Joshmodest: Did buhari not raise ganduje's hand in the presidential campaign, in Kano...what else do we call that if not endorsement , abi u no see the picshure.. His deputy governor's arrest , has nothing to do with buhari , it's the effort of the CP, who is interested in the goodwill of the people...if buhari had his way he would rig it like he did with the presidential election.. You have to detach emotions from facts to understand the Presidents position on the issue which he expressly stated. In the circumstances, the matter was in court and the President had no power to dictate to the court or the Kano State House of Assembly, which was already investigating the matter, about what to do with the allegations against Ganduje. In addition he was protected by immunity which thankfully Kannawa have used their voting powers to strip him of. Your allegations will only hold water if the EFCC/Presidency doesn't make any efforts to properly investigate and prosecute Gandollar in the coming months once he is stripped of his constitutional immunity. What PMB did at the rally is what was expected of any party leader given the circumstances. All of a sudden "Buhari has nothing to do with the CP", the same Buhari the opposition has been crying about using security agents to manipulate the elections? Lol like I said one needs to detach emotion from facts to stand a chance of sounding rational on this issue. This is a victory for democracy. A victory for Arewa. A victory for Nigeria. |

Esseite: If only Nigeria progressed on GEJ's antecedents, by now we may have been looking at a reasonable GDP figure and not 0.5% from a whole construction industry [s]which majorly accounts for our growth on infrastructure.[/s]
- [s]Just maybe we would have been getting ready to initiate online voting for 2023.. now it seems like we have retrogressed to 2007.[/s] Your enthusiasm to deceive the gullible is demonic. GEJ led us into NEGATIVE GDP GROWTH for consecutive quarters which was what led us into a recession in 2015. Fact. The manufacturing sector of the economy was one out of four major sectors in the non-oil sector that helped Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grow by 2.38 percent in real terms (year-on-year) in the fourth quarter of 2018, according to figures from the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS). He, Dasuki, Diezani and co looted our commonwealth instead of diversifying the economy from the surplus oil money we were receiving before the price crashed and destroyed our economy like Venezuela (which Venezuela have still not recovered from due to lack of a leader like Buhari). Now the beauty of Buhari's diversification of the economy is starting to show with NON OIL sector again showing an increased contribution to our GDP boosting economic growth by 2.38%, and your brain is suddenly doing backflips talking about online voting. Well Done PMB. I know you know these things but deliberately choose to deceive the uninformed but your conscience will surely judge you and my joy is that you will continue to live to wail as you experience the torture of President Buhari's good governance . |

Emeifiele, the unpraised hero of the Nigerian economy. He took some of the boldest and sometimes craziest monetary policy moves with the backing of FG, led by tough guy buhari. Since 1999 no cbn governor/FG were able to succesfully diversify our economy by delibrately withholding forex from politicians , smuggglers and importers of rubbish I think you meant fiscal/monetary policy, because PMBs diversification efforts are focused towards generating revenue/forex from non oil sources like agriculture and solid minerals. However what I wonder is why most Nigerians seem to know that Osibanjo and Emeifiele are the actual ones in charge of the economy, and praise them whenever there is any favorable economic development, but never fail to vilify and condemn President Buhari once the opposite occurs . He was indeed vindicated by his landslide victory. |

No hate... just being logical[/s] Where did you see CBN inject millions into the forex market in this article that emphasized NON CBN inflow to the I&E forex window? Further analysis showed that in 2018, the I&E forex window attracted $33.34 billion inflows with, foreign investors, exporters and other non CBN players injecting $23.89 billion. We are talking about transactions in the I&E Forex window so quit trying to conflate issues to deceive and misinform the gullible. ******************************************************** Foreign exchange inflows through the Investors and Exporters (I&E) foreign exchange window hit the $50 billion at the end of February. This huge inflow was instrumental to the stability of the naira against the dollar since 2017. Brilliant. TonyeBarcanista the export focus policy we discussed is already yielding fruits . The Investors and Exporters (I&E) forex window allows investors and exporters to purchase and sell foreign exchange at the prevailing market rate. Prior to the introduction of the I&E window on April 2017, the nation’s foreign exchange market was bedevilled with acute shortage of supply of foreign exchange due to apathy of foreign investors who exited the nation’s financial markets in droves in the wake of the sharp decline in the nation’s external reserve caused by sharp decline in crude oil prices between starting from July 2014. The scarcity triggered sharp depreciation of the naira with the exchange rate rising to N520 per dollar in February 2017, while the gap between the official exchange rate and the parallel market rate rose to 70 percent. Becoming an export based economy (non oil) is the surest and quickest way to Nigeria's economic prosperity as it will not only improve our balance of trade which will pump up the value of the Naira and reduce the cost of essential imports leading to a fall in inflation rates, but will also lead to multiplier effects including job creation and making our local firms players in the global marketplace. Reducing our exchange rate volatility and maintaining stability is good news for foreign investors as it means less forex risk and more investor confidence and more $$$ pumped into the economy. You do not understand the principle of checks and balances.
They already have the judiciary in their pocket.
Is it democracy we are practicing or something else? I do actually, it is you that seems to think checks and balances equals hunting down the executive. What we need is a smooth running of government devoid of opposition-driven legislative sabotage or judicial corruption like we saw in the last senate (Sarakid/Onnoghen). Yes this is democracy indeed. On the Next Level . P.S Last time I checked the acting CJN is the next in command and natural successor to the embattled suspended ex-CJN so I don't know who's pocketing what. |

