Traders count losses as fire destroys goods worth N50m
Tears, agony at Onitsha Main Market
Jeff Amechi Agbodo, Onitsha

Traders at Johnson Street, near Main Market Onitsha, Anambra State have been counting their losses following an inferno that destroyed goods worth N50 million at the market.

The fire, which started at night, when activities at the market had closed and the traders had gone home for the day, consumed no fewer than 10 warehouses stocked with diapers, babies’ items, cosmetics and other goods.

The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained, but there are insinuations that it might be some spark from an electric outlet or from a generating set near the place.

It took the efforts of security men at the market, youths and water vendors to prevent the fire from spreading to the main market. That would, no doubt, have been a disaster.

A security man at the market gate, Mr. Clement Orakwe said that the fire started about 8pm when he sighted some smoke from the market line. He thereafter rushed to the scene and noticed that the building was on fire, he said, adding that he promptly raised the alarm.

“When I noticed the fire, I raised the alarm and other security men and some youths from nearby residential houses rushed out. So we immediately contacted the fire service that is stationed at the main market. The people came with one truck but said that they did not have enough water and they left after exhausting the little water that they came with.

“We were helpless because if the fire was allowed to spread to the next building, the entire main market would have been consumed. So, we started calling the owners of the shops on phone, and some of them came immediately. Thank God for the water vendors whom we mobilised. They were the ones that fetched the water that we used to put out the fire with the efforts of other youths,” Orakwe stated.

A victim of the fire, Mr. Chima Kenechukwu, who deals in cosmetics and babies products, said that he was called on phone by some people that his warehouse was on fire. he regretted that before he could arrive at the market, his entire stock, amounting to over N6 million, had been razed.

“My surprise is that there is no electricity in the warehouse and nobody lives there. So the question is, how did the fire come into this place? We suspect that our neighbour who uses big generating set did not change over to electricity and when they restored electric power, there was a power jam or surge that led to the spark which caused the inferno,” he stated.

Another victim, Mr. Ugochukwu Agwunobi, also known as Ugobest, who deals in sporting equipment, said that he offloaded goods worth N15 million into the warehouse two days before the incident. He regretted that all the goods were destroyed in the infernor.

“I lost over N15 million worth of goods to the fire,” he bemoaned. “When I got the information about the fire and rushed to the market, it was too late, and I could not remove anything. I don’t know the cause of the fire. We are calling on government, the state and national emergency management agencies and other kind-hearted individuals and groups to please come to our aid.

“All I have toiled for years was gone within some minutes. How will I feed my family and provide for their needs? Where will I get money to start all over again? How can I survive this? But I thank God that there is life, and I know that help will come my way. If no help comes my way, then I’m finished,” Agwunobi lamented.

Mr. Emeka Ugwumba, also known as Dada, who deals in diapers, said he lost over N8 million worth of goods to the fire.

“It was about 8pm. I had just got home when a security man called me on phone and told me that my shop was burning. I thought it was a joke because it was just about an hour after I left the place. I called another security man at the market who confirmed the incident.

“So, I had to rush back to the market, and lo and behold, by the time that I got there, all my goods that I had just stocked in the warehouse were on fire. You can imagine how diapers would burn. Nothing was saved from the place. It was the efforts of the water vendors that stopped the fire from spreading to the other shops, because they were the ones bringing water that was used to stop the fire from causing more havoc.

“The loss is too much. Where will I start? I need assistance from the government, corporate bodies and individuals. The situation in the country now is difficult. Things are very difficult. We are talking about feeding. It will not be easy to start again without getting some support. That is why we’re begging the government and kind-hearted Nigerians to help us,” he pleaded.

The caretaker of the burnt warehouse Chief Wilfred Ibe, who sympathized with the victims of the fire, said he travelled outside the state when he got the information about the fire incident. He said he quickly rushed back to notice that the shops were completely burnt.

“We are calling on government to come to their aid because the goods burnt here are worth about N50 million. We condemn the attitude of the fire fighting officials at the market who said they had no water when they were called. So what is the essence of the fact that these people were stationed at the market if they don’t always have water to put out fire?

“We commend the efforts of the Hausa youths who were bringing gallons of water with their pushing trucks that was used to put out the fire. I also commend the traders and youths who stormed the place in the night to fight the fire and put it out. But for their efforts, it would have been a total disaster for entire main market,” Ibe said.

Celebrities#ThrowbackThursdays: 2pac's Mother Afeni by ProsperChild(op): 1:41am On May 03, 2019
MAY 2, 2016 – Afeni Shakur, activist and mother of the late Hip Hop luminary 2Pac, passed away on May 2, 2016 after going into cardiac arrest at her Sausalito, California home. As they say, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree and her son was no different.
Born as Alice Faye Williams in Lumberton, North Carolina on January 10, 1947, Afeni changed her name when she was 21, with Afeni being the Yoruba word for “lover of people” and Shakur being Arabic for “thankful.” At the time, she’d made the move to Harlem where she ultimately joined the Black Panther Party.

Through her activism, Afeni eventually became a section leader of the Harlem chapter. In April 1968, she and 20 other members of the Black Panther Party were arrested after being accused of conspiring with other members of the same party to carry out a series of New York City bombings.
Pregnant with 2Pac and facing a 300-year prison sentence, Afeni opted to represent herself in court and earned all 21 of them an acquittal. ‘Pac was born a few months later in June 1971.
As the story goes, ‘Pac became one of Hip Hop’s most celebrated MCs during the 25 short years he was on this earth. On September 7, 1996, 2Pac was gunned down at a Las Vegas intersection while stopped at a red light. He died six days later at the Las Vegas Medical Center.
In the wake of his death, Afeni established the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation, vowing to carry on her famous son’s legacy. She was instrumental in setting up youth art programs and a Performing Arts Day Camp for kids between the ages of 12 to 18, although she sold it shortly before her death.

Afeni’s memorial , which was held at the House of the Lord Church in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene neighborhood, brought out approximately 150 mourners, including former Black Panthers.
A member of the Queens chapter, Pamela “TJ” Hanna, told the Daily News, “Tupac got his inspiration from his mother and her comrades. He was raised by a specific group of people who had revolutionary ideas. That’s what made him so special.”
Afeni was 69 at the time of her death.

Five-year-old girl, Lina Medina, became the world’s youngest mum after going through puberty aged THREE

The five-year-old's parents discovered she was pregnant after her abdomen began growing and she started having stomach pains
WHEN Lina Medina's stomach began growing, doctors were certain she was suffering from a large tumour - she was only five years old, after all.

