@yawa-ti-de
you got that right

@inf8nity
am not talking about the free templates you get at freejoomlatemplatez.com or joomla 24. Most of them look horrible and are mostly between 153 to 500 kb in size. Am talking about premium quality templates, like those by gavick pro, rok e.t.c that are usually between 5 to 50mb in size (of course the actual template size is much smaller than that,the size is due to modules, components, plugins and other add ons). I'll post a picture of the kind of template am talking about.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Adebayor Celebration Courts Controversy by proproman(m): 2:15am On Sep 15, 2009
@ The viper, do you truly have consideration for your fellow man? Put yourself in Adebayor's shoes let's see if it won't take the intervention of hussein bolt to stop you sprinting round the stadium, making rude hand gestures at the opposing fans. For goodness sakes, that guy was booed by people that were supposed to be supporting him. How do you expect a player to perform well when you make it clear that he does not have your support? If man u fans were booing ronaldo, do you think he would have been that prolific. Arsenal fans are the worst fair weather fans i've come across. When Adebayor scored that goal against villareal in the champions league quarter finals, he suddenly became the world best striker to the arsenal fans and they felt the goal deserved to be the best champions league goal of all time. When he failed to score against man u in the semis he became the worst. The young man could not take it anymore. Arsenal fans say he left because of money. Well, why not? The fans did not offer him their support, the coach did not offer his confidence and the club did not keep the faith. The only other thing he could get from them was money and as every one knows how arsenal is with money, there was nothing else for him at the club and he had to leave. Some dumb arsenal fan will say their coach showed confidence in him by playing him. Rubbish. Wenger played Adebayor more because he did not have a choice than having confidence in him. You guys should stop all this whining, we're all sick of it. If it were ronaldo celebrating against man u, there would be nothing wrong. Because you guys are on the losing end, all hell must be let loose. All this talk about professionalism should stop. Is own goal diaby a professional? Hate it or love it, ade is a great striker and arsenal have lost two games in a row. Abeg dey run dey go, my guy. Nutin do you. Leave all these yeye arsenal fans. "hiss".
Nairaland GeneralWhy Is It That Nigerians Dont Seem To Care About Others? by proproman(op): 6:59pm On Sep 13, 2009
Why do most nigerians seem not to care about people around them? As i post this, i am in a bus behind a big lorry that's billowing clouds of smoke in our faces. My eyes are red and i'm coughing. Didn't the owner of the lorry know that it was smoking so badly? Doesn't he or she know the health implications of excessive smoke inhalation? And i'm sure that lorry will remain like that for years to come, till it's too broken to move. It's even more unfortunate as we are in a traffic gridlock and there's no way out of this. Why is it that lots of nigerians don't seem to be concerned about the welfare of others?

Er, i think you guys are deviating to far away from what i asked. I asked which is the preferred open source software for <b>social networking</b> and not just any site.

I concede that joomla is the easiest to learn, use and customize but has any of you used elgg? Try it. It's really great for social networking. With it you can create a site that would make Mark Zuckerberg of facebook green with envy! Joking, but i really think someone should give elgg a tryout. Its free to download, it's about 2mb. If you need a download link i'll post one shortly.

GamingRe: Playstation 3 Ad: Sony Apologises to Nigerians by proproman(m): 1:05am On Sep 11, 2009
@theseeker, am not impressed by your take on this issue, especially as it concerns marissa's posts. Am not defending the government's inefficiency but you cannot blame them for all nigeria's problems.

Take for instance what the case of someone living in a dirty environment. What stops that person from cleaning the place up? Would the person still be waiting for government after suffering typhoid and diarrhea? Wouldn't he clean the place up? Believe me, some people are waiting for government to come clean up their compounds and if the place is dirty, they blame government. There is a particular point at which blaming government becomes outright hypocrisy.

Imagine someone throwing refuse into a gutter complaining of a blocked drain. What was the person expecting? And the person will still blame government for it. People complain of lack of good public toilets, i suggest you find out how they make use of the existing facilities. It's more scary than the horror movies. I assure you, noone would like to accept the responsibility of cleaning up such a place, even if u offer the person lots of money. The fact that government does not do certain things does not give us the licence to make things worse. The fact that there is no bed does not mean one should not sleep.

WebmastersJoomla, Pligg, Elgg, Drupal Or Xoops & Social Networking by proproman(op): 3:39am On Aug 16, 2009
Its quite good that there are a wide range of free & open source software for website creation. In creating social networks or online communities, some are better suited for the purpose than others.
For that reason, i've selected some of the most popular and widely used software namely; joomla, pligg, elgg, drupal and xoops and pose a question to the webmasters in the house:
If you had to build a social network or online community with any of them, which would you use and why?

