EducationRe: Why Do People Hate/fear Mathematics? by pssword: 1:00pm On Feb 27, 2012
I think it depends on how your mind is wired. Some have a talent for it others have to suffer through it. Just like people have a talent for music (writing, composing etc, ) and others struggle with it. Others have talent for writing amazing pros others can't write to save their lives, It depends on the blessing you get from above most times,

EducationRe: What Is The Difference Between A Bsc(ed) In Electrical Technology And Bsc In Electrical Engineering by pssword: 3:14pm On Feb 16, 2012
Is this a trick question? Unless of course there is a dependency on the university where the degrees are thought.
In normal universities there is generally no premise for comparing the 2 degrees. One is an education degree with a specialism in electrical tech. The other is a full blown engineering degree with correct heavy duty maths and physics - not beans,

Bad form from the presidency anyway you slice it.
BusinessRe: Segun Aganga Attacked For Helping Indian Car Manufacturers by pssword: 4:43pm On Sep 15, 2011
Instead of this anti-entrepreneur policies, won't it be better for the government to invest in the company, eg buy 10 to 20%, and help to promote it.
After the company has grown they can divest from the company if they need to.
Job creation should be central to any government policies - especially if it can be accomplished by indigenous entrepreneurs. This keeps the capital in the country instead of the creating a funnel for capital flight. From where I'm sitting, Aganga's policies looks un-patriot.

@OP, be careful. This could be the beginning of something quite bad. But you need facts or any information before you have this so called heart felt conversation. Have you been to her church, do you know what they preach there? Does she have friends she confides in, who are they and what are they upto generally. I’m not saying spy on her, but you need arm yourself with as much information as possible about this sudden change before you engage her in any meaningful conversation. If talking fails, it might be time to engage her parents. It is your house and you need to take control, one way or another. Good luck.

CultureRe: Why Are People Buried Late After Death? by pssword: 2:20pm On Sep 01, 2011
I think this has to do with having a befitting burial. To celebrate the life of the lost one and to give all the family and friends an opportunity to say goodbye. Especially if the lost one was an important person etc, an anyhow funeral looks bad on the family. As suggested previously, this involves planning, invitations, financials, organisations, catering, in some cases party etc. I'm not sure if this is uniquely African or Nigerian - but it's certainly quite common.

PhonesRe: Google Buys Motorola Mobility For $12.5b by pssword: 10:56pm On Aug 15, 2011
@all4naija

I don't think it's something of that nature. I can see Android is already a business of Google and Motorola mobility is a single brand having different hardwares which Google have authority of ownership. There is nothing to loose at all as the world we live is propel by innovations and that is what it is going to do with the phones - it have a stake in Android already and the apps also. So, it belongs to owner stake, Google's and it stakeholders, PERIOD!

I doubt you get the gist of what I'm talking about, if you did you would not be so "period"!. What you are writing about is exactly what Nokia thought when it bought Symbian - now see where there are. Try doing some research and you will surprise yourself,
PoliticsRe: Communism In Nigeria: Why Not? by pssword: 8:25pm On Aug 15, 2011
The poster is funny. We have a situation where former bastions of communism are abandoning the cause and embracing capitalism in one form or another and you want Nigeria to become a communist state? Na wa for you o. The model, although lofty in principle, is not a sustainable economic or social model. How can you work hard and suffer while another person chills at home and you end up the with the same economics. How does this encourage entrepreneurship ( the life blood of any economy) or desire to improve oneself. I can understand having a welfare state to assist the disadvantaged - but communism ke? This died a long time ago.
PhonesRe: Google Buys Motorola Mobility For $12.5b by pssword: 8:09pm On Aug 15, 2011
Is this not a risk by Google. This is similar to what Nokia did with Symbian. Nokia bought Symbian and all the stakeholder (Ericsson, Samsong, Docomo, Motorola etc, ) simply decamped to use their won OS for awhile. Having different stakeholders, hence different ideas, drove innovation in many directions like the pen based OSs etc ( the forbear of the touch screen). This made Symbian the no 1 OS for smart phones in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Interestingly once Nokia bought Symbian, all these stakeholders moved away from Symbian to android because there was no politics of a big player having overbearing influence on the direction of the platform. This migration to Android, and hence technical contributions, by big players has made it one of, if not, the fastest growing mobile platform in the market place today. Nokia has payed the price of buying Symbian and becoming overbearing making the platform one directional and in time obsolete. I think this is a risk for Google, the company has to do a lot of shmoozing of the other players using the OS and learn the lessons of Nokia or it will end up like Symbian - dead for all intent and purposes.

