nature come off in white, reddish-brown and gray or black shades and mostly fired to buff or red and brown of different shades. The colour effects and the high plasticity nature of secondary clays is due to the heavy presence of metals such as iron-oxide content and different types of organic and inorganic matter associated with the clay in transit during formation. Both types of kaolin are mixed and used commercially. The physical properties of kaolin are:

White or near-white in colour.
Minimal ionic substitution within the lattice structure.
The amount of exchangeable cations is few.
Soft and non-abrasive.
Fine in particle size.
Relatively low surface area.
Low absorption capacity.
Good rheology.

The impurities in kaolin include quartz, feldspar, and some trace elements. In some cases, minor amounts of minerals with specific gravities greater than 2.85 can be found, of which a large percentage of these minerals can be removed by wet processing. Relatively pure kaolins are refractory and fire with a high modulus of rupture. The fired properties of kaolin make its use most important in ceramic production.

Ball Clays

Boormans In (2004) defined ball clay as plastic clay with a high percentage of kaolinite and relatively minor to abundant organic matter, producing high green strength and fired strength in ceramic bodies and usually fires white or off-white. Ball clays fire white to near white in colour in an oxidizing atmosphere (kiln). It also covers a wide range of plastic clays which fire from near white to yellow, red to brown depending on the amount and type of iron and titanium present . Based on mineralogy, ball clays are similar comprising of kaolinite with mainly mixed layers consisting of silica, micaceous maineral containing some illite, with minute quantities of carbon compounds, ferrous and titanium oxide. However, the provenance of three main components; particle size and shape, conditions at and after deposition, all affect the ceramic properties of ball clays.

The boron deficient features observed for the three independent lines and the positive features seen in wild lines under 0.1µMB condition in fig 1 was as a result of high mutant sensitivity to boron under boron limitation than the wild type.

Am currently serving the nation in Jigawa state, one of the core northern state, in my short stay here, i've come to discover that the north has an unquestionable human advantage compared to the south, however, I stand to be corrected, 60 to 70% of the northern population are un productive, this is quite alarming.
Over 50% are stark illiterate (Mostly women) who cant even make a single sentence in pigeon english, talk less of pure english.
Emphasis on Arabic is high, you can easily find people who understand Arabic than people who understand english.
@Op, the problem of the north isn't some thing we can wish away. It's quite deep, most at times I pity their level of understanding.. In my own opinion, Religion, their political elite are the major problem of the North.
It can be fixed, if only they are willing to. Here a man can send his children to learn Arabic instead of sending them to a normal school. Even those in my school doesn't take school work seriously...
