IMO,what makes a guy a gentleman is his charisma and d way he comports himself. Been considerate, good-natured, courteous, polite well-mannered, less talkative, soft-spoken, neat, approachable, benevolent are also attributes dat can make a guy a gentleman. Unfortunately, we don't have more of gentlemen in 9ja these days. Most guys eyes just dey shook!

Even if I'm worth a billion dollars, God forbids that I raise my children as 'bolo' mumus without street smarts. As long as they'll live in Nigeria at any point in time during their adulthood, it is a CRITICAL NECESSITY for them to learn how to not only speak what the masses largely understand (i.e. Pidgin), but also to possess elements of street wisdom and 'street charm' - which are necessarily intertwined with an understanding of the definitive lingo (i.e. Pidgin) of the vulgar majority. All this fake, pretentious 'aje butter'  nonsense would definitely make a person a soft target in the mean streets of Naija. My children would certainly not be anything remotely close to the stereotypical aje butter mumus that are terribly detached - largely by affectation and delusion of sophistication - from everyday reality.

It would help if I send them to the sort of secondary school I went to - any of the military owned schools such as Command Sec School, Airforce or Navy. Such schools - with the mixture of upper, middle and lower class students - have a way of toughening children and balancing their perspective.

Bottomline: Pidgin English is a MUST for my kids; if my native-level fluency in pidgin hasn't diminished my fluency in English, then I don't see how it would negatively affect my kids'.
pro01, thanks for been realistic. No fronting, forming or pretence whatsoever. I concur completely with u. *c ur gbaski write-up*.

wen i said u were right earlier on, i said it because of the preceding thread u posted. U mentioned sth bout some of ur fwends who were sent abroad to learn good english. They ended up learning just 1 language why you learnt diverse languages. I simply said u were right when you talked about how good learning different languages can be. Nuffin else.

Thank you very much. My parents taught my siblings and I how to live a balanced life. I have friends who grew up in England and whose parents categorically barred them from speaking pidgin English or their native language. Their parents sent them to England so that they can speak "good English." We, on the other hand, grew up in Nigeria and were allowed to speak Yoruba at home, but we were sent to a private school where we were taught very well and spoke only regular English. We learned pidgin English by speaking it to traders in the market and to other people who cannot speak it regular English.

Now, many of my friends who thought it is badge of honor to speak only language are envious of our ability to speak all three languages fluently, while they can speak only one fluently. I am also a proud graduate of law and chemistry from a top university in America. I now speak Yoruba, pidgin, or my posh English accordingly and at the right occasion. Bottom line is that diversity is good, so your kids won't be like all these unexposed kids who can only adapt to one environment, which is typical of many of our kids today, especially Nigerian kids born and raised in the diaspora.
yeah, u're right. One fact about us (nigerians) is that we are just wannabes. We want to speak, dress, walk and act like the western world, and in a bid to achieving this, we tend to abandon some of our values. Surprisingly, most of these foreign expatriates here in 9ja dig our much despised "wafarian pidgin english" swag, by communicating with it. They even go about exploring our delicacies. (for example, owo and starch). Sounds weird and ridiculous but it is just the fact.

Yes a prudent wife comes from God but she aint manna. Gos is not in the biz of bringing women to men's doorstep cz he wants them to be men who put his words to action.
Activate the search engines (eyes, legs, mouth, brains) he naturally gave you and stop behaving like spirits.
Look the same God says 'whoever 'finds' a wife finds a good thing and obtains favour.Seek and ye shall find.Delight yourself in Him and he shall give you your heart's desires.so how does all this seeking/delighting and finding go?

Do not be lazy and give God unnecessary work cz he wont do the search for you.Not after hes blessed you with brains.
And rem anytime you pick one line of scripture and build your life around it, you mess up good.

Now,even the most faithful make mistakes cz allowing God to guide your relationship is not immunity to failure.
And I will tell you why.He allows us to fail so that we stop boasting. Failures humble us and make us recognise the place of God.So if you ask me,its often the most faithful who fail and make the biggest mistakes.

Relationships are natural things.God only helps us to make decisions in line with His word but we are not immune to failure like everybody else just cz we use Him as shield. Stop applying natural principles and behave like a spirit then you see how that relationship will come tumbling down.

