It’s about time.

Those sanctions are crippling and the Military Junta are already softening up, especially after the meeting with Emir Sanusi on the way forward.

A transition process should be mutually agreed upon with a firm timeline. Even the fiercest of wars are resolved on the round table, so it’s wiser to avoid the avoidable.

Despite being an ECOWAS member, the present military Junta does not identify with ECOWAS and its resolutions, hence their rejection of the earlier ECOWAS delegation amidst crippling sanctions.

The presence of the “mere flag” at this meeting is symbolic and except you’re new on this platform, you’d know I’m very far from being Yoruba or even a southerner to start with.

Honestly, the President displayed inexperience in his initial handling of the crisis in Niger Republic (threats/ultimatum), which is understandable, but I’m sure he has received better guidance on the matter.

The ECOWAS flag behind Tchiani during the meeting with Emir Sanusi is highly symbolic and significant.

The illegitimate military junta must handover power back to the legitimate and democratic government of President Bazoum.

Negotiations would likely be centered around handing over back to a democratic government, but it’s unlikely to be a Bazoum government due to public dissatisfaction with his governance (the main reason the putschists received public support in the first place).

The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) met the military leaders after the junta aborted a meeting with representatives of African Union (AU), Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) and a top US diplomat.
