Trump’s immigration policy’ll reduce number of Nigerians in strategic professional positions — NDM The Nigerian Diaspora Movement (NDM) in the U.S. says President Donald Trump’s new immigration policy will, over time, reduce the number of Nigerians in strategic professional positions in that country. Chairman of the movement Prof. Apollos Nwauwa made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). A policy alert released on Wednesday by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services disclosed the Trump administration’s plan to make it more difficult for the children of some U.S. service members and U.S. government employees living abroad to automatically become U.S. citizens. The rule appears to primarily affect the children of naturalised U.S. citizens serving in the armed forces, who have not lived in the U.S. for a required period of time, a relatively small number — estimated to be approximately 100 annually, according to a Defense Department official. It does not impact anyone born in the U.S. U.S. citizenship can be acquired a few ways, including being born in the country. Children born abroad can acquire citizenship through their U.S. citizen parents either at birth or before the age of 18. While the latest policy guidance does not make anyone ineligible for citizenship, it appears to narrow how children abroad can gain citizenship. Trump has occasionally voiced his support for ending birthright citizenship and said last week that he was “seriously” considering ending it, though it is unclear how he would have the legal authority to do so. This is because an Executive Order alone is not enough to make him have his way. Only a constitutional amendment can make the president have his way where ending birthright citizenship is concerned. Acting USCIS Director Ken Cuccinelli said on Twitter that the new policy “does NOT impact birthright citizenship.” Still, the policy, which takes effect on Oct. 29, sparked confusion among military and diplomatic groups who immediately denounced the alert. The groups became concerned that the rule change would place hurdles before children of federal employees and military workers serving abroad. According to Nwauwa, Nigerians in the U.S. are of significant value to the U.S, given that they constitute a large part of the human resource base of that country. ”There is hardly any American agency or parastatal that has no Nigerian working in its upper echelons. “Since only citizens are permitted to work in sensitive and lucrative positions, over time, this policy will reduce the number of Nigerians in strategic professional positions in the U.S., ” he said. He further said that the policy of restrictive citizenship would reduce the huge amount of remittances made by Nigerians living in the U.S. to the country’s revenue sources. “Unquestionably, the long-term goal of the Trump administration is to reduce to the barest minimum the number of immigrants in his country. “The policy will only briefly affect Nigerians visiting the U.S. to have babies. ”It will also have implications for American servicemen, business people, members of the diplomatic corps as well as others, who live outside the U.S. with their families. “Nigerians who also have U.S. citizenship will be affected the most because their children born in their country of birth after they had become U.S. citizens by naturalisation, will not be granted citizenship. “Trump’s administration is determined to change the U.S. immigration landscape once and for all,” he said. https://www.pulse.ng/news/world/trumps-immigration-policyll-reduce-number-of-nigerians-in-strategic-professional/3geb2lj L

The Oyo State Governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, on Friday unveiled the e-registration programme of the Nigeria Immigration Service for all migrants (non-Nigerians) in the 33 local government areas of the state. Makinde said the exercise was coming at the period the country was facing security challenges. He said no meaningful development could take place where there was insecurity because no investor would invest where there was insecurity. The governor said one of his cardinal objectives was to address security threat in the state, adding that the e-registration for migrants would help tackle insecurity, plan and know the total number of people to be budgeted for in the state. Makinde said, “The state appreciates the NIS for the exercise because it will assist the state to leave up to its responsibilities. Those concerned should comply adequately without wasting time to avoid going to jail or being reprimanded.” In his speech, the state Comptroller of NIS, Saleh Abdullahi, said the registration would help to identify and determine the migration status of resident migrants in the state and Nigeria in general. Abdullahi said that the registration would also enhance the internal security of Nigeria. https://punchng.com/makinde-unveils-e-registration-for-migrants-in-oyo/

