Sports / Europa League Wrap: Arsenal, Chelsea And Five Other Teams Qualify For Next Round by queenonyebiri1(f): 12:43am On Nov 09, 2018
Seven teams clinched spots in the knockout rounds as the fourth match day of the Europa League group stage played out around Europe.

English Premier League sides Arsenal and Chelsea are joined by Eintracht Frankfurt, Lazio, Dinamo Zagreb, Bayer Leverkusen, and FC Zurich as clubs to reach the next stage with two matches remaining in this one.

Arsenal 0-0 Sporting Lisbon

Arsenal clinched a place in the knockout stage of the UEFA Europa League with two group games to spare after a 0-0 home draw against Sporting that was marred by Danny Welbeck’s injury. The England striker was carried off on a stretcher after appearing to sustain a serious ankle problem. He needed to receive oxygen before he was taken to hospital.

BATE Borisov 0-1 Chelsea

Chelsea also made it through after Olivier Giroud ended his drought by scoring the only goal to lead give the Blues to a 1-0 win at BATE Borisov. Giroud had not scored for Chelsea for six months but he knows what it’s like to net against BATE. Last season, the France forward was on target in both games against the Belarusian champion when he played for London rival Arsenal in Europe’s second tier competition.

Zurich also reached the next stage, together with Bayer Leverkusen after the German side won their encounter 1-0.

Eintracht Frankfurt beat Apollon Limassol 3-2 to advance, while Lazio beat Marseille 2-1 to march into the next round and eliminate last year’s runner-up.

Dinamo Zagreb was another team to progress to the knockout phase after the fourth round of matches.

Ten-man Sevilla won 3-2 at Akhisar thanks to a late penalty, but Anderlecht’s hopes of going through are over.

Sports / Leicester City To Drop Goal Celebration Music As Mark Of Respect For Late Owner by queenonyebiri1(f): 2:16pm On Nov 07, 2018
Leicester City will not play any goal celebration music should they score against Burnley on Saturday in their first game at the King Power Stadium since the death of their chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.
The match against Burnley will be Leicester's first at the King Power Stadium since the helicopter crash which killed Srivaddhanaprabha and four others on October 27.

Since 2014, Leicester have played Kasabian's song "Fire" after every home goal.

The club are conscious to set the right tone in the stadium, with the lyrics to the song including the phrase "I'm on fire".

Leicester are yet to decide whether the track will be re-instated for future home matches.

A number of special tributes are planned ahead of the game with Burnley, including a solidarity walk being staged by supporters, where up to 20,0000 people will march from the city centre to the King Power Stadium.

The King Power Stadium usually celebrates while Kasabian's hit tune Fire rings around
The LCFC Foxes Foundation, which supports Leicestershire-based causes and builds relationships in the local community, has already been renamed The Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation in honour of the club's late owner.

The Leicester playing squad arrived back in England on Tuesday after attending the funeral of Srivaddhanaprabha in Bangkok.

Manager Claude Puel was also in attendance, along with director of football Jon Rudkin, chief executive Susan Whelan, and other Leicester directors.

Sports / Ronaldinho Has Passport Seized As Investigators Find Just $7 In Bank Account by queenonyebiri1(f): 7:35am On Nov 07, 2018
A Brazilian judge has ordered the seizure of Ronaldinho’s passport as part of a case involving a $2 million unpaid fine after investigators found just $7 in the star's bank account, according to reports.

The former Barcelona and AC Milan ace, 38, was handed an 8.5 million real (US$2.2 million) fine three years ago over claims he and his brother built an illegal construction in a preservation area in their homeland.

The pair have reportedly defaulted on the payment despite mortgaging the property, with the interest on the fine said to be too high.

Reports in Spain claim that an investigation found just 24.63 Brazilian real in the player’s bank account, leading a court in Rio Grande do Sul to order that he submit his passport the next time he enters the country.

"There is no other measure than the retention of the passports as a coercive measure in the face of repeated unfair, abusive and total disrespect, disobedience and non-compliance with the legal system," the prosecutor said, according to goal.com.

