Half education is bad, that's why you're disgracing yourself without knowing it. The port I mentioned i.e. Oguta/Osemoto is only 18 miles to the Atlantic while those in Lagos and Akwa Ibom are 50 miles and 30 miles respectively.

Ignorance is making you believe that ports in Lagos and Akwa Ibom were built on the coast while in reality, they're built inland.

Stop hating my Yoruba friend.

Sea port ?

You mean inland port utilizing the rivers that flow into the Niger Delta estuary .

Now let me school you why Onistha port remains moribund

For start you will need to dredge the shallow and silt filled rivers you intend to use.

This has been proposed but dropped owing to two major reasons :

1. No be beans to dredge the rivers . The rivers are inundated yearly with high volumes of silt . It will not be cost effective to continuously dredge these rivers as heavy silt build up is an annual occurrence during the rainy season.

Even Calabar port is heavily restricted owning to its location in the Calabar marina harbour that can only manage shallow berth vessels thereby restricting the volume and types of vessels it can handle. The Calabar channel is relatively very wide but most of it isn't navigable owing to high silt deposit . Only a very narrow section at the middle is navigable and it is restricted to lighter and shallow berth vessels. Tidal swings also limit its use even at its deepest end as the tides move in and out. It is for this reason the FG in partnership with Cross River state is constructing a deep sea port in Duke Town as Calabar harbour that is even wider and deeper than any of your proposed river routes is not efficient in modern trade.

2. Resistance by Niger Delta states to this misadventure based on the very potent threat of sea water encroachment caused by such dredging is what has stalled the dredging in the first place.

3. Moving heavy container ships and oil tankers deep along these shallow river routes pose a future environmental disaster and blockade of inland ports if any of them run aground .

4. Your states have no powers nor resources to carry out such a project as it cuts across several states with waterways and shorelines along the route firmly in control of the Niger Delta states.

Are you going to forcibly dredge another man's backyard without his consent ?

5. The Federal govt has the final say on international shipping lanes within her territory . If the office of the Nigerian Security Adviser refuses to allow new shipping routes there is nothing you can do about it as international vessels will not be allowed access through these water ways.

Go school Una no go gree.
You just wrote a lengthy nonsense that shows how shallow you are.

Oseakwa and Oguta ports are only 18 nautical miles to the Atlantic while Lagos ports are over 50 nautical miles!

Oseakwa and Oguta ports are naturally deep and requires very minimal dredging!

If 50 to 60 miles of deep dredging didn't destroy flora and fauna, is it 18 miles that will?

Why are you guys so ignorant and full of hate?

Oseakwa and Oguta ports are naturally deeper than Lagos ports and also much shorter at only 18 nautical miles to the Atlantic compared to Lagos at over 50 nautical miles.

Also, Eastern Nigeria is closer to Asia than Lagos, so you can see you're just fantasizing grin grin
PoliticsRe: Why SE Must Build A Seaport Now by proeast(op): 10:00am On Jun 30, 2023
I expect Yorubas to be in support of this so that Igbos can free Lagos for them. But I'm surprised that some of them are hating again.

As long as Igbos are forced to gather in Lagos because of the ports, the city will remain choked up.

You know Igbos are aggressive capitalists, so you will always struggle against them and when you're outsmarted, it breeds envy and hate.

You mean the rivers in the south east won't require dredging
All the ports that were built in Nigeria were dredged. But some of those in the SE, particularly Oseakwa and Oguta in Anambra and Imo states respectively requires very minimal dredging because they're naturally deep. Even if they're to be dredged like others in Nigeria, they will cost less since it's only a mere 18 nautical miles to the Atlantic ocean which is far shorter than Lagos at 50 nautical miles, Onne 60 nautical miles and Ibaka 30 nautical miles.

I hope you get the point now?

Keep deceiving yourself
Abia, Imo and Anambra States all have the potentials to build deep seaports that can berth large vessels comfortably! Before anyone decides to argue blindly, here are the facts on ground about ports in Nigeria and their positions:

1. Ibaka, Akwa Ibom state; 30 miles to Atlantic.
2. Lagos State; 50 miles to Atlantic.
3. P.H, Rivers State; 50 miles to Atlantic.
4. Onne, Rivers State; 60 miles to Atlantic.

Now compare all these ports to those in SE:
1. Osemoto, Imo State; 25 miles to Atlantic.
2. Obuaku, Abia State; 18 miles to Atlantic.

The most intriguing part is that the designated ports in Osemoto/Oseakwa axis offer the deepest natural ports as well as the closest to Atlantic, thereby making them potentially the most viable and easiest to maintain in Nigeria!

Can you disprove any of the facts above? Or you just want to hate as usual?

SE has some of the best access to the sea than most other regions in Nigeria!