A flurry of gold medals in wrestling and others from athletics, boxing and even canoeing has seen Nigeria soar to the second spot on the overall medals table at the ongoing African Games in Morocco. Nigeria, as of Thursday night, had gathered a total of 103 medals (40 gold, 28 silver and 35 bronze medals). South Africa, who were previously occupying the second position, have now dropped to third as the curtain is set to drop on this edition of the African Games. Nigeria’s biggest harvest of gold medals on Thursday came from wrestling where the country won all but one of the six gold medals on offer to reaffirm her supremacy in the sport on the continent. Reigning African Games gold medalists, Blessing Oborududu (68kg), Odunayo Adekuoroye (57kg), Mercy Genesis (50kg) and Aminat Adeniyi (62kg), were all impressive as they retained their titles, as well as African Champion Blessing Onyebuchi (76kg), while 2018 African champion Bose Samuel (53kg) settled for silver after losing to Cameroon’s Essombe Joseph 2-4 in the final. The five gold-medalists did not concede a point in their respective final bouts. Unexpected feats While the feat in wrestling was predictable and expected, Nigeria served the continent a pleasant surprise in a relatively unpopular sport in the country, Canoeing, Nigeria on Thursday won two gold medals as Ayomide Emmanuel Bello won in the women’s 500m while she combined with Goodness Foloki to win another gold. Another unexpected outcome happened in Rabat as a new face in Nigeria’s table tennis, Olajide Omotayo, emerged as the champion of Africa in the men’s singles event at the 2019 African Games. Omotayo conquered three of the best players in Africa to be crowned the new champion of the continent. From the quarterfinal stage, Omotayo worked his way to the final, beating two former champions – Egypt’s Ahmed Saleh and Nigeria’s Segun Toriola in the quarterfinal and semifinal stages. The final produced the best of Africa with Aruna Quadri going up against Omotayo and the fans were treated to an exciting match. Omotayo threw caution to the wind and raced to the lead with a 3-0 (13-11, 11-9, 16-14) but experienced Quadri cut the lead to 3-2 with 8-11, 13-15 wins in the fourth and fifth games. The sixth match was a display of energy and skills and it was the younger Omotayo that scaled through with 12-10 win to claim the second gold medal for Nigeria in the table tennis event of the multi-sports fiesta. Although the likes of Ese Brume also won gold for Nigeria in the women’s long jump and Shogbamu Bolanle in boxing, the icing on the cake was the Falconets’ gold medal in the women’s football event. Bad for badminton It was however not too good for Nigeria in badminton where only one gold medal was won in the four final matches the team members played on Thursday at the 12th African Games. The only gold medal was won by Anuoluwapo Opeyori who beat Georges Julien Paul of Mauritius in the Men’s Singles. Dorcas Adesokan lost the Women’s Singles to South Africa’s Johanita Scholtz. While the pair of Deborah Ukeh and Dorcas Adesokan were beaten in the Women’s Doubles by Hadia Elsaid and Doha Toufic of Egypt. Awaiting champions Going into the last day of action before the closing ceremony, Egypt are home and dry in the first position on the overall medals table. They presently have a massive 79 gold 87 silver and 63 bronze medals. It would also take a miracle for South Africa, who currently have eight gold medals less than Nigeria, to return to the second position as most of the games where they have medal prospects have been concluded. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/349547-2019-african-games-nigeria-now-second-on-medals-table.html/amp/

Traditional Yoruba wedding garment is really something that makes weddings in Yorubaland so picturesque and festive-looking. No matter how wealthy the bride and groom are – their attires will be so luxurious that even a king would freely wear them. Let’s take a look at these masterpieces and their specific features. Traditions of making wedding attire in Yorubaland From the ancient times, there was a special Yoruba cloth for making wedding attires and other formal garments. Known as Aso Oke, it was the only choice for brides and grooms. Since that time, a lot has changed. Now brides and grooms in Yorubaland can choose among lace, silk, velvet, and sometimes even elements of Ankara. However, the assortment of Aso Oke still remains prevalent among Yorubas. Aso Oke is used to create attires for everybody. Brides and grooms, their families and friends, any of the guests can wear