@bjcisse  and Raphoad,

I planned to ignore the thread but you two have succeeded in bringing me back. I think it is abundantly clear that you had nothing to say or contribute but just felt like writing. That Ok, it's a free world and the net is full of all sorts. A typically ignorant response, no understanding of the subject matter just being impressed by BS spouted out with big big grammer. Go back and read my post and point out to me what is wrong with? Some of Ivvie was writing was scientifically incorrect and I have pointed this out to him. If there is anything that I have written that is factually incorrect pls highlight it, instead this vacuous prattle excuse of a post!!

@Ivvie

1) The equation is still meaningless even with 1-2 under the summation sign. 1 to 2 of what?

2) Midas difinition is correct and is the standard definition of the 2nd law of thermo. Even if it comes from wiki. As you may be well aware it is a universal law, not only used in Heat transfer calculations, but also in industrial chemistry, biology, etc, The form described by Midas is the universal description.

3)
ηT = (1 – (TL/TH) * 100
as TL = 0.  It is impossible to reach 100% efficiency because heat rejected must be 0.  You will need a PMM2 to convert 100% of heat to work.
As TL tends towards 0: TL->0, we should have:

( 1 - (0/TH))* 100,  right. Now whatever yu divide zero by is zero or am I wrong? As in zero oranges dived by 50 oranges is no oranges, abi? so what does that leave us:

( 1 - 0)* 100 = 1*100 = 100%

You wrote:

This is the restriction placed on the second law of thermodynamics.  As it devotes itself to a fixed system, it develops inability to do other work.  TH and TL is temp high and temp low.  TL is usually between 270K to 320K for common cycle.
As you can see the from the equation above as TL tends towards zero 100% is possible. Also, the statement in quote has no substantive application to the equation you have presented. 270K and 320K is going away from zero. The equation does not represent restriction. Maybe if you take the case that TH tends towards zero in which case you will have

(1 - TL/0)* 100. TL/0 is undefined as it tends towards infinity. This is where you can apply L'hoptal's rule and set your constraints. Even so, you'll probably end up with negative percentage, which could be impossible - a contraint depending on the engineering parameters of your system.

A senior, Aha ahah, I was close enough - that is if you are indeed a senior. It seems you may need to get some clarification on some concepts before you leave college. All these things you have written take it to your professors, infact don't, show it to your friends they will be kinder. Let me point out some of the flaws in your writing I was able to pick up:

You wrote

There are 4 processes in a heat engine that constitute a cycle.
Wknet = [1 to 2]ΣpδV + [2 to 3] ΣpδV + [3 to 4] ΣpδV + [4 to 1] ΣpδV or
Wknet = [1 to 2]∫pdv + [2 to 3] ∫pdv + [3 to 4] ∫pdv + [4 to 1] ∫pdv with [x to x as integrating from to].
This is a meaningless bunch of partial diff eqtns. One takes the summation of differentiatials, the other integrates over some imaginary x, make up your mind are yu looking for the rate of change or are you for some volume, surface area etc. what are you trying to achieve this equation in the context? I sincerely hope
you were not trying to describe the carnot cycle because that would absolutely inane.

