Fashion / Re: Ladies: Can You Attend Events Without Makeup? by promire2004(f): 9:32pm On Sep 16, 2014
Well, it depends on the circumstances surrounding the event. Personally, I love to look good, clean and fresh and judicious use of make-up can downplay a girl's facial flaws. The only reason why I would be caught in an event without a make-up on is if I'm running late or something. I don't know why some of us here are acting up. Make-up items are very expensive yet there is so much patronage from ladies. If everyone claims "I love to look natural, I don't wear make-up bla bla bla, who then buys these stuffs? We should be sincere please. Afterall, nobody is gonna whoop your asses for speaking your mind.

Only girls who suffer from inferiority complex and who crave so much for class fall into this category. A self-confident lady understands that life is not a bed of roses and that no-one should be looked down on irrespective of the status attained. It's very common amongst ladies. There is this unnecessary power tussle. The "I better pass you" attitude which is just puerile. Na 1 of those things joor.

Eberex: I remember a period I was so so so so so sooooooooooooo close to God and my faith was so awesome!!!! That was in ogun state during my service year, and it was only because there were lots and lots of shrines close to my lodge. I got to be prayerful during that period else who knows what would have happened to me.

Please be steadfast in your faith. Never relent and don't give up. No matter the situation. God will make a way for you. He will guide and keep you.

Religion / How Strong Is Your Faith In God? by promire2004(f): 9:14am On Sep 05, 2014
Good morning everyone. I feel an inner urge within me to share a word with you this day. How faithful are we in our belief in God? God is pleased when we put all our hope and trust in Him. Believing completely in God pleases Him and He in turn surprises us with blessings so great that our eyes are joyfully filled with tears as we share our testimonies.

Abraham, our father in faith offered His son as a sacrifice unto the Lord. He had absolute belief in God that God will not fail him and God proved Himself strong in his life. Also, the book of Daniel 3:1-30. I'll place my emphasis on chapter 18. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refused to bow before the golden image and king Nebuchadnezzar was furious. He ordered that the furnace be heated seven times hotter. The men who threw Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego could not survive the furnace. Naturally, the intensity of the heat from the furnace was enough to make the three servants of God want to give up. But they were unwavering in their belief. They stood their ground and told King Nebuchadnezzar that God will deliver them from the fiery furnace and that "If He does not, that they wll not serve the King's gods or worship his golden image. Now, this is total surrender. And again, God proved Himself strong, not a hair of their heads singed. Their robes were not scorched and there was no smell of fire on them.
King Nebuchadnezzer was astounded. Because of the unwavering faith of these three great men, the King ordered that nothing should be said against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Thereafter, the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the province of Babylon.
In our everyday lives, we can put these bible teachings into practise with songs of praises from our lips. In every situation, we should learn to give thanks to the Most High God for He alone is worthy of our praises. He knows the end from the beginning. His plans for us are of peace and not of evil. He will not give up on us, because He is able to do exceedingly, abundantly that which is seemingly impossible.
Thanks and may God bless us all.

Way-maker God. Almighty God. Supplier God, Comforter God. Indescribable God. Awesome God. The mighty One who placed the stars in the sky and knows them by name. The One who sits in the heavens and the Earth is His footstool. Compassionate Father, Merciful God, Jehovah Adonai. The One and only true God. Miracle Worker. Unchangeable changer. The One who sees the end from the beginning. The Alpha and the Omega. Caring and loving Father. The One who lovingly chastises and corrects. My Deliverer. Glorious God.

TV/Movies / Re: My Experience Of "Half Of A Yellow Sun" At The Cinema by promire2004(f): 11:37pm On Aug 04, 2014
Briareos:

I'm going to see the movie solely because of Kainene. One of the best characters to ever come out of a Nigerian novel in a long time. Her role, if you look at it critically, is the most iconic in the whole novel. Plus she is frakking independent.

Mild Spoilers Ahead

Revolutionary Lover was a closetted tribalist. I couldn't forgive Ugwu for the rape. Olanna was the supporting actress in the world of another person. Kainene, on the other hand, was the lead actor in her world.