this fabric. If the wedding sticks to traditions precisely, Aso Oke can be chosen for Aso Ebi, a special tradition that will receive some more attention below Traditional Yoruba attire for bride There are certain traditions of getting dressed for brides in Yorubaland. They are supposed to wear special clothes from head to her toes. The clothes usually mean a combination of a traditional wrapper with a blouse, and a headpiece. The wrapper is called Iro. The wrapper is usually tied at the waist and covers the bride’s hips and legs up to the ankles or reaches the floor. It looks extremely feminine and elegant, especially today when it’s possible to choose a fabric that creates lovely folds and creases. The Iro is accompanied by a blouse called buba The blouse is often made with the same fabric and colour as the wrapper. White lace blouses of this type look especially festive and attractive. The headpiece is created out of a headtie that’s called Gele. This is a traditional Yoruba headpiece that can be worn in a variation of forms and shapes for the sake of creativity and elegance. In most cases, the headtie is made with Aso oke. Sometimes, brides attach small veils to their Gele. The wedding attire of this type is usually accompanied by some fashionable jewelry. In most cases, brides wear earrings and bracelets. The majority of brides has special beads that are meant for the wedding occasion. These beads normally match the color of the attire or create a deep contrast. Of course, every bride in Yorubaland has decent shoes that match her purse and a fan. A fan is a fashion accessory that’s used by many Nigerian brides in different regions of the country. Some brides have second dresses. It’s made to change the look after the wedding ceremony but these dresses are no way less stunning and luxurious than the first ones. There’s a tendency that if the first dress is made out of Aso Oke, the second one will be made out of lace. The Yoruba wedding attire color codes The tradition of determining the color code of a wedding is ancient and beloved. During the preparation phase for the wedding, the bride, the groom, and their families choose the colors for Aso Ebi – clothes for the guests and the family colour, if the family members want separate colours.. Why is it so important? The family and guests of the bride may be dressed in one color and the family and guests of the groom – in another one. It will help determine the relationships and create a colorful wedding ceremony with juicy vibrant color spots. The bride’s friends, Ore Iyawo, and the groom’s friends as well receive a privilege of choosing their Aso Ebi for themselves. It’s normal for them to be dressed with more elegance and taste than all the others. Their garments are usually more suitable for young people as Aso Ebi of the same type for different age groups is not the best choice. Besides that, it makes sense to create a lovely attire for a couple. The bride and the groom's clothes are made with the different fabrics, but same colour and the same aso oke. In most cases, the couple's colour is always different from the colours chosen buy their families. Yoruba traditional clothes for groom Grooms in Yorualand are usually dressed in Sokoto (quite loose pants), a Buba (a shirt) and Agbada. Agbada is an outfit that’s worn for special festive occasions like weddings and other formal situations. The chest embroidery on Agbada can be utterly elaborate and exquisite. The attire is accompanied with a hat called Fila. Filas can be of different types and often the groom himself chooses what type of Fila he’s going to wear. The groom's Fila and agbada are made out of the same fabric as their bride’s Gele, although some couple were different materials. Grooms also have some jewelry. In case the man has no permanent items like piercing, the only item of jewelry will be a very long and very elaborate beaded necklace. Sometimes, grooms also have an additional accessory – a horse’s tail called Irukere. This is an ancient royal item and many grooms decide to support the tradition even nowadays. Let’s take a look at the traditional wedding attire that Yoruba couples wear on their wedding days. https://www.legit.ng/1191944-yoruba-traditional-wedding-attire-bride-groom.html?utm_source=direct&utm_medium=rads Cc Lalasticlala Mynd44

