An 11 year old child has no business being a househelp, she is a developing child who needs to learn and play not be saddled with your kids. Gosh, what is wrong with us? Stop this please. Hire a professional or get a creche, stop being penny wise and pound foolish not to talk of illegal, an 11 year old can barely take care of herself. If you are afraid of your husbands fidelity with an older girl then deal with your husband not make a child your maid abeg.

You said it well, thank you!! I read some post where some people claim you can not do without a house help or maid. Well sorry to disappoint then, yes you can. We don't have gardeners, driver, gateman, housemaid, (naija style) etc in the USA. We do those jobs ourself and If you must use the services or help of any of those jobs I named, then you will pay for it bcox it's done by professionals and adults as their JOB not Kids.

You made a good point about a 15yrs old being able to help at home including caring for her younger siblings but you messed up your point comparing apple and orange. The thread or rather the point is about being a mother, raising, and caring for her own child/children not being a wife! That's a whole different topic but if you care to know, living 4 hours away from your husband is not being a wife in my own opinion but if na so they (her & her husband) want am make they carry go. And to answer your last line, the answer is YES! There are jobs and positions that are simply not for a married woman or a nursing mother raising a child under 2 and pregnant period. US vice president Joe Biden didn't run for president bcox of family reasons!! So are many prominent people out there.
Let's just face the fact guys! Women especially African women come up with this career BS when the men/husband fail to step up. Why will my wife be walking in daily when the kids are in bed already bcox of one career? Who assist my kids with their homework? Maid, washed them up? Maid, read their bedtime stories to them? Maid! Why? Bcox my wife is a career woman? Abi bcox am married to the maid? To everyone and their own oh! Thank God my wife is in the medical field and makes her own schedule cux I don't think I can deal with this career thing or living separate from my family oh! I'll rather get a second job and pay her her exact income to raise my kids if need be. Am not against a lady having or building a career but some careers are simply not for married women or nursing mothers especially if the husband is also out there struggling to bring money home too leaving the kids to be raised by house maid or nanny.

Dude leave the 2 years or more gap thing aside, that's not the problem. I have a 5 and half years old son and a 2 years old son still they're both kids. Even if one is 7yrs old and the other 2yrs old, I still can't leave them alone at home. In most cities in the US you must have a 13yrs or older person at home before you can leave the kids by themselves. As a matter of fact I wish my kids are 3 and 2 years old my life would've been easier. They would likely go to the same school, go to the same sports activities instead of me dropping off one at school then start heading to daycare which is another 15 -20 mnts drive apart! Same with sports and after school activities. So my point is even if they give 5yrs apart, a 6yrs old can not babysit, feed, or wash up a 1yr old.
@Op, my only concern is the rate at wich we focus on this so called career lately!! If you live/work 4 hours drive away from your husband who works night shift, that so called career is not that good. No offense to any career person or night worker but if you're so dedicated or passionate to what you call career and the income is not good enough to help your family stay/live together, or flexible enough for your husband to run a business and watch the kids when U're working or flexible to work when kids are in school and home with them when U're not home, sister, you and your husband need to go back to the drawing board and redraw your plan. I don't know about others but the fact that couples live apart in Nigeria (not one abroad one naija) but 4 hours away not do am for me oh! What if body begin heat up for night? Then you go lecture me about self control or come back to NL to seek advise. Anyway, like I said, and this is my own opinion ohh! Whenever family (kids) start coming, you just have to find a way to adjust. You have to make sacrifices, take pay cut, downsize in somethings. I understand that this might be hard in naija or for some career minded people bcox they just Wan dey go up up up! but people do it here in the US and many places. People go from full time job to part time bcox they're raising a family! Ppl go from salary and crazy hours to hourly pay! People go from owing a business to partnering with someone all bcox of family!! So, think about it and make ur adjustment! What's the point of not properly raising ur kids bcox of jobs then turn around to leave that same job/career to handle/deal with their wahala from bad behavior or bad influence from those that are there when mom and dad where not there!

Even when a job or company is sponsoring your job training or conference meeting in the US, be prepared to answer questions on how you can assist in those expenses if need be/arise. If your account as a working lady is empty, or your salary is poor, you'll be seen as an applicant that is fully dependent on people. There's nothing wrong with that but it always look better when the applicant or traveler is a minor (under 21 for immigration purpose). Pls bear in mind that am not trying to scare you or discourage you! Am simply preparing you for the worst but hopefully you will be interviewed by an officer that won't carry the whole procedure for head. The main purpose of this screening and ofcox asking for prof is to prevent people from being public cargo (government wahala) when they get here and decide not to go back.
Also, as much as you plan or have the mind not to break the immigration laws, your plans on how to live here already seem a law breaking plans. You're applying for a conference visa (B1/B2) but also plan to both work and go to school which requires F1 visa status.
Visa and status are complete two different thing. You can NOT get a US visa inside the US, you can only maintain a status. In your case, if issued a visa which they normally/mostly give 2 years now, you are not allowed to stay more than 6 months on every trip/visit. You only have that period to change your status and once that is done, you can not go back to whatever visa status your previous one was. In other words if denied both done die (hardly happen though). So, while here, you need a sponsor that will pay your international student fees which is usually 4 times or even more than US citizen or PR students. When admission is secured, you now use ur admission letter, i-20, sponsors affidavit including 3 years taxes and Proof of sufficient funds to sponsor your education to apply for F1 student status. Make sure your sponsor is willing to pay you Spring and Fall semester tuition (summer semester is optional).
You also plan to assist your aunt! We don't call it assistance here lol, we call it work. In this case you will be working under the table for her which is not a big deal but working outside the school or home is violation without work permit (F1 student are not eligible to get WP) except severe hardship hit their sponsor (hard to proof cux your sponsor no go quit their job Lai lai). There is no requirement to apply for a work permit. You can be jobless and apply for one Infact the purpose of work permit is to enable you get a job legally and obtain a tax ID to pay your taxes when you work.

And if they get caught and dealt with some yeye people will start screaming jungle justic!

I mentioned some family ties in my reply that you quoted. The visa officer will basically be the one to decide if you have strong ties or not. Am not saying that single people your age or that have gov. Jobs can't be issued visa but honestly, your job is no big deal to them. There are people with all kind of ties including families, businesses, and properties that left and never looked back and at the same time, there are people without any of the things I listed that also got their visa. I always tell anybody that ask me to just go with what they have, put in their best and hope for a positive outcome. Good luck!