Kainene exudes a lot of boldness and self-confidence. There couldn't have been a better substitute for Onyeka Owenu who played the role of Odenigbo's mother. Typical Nigeria woman.....lol.
TV/Movies / Re: My Experience Of "Half Of A Yellow Sun" At The Cinema by promire2004(f): 10:37pm On Aug 04, 2014
@Op, the movie "half of a yellow sun" was diplomatically scripted to avoid every form of sentiment from the warring tribes. It was acted based on the stories of the novel. Personally, I admired Chimamanda Adichie's impeccable choice of words. I loved the role of Chiwetel Ejiofor, a university lecturer. His description in the novel matched his personality in the movie. I expected to see a not-so-pretty Kainene, but I was a little disappointed because the movie character was way prettier than I expected. Kainene seemed to harbor some resentment against her sister in the novel, but she showered her sister with so much love in the movie, (forgiving her wrongs). The most touching aspects of the movie for me were the scenes at the airport (killings of the ibos by the hausa soldiers). The painful loss of friends and family members. Nothing was said about Ugwu's sick mother in the movie. In all, I had fun watching the movie at the cinema. It was so touching. Thandie Newton looked so fragile and vulnerable. Genevieve played the role of the sharp-mouthed Ms Adebayo impressively.

Please let us learn to appreciate our very own. This is the first Nigerian movie I am watching at the cinema and I can proudly say I got real value for my money. There were lessons learnt. Lessons of forgiveness as displayed by Olanna. She looked after the little girl "baby or Chiamaka" as if it was hers. Kainene forgave her sister as well.....we should be objective in our comments rather than been unnecessarily tribalistic.

Career / Re: What Will You Do To Your Current Boss If You Suddenly Become His/her Boss? by promire2004(f): 5:55am On Dec 18, 2013
Well, for me, it's best to let go of resentment, grudge or bitterness. This do-me-i-do-you attitude stems from an unforgiving heart. Why try to be vindictive when God has already intervened? I'll still be nice to my boss irrespective of how well or how badly he/she treated me. It's a small world anyways. No-one knows tomorrow. This is more like a wake-up call. Let's be mindful in our dealings with people.

He is not obligated to meet your needs. Ladies, please we need to change our orientation when it involves money. Get busy and add positive value to his life. Phema, congrats dear on your forth-coming wedding. Just take it easy, okay? The lines will fall unto you in pleasant places in Jesus Name, Amen. I accompanied a friend and client of mine for bridal shopping. We travelled to lag, went to Tom Jones, Marina to get wedding gowns. We were very surprised to find out that the wedding gowns were half the amount of what we saw in Benin. You will even get a wide range of wedding gowns to choose from. A proper bridal shopping may take you up to 3 days to do. For the record, I was the make-up artiste for the bride. The wedding was properly organized and it was so much fun. I have a cousin who is an event planner. We are both based in Benin. Reply if you are interested. Thanks and God bless.

Education / How Do We Get Ourselves Pre-occupied During This Period Of ASUU Strike? by promire2004(f): 8:20am On Oct 15, 2013
Hey nairalanders, we all know that there has been an ongoing strike between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU). However, I would like us to share our personal experiences and how well we've used this period of strike to our advantage.

Starting with me, I was very lucky to have finished my first Semester Examinations before the strike started. Ever since, I have been developing myself with skills acquisition. I learnt all about make-overs before I started my masters programme. Right now, I'm putting all my skills into practise and I'm enjoying every bit of it. Just recently, I have also developed an interest in Events planning, Hall decoration, cake baking, learning new bridal hairstyles, bridal shopping, etc. I have a lot of job ahead of me, (traditional and bridal make-overs). For me, this period of strike has been a time of self-discovery. Time waits for no one and nothing last forever, let's enjoy and make good use of every moment of our lives.

I know we all have stories to tell. We are multi-talented and unless we make an attempt to follow our passion and interest, we may never know how richly endowed we are. Please let's share our opinions and have fun while we wait for Federal Government and ASUU body to reach a consensus.