Sports / Tuesday's UCL Wrap: Barca Through To Knockout Stage; Crvenazvezda Stun Liverpool by queenonyebiri1(f): 12:16am On Nov 07, 2018
Here's the wrap of last night's UEFA Champions League action...

Atlético Madrid 2-0 Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund would have clinched qualification and first place with a win but instead Atlético avenged their 4-0 defeat in Germany to join their visitors on nine points.

Saúl Ñíguez opened the scoring on 33 minutes with a deflected effort and Antoine Griezmann sealed victory near the end after a lightning counter.

Monaco 0-4 Club Brugge

Club Brugge ended a 13-year wait for a group win in style to stay within five points of the joint leaders.

Hans Vanaken struck twice in the first 17 minutes, the second a penalty, before a superb Wesley goal soon made it three.

Ruud Vormer got a late fourth to inflict Monaco's record European home defeat, which also means Thierry Henry's side cannot finish in the top two.

Inter Milan 1-1 Barcelona

Barcelona are the first team through following this draw – but even with Lionel Messi ruled out before kick-off, they still pushed hard for the victory that would have sealed top spot in the group.

The visitors seemed to have done enough when substitute Malcom made their pressure tell in the 83rd minute, only for Mauro Icardi to swiftly equalise and keep Inter within three points of the leaders.

Crvena zvezda 2-0 Liverpool

Milan Pavkov was the home hero as his goals on 22 and 29 minutes, a spectacular strike and a bullet header, earned Crvena zvezda's first UEFA Champions League group win. Just two points separate the four teams in the section, with Liverpool and Napoli on six, Paris with five and Crvena zvezda four.

Sports / Manunited Have Not Scored 5+ Goals In An EPL Game Since Sir Ferguson's Last Game by queenonyebiri1(f): 2:19pm On Nov 06, 2018
Sir Alex Ferguson's last game in charge of Manchester United was a thrilling affair, ending in an unlikely 5-5 draw with West Bromwich Albion.
That game was on May 19, 2013, and marks the last time Manchester United scored five times in a single match.

Since then, 86 different teams have scored five times in an English league game. And United's closest rivals Manchester City have done it an incredible 21 times.

Football statistician and author Duncan Alexander posted the amazing statistic on Twitter, showing that the rest of United's main rivals have all done it a number of times in the past five years.

City have done it by far and away the most number of times with 21, their most recent effort coming just this weekend when they defeated Southampton 6-1.

Liverpool have done it 12 times, Tottenham nine times, Arsenal eight times, and Chelsea seven times.

Sports / Fans Ridicule 'Terrifying' Statue Of Liverpool's Mohamed Salah - Photos by queenonyebiri1(f): 1:59pm On Nov 05, 2018
A newly-unveiled statue of Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has left puzzled football fans scratching their heads while others ridiculed the artwork.

The sculpture of the Egyptian forward, which was shown at the World Youth Forum in his country Egypt, comes after a bust of fellow footballer Cristiano Ronaldo was widely mocked.

It depicts Salah with his arms spread out in celebration, smiling and looking up into the sky.

His arms, legs and torso appear disproportionately smaller when compared with the size of his head.

Some on social media have said the sculpture looks more like 1970s singer Leo Sayer, while others likened it to cartoon characters Beavis and Butt-Head and the character Marv Merchants from the Home Alone films.

Egyptian sculptor Mai Abdel Allah said she came up with the idea in 2016 and that the statue took a month to complete in the lead up to the youth forum.

She told Egyptian newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm that Salah was a symbol of excellence and an example to her country's youth.

The artist said the piece depicted the footballer "opening his arms to the fans" - a celebration the star is known for.

She said it was "distinguished and executable".

The statue follows Ronaldo's at Madeira Airport, which eventually had to be destroyed and replaced after it made headlines around the world.