We don't want a rubber stamped Senate.
I will forever respect saraki,he might have failed in this last fight, but there are still many fight in the future. It is time for him to re strategize. Nobody said there wouldn't be separation of powers or that the Executive will meddle in legislative affairs; this is a Senator party member saying they will co-operate with the Executive instead of the cat and mouse game that characterized the last senate, and in doing so has OFFERED that they will ALLOW the President choose who he'd be most comfortable with to allow smooth & effective governance. If however you just don't like Buhari and are vexed at the easy ride he is getting then that is a different problem. |

Why would Pompeo's statement be conveyed by Adesina, which but raises a lot of questions.
Mike Pompeo has a twitter handle, and so does the White House. Why hasn't any official statement come from these avenues?
How does congratulating Nigerians for a successful election translate to congratulating Buhari for victory? What does "SUCCESSFUL ELECTION" mean to you? Can a rigged, inconclusive or failed election be termed as "SUCCESSFUL" by the USA? Help your dear chest and accept the reality. |

In power play, you don't allow those who do not share your ideals and their cohorts in the opposition to hijack important organ of government as the legislature, and expect smooth sail of your policies - anti corruption, austerity measures and sociopolitical reforms.
PMB must act fast..the forces against the power blocks that gave him the APC ticket are getting stronger. They may decide to slow his progress in the face of high expectations from Nigerians, and before you know it, 2019 is around the corner. festacman: What is the basis of the so-called success other than fighting for political offices and taking undue advantage of one's authority and influence to steal public money. For example, what productive activities made Saraki, Ekweremadu, Akpabio, Modu Sheriff, and such other 'public fund thieves' wealthy? We must villify ill-gotten wealth to encourage productive activities.
Bouyed by bountiful earnings Venezuela was import-dependent and has corrupt visionless leaders like Nigeria. The fact is that if Buhari did not take over in 2015, Nigeria would have been like Venezuela today. But his conservatory tough decisions stemmed the slide moving Nigeria in and out of inevitable recession. He insisted on taking advantage of our other areas of comparative advantage through diversification and local production.
So I believe Buhari's 2nd term can only lift Nigeria forward to significant real economic growth. The worst is over. Thank you. Venezuela and Nigeria suffered from the curse of the black gold and became mono economies dependent on oil as a main/sole source of revenue, that shattered once oil prices fell sharply. However this is where the parallels between Nigeria and Venezuela ends. While Venezuela had Maduro who struggled to keep their economy afloat but failed woefully since they had no other major resource, President Buhari through his diversification policy (Agric contribution to GDP has already doubled) , import substitution (which Nigerians cried against) and TSA to curb waste, was able to shepherd the Nigerian economy out of a recession in less than 3 years and went on to secure a landslide reelection while Maduro got rejected by his hungry citizens and got kicked out. |

The analysis though was that we all expected Atiku to score higher in the north than GEJ did in 2015. My expectation was that he would score at worst twice Jonathan's score in each of the northern states and win all the PDP states in the north like sokoto, Gombe, taraba and Benue with wide margin. Such performance in the north added to southeast and south south would have ensured victory for Atiku. The original result arising from PDP's PVT showed my predictions to be almost correct, but the powers that be conspired to rig the election.

9jaRealist: Dude, do not know you from a can of beans so will not presume to speak for your personal standards or expectations, but I would like to think that most Nigerians do not consider themselves children of a lesser God and thus are in pursuit of the ideal in all spheres of their lives. The notion of settling for less should be anathema for anyone/everyone with high expectations for themselves and their country. Even if the ideal ultimately proves unattainable, it’s pursuit should ALWAYS be our collective aspiration for as the saying goes (and I paraphrase), “when you aim for the sky, you would tend to excel even if you fall short”.
Here, you just sound confused because the ability to sell one’s program is not synonymous with UNANIMTY of opinions.
This may be even further confusing for you, but a DIVERSITY of opinions and viewpoints is actually a GOOD thing - not least because no one person has a monopoly of wisdom (not even the President, as you appear to think). In fact, the ideal process is to subject ideas and opinions to competition in a free marketplace of ideas until the ‘best’ ones win or otherwise emerge therefrom. Accordingly, quite often, the ‘best’ and most effective laws and policies are a result of compromise, resulting from the meshing of a variety of different interests.
Meanwhile, you keep harping on and idealizing about a president’s “excellent” agenda, but what if the president’s agenda is horrible (or as previously proffered, parochial, primordial, partisan or pecuniary-driven)? Should the parliament simply be compliant and roll over? The Nigerian President is NOT a Sultan, Emir, Oba, Igwe, Obong, Tor, or any other such feudal monarch. Rather, he is constitutionally RESTRAINED by a system of INDEPENDENT check and balances, which if/when eroded inflicts incalculable damage to our constitutional democracy. The point is PMB will NOT allow himself to be restrained by any idealistic independent checks and balances exploited by the opposition for their selfish agenda. Everything will be done to ensure we don't suffer the kind of delays and deliberate sabotage that the 8th assembly caused to PMB, and all that is needed to be done to achieve that will be done including choosing senate leaders as far as possible. Sagay is merely stating the Presidency's already decided position on this issue. Rubber stamp is bae. Once bitten twice shy. |