But after running tests they found she was seven months pregnant and weeks later she gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

And 80 years on, Lina is still the youngest person in the world to have ever given birth.

She was born in a small village in the Andes in Peru to a poor family in 1933.

At the age of five, her mother noticed her growing abdomen after she complained about having stomach pains.

Just weeks later on May 14, 1939, she gave birth to a baby boy via Caesaerean as her young pelvis was deemed to small for a natural birth.

Her baby was born a healthy 6lbs and the infant was named Gerardo in honour of the doctor who delivered him.

When Gerardo was born , the doctor discovered that despite only being five years old, Lina had mature sexual organs and suffered from a a condition called precocious puberty.

Although the family have never spoken to the press, Lina's mother reportedly noticed that her daughter started having periods from the age of three.

After Lina gave birth, police arrested her father Tilburelo on suspicion of incest.

But he was later released by police due to a lack of evidence and to this day the true identity of the father has never been revealed.

Growing up, Gerardo always believed Lina was his sister but at the age of ten was told she was his mother.

Gerardo grew up healthy but died at the age of 40 in 1979 after suffering from a bone disease.

Lina is now 85 years old and still lives in Peru - however, she refused to ever sell her story as she wanted to live a normal life.

She married husband Raul in the 1970s, later giving birth to her second son at the age of 39.

Her case has often been thought of as a hoax, but doctors say they have x-rays and biopsies that prove she really was pregnant.

Lady Sees Dead Husband In Another City. A lady fainted when she saw her alleged previously deceased hubby, who passed away in 2017.

A lady fainted when she saw her alleged previously deceased hubby, who passed away in 2017. The lady fainted when she saw him during the Easter holidays. The woman could not believe that it was him; she then started following the guy.

Ghanaweb says the alleged dead husband was seen with his 25-year-old girlfriend. The male himself is 55-years-old. The wife followed the couple to a guest house that they were staying in. The woman asked the manager about the bookings of both the husband and his girlfriend. The manager acknowledged that the couple was staying in the guest house the evening before.

The woman dialled the authorities to come to the area so that her story can be verified. When the authorities got to the area they found the couple passed away. The manager says that the couple came to the guest house intoxicated and “started kissing as soon as we gave them the keys but don’t know what happened next.”

A police commander told an interviewee of a local radio station that they went to the area when they received the phone call from the lady. When they got to the area, the couple had already passed away. “We believe their death was caused by over-excitement but we are still investigating,” says the police commander. The story of the woman saying that the husband passed away two years ago has not been verified yet.

FRSC Corps Marshal Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi
Punch Editorial Board

Road safety enforcement is about to become deadly – extremely deadly – in Nigeria. Citing incessant attacks, the Federal Government might soon implement a law that will empower Federal Road Safety Corps officers to bear arms while controlling traffic. In the forefront of guns-for-road-safety is the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha. This is a panicky measure. It is akin to killing a fly with a sledgehammer. President Muhammadu Buhari should not be a party to it.

In his comments at the recent inauguration of some 74 operational vehicles for the FRSC, Mustapha hinged his guns-for-traffic-control drive on the spate of deaths being recorded in the ranks of road marshals in the course of duty. Corps Marshal Boboye Oyeyemi, states that on the average, 70 FRSC officers are killed annually. They are either shot by robbers or knocked down by reckless drivers. This is unfortunate, but these killings are symptomatic of the high level of carnage in Nigeria. In this, the police, soldiers, para-military and civilians are slaughtered without a concerted effort by the government to arrest the bloody descent into anarchy.

Nevertheless, road safety in Nigeria is in disarray. Drivers are notoriously aggressive, impatient and reckless, violating basic traffic laws at will. At any sign of a traffic jam, law and order break down completely. On the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway – and on a majority of the roads – motorists, including irresponsible siren-blaring public officials and VIPs with security escorts, drive against the traffic. This is an impunity not tolerated in any decent society.

Puzzlingly, the FRSC has become a toothless bulldog in tackling the bedlam. It lacks adequate equipment, technology and practical understanding to manage the scourge. Officers resort to crude methods: they ambush motorists at bad portions of roads or at corners to check vehicle documents. This exposes both the FRSC operatives and the motorists to danger. Repeatedly, a single breakdown leads to gridlock that lasts for hours.

The FRSC’s driving licence acquisition process exemplifies chaos, bureaucratic encumbrance and inefficiency. Three weeks ago in Ibadan, Oyo State, FRSC officers chased a traffic offender to his death, for refusing to stop at a checkpoint. Akeem Ibrahim, the commercial driver, died after he crashed into a ditch while fleeing from arrest. These are power-drunk traffic-control agents and if armed by the state, are likely to pull the trigger at the slightest provocation.

Therefore, Nigerians should be alarmed that FRSC officials would be licensed to use arms. Already, the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Immigration, Customs, State Security Service, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and Civil Defence officers, bear weapons. Too many unnecessary fatalities have occurred as a result.

In April alone, the police shot dead Kolade Johnson, 38, and Ada Ifeanyi, 20, in Lagos. Ifeanyi’s boyfriend was critically injured. Police brutality is so rampant that civil society organisations and the youth are campaigning for the scrapping of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad unit, following a spate of illegal arrests, extortion and torture of young people by SARS officers.

On Easter Monday, a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps official took the law into his own hands in Sabonline, Gombe State, ramming his car into a Boys’ Brigade procession after a minor disagreement. He crushed eight of them, before he and fellow occupant of the car were killed in retaliation. Last August, NSCDC officers needlessly killed two people in Akure, Ondo State. In 2012, the Goodluck Jonathan government approved arms for them on the pretext that they would fight the Boko Haram insurgency. Hindsight shows that civil enforcement agencies like the NSCDC and FRSC will abuse that onerous responsibility in a place like Nigeria.

Similarly, Customs officers, on the untenable excuse of fighting smugglers, infiltrate cities and shoot people dead. Within 24 hours in January 2018, Customs officers shot dead a bus conductor and shot a pregnant woman, an employee of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, as they chased rice smugglers in Lagos and Ogun states respectively. This is barbaric. Law enforcement is not a licence to slaughter innocent people.