Sports / Man United Review Security After Pitch Invader Smuggled Guns During Juve Game by queenonyebiri1(f): 11:18am On Nov 02, 2018
Manchester United have launched a review into their security protocols after it emerged a pitch invader got into Old Trafford with two toy guns during last month’s UEFA Champions League game against Juventus.

Shortly after play got under way during the hosts’ 1-0 defeat by the Italian champions, a fan ran across the pitch and was restrained by stewards close to the players.

Manchester United said the safety of fans was an “absolute priority” for the club.

“Carrying a children’s miniature plastic toy gun into a stadium is clearly an extremely irresponsible act,” said a spokesperson.

“Fortunately, the actions of the pitch intruder at the Juventus game did not harm anyone. However, as the security and safety of all fans and staff is the absolute priority at Manchester United, the club immediately launched an investigation into the circumstances around this issue.

"This includes a full review of our already rigorous security protocols, using our own security teams together with external expert consultants.”

At the time of the incident, Greater Manchester Police confirmed to Press Association Sport that one man in his forties was kept in custody overnight, having been arrested on suspicion of pitch invasion.

UEFA has charged Manchester United for the “field invasion”. The case will be dealt with by the UEFA control, ethics and disciplinary body on 22 November.

Sports / Liverpool Defender Lovren Says Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos Is Overrated by queenonyebiri1(f): 5:02pm On Nov 01, 2018
Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has claimed Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos is overrated.

Ramos is not a popular man on Merseyside after he injured Mohamed Salah in Real's 3-1 win over Liverpool in the Champions League final last season.

And Lovren believes the Spaniard is not as good as his centre-back partner Raphael Varane.

"Virgil (Van Dijk) I would say (is among the best)," he said.

"We had a great season last season, me and him, we reached the final of the Champions League.

"I would say (Raphael) Varane. I like Varane, he deserves a lot of credit, he doesn't get it as much as Ramos gets. I don't agree with that.

"Definitely Varane is better, this season and previous seasons. He won the Champions League and the World Cup. He should be the best defender in the world and they chose Ramos.

"I always consider Thiago Silva. He is really a good experience players, he isn't that tall but can jump quite high. He is strong."

But the Croatian wasn't finished with Ramos…

Sports / PSG's Neymar Faces Six Years In Prison Following Fraud And Corruption Charges by queenonyebiri1(f): 1:34pm On Nov 01, 2018
A Spanish judge says fraud and corruption charges brought against Neymar could merit a prison sentence of up to six years when the Brazil forward stands trial

Prosecutors were seeking a two-year sentence for the Paris Saint-Germain player for alleged irregularities related to his transfer to Barcelona five years ago, but the court said on Wednesday a sentence of four to six years could be handed down if Neymar is found guilty.

The decision is a setback for Neymar because in Spain sentences of two years or less for first offences are usually suspended, meaning he would avoid any jail time.

The charges were brought after a Brazilian investment group said it received a smaller compensation because part of Neymar's transfer fee was concealed by those involved.

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has been criticised by his Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos online.

Ramos has made it clear to the club's fans it is up to the players to turn around their shocking form which led to the sacking of Julen Lopetegui.

And before their Copa del Rey win over Melilla last night, the defender liked a post on Instagram written by a fan which criticised ex-Chelsea keeper Courtois along with Raphael Varane and Nacho

Part of the rant which Ramos appeared to agree with included:

"Why is Courtois our goalkeeper? I mean does he even know he is a goalkeeper or what? Useless.

"Awful defence, just horrible omg, Nacho's worst ever performance, Varane just didn't know what to do after becoming world champion."

Sports / Real Madrid President Florentino 'Will Choose Hazard Over Conte' by queenonyebiri1(f): 12:54pm On Oct 31, 2018
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez's determination to sign Chelsea ace Eden Hazard has seen his interest in hiring Antonio Conte go cold.

Knowing Hazard fell out with Conte last season at Chelsea, Florentino has pulled back from talks with the Italian about replacing sacked coach Julen Lopetegui.

