Big Thank you...

Enskynelson:
The statement of result is the same as notification of result and it costs 5k. It will be send to your email when you apply for it.
EducationRe: National Open University Of Nigeria (NOUN) Students by pyrated: 9:10am On Dec 23, 2023
@Enskynelson, thank you for your swift answer....I have clicked the link...what is close to statement of result on the link is notification of result...Will it suffice? How do I get the notification, will it be sent to my registered email. Also, if I apply for the notification can I proceed to apply for the transcript immediately or I have to wait to get the notification of result before applying, reason is the evaluating body(WES) request that I either upload the statement of result or certificate before they can conclude the evaluation.

Thank you.

Enskynelson:
You can apply for your transcripts and Statement of Result already.

Please, i want to know at what point I can apply for transcript. I have seen my name on the graduation list but I cannot wait till March/April 2024 for the next convocation.

What steps do I take to apply for statement of result, is it through my study centre or I can do it myself online?

Thank you.

Hi everyone,

Asking for a friend!!! My friend registered for her project and seminar last semester(2020_1) but wasn't assigned a supervisor not until October 2020 ( cos of the global pandemic) and so she wasn't able to meet up with submission deadline as she's yet to complete both.
1. Does she need to register for this new semester (2020_2) and also register them as a carryover?
2. Will she be able to submit the project/seminar in this new semester if she doesn't pay for registeration?
3. Have the school recorded it as a carryover considering she has not submitted it bfore.

Please your swift response will be highly appreciate.
Investment5 Indispensable Money Advice For The 21st Century Working Adult by pyrated(op): 2:24pm On Jul 31, 2020
Some excellent finance tips for the 21st-century adult to keep in mind.

A lot of people argue that the digital century has made it much easier to make money. With a simple tap on your phone screen, you could invest in global stocks and resell at a high price within a short period.

Some others are making money by simply entertaining the world on their YouTube channel, and some others have built a loyal community of followers on social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram, turned into ‘mini celebrities’ and brand influencers who now make serious money by helping to bring merchant’s products into the consciousness of their followers.

Now, whereas the ability to make money has become easier, managing one’s finances is, however, a different ballgame. As a matter of fact, it is guided by completely different laws from those of making money. We hereby bring you some important tips on how to manage your money.

Below are some excellent finance tips for the 21st-century adult to keep in mind. Why the 21st century? Well, this age has completely different trends and a whole different kind of financial challenge.

Never regard gambling or money doubling ventures as investments
Such ventures are ‘for-profit’, meaning that they are out to make more money than they payout. So what are the odds that you, out of the millions who play the game, will end up as winners? Probably less than 0.000001. That said, you are more likely to lose your money than win more.

Playing or not playing such games may completely be a thing of moral disposition. However, if you want to play the game, consider the money as one that many never come back, instead of as one that is expected to come back in multiples as return on investment.

Better still, find other pastimes or distractions if you enjoy playing games. Once again, these are not ‘investments’. It is gambling.

Understand what promotions and discounts really mean
Discounts and promotions often come across as saving some money. But of a truth, you are not saving, you are spending – maybe less, but you are still spending nonetheless.

It is not an unwise decision to take advantage of discounts and promotions, but if you do not already have the item listed in your budget, it is better to disregard it.

Unfortunately, this is not often the case as young adults continue to be overwhelmed by the sense of urgency when a merchant declares a 30% discount of sales of his products for a limited period.

The emotional pull is to cash in on this promo while it last, especially since the message says you can save a certain amount of money by buying it. However, the practical reality before you is that you are spending and not saving at the moment you make the purchase.

You are only actually saving some money when you already have the item in your list of expenses and end up spending a lesser amount to purchase the same item.

However, if a discount is being offered on a product you absolutely need, you can go ahead to make the purchase even if you have not planned for it, so long as you understand the difference between needs and luxuries.

This should not be a habit because it makes a mess of the financial discipline you have been trying to build on so, it’s something you should be mindful of.

Whenever you go shopping, go with a list and stick to it
Never go shopping without a market list. It probably seems like a weird thing to do but having a market list can and should prevent you from impulsive buying, where you buy items you do not need and forget the things you need.

Every Merchant is out to make sales and the result of this is that they try to make their products as appealing and captivating as possible.

No matter how few items you want to buy make a list and stick to it. You have no idea how much heartache it can save you.

Place a cap/limit on your weekly spending
Nothing truncates your financial goals like unplanned spending. Having understood what makes up your weekly budget, make some allowance for emergencies and place a weekly limit.

