Well, I was right.

Come to think of it, I wonder why people were doubting it would happen.

But he doesnt play for top 5 leagues. plus his name is not Chukwueze or Moses Simon.....

You gerritttt?

On a very serious note, Sodiq is ,more or less a winger with end product. I said this many moons ago when he was being played as a right back. One thing I will always stand by is identity. Who are you and what are you good at? This make shift and so so copy copy of Europe is what is crippling us in Africa, Nigeria especially! Oyinbo people will act as though they are the only ones who can read soccer and modernize it and we are so gullible to swallow it hook line and sinker. They tell us the no 10 is a dying breed and we adjusted accordingly and started huffing balls in the air for a supposed pure no 9. No creativity in the middle. They tell us football is now science of time and space and tell us how to think and we bought it too. They infiltrated our thinking pattern so much that if it isn't from their mouths, it is automatically to be discarded.

Unfortunately also, the media that is supposed to be custodians of truth have also been compromised and now they also end up fanning the embers of western ideologies regarding who to play and how. Each journo also has his own special player in the national team. I know of one jounalist that no matter how bad Moses Simon plays in any match, he will perpetually defend his mediocrity in his tabloid. We are in the era of PR campaigns. The more you pay, the louder our journos make noise about you.

Coming back to the issue of identity, it is glaring to see that we have lost that identity in the national team. Every player is always gonna be either shifted to some uncomfortable position just to accomodate a liability. We sacrifice efficiency for "the good of the team". Now I hear Chukwueze should be drafted as a No 10. Question is this. Can he play that 10 for a sustained period of time? Does he have the intelligence of a 10? Does he even pass the ball? How accurate are his passes? In a nation of 200 million, there is no creative midfielder we can use? or we just don't have time to search for one. Oh I get it! he isn't popular yet and hence has no PR campaign. What we have as players in the current national team is all about a keran ma jele agenda. We dont have a team. All we have a super stars that have good complement of club players and coaching to go with it. No competition as status quo must always be maintained. We look at our players from the lens of what they do in their clubs. Do we play them accordingly? Iwobi plays from the left side of the field for so many years and has been found to be efficient there. But alas, he has to play from the deep where all his passes would have been neutered so they have no effectiveness. Lots to say but the more I type it, the more I get frustrated and angry at our team handlers. On a final thought, Nigeria needs to get back to its own brand of football where talent, discipline, grit and preparation meet to form a great synergy. There is a reason we always refer to the 94 team and its simply because of all the bolded attributes, they have it all. The current Super Eagles team only has talent and social media. O tan!
You see that part in yellow marker? That's the part I've not been able to solve in my head for the past couple years. Maybe I've missed something but I really want to know what goes on in the head of coaching staff during our international outings. I really want to know how difficult it is to play a player according to his strengths and proven track record in a particular position. It's hard sometimes to imagine that we hate ourselves this much to self-sabotage our own efforts with the most insane and ridiculous decisions.

Hope dey, hope dey, to qualify. That's the song on repeat. Hope dey yet we bottled our lead against Zimbabwe and drew SA with serious struggle.

Thing is that these players lack self belief and aggression.

The old eagles, always fought hard until the last blast of the whistle even in marches they lost.

We remember Taribo (it was said that he hated losing) playing with a blood soaked bandage on his head, bleeding his heart out in our match at the world cup 2002. We remember him weeping profusely when we eventually lost.

In those days, even if Nigeria is losing 4-0, we the fans will still be pumped up with hope and anticipation that we can turn the tide. In fact we were more dangerous after conceding.

Afcon 2000, we fought hard and came back from a 2 goal deficit. In 2004, we fought hard, came back from a goal deficit and broke the jinx of Cameroon.

Today it is only the Falcons who embody that unyielding warrior spirit. Super Eagles have lost it. If they are winning, we go dey fear. If they concede, we go just give up because we know they don't have it in them to fight.

Sometimes it's not tactics. It's mentality, a winning mentality. Sadly our team doesn't have it. That's why I am now indifferent regarding our world cup hopes. I still pray they qualify sha.
Perfectly said.

I said this here before the Match against SA.

Yet I see you all salivating about the potential 3 points deductions from SA. But you all have refused to see that our SE will still lose our of Qualification whether those 3 points are deducted or not.

1. Our players can't trap balls

2. They can't run

3. No creativity from the middle, no ball carriers in the team, no purposeful intent from the middle.

4. The players don't believe in themselves {except Osimehn and more recently Bassey} to be winners, warriors or Super Eagles of Old.

5. Moses will play rubbish 9 times out of 10

6. Iwobi will pass sideways all day

The way Bassey {a defender} charged at the ball from defense to Attack before scoring that Equalizer.

If 60% of our boys put the same energy, effort and passion like Osimehn do and as Bassey did against SA, we will currently be topping our group by a wide Margin.

We knew the situation we were in before the last two games yet we could only muster a measly 1-0 win at home to Rwanda and 1-1 draw with SA.

If we were a serious side, we should have beaten Rwanda 3-0 here and beat SA 0-2 with all their politics away to send a strong signal that we mean business now after our initial faulty start.

