Yes I know its bad right now especially with the collapsed oil prices. Is it not possible to relocate to a different city ?

Bros, trust me Nija is not much better if you dont have a solid plan, you think its cheap to live in Nija (Lagos) in particular, you will be surprised how the bills creep up there as well.

* There is public transport but I guess it may not suit you, when conductor starts to swear at you that you have taken 2 spaces in the bus.
* If you have a car, you need to service it and fuel it etc.
* If you have a house, at least you save on rent.
* Pay bills like phone credit, tenement rate, estate fees etc, i know its small compared to Canada etc.
* You might need a house help/security/maiguard
* You are your own Nepa, you need to generate your own electricity when NEPA strikes. Petrol & Diesel cost.
* Think you are smart and buy inverter? dont use it well and let the battery degrade. you will need to shell out N100k just to replace the battery.
* You are your own water cooperation, you need to generate your own water whether you like it or not.
* Forget drinking tap water, unless you want to be wearing pampers after pooing all day, you need to buy decent water.
* The roads will spoil your car unless you get jeep, even jeep self wait till you hear the cost of replacing one single tyre.
* Nobody gives you money, they expect from you after-all you just came from abroad.
* Nothing is free, you have to grease palms most places u go, even though you know how to park, the security telling you where to park in V.I self wants something.

So to fit into the Nija system, I feel that one needs to earn money there. Unless one is taking a gigantic sum of money, you will just find that you are spending everyday and if nothing is coming in, it can be hard o.

You' re right.

For a very long time I was thinking about moving to Toronto or Chicago. Lagos just outweigh then in my opinion. I once stayed in Lagos for 3 months. It was the best 3 months in a long time for me. I figured, how bad can it be? If it doesn't work, I can always dust my blue "pali" and move to Toronto or Chicago. Home is where your heart is. The stress is too much here.

Nigeria is hot and smoking right now, this is not the kind of decision you just make in a haste, its so bad now that Bosun Davies Shoyoye cannot even afford to pay the 10K due this week the refund for the fake building plan, before he was paying in weekly installments.

I am guessing you got a family, have you thought about that ?
Also, Nija is not a place one goes without a solid plan, even that plan self you have to put it into prayers because sometimes what you see or hear is not the reality on the ground.

Personally, I would recommend you stay put unless you have a serious solid business plan that can work in the current economic climate or you have a highly placed chairman that can give u a decent government posting.

Thank you dear friend.

I had a business plan but with the exchange rate, I wont be able to execute the plans.

Please google "Calgary / Alberta economy" things are not really much better right now. I lost 45% of my income 12 months ago. By the time I paid all my bills I hardly have $300 left every month. Whatever I do in naija, I will still have $300/month. I really want to reunite with my wife as I promised next month.in naija, to tell you the truth, nothing makes me happier in this world. The stress of losing money here is just killing me. I don't have pay rent on naija, and the bills is reasonable compare to North America. I just wanna chill!

As for Bosun, I guess maga no dey pay anymore!

its a BIG JOKE grin grin grin

Who wants to go back to Nigeria in this present harsh economy? shocked

My friend in ordinary Gabon there changed his mind when the speed of dollar to naira is unquestionable. His aim was to go back to nigeria February this year to start live stock and transportation business. I adviced him not to go due to the CBN new forex policy then which i knew will affect our naira and will ofcus favour those in diaspora.

I spoke to my mum on Wednesday and i was shocked to hear we have 8 parking store empty without any importer requesting for 1. (These are parking store that won't take less than 1week before we rent them out). Dollar scarcity is affecting importers and its affecting the economy as a WHOLE.

I think i once told this house my dad is a car dealer? He told me how sales have been bad ever since naira started crashing even despite importing from canada which their dollar isn't same with US dollars.

In conclusion, even if na let's say $300 you can save in a month; that's almost 100k if you use WU and more than that if you use agencies.

I will login to my main account and copy a link of business I was aiming to go and start in Nigeria next year but what I am hearing back home and how prices of things have increased, i later realized this isnt the nigeria i visited last year. I have decided to sit my ass down here no matter how low my income is.

I will advice you to think twice before taking such step. Dont forget the nigeria way "he is a londoner" and you will also want to live tthat life till they dry u up.

My 2 cent.

^^^

I left Naija since 1992!

One day, you will reach a stage where money is nothing to you, and I'm not talking about being rich.

So....no joking here!

u are right sir. I have done it for some people. In this situation u can do stamped concrete floor on the frontage and at the back u can do interlocking.

But the problem here is ur back yard is supose to be more clean because it is alway close to ur kitchen and should be kept clean all the time.

My advice is. Instead of combining interlocking at the backyard, only cement but stamped casting at the backyard which will look like the picture i sent above.

Do you mind to share some pictures for those work?

You can still relocate and be comfortable.
Find a way to earn your income in dollars while in Nigeria.
That's all.

Nigeria is the last place you want to be at this time. You are better off in Canada catching opps or smoking on coon pack.