The attitude of ‘lets-see’how-it-goes’ is not the best for managing your finances. The choice to place a weekly limit is akin to checking your expenses, especially since you know that spending on unnecessary items could result in you sacrificing some of your actual needs till the next week.

Banks and financial institutions can help you activate this feature, thus preventing you from making any debit transaction on your card once you have reached your limit.

With this, you are compelled to postpone other expenses until the start of a new week.

Make buying decisions based on value and not cost
For the purpose of clarity, cost is what you pay for the product and value is what you get. The summary of this point is that you should know when an item actually costs more than it is sold, and make your buying decisions based on this knowledge.

John and Francis both decide to get a car, but while John decides to buy a brand new car, Francis opts for a fairly used car at less than half the price.

Three months later, Francis’ car has spent more nights at the mechanic shop than in his garage, while John has only now remembered to take his car for the regular maintenance and check.

On the surface, John might have paid more but he got his money’s value, while Francis has come to discover that he paid more (cost) for less (value). For all the troubles it has given to him, he would probably have been better off going for the newer car or staying without a car at all.

When you want to make a buy, decipher the cost and the value and let this be your guide. You might spend much, but make sure it is right for the value you are getting.

I want to first of all say thank you for the spot on information you dish out here...from your last post, you mentioned about coordination of projects virtually...i would like to ask, are students who registered for projects but were not able to submit the required three project topics at the SC whereby a project supervisor was to be assigned be eligible or is this for students who have concluded their projects and are awaiting defense. Please assist with a feedback, as it will help to make a timely decision.

We know how some workers can behave nonchalantly, i would suggest we mobilize our self and bombard their twitter handle(if we know the VC or any top person's handle, we can copy them). Let's make it trend on social media...and i tell you the person(s) in charge will do the needful.

Should in case any NOUN official is here and can see this, pls note, that it is things like this that will make students sing praise of the school...it baffles me, what it takes for someone to just reply a mail. Those who work in private firms know that responding to mail is a given, everything is time bound. You shouldn't use your own to delay my life.

NOUN should do better in this aspect, people should not be made to suffer for their transcript to be sent or for confirmation of the certificate/ transcript delayed. one or two staff should be dedicated to do this.

Ribasandez:
I did the same. When it comes to things like this, I can be very persuasive. But it didn't work. I sent messages to them on all platforms, email, whatsapp, SMS, no response, no feedback. I'm just trying to take everything cool because I don't wanna have a hypertension. As a result of this attitude, lack of information and delay, it is indeed regrettable that I studied at NOUN.

MrJaay:
Only that in this case, the assistance is not in form of tutoring, teamwork, mentorship, or anything that requires the said student to participate or learn.

Also, we're not talking about just one or two courses, but the entire courses that the said student is taking for that semester.

If anything, this practice makes for why they end up doing guess work and failing in the final exams, because they need not read the course material or anything even, to get their 30/30.

I do get your point though, not every student fall under this category.
@MrJaay, so what do you suggest the university do to correct this anomaly? While i am not trying to justify the unethical behavior of students who pay for their TMAs to be done for them, you have to also note that NOUN is a distance learning program and ordinarily there's shouldn't be physical contact with students, but NOUN has ensured that students go to chosen study centres to write exams which in a way gives credence to the fact that they are trying to curb cheating, imagine if they decide to do everything online, the cheating rate would have been too much. I would suggest that NOUN should reduce the TMA to 15marks(5 marks per TMA)so the students know that even if the hv "free" 15 marks they need to put in so much to meet with the required pass mark in the exam, I would also like to add that the TMAs be timed and let it be that each students answer different types, meaning, my TMA questions should be different from the other person's. To completely rubbish NOUN program is unfair to those who are doing their best. NOUN need to only outsmart the students and those doing the TMAs for students.

2. Does he have to wait till the transcript is sent to NOUN before he can proceed to the SC to get his matric number?

Hi, please i want to ask if you can share the content of the final assessment of ICES ECA. If i am not asking too much, maybe a screenshot of your own completed ECA evaluation from ICES.

NB: Why i am asking is because i would like to know in particular if date of birth is part of what will be captured in the report. There is a mistake on my wife's O'level certs and so i am weighing options of WES or ICES.

ALSO, How can i send private message on this platform?

Family13 Things Every Young Person Should Know by pyrated(op): 3:41am On Aug 11, 2014
1. “Growing up” doesn’t suck. It’s a time of learning and adjusting.

