jauntty: It depends on the type of eye defect. If its refractive errors like myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism, then those stuffs don't have any effect. If its pathological conditions like a stye or chalazion (Eyelid swelling conditions), then eyeliners and mascara can worsen the condition. I did a research while in school I found out that prolong use of heavy make-up can predispose you to some eyelid conditions. MY ADVICE : Always wash off ur make-up before going to bed. Remember they contain chemicals.