Now back to topic. Well am not a believer in first sight stuff.I got to know and feel you first before my mind can adjust to you being a future partner.
take it easy gurl, u're kinda taking it personal. Nobody knws it all, hence the topic was brought about 2 enable us air our views. Different strokes for different folks. It may not work for you, but it works out well for some other persons, ok?

Are your kids too dumb that they cannot speak more than one language? A child's ability to juggle many different languages shows intelligence.  undecided. Nothing wrong with pidgin, it can open some doors same as polished english can. It is all about balance and a child's intelligence. There are some people that can speak pidgin and in the next minute converse in very posh english.
yeah, u're absolutely on point dear. Cos i remember when i was much younger, i was very good with both pidgin and 'posh' english. I got acquainted with very big words and made the dictionary my 2nd closest companion after the bible. It was quite amazing to most of my friends how i balanced my pidgin and good english. Though i graduated as a scientist, English is still my forte'. Pidgin english is cool when spoken at the right time and place. At formal gatherings where you meet personalities, you simply activate your "posh english".

I was told by a few people that they thought God was directing them only later to tell me they have misinterpreted the "directions".

Holy One is not an author of confusion and the directions given will be concrete and clear however people tend to use God as a clutch for their foolishness and often times blame God for their careless ways.  I have seen and heard it too many times.

Even in the bible it said do not be a fool.  I am only using the bible because it was mentioned on this thread.

Satan/Devil knows the bible too and will use it against you.  Be careful.
well, so many people go about saying false things to support whatever actions they are taking. Mind u, i aint talking about liars and cheap blackmailers. I'm talking about true practising christians who seek the face of God in choosing a life partner. Nobody holy pass. It's a free world and everyone is entitled to his/her opinion.

I don't know why some people acts as if they know it all, where as they remain blind to the glaring light. You

Realistic responses: here, let's learn. After i had waited for about 7-8yrs or so, as far i can remember, i did 3 days dry fast with fervent prayer, seeking the face of God for his will concerning the person to marry ,there was no real confirmation, again, i repeated the 3 days dry fast with vigil and intensive prayer, it was after this last one that the Lord touched my heart with the name of my wife. I got the confirmation myself on the prayer alter during the personal vigil. It wass real. What happened after that really amazed me. I began to have a kind of "glow" feeling towards this sister, it was awesome. Later, the sister(my wife) too was having the same confirmation on the other hand. The rest is history. God is still in the business of giving you your missing rib. It is happening. It has happened. It will continue to happen, provided you ask him. My own may be different from your own. Share and let us learn. God bless you. God2man.
woooooow, i'm intrigued by ur experience. Sooooooo touchingggggg. It doesn't always work dis way u knw? God works in mysterious ways. Some other persons meet their heart-throb without even knowing initially, but l8r realized they were meant for each other.

So lemme get this straight, because the individual before your last quote gave an answer to you that was more in favor to your religious beliefs, that makes the answer "perfect"?

One thing i believe is life without God is useless,no matter how rich, intelligent, beautiful, knowledgeable, poor, tall,or educated you are.
It is true that God never fails and He uses his angels to directs your path to the right partner/husband/wife.But if you should go on and do it on your own,
be sure to carry your cross on your own too, when the going gets tough. i wonder how some people who don't believe in Jesus or God,always uses the name
'Jesus' maybe when they drop their BB phone or maybe almost hit by a racing car, bicycle,or a passing van. Jeez!

many attimes, we get to learn from our parents, uncles, aunties, older cousins etc about a whole lot of things. Dating, relationships and marriages is usually not an exception. They try as much as possible to preach morality which is quite cool. Most older folks, ( parents, pastors and very staunch christians) are of the opinion that you dont have to date or court for sooooo long. Long courtship is discouraged because it leads to a whole lot of issues that may l8r make the marital lives of these couples unenjoyable. Issues ranging from over-familiarity, fertility problems etc. They are also of the opinion that if you draw close to God, you will definitely get a sign once you find that special person, without going into long-term relationship and dating several persons. What is your opinion on this? Please, i need your perfect sense of judgement here. Realistic responses are highly welcome.of the opinion that if you draw close to God, you will definitely get a sign once you find that special person, without going into long-term relationship and dating several persons.