In this atmosphere of heavy militarisation, it is insensitive to arm the officials of another civil state agency. Instead of guns, government should acquire technology for it. The funds earmarked for the acquisition of guns should be redirected to this ideal system. Many countries have adopted some automated traffic enforcement systems, notably systems that photograph vehicles that run red lights or exceed speed limits and issue traffic tickets. The FOI data in Britain state that since 2012, the number of councils monitoring motoring offences there with CCTV cameras has risen sharply. As of November 2015, councils in Britain had dedicated 768 active CCTV cameras solely for traffic offences. Without chasing around offenders, the system netted £182.46 million in fines for the councils over driving infringements in the three years to 2015.

At home, the Lagos State Government has pioneered the Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology, which detects expired vehicle documents without the physical interface by Vehicle Inspection Service agents. The FRSC should tilt in this direction, which makes it easier for offenders to be traced. The FRSC should reduce the stress associated with the acquisition of the driving licence.

Even without guns, the FRSC officers were once feared by Nigerian motorists because of their no-nonsense devotion to duty at inception. But the rot set in when it was made a federal agency. To make the FRSC attain its goals, the Federal Government should overhaul its recruitment and appointment structures, instilling sanity through merit. Globally, it has been proved that ICT offers a broad array of possible safety applications in road transport. What is needed is the development of a successful road safety strategy. And the strategy should be built not on arms and ammunition, but on reliable data and deployment of Information and Communications Technology. The FRSC should partner the police or any of the other armed security outfits when such need arises.

Ultimately, the government has to implement effective security measures nationwide, taming robbery, kidnapping, banditry, militancy and insurgency, thereby obviating the morbid desire for arms proliferation. Guns kill. Government should target a drastic reduction in the number of official guns and guns in the hands of non-state actors. On no account should it add to the frenzy.

Unbelievable! The True Story About The Cause Of Abacha Death Exposed, The Hand Shake That Might Have Saved Nigeria From The Tyrant

There has been different speculations of how late Gen Sani Abacha died, and the popular story that has been making the rounds is that he was poisoned with an apple from a very beautiful lady employed by his enemies to lure and kill him. However, some years back former Chief Security Officer of Gen Sani Abacha came out to give the true story of what really happened the day he died, No, it was not a poisoned apple, it was something else and it all began after a handshake.

Former Chief Security Officer, CSO, to the late Head of State, Gen Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, had come out in 2017 to expel claims that Abacha kicked the bucket in the wake of eating an apple from his concubines.

Describing how the previous Head of State kicked the bucket, Al-Mustapha said contrary to what people thought, the unexpected breakdown of the wellbeing arrangement of Abacha began on Sunday, seventh June, 1998 right from the Abuja International Airport, immediately after one of the white security agents or personnel who went with President Yasser Arafat of Palestine shook hands with him, Abacha.
Al-Mustapha said soon after the hand shake, he saw the adjustment in the face of the late Commander-in-Chief and that he had informed the Aide-de-Camp, Lt. Col. Abdallah, accordingly. He, be that as it may, exhorted that we keep a close watch on the Head of State.
He said, “Later in the evening of 8th June, 1998, around 6p.m; his doctor came around, administered an injection to stabilize him. He was advised to have a short rest. Happily, enough, by 9p.m; the Head of State was bouncing and receiving visitors until much later when General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, the then Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, came calling. He was fond of the Head of State. They were very good friends.

“They stayed and chatted together till about 3.35a.m. A friend of the house was with me in my office and as he was bidding me farewell, he came back to inform me that the FCT Minister, General Useni was out of the Head of State’s Guest House within the Villa. I then decided to inform the ADC and other security boys that I would be on my way home to prepare for the early morning event at the International Conference Centre.

“At about 5a.m; the security guards ran to my quarters to inform me that the Head of State was very unstable. At first, I thought it was a coup attempt. Immediately, I prepared myself fully for any eventuality. As an intelligence officer and the Chief Security Officer to the Head of State for that matter,

I devised a means of diverting the attention of the security boys from my escape route by asking my wife to continue chatting with them at the door – she was in the house while the boys were outside. From there, I got to the Guest House of the Head of State before them.

“When I got to the bedside of the Head of State, he was already gasping. Ordinarily, I could not just touch him. It was not allowed in our job. But under the situation on ground, I knelt close to him and shouted, ‘General Sani Abacha, Sir, please grant me permission to touch and carry you.’

“I again knocked at the stool beside the bed and shouted in the same manner, yet he did not respond. I then realized there was a serious danger. I immediately called the Head of State’s personal physician, Dr. Wali, who arrived the place under eight minutes from his house.

He immediately gave Oga – General Abacha –two doses of injection, one at the heart and another close to his neck.

Image result for sani abacha
“This did not work apparently as the Head of State had turned very cold. He then told me that the Head of State was dead and nothing could be done after all. I there and then asked the personal physician to remain with the dead body while I dashed home to be fully prepared for the problems that might arise from the incident.

Image result for sani abacha
“As soon as I informed my wife, she collapsed and burst into tears. I secured my house and then ran back. At that point, the Aide-de-Camp had been contacted by me and we decided that great caution must be taken in handling the grave situation.

“Again, I must reiterate that the issue of my boss dying on top of women was a great lie just as the insinuation that General Sani Abacha ate and died of poisoned apples was equally a wicked lie.”

PFAs Begin Data Recapturing Of 8.5m Pension Contributors
leadership.ng Apr 29, 2019 2:42 AM

The Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) have commenced data recapturing of 8.5 million pension contributors under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) across the country.

The aim of the exercise, according to findings, is to update the existing data of contributors, while also addressing a situation whereby a pension contributor has multiple Personal Identification Numbers (PINs).

The ongoing exercise, pension fund operators said, will allow PFAs reconcile the new information collected with the previous one to enhance the credibility of the new pension scheme.

Speaking at the Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria (PenOp) quarterly media briefing in Lagos last week, the president, PenOp, Mrs. Ronke Adedeji, said the ongoing data recapturing exercise is compulsory for all Retirement Savings Account (RSA) holders, urging contributors not to wait for their PFAs to notify them, but rather, willingly approach their pension administrators for the recapturing exercise.

According to Adedeji, who is also the managing director/CEO, Leadway Pensure Limited, “ People should go and update their data and should not wait for PFAs to come to them before they subject themselves to this exercise. The process has started, PFAs have invested so much into the project and operators are progressively approaching their customers to recapture their data.”

She stated that for now, there is no deadline, since the exercise is just starting but that in future, there could be a deadline, depending on the response of Pension contributors toward this exercise.

She also said that the data recapturing exercise is in the interest of contributors as well as the pension industry, noting that, operators are eager to capture pension accountholders as much as possible.