Kemi Adetiba has confirmed that she's working on making 'King Of Boys 2'. 10 months after the premiere of Kemi Adetiba’s groundbreaking thriller, ‘King Of Boys,’ she has hinted plans to shoot a second phase. In a tweet on Monday, August 26, 2019, Adetiba tweeted about her efforts at making another phase of the film. However, the filmmaker refused to clarify if the intended ‘King Of Boys 2’ will be a prequel or sequel to the first franchise. “So, finally tackled the scene where Makanaki and Odogwu Malay meet (read as confront) each other for the first time in KOB 2... And..” she tweeted. The tweet got fans of the film and the filmmaker expressing opinions on what shape the script should take. Adetiba was quick to inform fans that she’s afraid to share the script with anyone including the actors saying she might need to have the crew and cast sign the non-disclosure form. “I'm even afraid to share the script with ANYONE at this point. Even folks that NEED to read it. But, as I've mentioned before, even if you manage to get your hands on a script, NO script will have the final scene. And we will shoot 3 alternate endings...Cos I don't trust y'all “Hmmmmmmmm... With the way y'all are acting, I definitely will need a lockdown on the KOB 2 set, with everyone signing airtight NDAS.” She also dropped hint on how she intends to conclude the story, which has had several Nigerians in and outside Nigeria talking. “I just figured out how I want KOB 2 to end,” she tweeted. She went on to say, “Damn near at the end of the script and the ONLY thing that had us stomped was a fitting ending. Now we got it!!! However... It's so good, we'll have to keep it secret and out of the official script even given to the actors”. The filmmaker broke all her record, which was set by ‘The Wedding Party 1’. Adetiba’s ‘King Of Boys’ grossed over N100 million after maintaining number one spot in cinemas for seven weeks and emerged the 4th highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time. https://www.pulse.ng/entertainment/movies/kemi-adetiba-confirms-king-of-boys-2/bv81mkg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cF-FQLKaUCk

The Osun State Government has said it is making available 20 Armoured Personnel Carriers to the Western Nigerian Security Network, as part of its contribution to fighting insecurity in the region. The network is a security architecture designed by the south-west governors as a response to the spate of kidnappings, killings and other violent crimes within the region. It was gathered that the governors of the states in the region are at the stage of launching the outfit after approval was given from the Office of the National Security Adviser. The Osun State governor, Gboyega Oyetola, while addressing citizens of the state as part of the state’s 28th anniversary, said the state government was mindful of the need to maintain the peace in the state and in the south-west region. The governor noted that Osun has been known for peace since its creation in 1991 and to further sustain that status, was partnering with other south-west states to strengthen security in the region. Mr Oyetola said the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) would commence operation to fortify the area. “We are contributing 20 Armoured Personnel Carriers and other ideas and logistics to further guarantee the security of lives and property of the citizens in our state and region,” the governor said. The governor noted that even though the government had every reason to roll out the drums in celebration of its 28th anniversary, it had decided to make it a low key, owing to the prevailing economic situation in the country. He paid glowing tributes to the founding fathers of the state, including his predecessors in office, for laying a “solid foundation,” upon which successive administrations have continued to build on. “We promised to pay full salary to all our workers, we have not defaulted. We promised to pay our pensioners; we have also not defaulted,” he said. “We promised to rebuild, remodel and, in some cases, carry out total rehabilitation of existing school buildings in series 4 classrooms, 5 classrooms, 6 classrooms, 8 classrooms, 10, 15 and 20 classrooms at a maximum of 50 pupils/students per class, to cater for communities at 200, 250, 300, 400, 500, 750 pupils per school. “We have commissioned completed projects in that regard in Telemu and Morinu, in Olaoluwa and Iwo local government areas respectively. Our work as a government so far points to one fact: better days ahead.” The governor also used the opportunity to detail the several achievements of his government on assumption of office and urge the citizens to join hands in building the state. “The totality of our efforts in the last nine months is built on our manifesto which was carefully crafted to take our State to the Next Level,” he added. “It shall continue to define our relationship with you. I congratulate you all, distinguished compatriots, on this eventful 28 years’ journey to Statehood. May God continue to bless the state of Osun.” https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/ssouth-west/349177-osun-to-provide-20-armoured-carriers-for-proposed-southwest-security-network.html/amp/ |
