Sports / Ross Barkley Saves Chelsea As The Blues Play 2-2 Draw Against Man United by queenonyebiri1(f): 3:20pm On Oct 20, 2018
Chelsea scored in the sixth minute of stoppage time - sparking a touchline melee involving United boss Jose Mourinho in a 2-2 draw between the Blues and Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

Defender Rudiger had headed the opener for the hosts after losing his marker Paul Pogba at a corner during a low-key first half. But United came to life in the second period.

Anthony Martial controlled and volleyed in Ashley Young's cross-shot to equalise, before drilling a 15-yard effort past Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga to put United ahead.

However, Barkley grabbed a point for the hosts in dramatic fashion to maintain Chelsea's unbeaten start to the English Premier League season.

Chelsea assistant Marco Ianni charged in front of Jose Mourinho, pumping his fist inches from the Manchester United manager’s face before screaming at the boss on the way back as Chelsea’s bench emptied to celebrate Barkley's goal.

Mourinho and his staff had to be separated from getting to the Chelsea bench.

With the draw, United moved to 14 points. Chelsea could drop from its table lead to as low as fifth pending other results.

Sports / Nigerians Threatened To Kill My Kids And Whole Family After World Cup - Ighalo by queenonyebiri1(f): 10:47am On Oct 18, 2018
Nigeria's Super Eagles Forward Odion Ighalo said he considered international retirement after the world cup following attacks by fans on his “innocent kids” and death threats he received from Nigerian fans.

Ighalo fired blank at the World Cup in Russia in a crucial group match with Argentina, which made him a villain to many fans of the Super Eagles.

He was among a few players singled out and blamed for Nigeria’s ouster from the tournament, but the angst of the fans didn’t stop there.

Ighalo told KweseESPN journalist Colin Udoh:

“I know the fans want me to score goals. I understand them. But some of them took it to another level.

“They said a lot of things. To my innocent kids, to my wife, even to the extent they threatened my life and the life of my family.

“I felt very bad (when they threatened my family). I had to talk to my wife because she could not take it. ..."

Sports / PSG 'will Allow Neymar To Leave Club For N92.4billion' by queenonyebiri1(f): 10:22am On Oct 18, 2018
Paris Saint-Germain will allow star forward Neymar to depart for €220million CN92.4billion) next summer, according to a report in Cadena Ser.

The French radio station’s El Larguero show highlighted Barcelona’s belief that their former forward would be available for such a fee at the end of the campaign.

Should the Parisians decide not to sell the Brazilian next summer then his price would reportedly drop to below €200m (N85.9bn) thereafter.

The report follows on from a similar story in French paper El Mundo Deportivo which outlined how the former Santos star remains unhappy in the French capital.

The playmaker joined the Parisians in a world record €222m (N93bn) deal in 2017 after his release clause was triggered and he has subsequently heavily been linked to Real Madrid.

The club’s attitude towards the player – after being dissatisfied with how he engineered his exit from the Camp Nou – is said to have shifted, thus ‘opening the door’ for a return.

Sports / Saudi Prince Worth N405.6trillion Set To Take Over Manchester United by queenonyebiri1(f): 4:09pm On Oct 15, 2018
Saudia Arabia is allegedly lining up a takeover bid for Manchester United.
Well-placed sources believe Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman - whose family is worth around £850billion (N405.6trillion) - wants to take on Middle East rivals like the Abu Dhabi-based owners of Manchester City.

And they think he is ready to sanction a bid by an individual or a move backed by the money of the oil-rich state to take a stake in United or, ideally, to buy the club outright.

Even if United’s owners, the Glazer family, were willing to consider selling, it would cost the Saudis more than £3billion (N1trillion).

But they have the money and, it is said, the desire to make a big splash in football.

Saudi Arabia has already made investments in sport through deals with F1 and WWE.

But so far its biggest play in football has been banning Qatar's beIN SPORTS from broadcasting in the country.

BeoutQ, a firm allegedly based in Saudi Arabia, has been pirating the beIN SPORTS coverage of the Premier League.

Buying into United would be a massive statement in the wider financial and political battles being fought between the Gulf states.

The Glazers’ attitude to selling all or part of the club they have owned since 2005 is unclear.

But it has been noted that co-chairman Avram Glazer has been spending significant amounts of time in Saudi Arabia recently.

Avram is due to attend the Future Investment Initiative conference in Riyadh later this month, along with leading bankers and investors from around the world and key figures from the Saudi administration.

United already have a strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia’s General Sports Authority to help develop football there as part of the Crown Prince’s 2030 Vision project to change the country.

But independent sources believe the Saudis are ready and willing to make the relationship far more significant.

Any deal would be expensive and tough to negotiate.