She added that individual PFA is already reaching out to their respective clients, with the motive to capture everybody under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

Similarly, the Vice President, PenOp, Mr. Akeeb Akinola, said operators have decided to use two approaches to the exercise. Akinola, who is also the managing director/CEO, Shell Nigeria Closed PFA, noted that one of the approach is to get updated data of some contributors through their Bank Verification Number (BVN),while operators focus more on clients whose data cannot be generated through BVN.

Officials Disclose Why Minimum Wage Implementation May Delay
President Muhammadu Buhari (image courtesy State House)
The implementation of the new National Minimum Wage signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari has been hit by some bottlenecks.

Officials of some state governments told PUNCH that they had yet to receive the documents containing the implementation guidelines from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, almost 10 days after the wage bill was signed into law.

The development is said to be hindering the commencement of negotiations between officials of state governments and the organised labour in the various states.

However, the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission had on Thursday said it was still awaiting the Presidency to release a copy of the Act to enable it to prepare the memo for state governments.

When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary, National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, Mr Emma Njoku, confirmed that a signed copy of the Act was still being expected by the commission.

He said once the new minimum wage act was received from the presidency, the commission would issue a circular for the implementation of the new minimum wage.

He said, “We are expecting the presidency to send us a signed version of the new minimum wage Act. As soon as we get it, we will issue the circular for its implementation.”

But, when contacted, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, told Saturday PUNCH that what was most important was that Buhari had directed that the implementation of the new wage should start from April.

When also contacted, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang, said, “I will not speak on it. If there is anything on their part (NSIWC), they should contact the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation or the appropriate agency of government.”

Nigerian man who spent 27 years in prison for crime he didn't commit, gets released
kemifilani.com Apr 25, 2019 9:32 PM

A 57-year-old year old Nigerian man who spent 27 years in prison for an offence he did not commit is now calling for the reform of the judicial system in Nigeria.

According to reports, the man identified as Clinton Kanu was arrested at the age of 30, and convicted of murder in 1992.

From then on, he was remanded in Port Harcourt Maximum Prisons in Rivers state.

His appeal against the lower court judgement dragged on slowly. But eventually he got to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

There, he got acquitted of the murder charge on the 5th April, 2019.

Clinton Kanu suffered for crime he did not commit for 27 years. But while in prison, he continued his education and obtained PhD as he claimed.

Now freed, Clinton Kanu is seeking a reform of the nation’s justice system and the prisons.

His position is from experience. He suffered innocently. Some of his former fellows in prisons are in similar situations. They are serving terms in prison for offences they did not commit.

Some of his relatives who were at the Port Harcourt Maximum Prisons to receive him expressed joy that he is reuniting with his family after twenty seven years.

They said the unlawful conviction of their brother brought frustration and anger to the family

CJN: Court asked to declare Justice Muhammad unfit, order new selection

By Ikechukwu Nnochiri
The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has okayed a fresh suit seeking to bar President Muhammadu Buhari from appointing the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Tanko Muhammad, to take over the leadership of the judiciary in a substantive capacity.

CJN
Ag. CJN, Mohammad
The suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/420/2019, is praying the court to declare that Justice Muhammad who is currently the most senior jurist at the Supreme Court, is unfit to replace the sacked CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen.

Specifically, the plaintiff, Chief Malcom Omirhobo, who is a human rights lawyer, is praying the court to declare that the Acting CJN, Justice Muhammad, having made himself available as a tool that was used in the violation of the Constitution, especially with regards to the “illegal” removal of the former CJN, is therefore not a proper and fit person to be recommended for appointment to head the judiciary.

It is the contention of the plaintiff that the Acting CJN conducted himself in a manner that reduced the confidence of the public in the integrity and impartiality of the Judiciary.

Cited as 1st to 7th Defendants in the suit were the National Judicial Council, NJC, the Federal Judicial Service Commission, FJSC, the Acting CJN, the Federal Government of Nigeria, President Buhari, the Attorney General of the Federation, and the National Assembly.

The plaintiff, among other things, urged the court to declare that the suspension and/or removal of a CJN from office, is a shared responsibility of the 1st Defendant (NJC), the 5th defendant (Buhari) and 7th Defendant (National Assembly).

He argued that President Buhari lacked the constitutional powers to unilaterally suspend and/or the removal a sitting CJN from office, as was done in the case of Onnoghen.

Besides, he prayed the court to declare that by combined interpretation sections 1(1 )(2), 231(4), 292(1)(a)(i)(b), 153(1)(i), 158(1) and paragraph 21 (a)(b) of Part 1 of the Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, “it is unlawful and undemocratic for the 4th and 5th Defendants (Federal Government and President Buhari), to declare the office of the CJN vacant on January 25, 2019 and consequently appoint and swear in the 3rd Defendant as the acting CJN”.

He, therefore, applied for a court order to restrain the National Assembly from confirming any appointment of Justice Muhammad as the substantive CJN.

Likewise, for, “An order, compelling the 2nd Defendant (FJSC), to select and the 1st Defendant (NJC), to recommend the most qualified Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria that is fit and proper, to the 5th Defendant, for appointment to office of the CJN, and for the confirmation of the 7th Defendant with a two-thirds majority vote”.

Aside praying the court to bar President Buhari from appointing Justice Muhammad as the substantive CJN, the Plaintiff, in a 65-paragraph affidavit he filed in support of the suit, stressed that unless restrained by the court, the Executive Arm of Government would continue to violate the extant provisions of the Constitution and sanctity of the judiciary.

Meantime, the suit which has already been assigned to Justice Iyang Ekwo for hearing is coming barely 72 hours after the NJC disclosed that it had approved the extension of Justice Muhammad’s tenure as the Acting CJN.

The Council had in a statement over the weekend, said it had at the end of the meeting is held on April 18, considered and approved President Buhari’s request for the extension of the appointment the Acting CJN for another three months.

DG NYSC Confirmed 31,800 Naira New NYSC Allowance
npowerdg.com Apr 23, 2019 11:40 AM
Many corpers are still doubtful about the news of the New increased allowance for NYSC corpers. While some are still arguing whether the new allowance payment will begin by April, some said they will only believe when they see the alert.

The DG have confirmed this adjustment via his official Twitter handle and the official NYSC Twitter handle also confirmed the 31,800 Naira increment and it may begin this month.

It is normal for some ex corpers to feel jealous and angry at this news of increment of allowance because they left at the moment when the increment was made. Same thing happened to 2010 batch A corpers in 2011, just when they were about to pass out from the National youth service, NYSC increased allowance from N9800 to N19,800.