OKDiario's chief pundit Eduardo Inda, speaking on El Chiringuito de Jugones, declared: "The idea of Real Madrid is to bring Hazard next January and they have been clear: let Conte go elsewhere."

Inda revealed Hazard told Florentino that if Conte was appointed "he would never sign for Madrid".

For the moment, Florentino is backing Santiago Solaro as caretaker coach - though a decision over a permanent appointment must be made in a fortnight's time due to local regulations.

Sports / Monday Night Game: Tottenham 0-1 Man City-mahrez Goal Takes Man City Back To Top by queenonyebiri1(f): 11:38pm On Oct 29, 2018
The field at Wembley Stadium, which featured a faded NFL logo and yard lines from a game on Sunday, saw Riyad Mahrez score the game’s lone goal which Tottenham could not overcome on Monday night in the English Premier League.

The visitors only needed the single strike just six minutes into the match to move back into first place in the Premier League table. Mahrez was the man charging into the area to finish off a cross by Raheem Sterling in the game’s first attack, as the latter beat Kieran Trippier one-on-one to run the end line before his cutback to the penalty spot.

The win moved Manchester City to first in the table on 26 points, level with Liverpool but ahead on a far superior goal differential. They have six consecutive clean sheets in English Premier League play and four straight in all competitions. Spurs, meanwhile, saw a four-game EPL winning streak snapped. They are in fifth place with 21 points, one behind rivals Arsenal in fourth.

Sports / Real Madrid Officially Fires Manager Julen Lopetegui After Barca Defeat by queenonyebiri1(f): 11:24pm On Oct 29, 2018
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is not known for his patience with those who struggle at the helm of his club.

He tried to hold out as long as he could as Julen Lopetegui looked for a way through the recent darkness, but a dismantling at the hands of a bitter rival forced his hand.

Following a 5-1 embarrassing defeat to Barcelona in El Clasico over the weekend, Real Madrid finally pulled the trigger and officially sacked manager Julen Lopetegui on Monday after weeks of speculation as the club has fallen further and further into La Liga obscurity.

On the heels of three consecutive Champions League titles, Madrid sits in ninth in the La Liga table, with just a single win over its last seven matches across all competitions – a 2-1 victory over Czech club Viktoria Plzen.

Madrid suffered through a near-club-record goal drought of over 450 minutes during that span.

A club statement read:

"The Board of Directors of Real Madrid CF, meeting today October 29, 2018, has agreed to terminate the contract of coach Julen Lopetegui.

"This decision, adopted from the highest level of responsibility, aims to change the dynamics of the first team, when all the objectives of this season are still achievable.

"The Board of Directors understands that there is a great disproportion between the quality of the staff of Real Madrid, which has 8 players nominated for the next Golden Ball, something unprecedented in the history of the club, and the results obtained to date.

"The club thanks Julen Lopetegui and all his technical team for their effort and work and wishes them the best in their professional career.

"He will be provisionally replaced by Santiago Solari, who will lead the first team starting on Tuesday."

Sports / Respect Is Earned! Real Madrid's Ramos Fires Warning At Conte by queenonyebiri1(f): 3:55pm On Oct 29, 2018
Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has fired a warning at prospective new coach Antonio Conte.

In the wake of their dismal Barcelona thrashing on Sunday, former Chelsea manager Conte is being linked with Julen Lopetegui's job.

But Ramos said in the aftermath:

"The arrival of Antonio Conte positive for the club? Everyone is free to say what he wants, it's respectable. We have to wait, I have not heard anything yet.

"This kind of decision is not in our hands and we have to keep a cool head and make our self-criticism. Respect is earned, it is not necessary.

"We have won trophies with several coaches you know and sometimes the management of the locker room is more important than technical knowledge."

Sports / Sunday's Laliga Roundup:suarez Scores Hat-trick As Barca Embarrassed Real Madrid by queenonyebiri1(f): 11:22pm On Oct 28, 2018
Philippe Coutinho grabbed the opener and Luis Suarez scored a hat trick to do the damage with Arturo Vidal adding a late goal, as the first El Clasico since 2007 without either Lionel Messi (injured) or Cristiano Ronaldo (sold in the summer to Juventus) turned out to be a routine win for
Barca and an embarrassment for Real Madrid.

