You feel like this because all your life, you've been conditioned to believe that there is meaning to this universe. That you're special. That there's an imaginary being that cares about you. The special treatment you got as a kid may have reinforced all these sentiments in your head but adulthood has now shown you just how little you matter in the grand scheme of things. Your reaction is expected and totally justified.

That being said, as an experienced existentialist myself, I don't agree with your sweeping generalizations about love's non-existence. Obviously you've experienced personal disappointment, but logically it doesn't make any sense to project that disappointment on to the entirety of the human experience.

Life is needlessly difficult because humans make it out to be difficult. We're arrogant, narcissistic, selfish and myopic creatures. All of that is true. But as long as you have life in you, you simply can't declare to be indifferent to the affairs of the universe. Whether you like it or not, your actions affect the universe just as the universe affects you. The universe might have no objective meaning but that doesn't mean you can't create meaning for yourself.

What if this is the only time you're ever going to experience what living feels like? Nobody knows what will happen after death. Religious people like to pretend they do but they really don't.

So you have to appreciate the little things that give you joy, focus on them and maximize them to your benefit. You can't claim universal indifference and be craving human connection at the same time. Lol. Well, technically you can because it speaks to one of the countless paradoxes of human nature, but I just feel it would be better to accept reality as it is without being brooding or negative. The white people say if you life gives you lemons, make some lemonade. You can't give what you don't have.

Even though I hate it, this is why I sometimes enjoy reading comments from delusional, sentimental 9ja music fans, especially Davido stans who are already here crying all over the thread with ashes on their head. They just make you laugh with how absurdly twisted their logic is.

Just imagine the audacity of someone here, claiming that concert-goers aged 18-34 don't know 50 Cent. Like are you guys being serious right now? 50 Cent? One of the pioneers of hip hop in the 21st century? An international brand? The guy who sang "In Da Club" is unknown to millennials, according to you? Lol, and you wonder why actual music critics don't take people like you seriously? I understand cognitive dissonance can be terrible but come on now. 50 Cent's catalog and Davido's catalog aren't even in the same ballpark. It doesn't matter what stage they're on, Davido will always be second string to 50 Cent.

And what if 50 Cent's commercial peak occurred decades ago? Do you seriously think longevity in the entertainment industry is measured by recency, and not lasting influence? Imagine dismissing established legends as "hasbeens", but you're busy championing the flavor-of-the-month type of records that Davido and his other comrades in mediocrity churn out in the pretense it's art.

Someone even mentioned Bruce Springsteen and James Brown. Those men REVOLUTIONIZED popular music. What didn't they have? Everything about them was distinctive. Their voice - as croaky as it was - still had style, charisma, musical genius etc. I can't think of anything particularly unique about Davido. He sounds like your average Afrobeat singer. No lyrical depth, no significant artistry. Just a run of the mill. Afrobeats in general is just cultural gentrification in and of itself. These guys just take authentic African rhythms and sanitize them to become overly derivative, albeit consumable by the Western media. Sometimes they even market it "world music". That's why everybody sounds alike. Easily the most bland music genre I've ever come across.

I should sucker punch some of you for even having the temerity to mention Davido in the same sentence with James Brown. Davido that can't even sing without auto-tune, even if his own life was at stake.

When legends share a stage, the real pretenders will always reveal themselves inevitably via comparison. But for people like Davido and his naive, sentimental fans, it's way easier to craft the narrative of unfairness and martyrdom instead of enduring the humiliation of performing before an audience that is ten times more excited about the headliners. Make una no dey whine una selves abeg.

The best artists in the Nigerian music scene mostly reside in the alté genre. Lady Donli, Cavemen and even Tems. But na average Davido una wan craze on top.