This things are paramount, so therefore Corpers who may not stay to enjoy this new allowance should know that better things are ahead for them and for the new corpers who are coming in, enjoy while it last and don't forget to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition Entrepreneurship Program (SAP)

Nnamdi Kanu Explains The Difference Between WAEC and School Certificate, Tells Atiku What To DO To Defeat Buhari In Court
Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has stated the only way he believes Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP can reclaim the stolen mandate of the 2019 presidential election from President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Image result for Nnamdi Kanu Buhari Atiku
The Supreme leader, as he’s fondly called by his follower also shed light of the WAEC Csertifacte sgag plaguing the President, explaining the difference between First School Living Certificate and School Certificate.

According to him, the only option left for Atiku and the PDP in fighting the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, at the Election Petition Tribunal is to demand for a DNA test on President Muhammadu Buhari to prove that he is not also Nigerian but a Sudanese body-double identified as Jubril Al-Sudaniy.

He said once Atiku and the PDP play this card on the table, the Aso Rock cabal will have no choice than to return his stolen mandate because the truth will be out as to the true identity of President Buhari.

Recall that the All Progressives Congress, APC, had questioned Atiku’s eligibility to run for president on the premise that he was not Nigerian by birth but Cameroonian.

However, in a live broadcast on Biafra radio yesterday, Kanu said, “I will offer free legal advice to Atiku live on air in the hope that they will use it because it is obvious Atiku won the election and APC are deploying all instruments of coercion at the disposal of the Nigerian state to deny him his mandate. Between Atiku and the man occupying Aso Rock, only Atiku is a Nigerian, the other is Sudanese.

“Buhari died in 2017 and should not be contesting any election in 2019. There was a gentleman’s agreement amongst Fulani cabals of which Atiku is privy to, that the death of Buhari should not be made public lest IPOB take full advantage of it to break Biafra away from Nigeria.

“Atiku played along believing that Jubril and APC won’t put up much resistance when it comes to presidential elections. He was wrong. The cabals have now refused to give up power. Jubril is their poster boy.

Image result for Nnamdi Kanu Buhari Atiku
“APC is counting on the fact that Atiku won’t fight dirty in public because that means authenticating the claims of IPOB and confirming what world leaders already know, that Buhari is dead. The only people who have refused to believe it are Nigerians.

“The only option left for Atiku is to remind the tribunal that he is an authentic Nigerian citizen whereas Jubril is not. No part of Sudan ever joined Nigeria as a result of referendum, at least not yet. Atiku should demand for a DNA test result to ascertain if Jubril is Buhari or not.

“Out of the two contestants, one is a Nigerian by choice not birth but the other is neither a Nigeria by birth nor by choice.

“Atiku became a Nigerian by referendum at the age of 15 but Jubril in his mid 50’s is not a Nigerian, does not hold Nigerian citizenship and is from Sudan. What Abba Kyari and his gang have done is worse than a military coup. Their role in inflicting hardship on long-suffering people of Nigeria and by extension Biafrans, is unpardonable. They should be tried for high crimes and misdemeanours. They are supposed to be stoned according to Sharia Law.”

Image result for Nnamdi Kanu Buhari Atiku
Kanu also said another issue which Atiku’s legal team should zero in on is the issue of WAEC certificate.

“Like a place of birth, WAEC certificate is a cardinal requirement as stipulated in the constitution. The headline ‘INEC says they are satisfied with Buhari’s certificate’ is utter nonsense because INEC is not an examination body. The only authority capable of authenticating Jubril/Buhari’s certificate is WAEC and they are still in existence.

“Is INEC WAEC? The answer is a capital NO. Only WAEC can respond to the issue of WAEC result not INEC. The examination body is there, still existing. If PDP bigwigs have any brain, they will subpoena WAEC boss to testify under oath. That will send Jubril scurrying back to Khartoum Sudan. But PDP are cowards without the spine to fight a tyrannical impostor. To finish APC is easy but PDP lack the balls.

“Should WAEC boss lie under oath, he or she will be tried for perjury. This is elementary law. Should they forge a result on a paper that has been aged artificially, there is carbon dating technology that will tell us when the paper was made. This is a fool proof process. Buhari before his death had no certificate, Jubril has no certificate and the section 131 (4) of the Nigerian constitution is quite explicit on this, no WAEC certificate no presidency. What is Atiku and his team waiting for?

“The issue of WAEC result can be dealt with now at this tribunal, not in a Nigerian court of law with an APC corrupt judge. If they won’t allow WAEC boss to be called as a witness, get a sworn testimony under oath and Jubril will be a goner.

“Abba Kyari and his cohorts who brought in Jubril to replace Buhari failed to reckon with the fact that no two individuals, even so-called identical twins, are exactly the same in every way.

“It will be very foolish of PDP not to challenge this brazen insult against Atiku by insisting on a DNA test for Jubril. Should Jubril submit himself to a DNA test and confirms he is Buhari, I will drop the agitation for Biafra. That is how certain I am.

PoliticsAtiku To Apc: I Am A Nigerian By Birth. by ProsperChild(op): 4:42am On Apr 22, 2019
Former Vice President and candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the last presidential election, Atiku Abubakar has faulted claim by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that he is not a Nigerian by birth and was not qualified to seek to occupy the office of the President.
Atiku said he is a Nigerian by birth and was born on 25th November, 1946 in Jada, Adamawa State by Nigerian parents and he is, therefore, a citizen of Nigeria by Birth.
He said this in a joint reply he filed with the PDP in reaction to the response filed by the APC against their petition before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) sitting at the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
Atiku, who gave details his early life, also spoke about his working life and political career in Nigeria to support his claim that he is and has always been a Nigerian by birth.
In the reply Atiku and the PDP argued that it was late in the day for the APC to query his qualification for the election, having not done so at the pre-election stage.