Real fought back in the second half but Marcelo’s goal wasn’t enough to stop their rot, with Karim Benzema guilty of missing a gilt-edged chance to make it 2-2.

With the victory Barcelona have moved back to the top of La Liga, while Real Madrid’s woes continue as Julen Lopetegui has now lost five of his last seven games in all competitions with just one win in that sequence.

Real have now lost three-straight games in La Liga.

Barcelona led 2-0 at the break, as Coutinho opened the scoring. Jordi Alba’s fine run down the left caught out Real’s defense and his cross put the ball on a plate for Coutinho to slot home to make it 1-0.

Then came some El Clasico history on the half hour mark.

Suarez went down in the box after being clipped by Raphael Varane and after using VAR for the first time in El Clasico history, the officials awarded a penalty kick which Suarez dispatched just past Thibaut Courtois to make it 2-0.

After the break Real came flying out of the traps after a tactical switch saw them move into a 3-5-2 formation with Lucas Vazquez on and Varane removed. Soon, it was 2-1.

Marcelo controlled and finished with his right foot to give Real hope of mounting a comeback. And they came so close to making it 2-2 as Luka Modric sent an effort off the post which rolled across the line and out.

Barca almost went 3-1 up as Sergi Roberto found Suarez but his effort smacked the post.

Late on Benzema headed over a glorious chance from close range after a fine cross from Vazquez as Real continued to knock at the door.

But it was Suarez who delivered his second and Barcelona’s third, with the Uruguayan scoring a sublime header to make it 3-1 and end any hope of a Real comeback.

Suarez then secured his hat trick with a cheeky chip over Courtois to score his ninth goal in nine La Liga games against Real Madrid.

And Vidal made it 5-1 late on as Real totally fell apart and Lopetegui’s future will surely be in huge doubt just a few months after taking over.

Sports / Sunday's EPL Roundup: Crystal Palace End Arsenal's Winning Streak With A Draw by queenonyebiri1(f): 10:40pm On Oct 28, 2018
A roundup of all Sunday's English Premier League action.

Crystal Palace 2 - 2 Arsenal

Arsenal’s run of wins ended at 11 games in all competitions, as the Gunners drew 2-2 at Crystal Palace, on Sunday.

Unai Emery‘s men launched yet another second half comeback after Luka Milivojevic’s penalty kick gave Palace the lead right on half time.

Granit Xhaka‘s fine free kick and a controversial effort from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the space of five second half minutes looked to have given Arsenal yet another win.

But Xhaka’s foul on Wilfried Zaha late on gave Palace another spot kick and Milivojevic grabbed the Eagles a point.

With the draw the Gunners have 22 points for the season, while Roy Hodgson‘s Palace remain without a win at home (but at least scored their first home goals of the season) and have moved onto eight points.

Burnley 0 - 4 Chelsea

Chelsea eased to a 4-0 victory away at Burnley, with Maurizio Sarri yet to taste defeat as Chelsea’s manager.

Alvaro Morata gave Chelsea the lead after a fine pass from Ross Barkley, and Barkley made it 2-0 in the second half before Willian and Ruben Loftus-Cheek finished Burnley off.

With the win Chelsea move on to 24 points for the season, while Sean Dyche‘s Burnley stay on eight points.

Manchester United 2 - 1 Everton

Manchester United made hard work of it as they beat Everton 2-1 at Old Trafford.

Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial put United 2-0 up but Gylfi Sigurdsson‘s penalty kick turned it into a nervy finish for the Red Devils and Jose Mourinho.

With the win United move up to eighth place on 17 points and are just five points off the top four, while Marco Silva‘s Everton slip to ninth on 15 points.

Sports / Saturday's EPL: Liverpool Go Top, Wins For Brighton, Bournemouth And Watford by queenonyebiri1(f): 11:09pm On Oct 27, 2018
A roundup of all Saturday's English Premier League action.

