MadCow1: [b]As a Student in school, one Sunday whilst at church, my phone rang and when I answered, it was the sweetest and most angelic voice I have ever heard in my life. Barely 30 seconds into the conversation, I realized she had called the wrong number and I was a bit reluctant to tell her but I did and she apologized and hung up.

I couldn't help myself so I called her and complimented her voice and told her how melodic her voice was and all that sweet nothing we guys say, she was a good sport and laughed but didn't take Offence nor hang up. I told her I would call her from time to time just to hear her say hi and she didn't object. I got back to the hostel and told my homies about my encounter and one of them said he also had a similar experience and that he is currently holding steady chats with his own unknown caller on the phone. After several chats, I enquired about her location and the chances of us meeting and she said 'Accra'.. shocked Accra was quite the distance from my school and the roads where horrible. 6 hours plus.

Anyways, it was on.. I was already looking forward to meeting the finest girl I would have ever met who had the sweetest voice I have ever heard. A couple of months down, I was in Accra and I called her up and set up a meeting and she agreed.

D-Day arrived and I went to the designated bus stop just near a filling station and waited for the arrival of my Swan princess. As I stood there, I caught the sight of a beautiful girl walking in my direction, my heart froze and I stood transfixed on her hip as it swayed like a pendulum ball from side to side with every step she took in my direction. The closer she got, the faster my heartbeat. She was tall, dark skinned, slim body build, too slim for the arsse she was carrying on her slender waistline, pretty face, perky boo-bs and wore a fitted jean that made all her asset stand out. I was stunned and even started panicking as I doubted I wouldn't stutter in the presence of this Pochahuntas looking goddess. Then she picked her phone up and started making a call and my EKG spiked. when she started speaking and walked past me, my heart sank.. It was not her. angry I continued waiting. Several hot Babes kept walking past that at some point I might as well have been at a runway modeling show. A few minutes passed and nothing. Just then I saw another babe walking slowly and looking confused as though she was looking for someone.

Immediately, my Spidy-Sense started tingling fast. Jesus Christ of Kumasi, this babe was Ugly as fhuck. I immediately took cover and watched her movements from behind my hiding place. The girl stopped, head looking around, she picks her phone and dials a number, I felt my phone vibrate and the voice of James Blunt came out his speakers singing 'You're beautiful'.. grin FHUCK THAT!! I slapped the phone silent and contemplated my next move. I can't be caught with this Ogre in broad daylight, my reputation would be ruined. So after a few seconds, I answered and Lo! She was the one calling me, I could see her lips moving in sync with the voice in my ears. angry immediately I sap tarted retreating and told her I had to run off as one of my mates called with an emergency that please we should reschedule our meeting. She looked disappointed but said cool and I fixed a new meeting for later that evening. After she left, I came out my hiding place and ran for my life.. That line has never been used again since that day.

That's my story..

a Geophysicist will never agree that geology is better than geophysics, neither will a geologist agree that geophysics is better.

smartness
intelligence

pls let us discus something that will contribute to our knowledge other than unnecesary arguement.
because this kind of arguement can even weaken some young students.

because when ur course is critisized in order to win a debate, it may make you hate the course which will subsequently reduce ur enthusiasm towards reading.

crudedude: I love your response. but again I ask. On a broader scale of Job prospects which has more options? The Geologist or the Electrical Engineer? If i might add also, the Oil Industry is not the only industry.

Besides more and more schools are now offering Geology and admitting much more students.

The Geologist is most peculiar to Oil and gas industry, and whatever involves the earth. The Electrical Engineer can work in a cement factory, in refineries, in a bank, in space programmes, in power generation/transmission, in construction, in communication and so on and so forth.
Infact, Any place that involves "designing, building, and maintaining structures, machines, devices, systems, materials and processes." There's a 90% chance there's an Electrical Engineer there.

This you'll agree is way more than what's obtainable for a Geologist. Some are even of the opinion that a Geophysicist has more options than a Geologist.

I know the dream of every Geologist is to be in Oil and gas. But if (God forbid) he's not there, What are his options?.

At the end of the day. Not everybody will work in the Oil and Gas Industry. We can only pray for Gods favour.

I have a question for the professionals just to pacify my curios mind.

In the Oil and Gas industry as a whole from exploration to production plus servicing. Which of the professionals in debate have more slots?

Good morningsmiley
uhm, good points raised, however let me let u kw that even in construction & the other fields u mentioned Geologist are @ the forefront. U can not do any construction without first running a soil test & interpreting,șo as to kw wat kind of foundation to carry out. U also nid to kw d strength of d load etc. As such d Engrs wil be handicap without d Geologist in dis one. U c y both courses & others are complimentary. Nw to d comparison btw a Geophysicist & Geologist, everyone kws Geophysics is only an aspect or branch of Geology. In exploration & processing,u nid Geophysicst without a doubt, but they cannot function without a Geologist. First a geologist wil determine where to sink an appraisal well,d geological interpretation of info from dat well is done by him as well,Geophysics take on from there & later hand over to them 4 d sinking of more wells. They cannot read d structures pattern(faults, domes, etc). Come to think of it,a Geologist can even perform d task of a Geopysicst, cos they dd a bit of such & othe branches of Geology in their studies . . . Why would anyone ♍aƙē d mistake of comparing a Nigeria & say Ebonyi statehuhhuh