They said: “Contrary to the allegations contained in paragraphs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the 3rd respondent’s (APC’s) reply, the petitioners state that the 1st petitioner (Atiku) is a citizen of Nigeria by birth and thus qualified to vote and be voted for and returned in the election to the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, held on Saturday 23rd February, 2019 going by the relevant provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
“The 1st petitioner was born on 25th November, 1946 in Jada, Adamawa State by Nigerian parents and he is, therefore, a citizen of Nigeria by birth.
“The 1st petitioner’s father, Garba Atiku Abdulkadir was a Nigerian by Birth who hailed from Wumo in present-day Sokoto State while the mother, Aisha Kande was also a Nigerian who hailed from Dutse in present-day Jigawa State.
“The parents of the 1st Petitioner are both Fulani, a community/tribe indigenous to Nigeria.
“The birth of the 1st petitioner in Jada, in present-day Adamawa State of Nigeria was occasioned by the movement of his paternal grandfather called Atiku who was an itinerant trader, from Wumo in present-day Sokoto State to Jada in the company of his friend, Ardo Usman.
“That in Jada, Atiku, the grandfather of the 1st petitioner gave birth to Garba who in tum gave birth to the 1st Petitioner and named him after his own father Atiku.
“The 1st petitioner’s mother, Aisha Kande was the grand-daughter of Inuwa Dutse who came to Jada as an itinerant trader too from Dutse in present-day Jigawa State.
“All averments concerning Germany, British Cameroons, League of Nations and Plebiscite are false and misleading in relation to the 1st Petitioner and therefore completely irrelevant more so that the 1st Petitioner is a Nigerian by birth within the contemplation of the Constitution of the Federal Republic ofNigeria, 1999 (as amended).
“The averments in the aforesaid paragraphs are indeed fabricated, contrived, made in bad faith and designed to embarrass the 1st petitioner.”
The APC had, in its response to the petition by Atiku and the PDP argued that, by virtue of his not being a Nigerian by birth, Atiku was not qualified to have contested the last presidential election.
It contended that by Section 131(a) of the Constitution, a person must be a citizen of Nigeria by birth to be qualified to contest for the office of the President of the country. It noted that Atiku was born on November 25, 1946 in Jada, now Adamawa State, then in Northern Cameroon, “and is, therefore, a citizen of Cameroon.”
The APC said Atiku “had no right to be voted for and returned in the election to the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria held on Saturday 23th February, 2019 having regard to the clear provision of Section 131(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFRN) 1999 as amended, which unequivocally stipulates inter alia, that for a person to be qualified for election to the office of President, he must be a citizen of Nigeria by birth.”
Atiku and the PDP, in their reply, also faulted the APC’s claim that the Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) did not transmit the results of the election by electronic means, by using a server.
Continue in page 2
They said: “In reaction to paragraph 29 of the 3rd respondent’s reply, the Petitioners aver that the data and scores in the 1st Respondent’s Server were as transmitted by the 1st Respondent’s officials and those scores are valid, and legitimate.
“The conduct of elections and declarations of results by the 1st respondent is the subject of the present petition.
“Contrary to paragraphs 31 and 34 of the 3rd respondent’s reply, the petitioners contend that the figures and scores in paragraph 22 of the petition are neither false nor contrived or concocted by the petitioners.
“Indeed, the ad-hoc staff and officials of the 1st respondent in obedience to the training/instruction by the 1st respondent (INEC) transmitted the scores they got from the polling units to the 1st respondent’s server.
Atiku and the PDP, in their reply further argued that contrary to contention by the APC, the election tribunal has the jurisdiction to entertain the issues they raised about President Muhammadu Buhari’s educational qualification.
They said: “The issue of the qualification of the 2nd respondent (Buhari) to contest the presidential election under scrutiny, which is at the epicentre of the Petitioners’ grounds (d) and (e) of paragraph 15 of the Petition is not only a pre-election matter but also a post-election matter within the relevant provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) as well as the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) and therefore competent and not statute-barred.
“The issue of non-qualification of the 2nd respondent is fundamental and can therefore not be waived as erroneously alleged by the 3rd respondent.”
They added that their petition is competent and meritorious and the return of the 2nd respondent (Buhari) by the 1st respondent (INEC) “is undue and wrongful.”
The petitioner argued that “the 3rd respondent’s reply does not answer the points of substance in the petition but same is full of extraneous facts, contradictory, diversionary, evasive, speculative and vague assertions.”

Osun to recruit 2,000 food vendors for school pupils
Osun State Government is set to employ 2,000 food vendors, in a bid to enhance the Elementary School Feeding and Health Programme also known as O’MEALS.

The vendors will join others in the preparation of meals for the public school pupils across the state.

Programme Officer of the scheme, Mrs Olaniyan Kehinde, who stated this during an interaction with applicants at the O’MEALs secretariat complex in Osogbo, the state capital, commended the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for opening another window of employment opportunity for women in the state.

Olaniyan, who lauded the efforts of the administration for sustaining the scheme, said the employment opportunity will further help to empower women.

She acknowledged the administration of Governor Oyetola for demonstrating genuine commitment to women and children development since assumption of office.

Olaniyan noted that the scheme had helped to banish the scourge of unemployment and poverty among women since it was founded.

She described the success recorded since the establishment of the scheme as unprecedented particularly in alleviating poverty in the society.

“Governor Oyetola has approved the recruitment of another set of food vendors (caterers) who will be preparing nutritious meals for our pupils in every school day across the state.

“As we all know, this scheme is aimed to banish poverty, unemployment, hunger and increase primary school enrolment as well as encourage local and state-wide economic growth.

“The recruitment exercise was conceived to empower unemployed women in the state and to eradicate poverty, and hunger.

“This initiative will to complement the efforts already put in place as the new vendors will be trained and exposed to skills that can avail them the opportunities of being self-independent and self-reliant.

“We are planning to recruit 2,000 fresh set of caterers while some of the old ones will be relieved.

“So, we are going into synergy with the new beneficiaries with some of the old ones who have been found worthy in the course of discharging their duties.”

I commend President @MBuhari for signing the Minimum Wage Repeal and Reenactment Bill into law. He had no need to do it, since the elections are over (but the court case is NOT), but he did it all the same. That is an act of good leadership on his part and I appreciate him for it

Fuel will continue to sell for N145 per litre –NNPC

Despite increased landing cost of petroleum products, Premium Motor Spirit will continue to sell at N145 per litre, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has said.

In a telephone interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Wednesday, NNPC Group General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr Ndu Ughamadu, said that the corporation would continue to bear the cost of under-recovery of petrol through other sources.

Ughamadu said, “The Federal Government has made it clear; petrol will continue to sell at N145 per litre. NNPC is not operating subsidy. What we have done is under-recovery of which we make up from other sources.

“Yes, the under-recovery will continue. The corporation plays many roles in the country. We are an importer of the last resort where others refuse to import.

“We equally operate in a social regime to make sure that the system gets wet with products because if the corporation is not doing that as part of its responsibilities, you can imagine what the system will look like.”

Meanwhile, the NNPC on Wednesday denied that it had spent $22bn on the Brass LNG project.

In a statement made available to our correspondent in Abuja, Ughamadu said that the corporation had spent $1.2bn on the project.

