One key reason (don't know about theory) is the lumping of incongruous groups/ethnicities together (with nothing in common but the colour of their skin) just for administrative convenience; following on from this is the African elite/ruling class the departing colonial masters handed over to, wanting to continue the status-quo for selfish/tribal reasons. Nationalists like Nkrumah, Zik and Kenyatta were more idealists than pragmatists and believed they could build and mould their new 'Nations' into a workable entity regardless of obvious imperfections and a faulty foundation. Though some Nations like Ghana seem to be getting away with it, others like Nigeria aren't so lucky. What needs to happen (as in the case of Rwanda) is for everyone to get their heads out of the sand and discuss their unique problems and finally reach an all-inclusive solution acceptable to all.

Anurugwo: In their bid to end the ceaseless attacks being unleashed on some parts of the country by the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, security chiefs have prepared a list of the sect’s backers. The list is said to contain names of suspected backers of the sect and other terror groups.

A security source told our correspondent on Friday that the list was compiled by top security chiefs at a meeting held to strategise on how to end the spiralling violence.

The official said the decision to compile the list was born out of the belief of the security chiefs that the anti-terrorism battle could be won sooner than expected if people linked with violence were exposed.

The security chiefs were said to have worked on the intelligence report that some top politicians had been giving financial backing to terror groups with the aim of destabilising the present administration.

The official said the security officials had resolved to formally inform the office of the National Security Adviser about the alleged involvement of such politicians supporting terror groups.

Apparently supporting the claims of the NSA, Gen. Owoye Azazi, that some undemocratic practices within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the build-up to the 2011 general elections fuelled the violence, they heaped the blame on those they called greedy politicians.

abuchilag: Well said. Let us not jump into quick conclusions and make mistakes afterwards. All the parties involved in the subsidy regime should also be interrogated....the likes of Rilwan Lukman, former GMD-Barkindo(or what) etc must face the panel for us to get to the root of this rot.


Having done that, let the rule of law take its full course and those found guilty must refund the money first before going to jail.

The attention of the Presidency has been drawn to reports in the media of allegations made against President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in an affidavit said to have been sworn to by Mr. Henry Okah who is facing trial in South Africa for his involvement in terrorist acts against the Federal Republic of Nigeria.



The Presidency categorically affirms that these allegations are false in their entirety and without any factual foundation.

As the case of Mr. Okah’s involvement in the plotting and execution of terrorist attacks in Nigeria is already before a court of competent jurisdiction in South Africa, the Presidency does not intend to say anymore on the matter for now and will, in accordance with due process and international law, make a full representation on the matter to the court when the trial opens.



The Presidency also advises the Nigerian media to respect the sanctity of the legal and judicial processes in this matter and avoid becoming willing tools in the hands of Mr. Okah and his agents in an entirely diversionary trial by the media aimed only at falsely impugning the character and integrity of the President and officials of his administration.