That's a good advice, but in Naija, I can't get my income in USD.

Urgent advise needed!

I'm posting this question here because I know there are a lot of you in the same situation with me, please pardon me if I've offended anyone with this....

I'm about to submit my quit letter to my manager on Monday to relocate to Nigeria next month. I noticed a thread on the front page that says $1 = N400. I lived in Calgary, AB. Y'all know oil & gas have turned this city into something else these days, it's like its no better than naija here, the only difference is stable electricity and rule of laws.

What should I do? I'm totally confused!

Thanks.

Damn...! I was going to relocate back to naija next month. I'm now having a second and third thought. I really don't wanna stay here neither, this are getting out of hands, regardless the slow Canada economy I still have to pay $1200/month for rent!

Why not do a combination. Something like flooring/interlocking/concrete stamping. When i saw the estimate i was given for interlocking, i had to settle for concrete flooring in some areas and interlocking in some areas.

I was given just N1m only for interlock landscape.

I really want the interlocking though, but it's not for me due to the nature of the waterlogged land. I need something that wont allow water to penetrate beneath the soil.

I like this POP, cost and duration plz ??

^^^

I spent about N1m for 6 rooms, 4 living rooms and the lobby.

I think you may spend a lot less because people rather go for a very simple POP designs instead of the older and difficult designs like you saw in mine.

Duration? About 70 days (3 men).

You have to be skeptical about who handle your POP designs. The dude that did mine couldn't do anything close to the first pic below for my master bedroom, and I had to come up with something simpler (or I least I thought I was), and out of nowhere we ended up with what you saw in the 2nd pic below. Anyway, I believe by the time I did the walls and bed frame touch the ceiling, it will look similar to pic 1.

@Qc1. .... it takes courage to give someone a second chance when everything around you point to the opposite. It hurts more when the person you have given a second chance doesn't appreciate it and it comes to bite you eventually. Money is not easy to make so when one looses it, it hurts deeply. A builder should always be grateful that you called him to do a job among many, afterall you put food on his table. No one is more aggreived than the greiving. May the Lord replenish all you have lost.

EgunMogaji, I must confess that I adopted 'the siddon look' strategy when you were ardently supporting Brabus against Q1C. I'm sorry to say that I'm personally not sympathetic with Q1C because he was the architect of his own misfortune as far as his dealings with Brabus was concerned. The reason why I believe that Q1C was the architect of his own misfortune was that the handwriting was on the wall as per the untrustworthiness and incompetence of Brabus as a builder. I remembered vividly that Brabus was having a dual altercation with Ahonohai and the owner of Ile-Oluji Chateau on this forum and it was very messy. It was while Brabus was having issues with the two aforementioned clients that QIC arrived from Canada and publicly announced on this forum that he's awarding the building of his house to Brabus irrespective of the fact that he was having a spat with his two previous clients. Why should I waste my sympathy for a guy who is not clever enough to learn from other people's misfortune but chose to add himself to the list of Brabus' victims? I knew there and then that it was all going to end in tears and the tears will be for the guy that parted with his money rather than the recipient.
Brabus was on my radar when I wanted to build my house in Mayfair Gardens Estate Awoyaya-Lekki but I was lucky to witness the spat between him and his clients and that made me to regard him as a pariah not to be touched with a barge pole. Brabus is very savvy and flawless with presentation but his nemesis is that he believes that he can take on his dissatisfied customers that ventures to complain about his shortcomings. This attitude of his is the reason why he's made enemies ten times more than the nearest dodgy builders on Nairaland. He lacks customer service doctrine and he doesn't believe in the mantra that 'the customer is always right'
One other problem with him is that he's too vocal and believes he has a sacred duty to participate in every discussion on the forum and that singular act depicts him as somebody who is not focused. I would have thought he would borrow a leaf from the other seasoned builders like Spyder, Segccymoor, Abdulwastec, Aventures, Segzy14 and others who spend most of their time doing their job rather than getting bogged down with getting involved and displaying arrogance of knowledge in every discussion taking place on the forum with unverifiable claims and images which is often disputed by the owners. I remember a guy on the auto forum by the name Inspired autos who happens to be on the autos section what Brabus is on the property forum but the difference is that Inspired has been banned on the auto forum due to endless complaints by his clients.
I don't know how long the moderators will allow Brabus to get away with his sharp practices on Nairaland.

You may be right. I blame myself for hiring Brabus too. However, I didn't see the altacations between brabus and his other clinet before I arrived in Nigeria. I saw it the next day I arrived. By this time, I've transfered a large sum of money from my account in Canada to Nigerian already. Moreover, I've been granted leave of absence at my job for 3 months. So I have no choice but to continue with the build. I don't have to hire brabus, I could have hire other able builders on this forum.

I gave brabrus a second chance and I will live to regret it for the rest of my life!

You don't have to feel sorry for me. I look to God of which is where my help is going to come from. I pray that I get a second chance when I mess up one day because I know I'm far from perfect although I remain humble.

I'm just surprised how the management of this forum let this continue to happen.