Aiyegbeni is right, so long as we lack creativity and ball carriers in the middle, we will suffer to score goals. The midfield is the engine room of a team, we can't over-emphasize this point.

The fulcrum of any team is your midfield, it links your defense to Attack.

Let's ask ourselves pertinent questions: How many chances has Ndidi, frank Onyenka, iwobi and all others that have played in that midfield for the last 5 years have created altogether?... Someone please tell me How many?

Heck, how many goals have our midfielders scored for us within the same number of years?

They can't score, yet they can't even create chances, and you said we as fans should be hopeful? ... Hopeful for what exactly?

How many of our midfielders can score the goal Cole Palmer scored yesterday against Bayern?.... The answer is NONE!!!!

The only person we can play in that midfield right now that will give us a little spark of creativity is Chukwueze. I say give Chukwueze the number 10 jersey now, and watch Magic. I say give it to him now,No delay

Throw in Uche besides him and see our midfield come alive. Uche can be subbed for Iwobi and vice versa.

Moses Simon should sit his ass out on the bench until we need a Winger cum defender to seal a lead.

We have no business playing a double 4 against African minnows, these are teams we should be using for stat padding.

Send a team Psychologist that knows his onions to the team to wake their mentality from slumber.

See how Senegal beat Congo DR, that's how you know a big boi when you see one. Let's tell ourselves the truth and shame the devil for once.

Enough of all this window dressing we are doing.
You see that Moses Simon ehn, that's the one that annoys me the most. The dude is so predictable whenever he runs down that left wing, he's always going to do a cheap leg over, cut, and make crossing attempts that are only successful about 30% of the time. If he doesn't do that, he'll just turn round and pass back to the defense. I can count the number of times I've seen him win a duel with an opposing defender in our games. There's one I remember he won in the last AFCON against Angola. But they're few and far between.

I think the reason he's considered useful is for his set pieces. Anything beyond that, I have ZERO confidence in him.

It's the confidence for me sha, lol. Like I understand that anything is possible in football. But omo I'm not holding my breath to expect Bafana to lose or even draw to this freaking Zimbabwe squad, even with the matter on ground. Rwanda is the only team I can rely on because they've done the job before and conquered Bafana. And even then, I don't really know.

Omo, I don too give myself hope for this WCQ. Month after month after month. We keep finding hope and losing it almost immediately.

Funny enough, all our national teams except the U23 will be engaged this ember season.

Super Eagles in October and December (WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS and AFCON)

Super Falcons in October (WAFCON qualification against Benin)

U20 Flying eagles in September and October play the U20 FIFA World cup in Chile

U17 Golden eaglets WAFU B Zonal qualifiers in September

U20 Falconets engage Rwanda this weekend and next week in U20 FIFA Women World cup qualifiers in Poland

U17 Flamingoes qualified for U17 FIFA Women world cup in Morocco

Its a loaded season of football incase the Super Eagles break our hearts.
I'll be following the bolded ones religiously, judiciously and expeditiously.

I won't be following the others in similar fashion, but I'll keep tabs on them for the results.

Even if those points are docked by FIFA, then what? At this stage, how does it benefit us? Are we seriously expecting South Africa to lose to either Rwanda or Zimbabwe?

This 3-point deduction stuff was more interesting when we hadn't played SA yet and there was a chance we would actually win all out remaining matches. Right now I find it hard to be excited about it. Should they deduct it? Obviously yes, if they don't want to appear shady and commit robbery in broad daylight. But how does it affect us at this point? How does it salvage our position?

On an unrelated note, please who the heck is Abdullahi Shitu that is supposedly from Man City playing for us in the upcoming U-20 world cup? Never heard of him. Plus, he's non-existent on Google apart from recent news reports of the Flying Eagles list. Which Man City is he playing for? Is it the one in England or somewhere else?

It's irrelevant atp. After the draw with SA, the playoffs became our most realistic option to qualify through.

That Eritrea stuff might also be helpful, but the problem I have is that the circumstances surrounding it are not well defined. For the life of me, I can't find any tournaments online where FIFA cancelled the results of last placed teams in group qualifiers and yet I'm seeing many people hold on to it for hope.

🚨 Nigeria legend Segun Odegbami wants the Super Eagles to be rebuilt around a new generation of players, beginning with Brighton defender Benjamin Frederick and AC Milan’s rising star David Odogu.

👤 Odegbami 🎤: "20-year old debutant, Benjamin Frederick, played brilliantly and safely in the match against Rwanda.

"There was no justification to have kept him on the bench in the next match for an aging William Troost-Ekong (editor's note: Fredrick started the game but Trooost-Ekong was replaced at halftime). Now we know better. Benjamin is the revelation of the year for me.

"There are a few others in the horizon, untainted by the ‘failure’ of the current generation, sprouting around the European football circuit.

"There is David Odogu. I wrote about him about a year ago. He was 18 years old at the time and was an integral part of the winning German team at the last Under-17 World Championship.

"Three weeks ago, he was signed by Italian giants, AC Milan. He is that good. Nigeria has the opportunity to lure him to play for the Super Eagles. His combination with Benjamin Frederick will be, in my estimation, the best pairing at the centre of any defense in Africa for the next decade."
He's spitting facts.
