Recently I've been talking a lot about dogs and ticks, in relation to the harmful threats they pose. The only time I have problem with ticks is when I'm bringing in a new dog into my home. When this happens, I explore some means to make sure I eliminate the ticks and make sure they don't affect other dogs in the home. How do I get rid of ticks permanently from my Dogs? Chemical Bathe Giving your dog a flea bathe would reduce the number of living ticks. This can not totally eradicate ticks as some would still be in the surroundings. Tick/Flea Spray Actually, the Tick spray should be applied 30 minutes before the bathe. You don't want to leave any residue of the spray on your dog as this might also be harmful. Particularly, spray the armpits, in-between the paws, the belly. Avoid the eyes are ears. How do I get rid of ticks in my surroundings/compound? Eliminating ticks in your surroundings is not just enough. Leftover ticks/eggs in the surroundings can still harm your pet. Be careful when you use Fumigants/pesticides. Do a chemical wash. Add some amount of chemical you have used to bathe the dog in water and wash the surroundings with it. Employ Chickens. This is my most powerful tool. Infact when I bring in a new dog, my chickens gather around the dog for ticks. They also help I'm reducing ticks in corners/surroundings. Funny but much helpful. Try these tips and you'll soon have a tick-free home. http://facebook.com/prodeegeeconsult |

nickyvil: I'm a vet doctor , your dog lovely the coats so lovely your gonna love her litter if you crossed her with a good pedigree male but I need to ask you feel questions first... When last do you have her checked up by a vet? When last do you deworm her? When last do you give her anti biotics cos I've come to a similar case at the end the dog is infected so the ear dropped immediately I treated him n gave him anti biotics it worked... Just try to notice her poo the way she played if she eats very well but some dogs are healthy n the ear will come up at the right time for them so you need to to panic but to observed. Hmmm vet |

Zocken: I'm glad you dropped some words. I wasn't expecting the dog to fight for me, but I expected it to alert me by barking when the intruders got close the house, so I can take action byalerting the police or something. Of course the dog can't secure me. What baffled me, like I said, is the fact that the dog was mute al through the encounter.
Is it possible to socialise a boerboel with a german shepherd? Thanks If it's just for alert, you don't need a strong dog. Get your dog familiar with loud noise. Take her out everyday and love your dog. |

Zocken: I must admit that I'm always careful with dogs, apparently due to my experience during my younger days, when the dog of a rich man in my neighbourhood attacked a friend of mine. That incident somehow made me to be scared of dogs. Nevertheless, I've always admired beautiful dogs. So, due to the fact that I was moving to a relatively secluded area, I bought an alsatian puppy primarily for security reasons. Getting the puppy afforded me the opportunity of understanding a dog, and with the help of this section, I learnt some important tips on how to raise a dog. My dog, now a year and 5 months, is agile, barks very well, especially at strangers and could obey simple commands like "sit, go back" and so on. However, I was so baffled on the day armed robbers visited my estate and my able dog refused to even bark at all. My neighbour's house was robbed for very an hour and neither his dog nor mine barked. These are dogs that are always barking all through the night. The robbery really shook my wife and she's very much afraid. I'm thinking of buying another dog, in addition to some other range of measures, to boost security at my place. Yet, it keeps agitating my mind why all the dogs in my area went cold while the robbery lasted That's why I'm wondering, how protective could dogs be?
I would also appreciate any recommendation on a very agile, protective dog which is totally opposed to strangers. I'm based in Abuja. Thanks ill just add my 2cents, like i always do. personally, ill say my dog is not my security. of course they scare people off the house when they bark but for a thief carrying gun? ill beg him to allow me lock my dog first. because believe me, the dog will save you at the cost of its life. and what happens if your dog gets a bullet on the head and the thief still robbs? if youve had experience with human security you'll know that they dont dare thieves. some will even run away and never come back. even police men carrying gun still use their siren to scare away thieves. pls dont jeopardize the life of your dear dog. yes, we know they are willing to die for us. but are we willing to let them go? my 2cent. |

since your dog is indoors, you should take off the collar. only use collars when you're taking your dog out. |

now i really think you need a vet and not nairalanders for advice else you'll be misled. what works for tom's dog might kill harry's dog. the issue of feeding your dogs egg because it isnt eating might be good on one part, but still is dangerous. remember eggs contain alot of cholesterol and too much of it can get your dog sick.
your dog might not eat due to presence of worms or some kind of illness. you should look into that before looking for other food suplements. you should try antibiotics too.
if you keep coming to nairaland for help, you might get lost in the various and diverse ways people have brought up their dog. register your dog with a vet and you'll get free advice that'l help you and your dog.

chucky234: Nice dog you got there, look rather skinny for his age and coat is a bit light. CO fur are usually thicker and attractive at puppy stage than adult stage, but the fur of the pup above look rather light and scanty which suggest the presence of a GSD's gene in his makeup. The head and muzzle becomes broader as CO grows older, but this pup"s muzzle look rather long and straight which suggest the mother or one of his ancestral parents must have been mated with a male GSD. Purity is 65%. lol....chucky and percentage scores sha... i dey gbadun you |

Mckandre: just looks like mine when i first got her... don't be discouraged by what people say at this puppyhood stage... don't be surprised when she changes for better as her(my guess its a female) age progresses. feed(kibbles or equivalent) her well together with vitamin supplements. she's looks 2-3 months of age. i dont think anyone is trying to discourage her. everyone is speaking from observation. |
