Divepen: mumsy thatz the way we were tot in d univ.
Yoruba will call it 'Afiwe Tara'
that is a direct comparison..if i want to compare you directly with princess diana ..i would say she is as beautiful as princess Diana but indirectly u r princess diana ...indirect comparison brings the question of how
e.g he is a lion --people as how
and i don't doubt that comparisons such as that can be made, that's not my point! The example you gave are perfectno doubt.

All am saying is that the real answer to ur question is metaphor and not simile, because a comparison without the use of 'as' or 'like' is called a metaphorical comparison...

Now using your example,

he is like/as a lion when it comes to meat = simile

he is a lion when it comes to meat = metaphor

do you get what i mean now!
Phew!

LiteratureRe: False Pretenses <1ST POSITION, ROMANCE STORY OF THE YEAR AWARD, 2013> by princesa(f): 2:14pm On Aug 31, 2013
Ohibenemma: Great update.., but while one can never replicate the mind of the author, one may be tempted to draw out certain points which may seem (not too) realistic.
Izu's final parting with Kite was one of such. The landing was too soft - the writer seemed in a hurry to be done with that part. This could have been made more realistic by indicating in the previous chapters that Izu was (no longer) VERY KEEN on Kite. This was never done. I doubt if guys give in so easily and WITH SUCH GRACE on one they REALLY LOVE. They can give up, but not so gracefully as if it's VERY NORMAL.
Secondly, the author continues painting the picture of flagrant insincerity on Kite, especially with regards to Ise, yet making Ise appear desperate, WHILE MAKING HIM APPEAR THE IDEAL MAN. Men don't combine such traits, I think. A man like Ise loves deeply, but not blindly. While they don't rush into relationships, they are conscientious to a fault. Nothing kills their passion more than signs of insincerity in their partner, NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY LOVE(D) SUCH. This is because they are highly principled and detail driven.
The sudden admission by Kenny was too SUDDEN. He wasn't actually at the end of the rope YET to start rattling so much. It made him appear too feminine.
And finally, FOR NOW, I remember reading a book by Chukwuemeka Ike on writing, where he touched on character development. This includes, amongst others, their diction. While some statements like "I'm SO done with you" with emphasis on the 'so' may not pass for conventional grammar, they could be taken as an individual's mannerisms, but when such cuts across the diction of different characters in the same work, it becomes a weakness of the author. In reality, people rarely talk alike, except in cases of one trying to imitate the other - peer factors. Some prefer the usage of 'yea' to 'yes', 'em' to 'hum' etc. This is also reflected in different writers writing differently. Eg Wole's work tend to appear more laborious than Chinua's.
Thanks...yourz zincerely.
you're so on point on the bolded...especially the dialogue part, inbetween reads, i hear Ise using diction that me thinks don't go well with how he had been painted, sometimes they come across as weak and ordinary, even flattery...this i notice is more pronounced during discourse with Kite. maybe that's because he's so in love?

Anyway, you pointed out loopholes in the story and they are true, hopefully repogirl would work on them during final editing...

And i must add, i love comments like this on a storywink

LiteratureRe: Literature Section Diary Thread by princesa(f): 8:53pm On Aug 29, 2013
me thinks its a worthy idea but there definitely are hitches:

- some writers tend to pull out their works after they've being completed, for fear of plagiarism.
- a large percent of the stories here are abandoned or sinking away into oblivion, without care or love
- its really gonna be hard catergorising the stories into genres...

So, i wish u guys the best of compilationwink