Abia, Imo and Anambra States have arguebly the best natural ports with close proximity to Atlantic ocean.

Your parents thought you guys how to hate but you mustn't grow with it.
PoliticsWhy SE Must Build A Seaport Now by proeast(op):
Over the years, there has been arguments and politicization on the need to build viable seaports in the SE. However, it has become an urgent need now. With the removal of fuel subsidy, any region that is capable of landing fuel directly will become more viable than others. Fuel is cheapest in Lagos and most expensive in NE because of this factor. Also, Lagos needs to breath instead of the current suffocation there. Once there is a viable competition to Lagos, tension in that city will reduce. NC and NE will also benefit because it will make fuel and other imports cheaper in those regions.

Any state in the SE that first builds a viable port will automatically become the richest in the region, but also one of the richest states in Nigeria.

You have no direct access to the ocean.

Even if it is one metre distance.

You think the river that flows from your end does not also have boundaries ?

Waterway boundaries exist for a reason and there is a point on that river flow where it no longer belongs to your Ibo land.
This issue has been argued severally in the past and concluded. I wonder why they keep bringing it up again.

Now to enlighten you, once Igbos become independent, regardless of whether the boundary ends with SE or greater Igboland, they would still have unfettered access to the ocean. The following points within the SE are closer to the Atlantic than several existing ports in Nigeria:

1. Azumini in Ukwa, Abia state.
2. Osemoto in Iheala, Anambra state.
3. Oguta in Imo State.

These places mentioned above are closer to the Atlantic than ports in Lagos and P.H. The rivers that flow from there to the ocean are naturally deep enough all year round to berth ships, even very large containerized vessels!

FYI, the Ibom deep sea port isn't located on the coast, but lies in the same latitude with the aforementioned ports in Igboland. So, if a deep sea port can be built in Ibom, why not those places?

Lol, the bigots thought that Lagos has arrived and nothing can shake it again, so they started threatening other Nigerians. Unfortunately for them, nothing is static because human existence is dynamic in nature.

If Warri people were told in the 1980's that their once economically vibrant city would today be reduced to a shanty town were Keke riders and POS operators are the big boys, they won't believe it.

If Jos people were told that their city with nice climate and beautiful scenery where foreigners and Nigerians rush to, will today become almost forgotten, they will never believe it.

Same will happen to Lagos if the bigots are not stopped. Already, the property sector in Lagos has been hit badly. If you doubt me, ask estate developers or property agents in Lagos.

Airport traffic also shows that Abuja that is less than a quarter of population of Lagos has overtaken Lagos! Abuja that is far from reaching its peak! Compared to Lagos that is nearing saturation point. Then you will see that Lagos is already declining!

They should continue with their ronu battle cry, body go soon tell them!

I want to ask the op just one question, because you supported Peter Obi and he didn’t win or he was rigged out, does that means you have no life to live within the next 4 years if the court does not remove Tinubu? Let’s start thinking like human, aside politics we have to live our lives, are you trying to tell me that you have given up on life in the next 4 years? Like you have already believed that this 4 years will not favor you and you’re doom as far as Tinubu is your president? This is a foolish approach to life, I believe the 4 years of Tinubu will Favour me, not because i necessarily believe he will turn Nigeria around but because I believe in my own capability and ability to look for opportunities, the best year of my life was 2020, during lock down when people were crying bitterly I made a lot of money from that opportunity, when Buhari caused Cash scarcity this year you know what I did? I bought a Pos and went to my mom’s restaurant in Benin, they were working with it, since there were no cash, you simply eat and you pay with pos paying just 100 extra, the little cash we got from customers we pay it out charging a reasonable fee, you know what happened? At a time I was making an average of 40k per day before everything went back to normalcy, but I could have been at home crying like you that Buhari regime was not favoring me, instead of that I found a way to make a lot of money, if you continue this mindset you will die poor, all government will set it’s own policy, some people will look at those policies and make opportunities out of it, but some people like you will rather be here wasting away and crying, if you don’t change your mindset the next 4 years is going to be a waste for you just like you wanted.

Ps permit my long epistle, I sha hope that you will have sense one day.
I read posts like this and cringe at the warped mindsets people like this guy have. You're proud to say that you profited from the misery of other Nigerians during the cashless period? Why would you charge extra 100 naira from people that patronized your mother's food stall? Are you aware that some others deployed their own POS at no extra charge? But typical of dark souls like you, you saw it as an opportunity to reap from the already suffering masses.

That's why people like you don't see anything wrong in profiting from the misery of others. As long as you can get peanuts from this government, then the rest Nigerians can go to hell.

What if I tell you that I made millions as profit in the last couple of months, even better than other months in the preceding years? Would I now attribute it to Tinubu? Would I now say, God has blessed me, let the rest Nigerians suffer to death?

People like you are very selfish and wicked.