Ï am not here to compare which among Geology and Elec Eng is a better course to study in Nigeria. Obviously both courses are great to study any day no matter how they are taught. But the point Ï'm after is the opportunities opened to one wЂό̲̣̣̣̥
studied them after graduation. Nigeria is packed with âƖōŧ of Elec Engr, with comparatively few qualified Geologist. Small wonder, for some three years nw O&G companies e.g Chevron,Shell & some other servicing companies are demanding the manpower of Geological graduates. No matter how well taught the subject of Geology was in school, these coys wil stil send u 4 a refresher course to channel u to fit into d biz. Șo my friends,Ï like to conclude by saying : OIL MONEY is beta than BLOOD MONEY.

opella: @image5, thanks for this, @Ezegozie, i wouldn't have said it any better. all you need is commitment, be serious with your studies, study like u've never done before, set a target for your self as image5 said, like i always did, each semester i always assign A's to all my courses and made sure i worked towards it both spiritually and academically.

please dont develop hatred for any of your lecturers, cos if you do, it will surely affect your grade, cos you will lose interest in such course.
Also, make sure you attend lectures and on time too, so that you dont miss any impromptu quiz or free marks,do your assignments too, most of us think that these assignments and quiz dont add up, that's a big lie cos they do. Avoid back seats, these our lecturers have eyes, they know students that attend classes and in most of their meetings they discuss students, and it will be a very bad thing if lecturers knows you as an unserious student.

This has always been my quote "never let your schooling interfere with your education." Mark Twain. Avoid too much parties if you are the party type, our school is always bubbling with parties but dont be carried away. You wont believe it if i told you that i never attended any party throughout my 4 yrs in school, maybe cos am not the party type. All still boils down to setting a goal for your self.

Get fully prepared for an exam, by reading with friends especially the bright students in class, get close to them, ask questions on courses you find difficult, interact and answer pass questions. You need to see my room during exam periods, my friends will carry their bags to my hostel, we study , ask questions and study pass questions at the end we all come out successful, my roomie who wasn't a geologist admired us although attimes we piss her off with noise wink

i can go on and on.... but my dear it still depends on you cos, genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration, you have to work extra hard, is not easy but at the end you will look back and smile. ciao cheesy cheesy

Hope this will help. Remember "YOU ARE THE BEST OF YOUR KIND, AND YOU CAN ACHIEVE ANYTHING YOU WANT TO, IF YOU PUT YOUR MIND TO IT.
. Opella,Opella,Opella!!!!! U surely are my kind of gal. Ï always respect ladies wЂό̲̣̣̣̥
are not jst brilliant but willing to give even more(seriousness to school work). If u were in my school(uniport) Ï will endorse u straight away into my study group(7.5G discussion class-5males n 3females). Ï dove my hat to u swthrt. @Ezegozie : like d̶̲̅éý told u,set reasonable priorities 4 urself nd work towards it. Ï did that when Ï came 4 d basic sch(more-like yr pre-degree),Ï said Ï want to be among d top three and it happened. Ï never let that got into me,instead Ï told myself that Ï want to graduate as d top in my class or d top two. Ï hv barel 2months to go nd guess wat, both goals are ѵr̶̲̥̅̊

Mary was specially conceived without original sin you and i was born with, she was specially designed as the vessel to bring the savior into this world, as for the name Mary, you are right it could as well be Martha or even chrissy3, but it wasn't . and if you say she was just a human, y weren't YOU chosen to bring the savior into the world. i beg of you change you ideology about all this things. ignorance is bliss they say but it is stupid when you base your arguments on them.. have a nice day smiley
did u say Mary was specially conceived without original sin? Uhm,then read your Bible again. All Ï know is that Mary was just like anyone of us,born with inherited sin. But Jesus did not inherit such Adamic sin because Mary had no intercourse before she conceived him. About what Okotie said,it is not my place to judge nor anybody. Only God knows those SERVING HIM.

Ezegozie: The fact that you are a unizik geology student does not obliterate the fact that we have very strict and sadist lecturers.

Ofcus if you write well, you score well, but how well is the well?

how many times have they graduated 1st class?

Last year and last two year, how many people graduated with 2.1, not even upto ten students, go and verify .

Is it not sadism, when some lecturers will come to class and when students are many, they start complaining and blaiming the dept for admitting more than 30 students.
But anytime we are small in class, he will lock door and give quiz? About 10marks even when the time of lecture was disrupted.

Is it not sadism when a lecturer is looking for ways to fail student by mandating everybody to be comming to class with office files containing his assignments upon assignments which constitute 20marks, and he will collect the file anytime he desires, even when the lecture hall is nearly empty.

Is it not sadism when somebody will enter exam hall, and when you are writing exam, he will substract 20marks from ur script simply because you are not covering your answer script well from girrafers

let me stop here for now

Its not that i hate my lecturers, some of them like Prof Onwuemesi, Dr Lizzy, Dr onuigbo, Dr victor maduewesi, etc are also very good and considerate.
Are they here now, but i am talking good of them.

I am not also saying these because i am not academically serious or that my GP is too low, i have never failed a course ever since i got admision in Unizik, but it does not change the fact that we have come strict and sadist lecturers, believe it or not .

My prayer is for God to guide , protect and help me towards getting 2.1 because it is not easy at all in unizik.
. My brother, such is not unique. To unizik alone. Uniport last graduated a first class way back in 1986,bt that does nt mean there has nt been a first class material since then. Notwithstanding, when u re gud, u dont nid to be covered with a first class garment, all u nid is a sound 2.1,yr brain nd most importantly God. We can always take some positives from those "sadist lecturers",as they help to shape u 4 a world where people hardly appreciates hard-work. It pays to kw what u're doing