Ughamadu said that the corporation made the clarification at the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating the expenditure.

The statement quoted the General Manager, New LNG Venture of the NNPC, Ahmed Dikko, as telling the committee that the $1.2bn was about the total money spent so far by the various shareholders to get the project to its current stage.

Dikko said, “This sum included the cost of acquiring project land, which covers approximately 606 hectares, cost of early works contract, Front End Engineering Design, Pre-FEED Concept Evaluation Study, Project Environmental Impact Assessment comprising both onshore and offshore studies, dredging, EIA activities and ambient noise survey, displacement and settlement action plan, cultural site heritage study, staff and administration project cost from inception, and sustainable development cost, among others.”

Mass sack looms in Osun over certificate scandal
dailytrust.com.ng Apr 19, 2019 8:10 PM

769 workers in Osun State risk sack as they have been accused of getting their jobs with questionable certificates.

The government spokesman, Mr Adelani Baderinwa in a statement in Osogbo on Friday evening said a firm, The Captain Consultants, engaged by the state Government five years ago to verify the result and other necessary documents of the workers in the state has completed its assignment and submitted its report.

Baderinwa said the screening of the workers’ credentials came on the heel of controversies and reported forged results with which some of the workers allegedly secured job in the Osun civil service.

His words “At the commencement of the screening exercise in 2015, all the civil servants in the state were asked to submit their credentials in their personal files, from which the Captain Consultants firm got access to their results and begun the verification exercise.

“Each and every result submitted by the workers were verified in their various secondary schools, post secondary schools and tertiary institutions.

“Some of the workers who were suspected to have forged/fake results were summoned by the firm and asked to present original results or go to their various schools for either attestation or re-confirmation.

“The firm, on its own approached the schools for ‘confirmation of results’ of the affected workers for which they were obliged.

Baderinwa said the verification process uncovered serious certificate infraction on the part of some of the workers across Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Government.

He said “In some cases, as discovered in the verification process, some of the affected workers used another person’s result, while some forged their secondary and post secondary schools results to secure job in the civil service.”
Christianity EtcThe Most Frightening Verse In The Bible (at Least For Me) by ProsperChild(op): 5:25am On Apr 20, 2019
I can still recall a conversation I had many years ago while I was still on the faculty at Westminster Theological Seminary. A recent graduate came back to visit the campus and felt strongly that he needed to let me know, in no uncertain terms, how I had failed him in his preparation for gospel ministry.
He was a pastor now, for several months, and was called by God to “contend for the gospel,” which is sort of code for pursuing debate with fellow pastors, elders, and congregants to make sure the appropriate level of precise theological orthodoxy was being maintained.
My own teaching style and theology were not oriented toward training polemicists. I was more interested in exploring the Bible with my students and encouraging them to let the Lord surprise them through a careful and alert reading of the text–wherever that would lead.
You can see where this was going. My style was the very problem for this student, who took the time to seek me out and let me know. He became quite belligerent–even a tad condescending. I asked him to consider whether the Bible might have a thing or two to say about whether contending and debating without ceasing was the best way to spend one’s life in service to God’s people.
“What about love?” I asked.
Originally posted at PeteEnns.com.
“Love!?” he answered, “That’s what the liberals told Machen” [J. Gresham Machen founded Westminster Seminary in 1929 in opposition to liberal influence, and he was quite contentious in doing so, which has served as a model of ministry for many in that tradition.]

That brief exchange has come to mind a lot over the years. To live in a near constant state of theological vigilance, ready to strike down a brother or sister for (perceived) theological failings seemed not only a colossal waste of the one life God has given us, but at odds with what the Bible makes a big deal of.
Which brings me to my most frightening verse – actually two – 1 John 4:7-8:
Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.
This verse frightens me because when I think of that student it does not take long before I realize that I am looking at myself. I am prone to fall into the same patterns of this young, deeply troubled, student I last saw a dozen or so years ago. Hey, I’m a type A, German, analytical, intellectual guy. Bow before me as I conquer the universe
This verse is followed by another in v. 12 that drives the point home even further:
No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us.
I am tempted to insert “but” after the semi-colon, even though there isn’t one in the Greek. Still, I think the same point holds either way:
The closest we ever get to seeing God is when we love one another, for that is when God lives in us.
I know the Bible sometimes makes absolute-sounding statements when something less threatening would do. I’m just not sure if this is one of those places. This actually sounds pretty foundational, especially since it’s hardly a minor theme in the New Testament.
Here’s what’s frightening:
What if this is one of those verses we are supposed to take literally?
And what happens if we do not love one another?