Sports / AC Milan To Cut Short Chelsea Flop Bakayoko's Loan Deal by queenonyebiri1(f): 11:50am On Oct 15, 2018
Chelsea's £40million (N19billion) flop Tiemoue Bakayoko could face a humiliating return to England after AC Milan threatened to cut short his loan deal.
The 24-year-old midfielder moved to the San Siro on a season-long loan after a disappointing start to life at Stamford Bridge.

But his stay in Serie A could end as early as January, with Corriere dello Sport claiming he has six games to save his Milan career.

Bakayoko was signed by Chelsea in the summer of 2017 but was shipped out following a string of underwhelming displays.

In Serie A, he has made only four substitute appearances so far for Milan and manager Gennaro Gattuso has suggested he is still too raw to make an impact.

France defender Laurent Koscielny has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 33.
The Arsenal man agonisingly missed out on France's historic World Cup triumph in the summer after suffering a long-term ankle injury against Atletico Madrid in the Europa League back in May.

Koscielny watched on with a sense of what could have been as well as overjoyed happiness as his France team-mates lifted the World Cup in Russia.

And following France's summer of success, Koscielny has now called a day on his international career, citing his disappointment at head coach Didier Deschamps for not staying in regular touch during his injury hell.

When asked by Canal+ whether Deschamps kept an eye on his progress, Koscielny replied:

"He (Deschamps) called me once for my birthday in September. Otherwise, no.

"Lots of people disappointed me. Not only the coach. It feels like a hit on the back of the head."

Sports / France Federation President Plays Down Benzema Return To National Team by queenonyebiri1(f): 3:44pm On Oct 10, 2018
Karim Benzema's hopes of returning to France's national football team appear to be shrinking.

In an interview with local newspaper Ouest France published on Wednesday, French football federation president Noel Le Graet played down the Real Madrid striker's chances of a recall.

"I believe that it's over for him with Les Bleus, especially since he may have been less fit for some time," Le Graet said.

Benzema, whose last game with France was in October 2015, has been named in the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d'Or award for the best player of the year.

But his relationship with France coach Didier Deschamps remains frosty.

Deschamps has not called up Benzema since he claimed that the national team coach bowed to the pressure of a racist part of France when agreeing to leave him out of the group of players for the 2016 European Championship.

Benzema's suspected involvement in an extortion scam over a sex tape featuring France team-mate Mathieu Valbuena also did not help his case.

"It's been three or four years that (this case) has been dragging," Le Graet said.

"A ruling should have been issued much earlier. It made things hard for us."

Benzema scored 27 international goals in his 81 appearances with France.

Legendary footballer Diego Maradona was never one to mince words, be it about Lionel Messi's form with the Argentina football team, supposedly unfair refereeing or his personal life, which comes under the spotlight more often than not.

This time around, the 1986 FIFA World Cup-winning captain has opened up about the cocaine addiction phase that had once left his career in a lurch.

In an interview with Spanish news outlet Infobae (a translated version of which was later carried on English website The Sun), Maradona expressed his concern over drugs affecting all parts of the Argentinian society and drifted back into time with a tinge of regret.

Speaking about the bygone phase, and thinking what opinion people form about him, he said:

"They could say a lot things, but since I got over the illness (addiction) 15 years ago, they talk about doping. I want to explain that when I was taking drugs, it was a step backwards and what a footballer has to do is move forwards. Everything stopped because of my daughters, I came to Mexico to work."

Maradona, who is currently managing second-tier Mexican side Dorados, also opened up about how the malaise drug addiction still grips the Argentine society.

Starting from July 2019, Adidas will be in charge of the production of Arsenal's kits.

The news was confirmed by the London club on Monday.

The German company succeeds Puma who has been in charge of making Arsenal's kits since 2014.

The agreement between the Gunners and the latter ends in 2019. Arsenal, who currently earns less than the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea in sponsorship agreement, will be handed a massive boost in income next year.

The team's previous agreement with Puma saw them earn £30 million (N14.4 billion) per annum, with the five-year agreement signed amounting to £150 million (N71 billion).

With regards to the new deal with Adidas, the Emirates outfit, according to Mirror, is expected to pocket an amount not less than £60 million (N28.5 billion) every year, with the gross income from the sponsorship deal amounting to £300 million (N142.6 billion) over five years.

As a result, the Londoners will possess the third most lucrative kit deals in football, behind Barcelona's £140 million (N66.5 billion) -a-year contract with Nike and Manchester United's £75 million (N35.7 billion) -a-year agreement with Adidas respectively.

The partnership between Arsenal and Adidas is nothing contemporary as the pair combined to produce sports gears between 1986 and 1994.