WebmastersRe: Web Designer Needed! by proproman(m): 1:32pm On Aug 12, 2009
Let me come in here. Everyone has made a point. Yemo's posting of a joomla template sort of alarmed me when i first saw it considering the pic was not of his site and it looked like a site my friend created. It would have been much better if he posted a pic of his own site wether it was made on joomla or not. However, i can't fault him for using joomla. He is a WEB DESIGNER and not a WEB DEVELOPER. Web designers are not expected to code every website they create. They can if they want to but its not exclusively expected of them. I'm a web designer and i've used joomla and a good number of other open source software, free or not. They can be time saving with quite outstanding results. If you code from scratch, you'll have to look out for glitches and bugs and run several tests before release. The open source software are mostly finished stuff with very minor bugs. Saves time. Coding from scratch is also great because you have complete control over your work and is also unique. I somewhat agree with yemo on customers appreciation of a site. A good number of them cannot tell the difference between a site built on open source software and one coded from scratch. What they compliment is the finished product. Still its ok to code. Yemo, i still think your resumé/portfolio should contain a picture of your own site and not a general template. If you need help getting a picture of your site, i can help you out. I hope i've made my point.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: UCL :Liverpool (1) Vs Chelsea (3) on Wed 8th April by proproman(m): 7:43am On Apr 09, 2009
Write liverpool off at your own peril. Liverpool are down 3-1 (4-1 on away goals rule),big deal. Liverpool have a tremendous fighting spirit that has seen them overturn some impossible deficits. Liverpool play better when under pressure which was why they beat man u 4-1. They knew that if they lost that match, their title race was as good as over. This time, the stakes are higher and, yes, liverpool can beat chelsea 4-0 at stamford bridge. Yes i know chelsea fans will shout god forbid and god punish you but am just saying what is obtainable. 4 goals at old trafford with mr fergie coaching na beans? Anyhow sha, anybody that wins will still lose to barca. Barca 4 life, Messi 4 world best!

Goodness! Its appalling how we Nigerians think. I can now see that Nigeria's greatest problem is Nigerians. We truly need re branding. Just take a look at the way a good number of posters have lambasted Madam Dora for an idea that is for their own good. You people should free the woman jare! Wetin? Even if it was boredom that drove her into the idea, at least the result of her boredom was creative. We all know what a lot of other people in power do when they are bored. Go on drinking binges at expensive hotels and carry girls young enough to be their daughters from our universities. Not long ago, someone brought up a topic about obama saying that obama called all nigerians scammers and that oprah said all Nigerians are thieves. All hell was let loose on both of them. Someone rained curses on Obamas family. Another cast aspersions on Oprah's parenthood and called down thunder on both of them. If they actually said such, what do you think gave them such an impression if not what they heard from people. Afterall, none of them has come to nigeria. Madam dora has brought up an idea to prevent people from saying bad things about our country and all people can do is shout her down. Go to yahoo messenger to chat. If someone asks your location, just type nigeria. The next reply from the person is "bye". Either the person is a yahoo boy that does not want to waste time on another omo naija like him or it is a foreigner that is afraid of getting scammed. If the woman sat in her office and did nothing, all of you would call for her head. Now that she decided to do something, all you guys can do is pick faults with her plan. Not as if any of you would do better. Look at what you guys are telling her to do: fix roads, provid electricity and all the basic amenities of life. What is she, the president? Aren't there other ministries concerned with the afore mentioned? At least i remember there are ministries of education, works and housing and all that. Should she then take money from her ministry and go fixing a problem in another person's ministry? As far as i know, the information system in this country is quite good so her ministry has less to worry about. Nigerians, learn to appreciate the little someone is trying to do instead of looking for the whole seven yards all at once. Be re branded! Ah ah. Sheor!

i have nothing against the loveworld whatever. What i am pointedly against is the way their members go about touting the pastor like some kind of god. It gets very annoying, really. I have this friend of mine that's always disturbing me to follow him to cell meeting and their church programme. It's always pastor this pastor that. Pastor did this, pastor said that. Even when I remind him that i too am a christian and i also go to my church, he says it doesn't matter that i should follow him to cell meeting. Another friend of mine dresses up, acts like and even did his hair like pastor chris. Ah ah. Na wetin?
