Abeg what's so difficult for Nigeria farmers to get a better seed from wherever they can, plant here, parboil and give us good rice? Everything na rocket science for naija.

Imagine using local rice to make fried rice, lol

In Nigeria the cost of producing rice is expensive because we depend on physical labour rather than tractors. it would take 1 tractor to harvest rice in an acre of land within 1 hour 30 minutes, while it would take about 15 labourers to do same thing.

Agriculture / New Customers Needed For A Start Up Farm(eggs, broiler Chicken, Rabbit) by Prosperousman(m): 6:26pm On Feb 17, 2019
Good day ladies and gentlemen

I'm setting up a farm in Ibadan that would be fully functional by June 2019. I want to start early to build a customer database.

broiler chicken: you can order for live broilers according to your taste(quantity, weight) , or in freshly processed form. I can also deliver once a business relationship has been established.

Eggs: I would also venture into egg production, you can order for your eggs as well.

Rabbit: you can order for rabbits for breeding purposes or as meat.

I would be pleased to hear from interested prospective customers. the farm may start sooner as expected if my customer database is active.

thanks.

Agriculture / Re: 22 Weeks Old Layers Not Laying Yet by Prosperousman(m): 10:59pm On Dec 12, 2018
from your picture, those layers have poor body development. hope you are not rationing feed for them? at that age, they should not be consuming less than 92 gram per bird that's approximately 8kg per day for the 86 birds. they wont lay unless they attain the right weight of between 1.2 - 1.5kg per bird. until their comb and wattle is developed, they wont lay.

Thanks. As have said that some days ago, I have two little cute bunny which has been on elephant grass and little grain as chicken feeds. But immediately I read your write up, I changed them to that leaf in your forth picture and water leaf which they have been taking mostly and I saw that their water intake have reduced. Unfortunately, I lost my pretty which is the female one on Monday overnight. No signs of distress, they were both all lovey dovey throughout the day and night. Just met her lifeless body in the room that serve them. Don't know what could have happened. So painful as we have come to love them and see them as pets. After Google Search likely reasons, I came to the conclusion that it may have been GI stasis -gastrointestinal problem due to some food they re taking or must have takened. Any idea of what might have caused this and likely solution as I don't want to lose Chiefbunny too? Urgent answer will be appreciated. Thanks.

I've had similar case in the past. it can be attributed to the following;

food poisoning: when rabbits are fed with grasses and shrubs, ensure they are free from contaminants such as whitish mucour like stain( which houses spiders and some other insects).
late feeding: don't allow the rabbit to get too hungry before feeding them, they will rush the feed which will later disrupt their Gastro intestinal tract. rabbits have a habit of sniffing feeds before eating to be able to identify the bad ones, but if they get too hungry, they may eat it up without checking properly.

feeding system: care should be taken when changing rabbits diet, most especially from leaves to grains and vice versa. the new feeds should be introduced gradually with the old feeding method so the rabbits would adapt.

Please I have some bunny, can I feed them with elephant grass and lemon grass?

they can eat elephant grass but not in much quantity to avoid bloat ( protruding of the stomach). I've not really tried lemon grass on rabbits.

What's the weight difference feeding purely grass vs grains?

the rabbits will definitely grow bigger and faster when fed with grains. grass can be given as supplements.

from my experience, feeding rabbits purely on grasses and shrubs reduces disease infestation and use of antibiotics. but the rate of growth is lower than those placed on grain diet

Nairalanders,
I want to start a hatchery business and I need your advice. I am importing the machine and its fully electrical and automatic. As for power, light in my place is super stable at least 23 hours per day if not 24, hours. We hardly have power loss. Please I don't want to run at loss so I need comments and advice.
Sir, you need to go for hatching training or employ a trained staff to handle the machines.
for you to break even, should be running at least 80% of your machine capacity.
hope you know a mini hatchery consists of a cold room, setting machine, hatching machine, cooling machine and borehole as a water source.
before you start, have a standby generator and do proper marketing to ensure you have steady supply of hatchable eggs.