Sports / Europa: Morata Finally Scores As Chelsea Beat Vidi, Arsenal & Milan See Wins by queenonyebiri1(f): 11:49pm On Oct 04, 2018
A roundup of Thursday's UEFA Europa League group stage matches, with Chelsea, Arsenal, Celtic and Rangers all in action.

Chelsea 1 - 0 Vidi FC

Alvaro Morata finally found the target in the Europa League as Chelsea beat Hungarian champions Vidi 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Morata missed a host of chances in the opening Group L win at PAOK in Greece two weeks ago and spurned a glorious opportunity in the first half on Thursday night.

The 25-year-old made amends with 20 minutes to go, but only after Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri had turned to Eden Hazard in a bid to break a deadlock which stood due to the Blues' wasteful finishing.

Ross Barkley, another substitute, headed Hazard's free-kick against the crossbar when Chelsea were 1-0 up, but there were anxious moments before the Blues secured a second win from two games.

Qarabag FK 0 - 3 Arsenal

Arsenal young goalscorers, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Emile Smith Rowe and Matteo Guendouzi helped the Gunners maintain their 100 per cent start in the UEFA Europa League with a 3-0 victory over Qarabag in Azerbaijan (Click here for more).

Salzburg 3 - 1 Celtic

James Forrest was sent off as Celtic let a first-half lead slip on the way to a bruising defeat in Salzburg.

It was a dream start for the Scottish Champions in Austria in this Europa League tie when Odsonne Edouard fired them ahead after two minutes.

But Munas Dabbur and Takumi Minamino scored after the break, before Forrest was red-carded after conceding a penalty, which Dabbur converted. Zlatko Junuzovic also hit a post as Celtic had no response.

After an assured defensive performance in their opening 45 minutes, the Austrians picked holes in Celtic with poor defending at all three goals.

Their opening win over Rosenborg leaves them level on points with Salzburg and Germans Leipzig, who beat the Norwegians 3-0 in the other group fixture.

AC Milan 3 - 1 Olympiacos

AC Milan hit back after trailing early to dispatch Olympiakos 3-1 at the San Siro.

Miguel Guerrero grabbed a shock lead for the visitors only for the Italian giants to run amok with a brace by Patrick Cutrone and one from Gonzalo Higuain.

Rangers 3 - 1 Rapid Wien

Rangers came from behind to claim a deserved win over Rapid Vienna.

Veton Berisha broke the deadlock to give the Austrians the lead at Ibrox, but it was short-lived with Alfredo Morelos replying instantly.

Rangers' second came with just six minutes to play as Morelos was brought down in the box, James Tavernier scoring from the spot.

And Morelos finished the game off with a smart counter attack at the death.

With Villarreal drawing 3-3 away to Spartak Moscow, Rangers have the advantage ahead of their double-header with the Russians.

Sports / Europa League: Sokratis, Smith Rowe&guendouzi Score As Arsenal Beat Qarabag 3-0 by queenonyebiri1(f): 9:22pm On Oct 04, 2018
Arsenal young goalscorers helped the Gunners maintain their 100 per cent start in the UEFA Europa League with a 3-0 victory over Qarabag in Azerbaijan on Thursday night.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos' got the Gunners off and running inside four minutes when he deflected a Nacho Monreal header beyond the wrong-footed Vagner in the Qarabag goal.

18-year-old Emile Smith Rowe marked his second Arsenal start with his first senior goal on 52 minutes, before Matteo Guendouzi wrapped up the victory with his first goal for the club 11 minutes from time.

Arsenal did not have everything their own way in Baku, though, with goalkeeper Bernd Leno called into three decent saves throughout the game.

But an eighth straight win in all competitions sees the Gunners cement top spot in Group E.

Arsenal will return to the English Premier League action on Sunday when they face newly-promoted Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Here's the roundup of Wednesday's UEFA Champions League..

Atletico Madrid 3 - 1 Club Brugge

Antoine Griezmann, with the 8,000th UEFA Champions League goal, ensured Atletico moved on to six points in group A.

The Frenchman gave the hosts a 28th-minute lead and although a thunderbolt by Arnaut Groeneveld made it 1-1 at half-time, Griezmann scored again midway through the second half with the competition landmark goal.

Koke added a last-gasp third.

Borussia Dortmund 3 - 0 Monaco

Like Atleico, Dortmund now have maximum points while Monaco will take on Club Brugge next time with both teams having lost twice.

Half-time substitute Jacob Bruun Larsen took six minutes to break the deadlock and not long after hitting the bar with a penalty, Paco Alcácer made it 2-0 to Dortmund.

Marco Reus capped the win in stoppage time.