Liverpool 4 - 1 Cardiff City

Liverpool sits atop the Premier League, at least for a few days, after an easy win over Cardiff City on Saturday at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah had a goal and 2 assists, Sadio Mane scored twice, and Xherdan Shaqiri also scored as the Reds ran out 4-1 winners to reach 26 points on the season.

Cardiff remains 17th with five points, and got its goal from Callum Paterson.

Brighton & Hove Albion 1 - 0 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Brighton & Hove Albion beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 at the Amex Stadium as Glenn Murray‘s second half goal was enough to secure all three points.

Wolves created plenty of chances throughout but found Brighton goalkeeper Mat Ryan in impressive form as Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side tasted defeat for the second-straight game after Murray, who suffered a nasty head injury at Newcastle last week, was the difference.

Sports / Wednesday's UCL Roundup: Dortmund, Barca, Liverpool Win As Di María Saves PSG by queenonyebiri1(f): 11:56pm On Oct 24, 2018
Borussia Dortmund 4-0 Atlético Madrid
Dortmund earned a third win, and third clean sheet, to open a three-point lead over Atlético. Alex Witsel's deflected drive late in the first half broke the deadlock, Raphaël Guerreiro added a 73rd-minute second after a fine move, then substitute Jadon Sancho got the third, all those goals made by Achraf Hakimi. Guerreiro also claimed the fourth, and victory in Madrid in a fortnight would take Dortmund through as group winners.

Club Brugge 1-1 Monaco
Both teams got off the mark in the group, though Monaco were dreaming of victory in Thierry Henry's first European game in charge when, having seen Stevan Jovetić forced off with an early injury, 18-year-old Moussa Sylla coolly finished off Aleksandr Golovin's pass just past the half-hour, beating his marker with pace evoking his coach. Sylla almost scored again, rolling a shot just wide, but on 39 minutes Wesley headed in Hans Vanaken's cross and the hosts came close to winning it in the second half.

Barcelona 2-0 Internazionale Milano
Lionel Messi watched on at Camp Nou, his broken arm in a sling, but Barcelona still made it three wins out of three thanks to Rafinha's 32nd-minute volley and Jordi Alba's late strike, ending a seven-game run of victories for Inter. Like Dortmund, an away win on 6 November for Barcelona would be enough for qualification in first place.

PSV Eindhoven 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs were 2-1 up and seemingly cruising until Hugo Lloris was sent off 11 minutes from time, after he brought down Hirving Lozano outside the box. PSV then levelled with three minutes left as Luuk de Jong prodded in Pablo Rosario's cross, to ensure both teams secured a first point. Lozano had opened the scoring on the half-hour only for Lucas to equalise with a deflected shot shortly afterwards and Kane to head Tottenham in front early in the second period. Both sides trail Inter by five points.

Paris Saint-Germain 2-2 Napoli
Ángel Di María's superb strike deep in added time rescued a point for Paris. A subtle Lorenzo Insigne chip had given Napoli a 29th-minute lead on a day when Marek Hamšík equalled Giuseppe Bruscolotti's record of 511 appearances for the club. Mário Rui turned a Thomas Meunier cross into his own net just past the hour to restore parity but Dries Mertens restored the Napoli advantage with 13 minutes left as he pounced on a loose ball from a blocked shot. However, Napoli were eventually pegged back and dropped to second, though still a point ahead of Paris.

Liverpool 4-0 Crvena zvezda
Liverpool are the new leaders after their front three all got in on the goals. Roberto Firmino's deflected effort on 20 minutes started them off, and Mohamed Salah powered in just before the break before converting a penalty early in the second half. With Salah, now up to 50 Liverpool goals, substituted, Sadio Mané stepped up for a 77th-minute spot kick only for Milan Borjan to save, but shortly afterwards the Senegalese did add a fourth.

