PRESIDENT of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, Monday, in reaction to the reported death of the Islamist sect’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, said: “I have not heard the story yet but if it is true, as a Christian, we should not rejoice over the death of any one.

“Nevertheless I must commend the security forces, which had taken this war against terrorism in this country to a new and commendable height by the accomplishment they had achieved in the last couple of months.”

According to him, the Christian community in Nigeria would have preferred that Shekau was caught alive and arraigned before a court of competence jurisdiction, where Nigerians would have the opportunity of hearing his explanation for the mindless killings of innocent Nigerians.

“That is why I say that it is heavy on me to react to the death of this fellow. I would really have been glad if he was caught alive so that he can answer so many questions bothering people’s minds.

“Once again, I commend the members of the security forces, who had ensured that the turbulence in the North-East is gradually simmering down and people can now go about their daily chores almost unhindered.”

The Plateau Police Command on Wednesday in Jos said it had arrested a 17-year-old minor who allegedly killed her husband over his sexual demands.

The minor allegedly killed Lawal Bala, 26, in his sleep on their matrimonial bed on July 8.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Chris Olakpe, said the police had also arrested some suspected criminals.

The minor, who spoke from the police custody, told newsmen that “he was sleeping with me six times in a day.

“I kept complaining to him that I could not stand his sexual urge but he refused to listen to my plea; no family member was ready to help me, so I did what I did. “

She said that she regretted killing him, but that she thought that was the only option left for her to free herself from the pains she was passing through.

According to her, I have realised my mistake and have repented of my sin; all I want is for the authorities to allow me to go home.

The suspect said she was already two months pregnant for her late husband and would want to go home to take care of herself till delivery.

Earlier, Olakpe had said that when the matter was reported, and the minor was arrested, she denied committing the offence.

“But in the cause of investigations, she later confessed to committing the crime and gave reasons, “ he said.

Olakpe, who said that the offence was a culpable homicide, added that she would soon be prosecuted at the Juvenile Court. (NAN)

President Goodluck Jonathan will today commence two-day official visit to Borno and Yobe states, the first since he became president. .He had been severally accused by the Borno Elders Forum and government of Borno State of refusing to visit the troubled states, which had witnessed persistent Boko Haram attacks. Former FCT minister, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has come under heavy attack of social media for his tweet on Sunday in his attempt to defend the former Education minister, Mrs Oby Ezekwesili and to deride Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.The ex-minister, in his tweet posted on January 27, 2013, made a sarcastic joke about Jesus and Mary Magdalene aimed at Information minister, Labaran Maku, Dr Doyin Okupe and Dr Ruben Abati.

His controversial tweet reads: "If Jesus criticizes Jonathan’s govt, Maku/Abati/Okupe will say he slept with MaryMadgalene."

Meanwhile, Christians and other Nigerians have been attacking the ex-minister describing the comments as offensive and attack on Christians.

On Sunday, one Dr Thomas Agande in his Twitter statement titled "El Rufai Defiles Jesus Christ" said, "He went overboard when, on his Twitter page, today January 27, 2013, said our Lord Jesus Christ had sex with Mary Magdalene. We see this as a very insensitive, irresponsible, and a offensive thing to say about Christ, and an attack on the sensibilities of Christians globally.El-Rufai betrayed his lack of respect for our Lord Jesus Christ and obvious hatred for Christians. How else can one explain his effrontery and buffoonery when he seemingly jokingly twitted that Christ had sex with Mary Magdalene.