2. You were only friends with the majority of your school friends because you were forced to be with them seven hours a day, five days a week. There’s gonna be some separation, and the true friends will stick around.

3. Absolutely nobody owes you any-fucking-thing. Not your mom or your dad, your grandparents, your teachers—nobody. Get off your ass and work for what you want.

4. Take advice when you can get it. There are plenty of adults who are more than happy to give you their two cents on any given life topic. Take advantage of their wisdom and stop being so damn stubborn.

5. For the singles; Acting bitter toward the lovey-dovey couples you always see around is the reason why you’re single. No need to be judgmental of others’ relationships…focus on you and your nonexistent relationship.

6. Your nonexistent relationship is completely all right. Take time to truly get to know yourself before you begin to incorporate a whole new person into the picture.

7. Facebook/Twitter/Instagram, etc. are awesome ways to keep up with friends, but you must realize that social media is where people share the best part of their lives. You don’t see their burnt dinners, their ugly breakups, their failed exams or posts about how much weight they have gained. Stop using it as a medium to compare lives.

8. As much as paying rent sucks, at least you have the opportunity to do it. But, umm, pitching up a tent in the corner of the park next to the hobos is oh-so-tempting.

9. Relying on a significant other to bring happiness into your life leads to countless tubs of ice cream, lonesome pizza binging, and a couple of tears. But mainly the first two.

10. Family first. And family doesn’t automatically mean blood related. “Blood is thicker than water,” but ketchup is thicker than blood, so what does that mean? French fries first, duh.

11. You may have it hard, but somebody has it harder, and they aren’t making up excuses as to why they can’t do something. They are making shit happen. Go make shit happen.

12. It is not necessary to document everything you do on social media. You don’t need to put your whole life on display. Unplug yourself and have a little bit of fun.

13. Saving money is probably a good idea and all. However, the tighter you hold onto your money, the more stress it’s going to bring you. Money comes and goes; it’s OK to splurge on random shit every once in a while!

Family10 Quick Ways To Get Married by pyrated(op): 3:31am On Aug 11, 2014
Marriage should not pose a challenge when you pull down some barriers and adhere to these rules. Your Mr. /Miss Right might just be some steps away

• Don’t play hard to get

Playing hard to get makes it hard to find Mr. /Ms. Right. You need not pretend to be busy when asked out on a date; neither should you feign nonchalance when you really desire that person asking you out. There is a chance that when you change gear, it can be someone who will make you unhappy.

• Never harbour stereotypes

Not all men fear commitment and not every woman is needy. A large percentage of singles is anxious and seek closeness but worries about love not being reciprocated. Others are avoidant and shun intimacy. People who push others away or have a preconceived idea about intimacy are likely to end up single.

• Don’t hold on to the past

Holding on to an ex or a failed relationship makes it hard to find a new one. For these reasons, you become avoidant and uncomfortable in any relationship – you push others away and compare every new person you meet with your ex. Why not let go?

• Be decisive

If you are in a relationship but do not know what you want out of it, then you may be single for a long time. Have a mind of your own and take the responsibility of making your own decisions in your relationship. Be clear and certain about what you want and set out to get it.

• Be flexible

Already, you have a picture of who your ideal mate should be. Be flexible in your choice, and realistic; you can never get a perfect partner. No one is. Or do you want a relationship like that of the movies? Then, it might take a very long time. Getting stuck on finding all the qualities in your ‘what-I-want’ list is a faster way of remaining single.

• Change your work schedules

Some singles who are searching for mates would not think of you as good material, if you work late nights and on weekends. More importantly, not having the same schedule could be a huge strain on a relationship. It may not be easy to give up your passion or change career for someone, but nights and weekends are when most people are free to spend time together. It could be an expressway to being single.

• Don’t indulge in ‘e-romance’

Online romances may meet some of your attachment needs, but not in a real way. Meet new prospects and stick to more realistic ways of meeting people.

• Be bold and feel secure

Some people avoid committed relationships because they worry they will become dependent on their mate, or break up rather too soon. It may be one fear or another. The trick is to boldly find someone and work at it.

• Believe in yourself

Some people think they simply are not worthy of meeting other people until they lose weight, amass a certain amount of money or achieve something. The key to overcome this problem is to believe in oneself and love oneself the way one is.

• Don’t be a flirt

Serious people who want to be engaged in serious relationships do not play around; they get down to the real deal. No one wants to date someone who is known for hopping into every available bed.

