Politics / Another Collapsed Building In Lagos by qkman: 2:10pm On Apr 06, 2009
Lagosians were still mourning those who died in a four-storey building that collapsed at Idi-Araba area of Lagos about 10 days ago when another building came down on Saturday.

The fresh incident however, involved a bungalow situated on Alhaji Kaka Ashipa Street, Ipaja, Lagos.

The sad incident, which immediately attracted the attention of neighbours and security officials, happened at about 3.10pm.

The building, which was under partial reconstruction at the time of the collapse, claimed the lives of two men.

Both victims whose names were given as Saidi Suleiman and Nasiru (surname unknown) were said to be workers at the site of the building.

Other persons were said to have sustained minor injuries and had been taken to a hospital for treatment.

Our correspondent learnt that the two victims died while sympathisers were taking them to the hospital.

The Idi-Araba incident officially recorded 11 deaths and tens of injured residents, some of whom are still receiving treatment at hospitals.

The state government had made known its intention to carry out a fitness audit of marked distressed buildings across the state.

This decision was necessitated by the incessant incidents of building collapse which the state had witnessed in the last few years.

Spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Frank Mba, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Sunday.

Mba said the police and all other appropriate government agencies were collaborating to investigate the cause of collapse and bring culprit(s) to book.

Politics / Breaking News:global Economic Meltdown Hits Lagos. by qkman: 3:37pm On Apr 03, 2009
The government our country has decided to cut even more jobs in lagos as they continue on their campaign to clear more trading areas in Lagos. The exercise started early this morning at Yaba, the affected trading areas happens to be on the railway line where used clothes and other wears fondly called 'okirika' is sold.
A lot of traders were caught at lose guard when they arrived this morning to make weekend trading as what they saw really distabilize them, all their stalls are been demolished by the government. Some of the traders there commented 'these stalls,we pay for them on regular basis and they were constructed by the local government and all they can do is to come here today and demolish everything without creating any optional space for them to trade,it is very devastating that after demolishing Tejuosho market and reconstructing it at a very slow pace, all they are concerned about is to distroy,if the rate at which they demolish, they rebuild,it would have been better and more over they said there is a new market at Oshodi, how many people can afford a stall at the new Oshodi market. They do not consider the masses'.

Really, this is Lagos' own way of cutting jobs like it is applicable in western world at the moment due to the Global Economic Meltdown.
NYSC / Nysc Exemption Certificate by qkman: 4:40pm On Apr 02, 2009
Those of us that have passed age 30 were exempted from the NYSC programme, and, ordinarily, we should obtain NYSC exemption certificates.

However, since 2002 when we should have undergone the programme, we are yet to receive this document, and it has become a problem when applying for job.

Worse hit are those of us who graduated from the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State.

The Governing Council of our alma mater has continued to promise to issue our exemption certificates, but, five years after, we are yet to receive them

Recently, there is a First Bank employment advert for Executive Trainees, but applicants were required to fill in their NYSC number.

This automatically disqualified people in my category. I appeal to the NYSC directorate and the authorities of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, to issue our exemption certificates without further delay.

Politics / The Lagos Brt Lane by qkman: 3:20pm On Mar 31, 2009
I'd like if the government of Fashola could put reflectors on the BRT lane on the lagos metropolis as it causes so much accidents at nights when commuters some times do not see the dualization and bump into it,this situation causes loss of life and properties and also cause excess trafic jam as motorist will have to move on a single lane including BRT buses.

The workers of LAMATA who work on the BRT require serious training as they do not understand what it takes to be a public worker, they do not have any formal training to the job they are doing and such misbehave and abuse passengers.

Politics / The Noise Of These ITT. by qkman: 2:25pm On Mar 31, 2009
The government of our country seem to always make noise when they construct a road they ought to have done many years ago or input a facility that is a necessity and all some cowards will do is praise them, sincerely, its not worth it,anambra state govenment took their time on NTA network yesterday pronouncing the roads they have constructed and the ones in-progress.

These roads are part of the basic necessities of Nigerians, they come on air to show off that they spent part of the money paid by tax payers and where does the money set aside for maintenance of those roads go to?Or is their no money set aside for that?

The big deal is let  them to stop making unnecessary noise of the token they spent from all the whole sum they will embezzle and Nigerians should stop praising them because very soon those roads will need maintenance work and they will be no where to be found, another government will then come and do same and all our people will do is chanting their praises.

LET them stop all these praise they give to these people as they dont deserve it.
Let them do what they swore the oath of office to do. ahhhh they actually swore to em,