Sports / Tuesday's UCL Roundup: Juve Beat Man United, City, Real And Bayern See Wins by queenonyebiri1(f): 11:59pm On Oct 23, 2018
Tonight's UEFA Champions League roundup...

Manchester United 0 - 1 Juventus

Manchester United were outclassed as Cristiano Ronaldo's Juventus overcame Jose Mourinho's men in a UEFA Champions League clash at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

Paulo Dybala’s 17th minute goal was enough to give Juventus a 1-0 win over Manchester United.

Mourinho's side did improve in the second half and former Bianconeri midfielder Paul Pogba hit a post, but the Italian giants held on to move five points clear of second-placed United in Group H as a night that started with frustration ended in disappointment.

Shakhtar Donetsk 0 - 3 Manchester City

David Silva shone once again as Manchester City dominated Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0 at Donbass Arena in UCL play.

David Silva twice hit the woodwork before rewarding the visitors for their early dominance with the opening goal after half-an-hour and Aymeric Laporte quickly added a second.

Bernardo Silva came off the bench to wrap up a victory that took City to the top of Group F 19 minutes from time.

City were beaten on their last visit to the Metalist Stadium but there never seemed any danger of a repeat and one statistic emphasised their dominance as they recorded 24 shots.

Real Madrid 2 - 1 Viktoria Plzen

Real Madrid remain top of Group G as goals in each half from Karim Benzema and Marcelo secured them a 2-1 win against Viktoria Plzen at the Bernabeu.

Patrik Hrosovsky pulled one back for the Czech side to ensure a nervous finish for the out-of-sorts champions.

AEK Athens 0 - 2 Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich scored twice in three minutes second-half minutes in Greece to beat Group E rivals AEK Athens 2-0.

The German champions, who went down to rare back-to-back Bundesliga defeats earlier this month, went ahead through Javi Martinez's scissor kick in the 61st minute.

Robert Lewandowski tapped home the second, but Bayern stay behind Ajax in the table on goal difference after the Dutch side snatched a 1-0 win against Benfica.

Hoffenheim’s late equaliser versus Lyon means Man City top Group F, and they have a point ahead of the Ligue 1 side and four clear of Hoffenheim and Shakhtar.

Sports / Ronaldo's Only Mistake Was Joining Juventus, Says Ancelotti by queenonyebiri1(f): 2:31pm On Oct 23, 2018
Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti believes Cristiano Ronaldo's presence in Serie A can restore the league to its former glory, but joked that the star's only mistake was joining Juventus.

The 33-year-old has already scored five goals and set up four in nine appearances in the Italian top flight despite a slow start following his summer switch from Real Madrid.

The Portuguese star, who became the first player to score 400 goals in Europe's top five leagues on Saturday, has been tipped to help Juve end their long search for a Champions League crown and enhance the Turin side's hold on the domestic title.

And, although Ancelotti is happy to see Serie A have another global icon, he wonders if his former player could have picked a better team.

"The arrival of Cristiano is an excellent sign for the image of Serie A," he told France Football.

""For a long time, it was the league of stars, Diego Maradona, Michel Platini, Zico, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo, Andriy Shevchenko, Kaka, Ibrahimovic... That was the case for at least 10 years. The arrival of Cristiano will restore its reputation.

"He is a huge professional. His only mistake is going to Juve!"

Napoli face Ancelotti's former side Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Sports / Barca's Lionel Messi Pictured Wearing Sling For First Time After Breaking Arm by queenonyebiri1(f): 12:19pm On Oct 23, 2018
Lionel Messi has been pictured for the first time since breaking his arm on Saturday while playing for Barcelona.

The Barca talisman fractured a bone in his right arm during the win over Sevilla and the club announced he would be sidelined for three weeks.

The first images, obtained by Spanish outlet Sport, have emerged of the crocked Argentine donning a sling to protect the problem area.

The injury comes amid a run of hugely important fixtures for Ernesto Valverde's men, starting with Inter Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday.

He is also set to miss Sunday's El Clasico and the return leg against Italian outfit in Milan.