You wrote :

2nd Law of Thermodynamics
I don’t know where you got your second law of thermodynamics from.
I will state the law and explain it.
The 2nd law states that no heat engine can produce a net work output by exchanging heat with a single fixed-temperature region.
Midas wrote:

The entropy of an isolated system which is not in equilibrium will tend to increase over time, approaching a maximum value at equilibrium.”
Midas' definition is absolutely correct, although genereic it is more descriptive and captures the essence of the 2nd law. Yours is a subset as applied to a specificfield of study. This was my red flag. Yu simply did not understand what you were writing about. All your definition means is that, yu need a temp difference to do work. To do work is to increase the entropy of the system until a new steady state is reached. However there is a net entropy increase between the state before work was done and afterwards.

You wrote:

Now you are referring to entropy in the definition of the 2nd law. Entropy is abstract because it seems not to relate to a basic experience because it is a measure of unavailable energy in a system. The greater the entropy of a system, the less available is that system for doing work or transferring heat.
It seems you don't fully understand the principle behind entropy. Abstract in concept but practical in neally all systems. The degree of disorder. A low temp system has less entropy than a high temp system. so if you add heat to a lower temp system yu increase the entropy more than so for a high temp system ata molecular level. (2) Entropy tends to increase as you add engery to it, that is why you virtual every system tend to degrade with time, including humans - why we grow old - organs fail etc,

You wrote :

In mechanics, as the system increases in volume it can perform work but also has a reduced capability to perform other work.
This is a very silly statement. Please don't say it outside!

You wrote:

What this tells you is that there is a restriction placed on heat engines. Heat added Qadd and heat rejected Qrej must be nonzero. All required for a heat sink is to be at 0 Kelvin.
This looks omimously like the First law of thermodynamics - " The amount of Energy in any system is conserved ". What has 0 Kelvin got to do with this - na wa oh!!

You wrote

ηT = (1 – (TL/TH) * 100
as TL = 0. It is impossible to reach 100% efficiency because heat rejected must be 0. You will need a PMM2 to convert 100% of heat to work.
What on earth is TL and TH??!!!! Even if TL tends towards 0, why is it impossible to reach 100% efficiency from that mathematical equation. It is possible to to resolve that equation such that 100% is reached. Are you worried about dividing by zero? Have you ever heard of L'hopital's rule? Have you ever heard of boundary value problems!!! I think i know what you are trying to say here but your presentation is off-beat and makes it difficult to understand - not scientific enough

I would like to continue this debate, but time no dey my hands. Go back and understand the concepts you have learnt over the last 4yrs, it seems some are wishy-washy for you. A word is good enough for the wise.

AutosRe: Honda 'End Of Discussion': Is The V6 Engine Inferior To The I4? by pssword: 7:15pm On Feb 14, 2008
First of all, this is not an engineering discussion because Ivvie is writing NONSENSE He must be a sophomore or junior engineering student who hasn't quite understood the subject matter or some copy and paste jocky with little or no vague idea about engineering. I mean copying poorly formed partial differential equations from God knows where.  Equivocating, maybe prevaricate may be a closer word, on the 2nd Law of thermo. He had no understanding of the role of entropy in a sytem, heat or otherwise.  For me this was the biggest herring. When people use big big grammer and cryptic jargon when asked really simple question, you can quickly tell that there are trying to hide their ignorance.  Thank God I have an engineering background or I would have been bamboozled by charlatans like this Ivvie guy.

You cannot really compare UK and Yankee, the cost of living and the taxes in the former are far far higher. The analysis by samsilo, based on £3000 a month which is about $5.5k a month. People in the US own big houses and live very well on that money. But in the UK na anoda tory, u never start. In most parts of the UK you'll be lucky to rent or own a very very small one bed flat for that money. For those living in London, there is also the cost of transport etc, The guys in Yankee seem to have more time to themselves while the Londoners are permanently hustling from one corner to another,