InvestmentImagine Living Your Current Lifestyle Without A Salary by pyrated(op):
Chike is a top management employee of a bank. He owns a house in Victoria Garden City and travels abroad with his family every year on summer vacation. He drives a Range Rover Sports while his wife drives a Honda Pilot and owns a shop at Ikota Shopping Complex. The shop is just to keep her busy so that she gets to leave the house in-between school runs. Their kids attend one of the most expensive schools in the Lekki area. In addition to a good pay package, Chike had access to staff loans at single digit interest rates. He was the shining light of his extended family. Then the unimaginable happened! The consolidation party ended and in came Lamido Sanusi as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. His Managing Director was fired and sent to jail.

The devil’s alternative

Overnight, the future did not look as bright as before. Soon, his bank was acquired by another bank. Chike was called in by the new management and given a choice – the devil’s alternative as he called it. Take your benefits and leave or forfeit your benefits and start as a new hire with new conditions of service.

Chike was raving mad when he came to meet me for advice. He wanted to call it a day. He felt insulted that after putting in two decades and rising to the top, he was being asked to start afresh at God-knows-what position. The snag was he owed his former bank; if his new employers deducted the outstanding balance on his loan he would go home virtually empty handed. If he chose to stay, he would lose all his entitlements and start all over again from ground zero. He was too angry to contemplate the option of starting afresh. At the same time, he could not afford to walk away empty handed. What was my advice?

I was caught between a rock and a hard place. I understood how he felt and would readily ask him to go and do something else with his life, but with what? There are bills to be paid and seed capital to put up. I could not ask him to go back under the prevailing circumstances. Rather than offer my opinion, I asked him to go and sleep on it and think it through. Often, when we are angry, we tend to think we have options and may take a rash decision that we may later regret. Chike eventually opted to start afresh. That was the better of the two evils. I thought so too. Only this time, he needed to quickly put his house in order and achieve financial independence, which will give him the option to choose tomorrow.

Lifestyle fuelled by earned income

Many are in Chike’s shoes. They live a high consumption lifestyle fuelled by earned income. As income rises, consumption goes up accordingly without any corresponding increase in savings and investment in income generating assets. If anything happens to that income source, there is a crisis. The standard of living can nosedive drastically if an equivalent job is not secured as soon as possible. Many have not paused to ask themselves if they can maintain their current lifestyle if their salaries stop today. Their basic assumption is that their job will always be there till they retire, their income will always go up, their pension will always be there after they have retired and their pension will support them throughout their old age.

All these are assumptions and not facts. Things can and do change. Basing your future on these assumptions is taking a very risky position without a safety net. For one, your company may not be there till you retire. In this era of mergers and acquisitions, your employer does not need your permission to sell off the company and move on if he gets an offer he cannot refuse. The marketplace has become very dynamic and many known brands in the brick and mortar era have become extinct.

Your income may not always go up. Sometimes workers opt for a pay cut rather than retrenchment during a period of economic downturn. Putting all your hopes on your pension is another risky proposition. A market crash can punch giant holes in your portfolio and leave you stranded while it lasts. A deal gone bad can also jeopardise your nest egg. Pension fund managers by law are required to spread the risks, but this may not always be the case in reality.

Assuming all things went as you had hoped they would and you got a pension for life, inflation and ill health could eat away at your purchasing power, driving down your standard of living unless your children are able and willing to bail you out every month.

Tomorrow will surely come

Planning for retirement goes beyond funding your pension. You should aim to achieve financial independence as soon as you possibly can. Never assume that your job will be there for you forever. In the information age, forever is not as long as it used to be. Companies downsize when profits go down. The myth of job security went with the industrial age. You need to start planning for eventualities. What if? You need to prepare for a possible job loss before it happens. You don’t wait for war to break out before enrolling in the military academy. The best time to prepare for war is in the time of peace. The best time to take insurance is when you don’t need it. By the time an incident happens, it may be too late.

Forward looking companies do scenario planning. They brainstorm and throw up different scenarios and plan for them. Companies that run on data usually have a duplicate copy of their data stored at a separate location as part of their disaster recovery plan for business continuity. They back up their data and store it in a safe place. They don’t assume nothing will happen.

Everything that has a beginning has an end. Your job will come to an end some day, often without warning. Even when you get a handsome severance package, if you don’t have a plan for it, others will help you to spend it and you will be back to square one, and without a job. If you cannot maintain your current standard of living without your salary, it may be time to consider cutting back the waste and invest in securing your family’s financial future.