EducationThis Is the Best Approach To Graduate With FIRST-CLASS by ProsperChild(op): 5:46am On Apr 19, 2019
Every serious student who gains admission into a tertiary institution has the aim of graduating with a first class distinction or degree. However, the reality is that the number of first class students who graduate each year is less than the number of students who aimed to graduate with first class from the first day. Earning a First Class Honours is, invariably, a by-product of self-application. No one is pre-programmed to make a third class, or a pass, provided the individual was qualified in the first instance to be admitted into the university (even otherwise).
The class of degree a student earns in the university is also a function of a point scoring system. That is what is called the Cumulative Grade Point Average, (CGPA) which is a weighted scoring system with maximum of 5.0 in most tertiary institutions in Nigeria. You make a first class when you score a CGPA of 4.50 and above upon graduation.
Top 8 Rules of First Class Students
Contents [ show]
Let’s take a look at some important rules which if diligently followed will enable every student who aspires to make a first class in school to do so with ease.
Rule 1: Know Thyself
The problem with many students is they try to “copy-cat”. While it is good to learn from the method of another high performer, it is important to know how to adapt it uniquely. Some students don’t need to read for more than 3 hours a day before they pass, indeed do excellently well and top the class. Some must read for at least 7 hours a day. There are first class students who watched football and participated actively in campus religious activities while they were in school. Some even get involved in departmental politics.
Its about knowing one’s self. Some people have a better foundation or secondary school background than others. At the end of the day, for most first class students, reading the notes while still fresh after lectures, and not waiting till they accumulate, is a common determinant of success.
Rule 2: Know Thy Teacher Too
Knowing how to approach a question in an examination is an art itself. How do you organize your answers? It goes beyond just picking the answer script and writing down what you think is the answer. You need to know what the lecturer wants. Does he want a “lengthy story”? Or does he wants it “short and snappy”? You may have a clue into this through your seniors who had taken the course earlier. You will also get some insight into the personalities of your lecturers by paying attention during lectures. First class students study not only the course, but the course-taker.
Rule 3: Get Serious From the First Day
It is common for students to get carried away with the euphoria of gaining admission into higher institution that they forget the major reason why they are in school. It is essential to start building your grade point average from the first day so as to avoid playing catch up afterwards. The first semester of the first year in school is usually the easiest academically so its best you take advantage of it. This is the semester where many smart students set themselves up for a very good start.
Rule 4: Attend Lectures
Attending lectures may not be so important to some students during their first year in school because many of the courses are based on topics they have already learnt previously in their secondary schools. For some students, attending lectures in first year is not so enticing because of the large number of students who usually fill the lecture rooms.
However, after your first year, attending lectures must and should be a priority, this is to enable you mark attendance in class which may be the difference between an A or a B, pick salient points which the lecturer may mention in class and to pick important instructions and tips which many lecturers like to give in class. In fact, some of these tips mentioned in class might be deliberately left out in lecture hand-outs dished out by some lecturers to encourage those who come to class.
Rule 5: Begin Studying for Tests and Exams Early
Between academics and your social life, time is not something you will have in ample quantity throughout your stay in the university. One cardinal act you should always make time for is studying early for exams. There’s nothing worse than leaving all of the studying for the night before an important test or exam. The stress causes you to panic and you won’t perform as well as you normally would if you had studied early enough. Studying a little bit during the semester will not only make you better prepared but will also remove most of the stress you would have had if you left your studying for the last minute.
Early exam studying allows a student to identify weak spots in their understanding and to prioritize their studying accordingly. Just imagine studying until the early morning of the day of your exam only to find you’ve completely ignored a section that you have little or no understanding in. Don’t let that happen because it is a recipe for academic disaster.
Use your time wisely in between classes as well as before and after school. There are many opportunities to sneak in some studying or homework that many students either don’t realize or just don’t use. Some students study on the keke or bus during the ride to and from school. If someone calls you a book-worm, simple tell him or her that you like to think of yourself as someone who prefers to handle matters productively and expeditiously rather than impulsively.
There are still students who combine the time waiting for a lecture to begin with their study time. They revise their notes instead of pinging or chatting endlessly with friends. You get a frequent workout for your brain and prep it for exams and assessments when you’re constantly engaging with your study materials. Always keep your notes handy and use any spare time for simple review to make sure you’re on top of the material. All of those small moments you fill with studying will really add up to something solid eventually. You’ll discover that you will require less studying when exam time arrives. And that will be a huge relief.
Rule 6: Obtain Old Exams Question Papers and Assignments
Make attempts to get past question papers from your senior colleagues to procure a satisfactory idea of what subject matter the instructors are most likely to test you on. They are even more useful because you can attempt the exam or assignment problems as a test of your knowledge, identifying weak areas that you must take into further consideration for re-study.
There are many examples and scenarios where students paid attention to past exam questions and were given exactly the same question or something very similar in their own exams. Not every lecturer repeats past questions, but many set questions similar to what they’ve given students two or more years ago.
One common tactic many students use for science laboratory classes is to find a graded laboratory notebook from a previous year. Laboratory work is notoriously difficult with respect to time limitation and what is expected from a student’s lab report. Having a format to follow along with is a phenomenal help. Knowing where to avoid mistakes is fundamental as well.
Rule 7: Have an Optimistic Mentality
Some students die many times before their academic death. How can a student gain admission into a school and the first thing he or she hears is “you can never make a first class”, “they won’t give you a first class” or “this department is very hard”? Well, don’t believe any of that. Students still graduate with first class even in the so-called “hard” departments.
Many students are defeated by a pessimistic mentality. How can you go to battle with a defeatist mentality and expect to win? Many first class students defy odds and prove the “messengers of doom” wrong by pursuing their target optimistically and pragmatically. As a student who wants to be outstanding, what you should pay attention to are stories of that Lagbaja that shattered school records, or the Saka that effortlessly broke any record breakable.
There will be such stories to motivate you. Even it there aren’t, believe that you can be the first to break the record. Don’t give your listening ears to some tale by moonlight about a sadist lecturer who denies everybody first class. This is another very vital rule for first class students. They don’t believe cock and bull stories. Rather, they craft their own stories by first believing they can.
Rule 8: Put God First:
Ultimately, God is very important. Always remember that God is the owner of all knowledge and gives only to those who he wishes to. Learn to always put God first before every lecture, test or exam. He is the only one who can see you through. The above are simply helpful human factors.
These are just the most important attributes of first class students based o There are more factors to be considered which may have been omitted. Feel free to share your opinion in the comment section.
All the best!

NUC approves new state university for Imo
thenationonlineng.net Apr 18, 2019 7:11 PM
IMO STATE NEW UNIVERSITY
The National Universities Commission has granted provisional approval for the establishment of a new state-owned university of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences in Imo state.

This approval takes the number of state -owned universities to 49 and 171 universities in the country.

NUC’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, presented the certificate establishing the university to the state governor, Rochas Okorocha, on Thursday, in Abuja.

Rasheed said the approval makes this the second state-owned university in Imo.

He said the state met all the requirements of the commission for the establishment of a university, hence the presentation of certificate to the governor.

The executive secretary said: “In line with our rules we, shall recognise this institution because it has fulfilled all the requirements for establishing a university by a state. It is going to be a university fully owned by Imo State government.

“The Imo State House of Assembly has enacted a law in respect of the university; the governor of the state has also assented to the law.

“Of all the six universities proposed to establish by Imo State government, the university of Agriculture and environmental sciences has all its strategic documents ready and it’s presented to us, with effect from April 3rd.

“NUC recognised the existence of the University of Agriculture and Environmental Studies as the second State owned University and the 49th university established by state governments as well as 171st university in the Nigerian university system.”

Okorocha said his administration decided to establish another state university because of the need to expand access to tertiary education.

The governor, who identified Infrastructure as key challenge in setting up a university, said the state government had made provision for adequate infrastructure for the take-off of the university.

He said the state government was partnering with the private sector to help sustain the institution.

Okorocha said: “We have over 600,000 students through jamb seeking admission into universities based on this Imo government is building more universities to cushion this challenge and provide more universities for our students to attend.

“We already ensure Infrastructure is in place and then it became easy to partner with private investors. Funding is possible but most important is Infrastructure.”

He said that the university will focus on environmental sciences. “It is a specified purposed focus university it’s more of environmental sciences. The university will enable people to be a boss of themselves,” he added.