Tottenham Hotspur 2 - 4 Barcelona

Barcelona turned on the style at Wembley to accelerate to six points in Group B and inflict Spurs' second group defeat. Philippe Coutinho drove in an early opener and Ivan Rakitić's brilliant finish made it 2-0 at the break.

Harry Kane pulled one back but Lionel Messi, who had rattled the post, scored either side of Erik Lamela's deflected effort.

Sports / Tuesday's UCL Roundup: Juve, Man City Win, Madrid Lose, While Man United Draw by queenonyebiri1(f): 12:20am On Oct 03, 2018
The round-up of Tuesday's UEFA Champions League...

Juventus 3 - 0 Young Boys

Paulo Dybala ensured Juve did not miss the suspended Cristiano Ronaldo as the Argentinian's hat-trick led the Bianconeri to their second win in the section.

YB's Mohamed Ali Camara was sent off and they remain point-less on their group-stage debut.

CSKA Moscow 1 - 0 Real Madrid

Nikola Vlasic's second-minute strike proved enough to secure CSKA an impressive win despite both Casemiro and Karim Benzema hitting the post for the holders and Igor Akinfeev receiving an added-time red card.

CSKA now lead the group G, a point ahead of Roma and Madrid.

Manchester United 0 - 0 Valencia

Both teams had chances, with Marcus Rashford hitting the bar late on, yet there were no goals.

Valencia therefore opened their account following their opening loss to Juventus, who now lead United by two points.

Hoffenheim 1 - 2 Manchester City

David Silva scored with three minutes left to get City off the mark, at the end of a game where Hoffenheim had been celebrating just 44 seconds into their first-ever UEFA Champions League home match thanks to Ishak Belfodil's goal.

Sergio Aguero equalised seven minutes later before Silva gave Man City the win.

Bayern Munich 1 - 1 Ajax

Mats Hummels gave Bayern a fourth-minute lead, heading in Arjen Robben's cross, before Noussair Mazraoui levelled midway through the first half after a one-two with Dusan Tadic.

Ajax threatened a second goal but ultimately both teams moved on to four points.

Sports / Saturday's EPL Roundup: Chelsea-liverpool Draw, Man City & Arsenal See Wins by queenonyebiri1(f): 7:54pm On Sep 29, 2018
Manchester City 2 - 0 Brighton & Hove Albion

Manchester City began an important week with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Brighton at the Etihad Stadium.

Goals in the 29th and 65th minutes from Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero earned City the three points in a game where they had 80 per cent possession and 28 shots to Brighton's four.

City head to Hoffenheim on Tuesday needing a victory to ignite their UEFA Champions League challenge following the shock loss to Lyon before next Sunday's much-anticipated clash with Liverpool at Anfield.

The three points at the Etihad push Manchester City up to the top of the English Premier League table.

Brighton sits in 14th, stuck in the crowded bottom half of the table with five points.

Chelsea 1 - 1 Liverpool

Daniel Sturridge‘s amazing 89th minute goal helped Liverpool rescue a point against Chelsea in a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Eden Hazard scored for Chelsea in the first half, and Liverpool had chances cleared off the line by both Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz, once in each half.

But, as the clock ticked down, Sturridge had the final say - bending a beautiful strike into the top corner from 30 yards.

The draw ended Liverpool's 100% start to the English Premier League season - and they finished the day behind defending champions Manchester City on goal difference. Chelsea are two points back in third.

Arsenal 2 - 0 Watford

Arsenal broke through late to beat Watford 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Craig Cathcart‘s 81st minute own goal was joined by Mesut Ozil’s 83rd minute strike to provide three points to the Gunners.

Arsenal sits fifth, level on points with fourth place Spurs. Watford drops into sixth, two points back of the Gunners.

Huddersfield Town 0 - 2 Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane scored a pair of goals to lead Tottenham Hotspur past Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Spurs were without Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen in the win.

Spurs climb fourth, ahead of rivals Arsenal on goal differential, while Huddersfield sits dead last with two points.

West Ham United 3 - 1 Manchester United

Manchester United recorded their worst league start in 29 years as Jose Mourinho's side were beaten by West Ham at London Stadium.

They have 10 points from seven games - the same as in 2013-14 under David Moyes - but inferior goal difference means this is their worst top-flight start since they picked up seven points in 1989-90.

Felipe Anderson and Marko Arnautovic scored as West Ham United piled misery on Manchester United with a 3-1 win.

Andriy Yarmolenko authored a Victor Lindelof own goal before halftime, and both Mark Noble and Lukasz Fabianski were very good for the victors.

Marcus Rashford scored for Manchester United, who is off to its joint-worst start to an EPL.

West Ham is now 13th with seven points. Man United slips tenth with 10.
